::::Since it's unlikely that TBC were unable to change The Paper to New Paper due to tedious legal reasons (they had full control of the project), I can only offer the suggestion that due to popular demand by fans, or TBC just missed Ol' Papes, they decided to bring it back. {{User:The Chort/sig}} 21:32, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

:::::Is there anything in Homestar Ruiner that happened specifically AFTER the paper? if not, the episode may be set in a time a few months ago. [[User:Joanassie|Joanassie]] <!-- just signed -->

::::::Two things come to mind here - the first appearance of [[sloshy]] during the [[concert]] sbemail (though given that they formed 7 years prior in the timeline, whether Strong Bad had heard of them or not at this point is debatable), and the use of JELA-Ton™ at the track's pool, as seen in [[winter pool]].  That would be a little more obvious - Strong Bad claimed that he "loves" JELA-Ton upon picking it up, so that implied that he had indeed used it before. [[User:Rexy|Rexy]] 20:17, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

:::::::And there's Gel-Arshie to back that point up. {{User:Superfield Credit Union/sig}}

::::::::There's an idea going around in my head that says that Strong Sad may have been a fan of sloshy for a while, and another idea (or fact) that says Jela-Ton isn't Red Flavour Translucent Dessert Related Substance. By name, anyways. [[User:Joanassie]] 22:43, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

::::I would think that WINE wouldn't work. You'd HAVE to use Windows (since it uses DirectDraw and D3D as rendering which are tools of DirectX which WINE doesn't use because of legal reasons) or play it on a Wii. Linux would seem to be incompatible. {{User:NFITC1/sig}} 13:52, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

:::::This comment is a little outdated. <s>While I don't know if the game runs in Wine</s>, I do know that Wine supports both its own version of DirectX (which uses OpenGL), or you can install the Microsoft dlls. I know, because I play Psychonauts on my Ubuntu box all the time. {{User:Trlkly/sig}} 08:09, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

::::::It does run in wine, but it needs a [http://www.telltalegames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6051 special configuration]. A simpler option may be to use an open-source program called [http://www.playonlinux.com PlayOnLinux], which will completely automate the process. However, it doesn't work for the demo. {{User:Trlkly/sig}} 08:33, 31 October 2008 (UTC); modified 09:52, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

:There is also the issue of dividing responses into game phases, in some cases the responses change after certain milestones are reached, but in many cases they do not.  It will probably work to note these cases in as sub-sub-section's.  {{User:GreenHelmet/sig}} 14:13, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

::There are way more responses in this game than, say, Thy Dungeonman or Peasant's Quest. Those Responses pages are already extremely long pages. There are some generic responses (generally, using items on Strong Bad, or Strong Bad refusing to use items on certain objects) but most of them are NOT generic. I think the split will be necessary to keep things tidy. --{{User:Jay/sig}} 16:07, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

-
:::That's true, and as an added bonus, seperation will ease multiple editors working on the project.  I think that ''The Field'' should be a single page, because as stated above so many of the areas only contain a single object to interact with.

-
:::I haven't seen anyone raise any objection to this project (barring of course a request from either TBC or Telltale) &mdash; would it be too soon to move forward?  I propose as an initial step, (if it's not jumping the gun to do so today), article stubs with the appropriate headings be created and editors can use <nowiki>{{inprogress}}</nowiki> to "sign-up" for a specifc area to avoid duplicated effort.  I'd be interested in digging into a section starting a few hours from now &mdash; but if we should wait another day or so for comments that's fine too. {{User:GreenHelmet/sig}}

-
::::Actually, I'll start a stub for the generic responses page now. I won't add any responses just yet (nowhere near my Wii right now). Then everyone else can have at it. --{{User:Jay/sig}} 18:52, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

