{The stream begins with the players talking indistinctly over each other.}
SARAH: Okay. Chat, uh, I think the brothers jinxed me 'cause they're like "let's jump in early so we can make sure there's no technical issues" and then what happens, I have frickin' technical issues! So, uh, setup today for stream is a little different, so, apologies, it's probably not as smooth a video as we normally have... Actually, let me try {muttering indistinctly}... But yeah, so, let me know if you guys can hear us loud and clear, and, uh... yeah, I'll try to keep an eye on chat, but...
{The intro scene begins to play in the background.}
SARAH: But yeah! Everyone, thank you for joining us for a Walkabout Wednesday livestream, if our lovely guests want to introduce, we can start with the Coconuts. We've got Coconut Nate.
NATE: {waves} Hello.
SARAH: Yeah, what do you do... for us here at Walkabout Mini Golf?
NATE: I'm on the tech art team, I work primarily in rigging and animation for our courses, um, I've done a little bit of nab mesh in the past, sorry about that. Uh, but now that's been taken over by Carl and he's doin' much better.
SARAH: And then Coconut Jeff... which I think you were on a few months ago for Hollywood, but for anyone who missed that one... what do you do here?
JEFF: Yeah, yeah, I'm Jeff, I'm the other Jeff, Jeff squared, at Mighty Coconut. I'm also on the tech art team and I handle a couple of different things, I handle visual effects, I handle general course production, I handle the sound effects, and then I also handle some of the programming on Walkabout, so I kind of just get assigned on whatever needs done.
SARAH: Mm-hm. Very nice. Sweet, yes, we've got two Nates and two Jeffs, so, gotta clarify that. And then, our super duper special guests are the Brothers Chaps, if you guys, for anyone who's unfamiliar with...
MIKE: Hi.
SARAH: ...why we have you guys on here today, and...
MATT: There's a lot of people that are gonna be unfamiliar, so that's okay.
SARAH: Well. Educate us, let's hear it.
MATT: Uh, we...
MIKE: {simultaneously} I'm Mike.
MATT: We make...
MIKE: {simultaneously} I'm Mike.
MATT: {laughing} I'm Matt.
MIKE: You talk. I'm gonna hold it like a microphone. {holds the putter up to Matt's avatar}
MATT: We make Homestar Runner... Homestar Runner cartoons and have been doing so since around '99, 2000. Uh, Flash cartoon on the early internet, and then it has... we, uh, occasionally inject it, reinject it with life with cool creative art projects like, uh, like this! Um, so it was super cool to hear from Lucas and to get to work on this thing. We just got a weird, uh, an email from a mutual VR person, I had done some work with some Owlchemy people that did Job Simulator and stuff. I think I'm in... my voice is in Vacation Simulator, and then maybe one other of their games, and so... I guess Lucas knows the guy from Owlchemy, and they connected, and I just got a cold call... email from Lucas and was, uh, we were— and Mike and I had been playing Walkabout for probably a year...
MIKE: We were playing for about three or four month— yeah, yeah, and then, yeah. And, uh, we had... talked about, like, "Should we contact these people? It seems like it would be really amazing to try to work on something together", and then we were... we were lazy and didn't do it and luckily Lucas...
MATT: Or we just manifested it and—
SARAH: Yeah! Yeah! Right! Absolutely.
{Everyone talks over each other.}
NATE: That's the way cooler answer.
SARAH: Yeah, that's... yeah! So we're just gonna play through, uh, I guess... Strong Badia's the location's based off of, but officially within Walkabout lingo, it's Bubs' Concession Stand... and Many Golfs.
MATT: Yes. {moves over to Strong Badia} So technically this is just Strong Badia over here, is just this weird patch of dirt with this stuff, but...
MIKE: Just a wall, a patch of dirt, the sign, and the flag, that's Strong Badia.
MATT: Right. But a lot of people like to call... Strong Bad does not have any problem with people mistaking the larger Homestar Runner world as being all Strong Badia, he would happily take that. So it's an okay mistake to make.
SARAH: Yes.
MATT: But it is actually way more depressing. It is just this weird patch of... rippled dirt.
SARAH: Now we get to expand his little world. Um, but yeah, I guess, are we simultaneous? Or we got...