:::Moving the preview transcripts seems like a good first step to bring this article into alignment with ''Peasant's Quest'' game/trailer.  My feeling that ''At the track'' is "the" trailer, and ''Around the field'' was made to, um, stall for more time.  I guess we'll know if there're two trailers for SBTF.  If that's the case, I think they'll need to be treated differently; essentially ''Around the field'' would be non-episode-specific, like the three-second "Actual Gameplay Footage" bit. I mentioned this up on the page in a vaguely related thread, but thought I should make a separate topic for it:  The transcripts for the gameplay videos seem out of place on this page to me now that the game has been released and the article is filling up with info about the actual game. Is there a more appropriate place for them that already exists? If not, should we create a new article for them? Try and follow this, if possible (I don't think I'm going to do very well at explaining it) ... First off, we know that part of getting the Nuisance Trophy is: "Talk to Homestar in the locker room 3 times about the race."  But(!), if you first use the onion on Homestar and THEN talk to him about the race three times and THEN (without exiting the conversation) talk to him about showering, you won't get that 20%.  Another way to put it: If you use the onion on Homestar and THEN talk to him three times about the race, you MUST exit and restart the conversation BEFORE talking to him about showering, or you will not get the 20%.  Is that making any sense?  And if so, would anyone care to try and document this somehow?  And if so, what kind of powers do you have?  =]  {{User:OptimisticFool/sig}} 10:08, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

*The player is not given [[Homestar_Ruiner_Walkthrough#Coach_Z_Trophies|trophy credit]] for annoying Homestar in the locker room if he enters the shower immediately after discussing the race.
+
-
::<s>Without having seen it in context, I'm not entirely sure this is a glitch. He annoys Homestar by getting up in Homestar's face. Would YOU want to do that to someone who smelled like onions? Mind, if he has the exact same dialogue, then yes, it's a glitch. --{{User:Jay/sig}} 16:19, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
+
-
::Okay, so I went and tested it. The dialogue was the same... and so was the 20% toward the nuisance trophy. No glitch happenin'. --{{User:Jay/sig}} 16:26, 18 August 2008 (UTC)</s> Oh, wait, I missed the part where you have to talk about showering before you cancel the dialogue. Never mind. Still, you can also disregard the previous because the dialogue was the same. --{{User:Jay/sig}} 16:27, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
+
-
:::I am guessing that it is more of a Goof than a Glitch (although I honestly don't fully understand the distinction) &mdash; I'm sure there is an underlying technical reason it happens (e.g. the Homestar you interacted with is no longer there at the time the credit should be awarded), but it's a mistake that they didn't handle that situation, unlike something that I would think of as a "glitch". {{User:GreenHelmet/sig}} 16:40, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
+
-
::::A Goof is a plot error or inconsistency. A Glitch is a programming error. This is closer to Glitch territory if you ask me. For Goof examples, check the current ones on this page: Spelling errors have nothing to do with programming, and the changing graphics for the shirt is the fault of whoever made the graphics (UNLESS there are actually supposed to be TWO hidden shirts, but we don't and can't know that right now.) --{{User:Jay/sig}} 16:48, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

I would ask to revisit this point, as the Dial [X] for [Word that stars with X] construction definitively comes from the Hitchcock flick.  Parallel references to it are rather commonly made, yes, but I think we should note the original, which is Dial M for Murder. -[[Special:Contributions/132.183.151.160|132.183.151.160]] 21:22, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

== Photo booth (Snap Shak) - reference to the TARDIS? ==
+
-

+
-
Hi Homestar wiki!! :) I'm terribly sorry if I'm writing this in the wrong place; I have no experience with editing a wiki article.
+
-
Anyhow, I wanted to ask - did anyone else think that that the photo booth, Snap Shak, was a reference to the TARDIS from the British sci-fi show Doctor Who? Specifically what Strong Bad says as he steps inside for the first time - that it's bigger in the inside that it is on the outside, which is usually what people say when they enter the TARDIS for the first time :) I'm sorry if this has been mentioned before, I looked but didn't find any topics on it. Just thought I'd suggest it! {{unsigned|74.212.24.169|21:18, 26 August 2008}}

:Hi, Welcome to the wiki! No need to be bashful, this is the perfect place! I will mention that, on talk pages (not when editing an article), you should type <nowiki>~~~~</nowiki> at the end, which will insert a signature for you. Even though you're an anonymous user, it still makes the talk pages much more readable and easier to follow any discussion that happens under a topic.
+
-
:Re: TARDIS. I hadn't thought of that, but I definitely see the connection now &mdash; but it doesn't seem like that strong a connection. Unless what Strong Bad says is an exact quote or something obviously pointing at the TARDIS... It seems to me the concept is not all that uncommon otherwise, like a few of the cars or tents in Harry Potter, or even more poignantly the phenomena of the exterior graphics for a building in an adventure game being ''way'' not in proportion to the amount of space when you enter it... which happens in many, many games. {{User:GreenHelmet/sig}} 02:52, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for the warm welcome and the tip about signing my posts, GreenHelmet :) And thank you to DorianGray for pointing out that HomestarRunner has made this joke before. If it helps at all, the reasons I thought the Snap Shak was a specific reference was first of all, it's shape (it's no police box, but it is a tall, commonly seen structure that looks like it could only hold one or two people), obviously the quote about it being bigger on the inside than the outside, the comment Strong Bad makes about "...it's like it distorts time and space," reminded me of what TARDIS stands for (Time And Relative Dimension(s) In Space), and then, he immediately "sees" space right there, and of course, the huge wardrobe, since the TARDIS has one as well :) Unfortunately it doesn't travel through time, or it would be a perfect fit! It is a common joke, now that I think about it...I suppose I'm just such a big Doctor Who fan, I automatically associated it with the TARDIS! Haha. Well anyway, thank you for considering my suggestion :) --[[Special:Contributions/199.224.122.59|199.224.122.59]] 00:44, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

==Music References==
+
-

+
-
I don't know if things were supposed to run differently in the PAL Wii release, but there's been some form of misunderstanding regarding a couple of the music references in the Inside References section.
+
-

+
-
First of all, the two tracks at the track sound different than the referenced Bubs' Concession Stand track.  I swear that the first track (heard when doing whatever you want around the track) was an original track for the game itself, while the other (during the Free Country USA Triannual Race to the End of the Race *fanfare*) seems to be in a sbemail that has escaped the top of my head.
+
-

+
-
Secondly, the music I heard when outside the King of Town's cascle was not the theme for his Very Own (Quite) Popular Cartoon Show, but the music heard during Strong Bad, Homestar and Coach Z's flashbacks for The DNA Evidence.
+
-

+
-
Is this implying different changes between different consoles'/regions' releases?  Or was this false information on the front page to begin with? [[User:Rexy|Rexy]] 18:44, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
+
-
: You're right in that the music played outside the KoT's castle is not the KoTQPCS theme, and I'm playing the American Wii version. I also agree that the main Track theme is original. I don't recall what plays during the race. --{{User:Jay/sig}} 07:30, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
+
-
Yes, it's not the Of Town's Very Own Quite Popular Cartoon Show. Also, sbemail [[action figure]]. Both the email song and the music that plays when you view the action figures.<br>[[User:Joanassie|Joanassie]] 03:54, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
+
-

+
-
The track music is not original to the game.  It is from [[Toikey Day]], the "Falling Asleep On The Couch Watching Football Bowl" theme.
+
-

+
-
Can we maybe get some organization here?  Maybe lump all the music references under their own sub-heading or something?

I find it odd that Strong Bad claims that he "can't use the WavyMic, its door's stuck shut with nacho entrails and mangled action figures", and yet Homestar has no trouble opening and closing it. == WAD Files ==
+
-
I'm changing the real world reference about the wad files. Although this is a format that Wii Channels are packaged as, the Wii does not run the channels off of those files. Plus, many of the games that Strong Bad runs off of his files are .wad, implying that it's the .wad file that DOOM uses. [[User:Krazykevin2000|Krazykevin2000]] 02:39, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

+
-
:Yeah, so I didn't see this message before I went and changed it back. I don't really understand what you are trying to say above, perhaps you can explain it differently?  In any case, I know that the WADs from Doom have been referred to in the h*r universe before, but the one's used on the Wii seem more directly notable and relevant here.  Perhaps mentioning the Doom wads makes sense here, but not in lieu of the mentioning the Wii ones. {{User:GreenHelmet/sig}} 03:43, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
+
-