MATT: Are we doin' turns? Yeah, who's up?
SARAH: Yep, Nate.
MATT: So, uh, Nate— aww, I thought you were going to nail it first stroke.
NATE: ***.
MATT: So, Nate, what was the worst part of helping us rig these, uh, the puppet rigs? So if nobody know— I don't know if we've talked about this much in the... Any time the characters show up, it's actually a VR puppet rig that I'm wearing, me or Mike are wearing a headset and using controllers to control the characters' arms, but they look good because Nate made them all anchored and have real, like...
MIKE: We were all learning this, this project, right? Nate, isn't that— you didn't—
NATE: I had never rigged anything that needed to be puppeted quite like this, so, it was definitely a learning experience... and you're asking me what the worst part of it was? You're gonna make me immediately go into like, uh...
MATT: {laughing} Yeah! Nobody wants to hear the, like, fluff. Let's just hear how much it annoyed you and when and why.
NATE: Honestly, if I'm being so honest right now, it was when we first got the first rig rigged up, and you were like, "This is great! Can we mirror it?" And I just went...
MIKE: Ah, so that we can...
NATE: Yeah, yeah, yeah. We can... let me figure that out...
MATT: But hey, isn't it— at least we figured that out on the first rig, right, Nate? And you didn't get like ten deep and then we were like, "Hey, can you mirror all the controls?"
NATE: No. Honestly, like, it was a lot of... well, that was my stroke. It was really interesting to learn how to do, once we got kinda past the... the "not knowing anything" phase. {Matt laughs} 'Cause we... Full disclosure, we used like an add-on program and it was — they're not sponsors, so I'm not saying their name — so, um, there's not a whole lot of documentation around it, as we found out, and unfortunately that means a lot of figuring it out on your own, or talking to people on Discord.
MIKE: You're the expert now, Nate. You're—
MATT: Yeah, I was gonna say, don't make your information too public or now you're the person anyone that... that whole Discord server for that plugin is gonna come to you and be like, "Hey, how did you do that in the DLC?"
NATE: And that's why we don't say the name.
SARAH: {to a barking dog} Oi! Oi oi! Cricket!
MATT: I will say, though, I don't know how many untold hours of physical frustration you saved me by making it the mirrored thing, because when we've done live puppeteering, that's always, like having a monitor, that's always screws me up is being like, "No wait, oh, I'm going to the wrong side!" or "I'm supposed to be making the puppet go left and I made it go right", or which is Mike's left and which is Mike's right. So, uh, it became very comfortable and easy to do, I was doing it in— I would put the headset on, I would be at, like... I was visiting my mom, I was like at my mom's kitchen table, doin' VR hub capture... I did it at a hotel room... Uh, so you made it possible to make it very comfy.
SARAH: I would like to... oh, just real quick, I was able to meet you guys, but I think with my current setup... Sorry, chat, if you heard me being like, "Cricket, hush", 'cause my dog just started barking. So you guys don't have to hear that, but maybe chat... I'd like to apologize for that, if you guys heard that. Let's see, I'm trying to go through chat, we've definitely got a lot of people chiming in, so I think this is a good way for anyone who doesn't have VR but was excited that you guys are doing something with us to kind of check it out, and get a chance to ask you guys questions! But sorry, what were you gonna say, Nate?
NATE: Oh, uh, what was I gonna say? I think it was something just along the lines of, like, once we— it was incredible to see, like, once we got even just Strong Bad's rig up and running, how fast you guys were producing animations and, like, pumping out the vignettes and stuff, I was like, oh, okay.
MIKE: {laughs} Well, hopefully, yeah, I mean, hopefully, I know there was a...
MATT: {simultaneously} We were just trying to... Go ahead, Mike.
MIKE: I was just gonna say, there was a period where it's like, wait, was this quicker than doing, you know, like, traditional... animation in Blender or something, that you would've all had to do yourself, Nate? But I do think at some point with the volume that we did, it ended up being... for as much trouble as it did to sort of get everything set up, I do think it ended up saving us time and being a lot easier than doing that amount of animation manually.