+
-
Wii WAD files are only used to install them using unlicensed software, in other terms, the WAD file is not used by Nintendo, but used to illegally use VC games and WiiWare. It's way more unlikely that they are referencing this file, instead of the DOOM WAD file they've used a couple times before (even in an [[SBCG4AP ad]]). So I think it should be changed back. *<i>Strong Bad's Deleted line, "Survey Says...DELETED!", is a reference to the popular game show Family Feud.</i>

There is a morning radio show popular in the South, [[Wikipedia:John Boy and Billy|The John Boy & Billy Big Show]], that has a game called John Boy Jeopardy. In it, they ask a question, and people call in to answer. Right before they are informed whether they are right or wrong, they hear the words "Survey Says:". I just learned that this is also a reference to Family Feud, but TBC are likely very familiar with this show, and this is the first thing i thought of when i saw this. ::::I agree with DeFender and Anonny. We don't need it, and it's just begging for trouble when everyone adds his or her own example to the list. ::::And for the record, I used to live in ''two'' of the states within the broadcast region, I have a father who sometimes listens to radio shows, and this is the first I've ever heard of John Boy and Billy. :::::Jay, (1) are you talking about that "don't add real-world references to the "la la, na na, and doot do" in the [[bottom 10]] page, for example? yeah i can understand your concern, but (2) the reason i brought this up is b/c it is more popular in the deep south, where tbc are from. i didn't know that they had expanded into the midwest yet, so if those are the states you've lived in, i can understand that you wouldn't have heard of them. (yeah i've given up on this already.) {{User:The Knights Who Say Ni/sig}} 03:16, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

::::::It's not ''quite'' the same as the "la la, na na, doot doo" thing; that's a TTATOT (This That and the Other Thing); a reference to an idea so general that it may as well not be a reference at all. This is a reference, but the original reference is to Family Feud, so that's what we note. One more thing, BTW, Strong Bad used the "Survey says" line in [[invisibility]]; we note Family Feud (and nothing else) there too. Notably, that appearance had him watching TV (''not'' listening to radio), and it had the Family Feud buzzer play. --{{User:Jay/sig}} 08:25, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

I am trying to play this game on the Wii U, and when I get to the scene where the KoT awards "Homestar" the trophy, the game freezes in the middle of the KoT's line (he does complete the line, but Strong Bad misses his response, and everyone stops moving in the middle of the line.) :: Do you still get this to happen after deleting and redownloading the game?  I just recently moved my Wii stuff to Wii U and had to redownload the game, so I can check on this, but it could take awhile.  Also someone probably should check the other four episodes to see if they act up on Wii U.  &mdash; [[User:Ngamer01|Ngamer01]] 16:29, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

::: Other four episodes already checked without a hitch. No, I didn't try deleting and redownloading. :::::::::Regarding Telltale's message: That's a bit of a disappointment - transferring a game from Wii to Wii U necessarily deletes it from your Wii permanently (unless you pay for it a second time), and you either transfer everything or nothing when you transfer - there's no in between.  RickTommy, if you have a PAL Wii U, go ahead and check. --{{User:Jay/sig}} 08:56, 16 March 2013 (UTC)

::::::::::Another data point: the game works for me on the WiiU, just played through from beginning to end (just the main story, not 100%ed). The trophy scene worked fine for me. For more stats: Australian-region PAL-format version of the WiiU, redownloaded copy of the game (had it stored on SD card on the Wii, so didn't transfer), connected to TV via HDMI (so really, PAL shouldn't matter). {{User:Phlip/sig}} 12:36, 16 March 2013 (UTC)

If you'd like to resolve the problem you noted with Strong Bad: Episode 1:Homestar Ruiner, I would first suggest that you change your Wii U console's "TV" settings to display in standard format, rather than widescreen; this can be done in your Wii U "System Settings" -not in Wii Mode</blockquote>

So basically if you want to play Homestar Ruiner, turn on the 4:3 display in Wii U's settings first before switching to Wii Mode to play Homestar Ruiner.  I can't believe I forgot about the noted widescreen freezes that force you play the game in 4:3 mode.  I keep my Wii U in 16:9 mode since 4:3 mode on Wii U looks terrible on a SD CRT TV.  &mdash; [[User:Ngamer01|Ngamer01]] 20:43, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