NATE: Oh. I think... I can't even remember what the final count on animations was, but I think once we hit like 70 at some point, I was like, oh, whoa. {laughs}
MATT: Uh, I found the, uh, the original little mock-ups that I did, Nate, to send you for the... So Nate did like hand animation in a couple of different spots, the final one in Tourist Crap where Homestar's stuck in the cannon, and then the one where he launches Pom Pom, anything that wasn't just the characters standing perfectly still and just waggling their heads and hands, um, Nate did by hand. But I found the little proof of concept I did where it's me with an avatar in-game with nothing and then I just, like, badly used Premiere to stick a cutout of Pom Pom on or Homestar... But you nailed— it's very— your final project is, like... if you look at it, it's like, "Oh, here's the storyboards and then here's the thing", you, like, you're very good, uh... If I'm your client, I'm very satisfied. Like, what I gave you, like you nailed it, it's exactly like it, just 3D and really slick-lookin'.
NATE: You can't see it right now but I'm kickin' my foot and blushing really hard right now. {everyone laughs} Well, thank you. Honestly, it was a lot of fun to work on...
SARAH: Yeah, well, I asked you two, 'cause I know both of you are fans of Homestar, so how did both of you kind of get into it? Was there like a particular, um, I guess... short?
MATT: {whispering} Cartoon! They're cartoons!
SARAH: Cartoon. Well, I'm like, is it an episode? Sorry, I meant to train on Homestar...
MATT: You can say episode.
SARAH: Okay, I wasn't sure what, like, the... is it like clip? Video?
NATE: She doesn't want to get roasted in the comments.
SARAH: No, I know, right? Sorry, everyone. I was 7 when this came out, so...
MATT: Yeah, exac— no, you are fully excused, it is okay. We understand.
NATE: Well, Jeff, you wanna go...
JEFF: Yeah, I know for me, I think it was my uncle, like he was probably in his 20s and I was, I dunno, 10, 11, something along those lines...
MIKE: That's a good uncle right there, that's...
JEFF: He was a great uncle. He introduced me to you guys and I just became obsessed and watched it a ton, we bought the Strong Bad Email DVDs, I have the Kick The Cheat plushie over there...
MATT: Oh, the original? Like, from back...
JEFF: The original! The one where you kick, I think it still even works a little bit. It's, you know, it's kind of sad if you kick it, he goes {imitation The Cheat noises}
MATT: I have a bin full of replacement voiceboxes, I could, uh, I should send you a... replacement, if you're willing to do some open heart surgery on him, you can, uh, you can replace that voicebox.
JEFF: Yeah, I might need to hit you up about that. But yeah, I've been watching ever since, and... it's just hilarious. When I heard that we—
MATT: {simultaneously} Well, that was what we were—
JEFF: Oh, sorry, go.
MATT: Go ahead. No, no, you finish.
JEFF: When I heard, when Lucas was like, I think we're gonna do a Homestar thing, I was like holy ***. Oh, holy crap, I should say. {everyone laughs}
SARAH: Gosh darn it, you blew it! This is a family-friendly stream here.
JEFF: But seriously, I was freaking out. I was like, this is so awesome.
MATT: It's just accurate to the emotion of the...
JEFF: Exactly. I'm being honest and raw here.
MATT: We were happy that, when we... when we started meeting, uh, other members of the team and they were younger than Lucas, we were like worried, we were like, is this just like, Lucas is the only one that cares about this, and everyone's gonna be like, "This guy is like, it's like he's building the Titanic, we're all gonna go down with this Homestar Runner ship, I don't know what it is, and uh, Lucas has gone crazy, he's gone mad with power", so we were happy when anyone else on the team either knew about it... uh, Jeff Mills, too, that was very encouraging, he was dropping references that we were like, okay, this is at least someone else that is an old internet person that knows who the crap we are.
JEFF: It was a special time back then on the internet for sure.
MIKE: Remember when the internet was a fun place?
NATE: {laughs} Um, I think... I remember, obviously, I watched in high school, it was like that era of the internet where I was just old enough to be like, getting up to mischief with our friends, and Homestar Runner popped up, and we were just like, well, time to make this our whole personality for six months. And six months turned into about twenty years.
MATT: Aww.
NATE: But, I remember one of our first meetings together, I was like, okay, this is just like kinda meeting anybody else, and we were just talkin' as people and then all of a sudden, you busted out the Strong Bad voice and I think I made a noise that only dogs could hear. {everyone laughs} It was just like, whoa, that was involuntary. Crazy. I'm sixteen again.
MATT: Awww.
JEFF: Yeah, it was awesome when we heard about this collab. I was like, I don't care what else we do at this company or in this game, we're doin' the Homestar collab and that is gonna... that's gonna satiate me creatively for a long time.
MATT: Well, we've said, like, we were very fortunate that the two big video game collaboration things we did were like, back in the day, I loved all the LucasArts adventure games, specifically Sam & Max was like formative for me, and so then like, we just heard from some of the creatives that worked on that game, that were behind that game, were all ex-LucasArts people, and we got to collaborate with them. And then, again, like we said before, Mike and I had been playing this game and loving it, and then you guys happened to... So we've been lucky that it's like, we didn't have to prove ourselves... Like, you know, whenever we... The few conversations we had with any of the, like, network people, it's always like, there'd be one guy, one intern that knew what Homestar Runner was and then you'd meet the real people. And they'd be like, "So what is this thing?" And you had to kinda pr— "Is it just on the internet? Eh, that doesn't count." So it's always nice to come to a place where you're already— not that everyone should know who we are, but to feel like there's a mutual, like, you guys dug our stuff, we dug your stuff. A match made in VR heaven. Speaking of... {flies into VR heaven}
SARAH: Yeah, so you guys had collabed with... Owlchemy... Where are you going?
MATT: I'm going to VR heaven!
{Everyone laughs.}
MIKE: I thought that would be giant mode.
MATT: No, that's true.
SARAH: Okay, so you guys were familiar with VR before you did any collabs with Owlchemy? Or was that kind of the intro for that, and then you started exploring other VR games from there?
MATT: Yeah, I had a PS VR for the...
MIKE: You had like Beat Saber and stuff, right?
MATT: Yeah, yeah. Um, and so... but that was about it.
MIKE: {putts} Augh.
SARAH: Ooh, no, that was good!
MIKE: Purely accidental!
MATT: We're doin' great, by the way, we're on hole 3, guys, just...
SARAH: Well, we got so much chit-chat!
MIKE: {simultaneously} Twenty minutes.
SARAH: This is what people are here for.
MATT: But, uh, but honestly, because of it being tethered, and all the other limitations with those other things, it wasn't until our older brother was the one that convinced us, he was like, "Guys, there's a sale on the Quest", I forget, it might've been the 2 or when the 3S just came out or something. And he was like, "There's no excuse, do this, and then we can hang out with each other more often", he lives... still, we're in the same state, but he's... a considerable amount away, so we were like, "We can all hang out and play video games like we used to when we lived in the same house! You just have to buy this headset." So once we got Quest, it definitely... opened us up to, we were like, oh, there's all this stuff. And then everyone went away from VR, {everyone laughs} almost immediately.
MIKE: Right when we started working on this game in earnest, it was like...
MATT: Seriously, we were— that's another thing that, I don't know, obviously I hope for longevity for the business and for all the people that are involved in the VR stuff, but there was a moment where, I forget, Lucas was like, there was an unscheduled call or something and I was very worried that it was gonna be like a, "Uh, so guys, we gotta cut, you know, cut and run on this Homestar Runner thing. Sorry. We've gone too deep, it's not gonna be worth it." So I'm happy with everyone— {cuts out}
SARAH: Yeah, for sure.
JEFF: We were all on board.
SARAH: We really kinda just commit. I feel like we... just go for it. Luckily, we have the ability to do so.
NATE: We generally tend to commit way too hard and then have to walk back some things.
SARAH: Yes, and then everyone's like, augh, what have we done?
MIKE: This was kind of the opposite. I mean, like, the fact that the... Is it public knowledge that the 18 holes here were sort of a late addition to this whole idea?
SARAH: Shhh!
MATT: It wasn't the original plan, just say that.
SARAH: Look, we wanted to do something different, and... obviously everyone who plays our game, I think mini-golf is a big part of what makes them comfortable with, even if it's like, we do a collab and they're not familiar with it, the mini-golf is something they can rely on connecting with, and then I feel like we just did such a good job at blending it into the... and people seem pretty content with like, oh, it's seemingly simplistic but then it's actually really challenging.
MIKE: Yeah!
MATT: Yeah, I watched that video of that trickshot person that made the death hole be the hole for all 18 holes. Yeah. That's incredible. So if people are having that kind of fun with it, that's encouraging.
SARAH: Yes. For sure.
MATT: {putts into the death hole} Aw. Every time.
NATE: Speaking of.
MATT: I did it!
MIKE: Oh, do we— by the way, when we have hole celebrations and stuff like that, does everybody hear that? Or no?
SARAH: Yes.
MATT: Can I dip my putter in the yella paint and then draw on the green? When are you guys gonna implement that... feature?
NATE: And see, this is the overcommit stuff we were talking about. We gotta walk that stuff back, and it's like, "That's awesome! No. No. Finish the course."
MATT: But yeah, I'll retell... I'll retell the story about the Duck Pond Simulator that I had a whole... I was trying to turn it into a roguelike and had multiple kinds of bread that you could unlock that would do various things, that one would fill up the duck, one would slow the duck's metabolism, one would throw three cubes at a time, and Lucas got back from travelling and saw the sort of back-and-forth with me sending that to Jeff Mills and I think he was just kind of like, "All right, guys, this is maybe the very definition of feature creep?" So, someday, guys, if there's an add-on pack...
NATE: I was gonna say, it sounds like we've got a lot of stuff for an update pack.
MATT: Yeah. Exactly. Have you— {putts} oh, come on. I'm so terrible at this one. This one is my weakness. Have you ever added on to an add-on already? Like, aside from just patching, I'm sure there's like tweaks to fix.
SARAH: I think many months after Labyrinth, we had eventually rolled out avatars for it that were not originally included. Um...
MATT: Oh, that was late. Okay.
SARAH: Is that the... only example of that?
NATE: I wanna say that is kind of like, the only like true update we've done. Where it was...
JEFF: We've added hole celebration and ball trails to some of our other avatar packs as well.
NATE: That's true.
MATT: Was that later... Was the Exploding Kittens Foxhunt first and then the avatars were— was that all part of the same... at the same time?
SARAH: Yes. The... we, when Laser Lair came out, I guess we connected with Elan Lee who is the creator of Exploding Kittens and wanted to do something, and so that had been like the first of it, was doing the extra parts on Laser Lair and then eventually, we— {Jeff putts and the ball bounces around} Jeez!
JEFF: I was trying to trickshot.
SARAH: But yeah, I think it was like, wanted to do more, and we were rolling those out, and so I think it's a pretty good pairing. So, yeah, we then added the... when we started doing avatar packs, and then adding on ball trails and hole celebrations to make cosmetic packs!
NATE: So go buy cosmetic packs... if you haven't already.
MIKE: I was just gonna say, look up behind you, Nate. The Steep Deep, that white snowy mountain, tall mountain, back there? That I added late in the game?
SARAH: Oh, I know. Yeah, we've got Easter eggs up in here.
MIKE: That was... Yeah, there's an Easter egg up there, but that was one of the first things I ever made in Blender in like... March or February of 2020?
SARAH: Marvel in all its glory. Look at this. Seamless.
MIKE: I feel like I didn't really change it, so, don't look at the geometry, I'm sure it's very... I mean, not that all my Blender geometry's terrible, but that was one of the first things I ever tried to make.
NATE: That's awesome.
MATT: Let's go ridicule it.
NATE: Let's get really close to it now.
MIKE: Go inside of it and look at all of its bad edge loops.
MATT: What is up with these vertices, Mike?
NATE: I don't know, whenever I look at that mountain peak, my game lags.
{Everyone laughs.}
MIKE: There's more polygons in the tip of that mountain than...
SARAH: {putts} Dang it!
MATT: {strikes Carol} Is the guitar sound networked?
SARAH: Yeah.
MATT: Did you get the pick slide when I did it? Or did you get something else?
MIKE: That was the pick slide, yep.
MATT: Okay, 'cause there's other ones... The Drive-Thru Whale, I think, just... you hear a sound, but it's random for all of us.
MIKE: {simultaneously} You hear something, but it's not the same. {putts} I do love the flaming... the corner of the flaming Homestar Tofu is very nice. When that was added, I was... it's all I ever wanted, was...
MATT: Yeah, that was the actual— I just went into the cartoon that had the Tofu Homestar, and copy-pasted that drawing from, you know, 2002 or whatever. Just put it on a transparent ping, it's the original cel animation.
SARAH: I wanna apologize to Coconut Shane. He's havin' a lot of FOMO right now. Devastating. He did not get the invite. My bad, Shane!
NATE: Aww. Sorry, Shane.
MATT: Did we meet Shane at the pirate bar, Mike? Would Shane have been there, Sarah?
SARAH: No, he is not in Texas, yeah.
NATE: He's west coast.
MATT: Oh, he's west coast. Oh, sorry, sorry, sorry.
SARAH: Yes, yes, I've had the pleasure... I guess, Nate, were you there?
NATE: I wasn't able to make it...
SARAH: Okay, look, I was the only one who's had the...
MIKE: Yeah, it's crazy, 'cause we've... Yeah, were you the only... I couldn't remember, 'cause we've Zoomed with Nate so much over the last year that... I can't believe that we haven't met in real life.
NATE: You know, it's probably good to keep it professional for professional collabs, but now that we're not collabing... we {indecipherable} meet up somewhere.
JEFF: Yeah, exactly. Come back to Austin.
MATT: Cold Ones, we can have some Cold Ones. We can say that on stream, that's family-friendly.
NATE: Yes, Cold Ones.
SARAH: {goes over to the colored drinks} I was gonna say, pour one of these out for Shane here. One of these little... juices?
MATT: Uh, it's just, you know, two reds and a blue. Two reds, one yellow, and a blue.
MIKE: Cool drinks for cool cool guys? Something like that?
MATT: Yeah. Four cool drinks for four... cool guys? I dunno.
SARAH: I feel like a lot of it... Would you say this is the most...? Obviously there's not as many like animated or voice lines in this, so if you're not as familiar with Homestar you might miss a lot here, but I feel like... {indecipherable} but I feel like on Tourist Crap it's very, even if you don't know them, you know, you just immediately are charmed by all the characters and it's very entertaining.
MATT: That's good to hear. We did try to make it feel like you're intro-ing them, yeah, that's like "here's— this character has one trait, and you're gonna get it in that intro", it was nice... somebody that reviews your stuff on YouTube, it sounds like he wasn't familiar with our stuff at all, and was like, "and I felt like I got to know them", and I was like, great! So... sometimes we felt like that was a thing with the old Telltale... the game we put out for the Wii, that it was kind of like, just dropped you in with not, you know, you maybe could get a handle on character relations but there wasn't a whole lot of... It was kind of a crash course, so there wasn't a lot of on-ramping. As they say.
SARAH: I like Telltale.
MATT: As they say in the corporate world.
NATE: Ah, yes. The corporate world. When are we gonna make that course? Oh wait, it was Laser Lair.
MATT: {laughs} Yeah, kinda.
SARAH: Matt and Mike, what would you say your guyses'...
MATT: Then it just becomes Stanley Parable, if you do it too good, it just becomes Stanley Parable with golf.
JEFF: Legally distinct, obviously.
MATT: Which I will play! Yeah, yeah, of course. Corporate... Fable, is what you'd call it. Jimmy's Corporate Fable.
JEFF: What were you saying, Sarah?
SARAH: Oh, I was gonna ask our lovely guests, what your guyses' favorite— well, I guess everyone, what's everyone's favorite course from Walkabout? And then maybe, {indistinct} Homestar Runner content?
MIKE: I think mine is... My favorite course is, uh, Journey to the Center of the Earth was my favorite, that was the one that when I played, just the distinct sort of areas of it, go into the waterfall caves and just like, it was just, yeah, I dunno. Blown away by the...
SARAH: Were you familiar with Jules Verne before... Had you read it?
MIKE: I mean, not enough to know what was coming next, you know?
SARAH: Gotcha, gotcha.
MIKE: So yeah, when all that happened, and the geyser at the end, and all that stuff, yeah, that was the one that... one of the first ones I played, and then I was hooked.
MATT: I like nighttime in Quixote Valley, I always like sit there and just watch the storm and cuddle with that sheep indoors. Which, one of my kids loves that, they were like, "It ate the pie! You could see that it ate the pie!" What's its— does it— are you not allowed to say its name?
SARAH: No no no. Uh, is it Spuds? The one that eats... And Turnip's the tongue one? And Spuds is the pie one? This is an Emma question. I don't think she's in chat right now. Emma!
NATE: Emma, rescue us!
MATT: I like that, and then I think overall course-wise, Widow's Walkabout is... As a huge dark ride and specifically Haunted Mansion enthusiast, Widow's Walkabout is pretty fantastic. That creepy doll.
NATE: That was Jeff's kinda baby. Wasn't it? Weren't you the one?
JEFF: Yeah. Yeah, it was... yeah, me and Colby. But yeah, so...
MATT: The course or the doll?
JEFF and NATE: The doll.
SARAH: Like, spying.
MATT: Oh, no, dude, that's the best thing.
MIKE: It creeped our older brother out, he's like "DID YOU SEE THAT?" and I was like, no, and {indecipherable} "THERE'S A DOLL!"
MATT: Yeah, well, what's great is that... there are definitely a couple of stories in our real life where I feel like our brother, that had happened, where he like thought he saw something freaky happen in real life, and it's like, "this is so perfect, it just happened, you replicated this moment from our childhood"...
MIKE: There was a head on— remember the head on the side of the road? One time we were driving at night...
MATT: Yeah, that's immediately what I was thinking, yeah. We were drivin' around looking at this rich neighborhood's Christmas decorations, and then he slams on the brakes and he's like "DID YOU GUYS SEE THAT?" and we were like, what? He was like, I know, it couldn't have been this— there was a head on the side of the road. And so we go down, we turn around, come back, nothin's there, go around, turn back again to start heading home, and then it's there again and we all see it, and then eventually we just realized it's just some dumb kids that are like "oh, lots of people are coming to this neighborhood to look at the Christmas decorations, let's stick a gross monster head next to the side of the road when people are passing by". But for, you know, for fifty seconds I thought there were monsters on the world.
{Everyone laughs.}
NATE: That's awesome.
SARAH: Are you playing seated, Jeff?
JEFF: I am.
{Everyone talks over each other.}
SARAH: Like the only way I play now. I never stand playing.
JEFF: I know, I'm being lazy.
MIKE: What does winner get in this, by the way?
SARAH: Glory?
MIKE: What does winner take home in this? I think I'm in the lead.
MATT: Oh dang, I haven't even looked at the score.
MIKE: I'm not doing well, but I'm in the lead.
SARAH: I'm just celebrating not being the worst, at least for the time being. Normally my role on these streams.
NATE: I was just gonna say, you're doin' two jobs right now, Sarah, so it's forgivable.
SARAH: Thanks. Well, I play every week, so you'd think I'd be better, but I don't... I'm reluctant to learn, I just want to be stuck in my ways and not learn the good ways to play.
JEFF: Well, if you want to do a real challenge, we can take it to the dartboard in the basement.
MATT: There you go. Yeah, we haven't really done a lot of that, where it's like, play horse, where you basically are like "all right, Homestar's left eye" and you gotta try and like nail Homestar's left eye.
MIKE: Oh yeah, you could do that with, uh, bouncing balls into the Golbol or the crisper drawer too.
NATE: That is a weird phenomenon that I think just kind of like evolved, where, when we do like meetings in headset, it's inevitable that we'd find a spot where we all just like toss balls into like, an area.
SARAH: I think we've finally learned to like keep our composure, but very much when we first added like the big room capability, we were all just chucking balls like at Lucas as he was talking to one of us, so I think... we've like come a long way in our restraint.
NATE: We don't throw balls at the speaker anymore.
JEFF: Nope. But, I think we do a good five minutes at the beginning of I think a couple meetings, everyone to get their {indecipherable}...
NATE: We've got a little slop time at the beginning.
MATT: {bounces the Tire} Oh, oof! I didn't mean to hit it.
MIKE: I was glad— this is one of my favorite things too, whackin' the outdated electronics.
NATE: Yeah, this is so fun. {laughing} Can we talk about these, Jeff?
MATT: Yes, what was the... tell us the behind the scenes, give us the hot tea.
JEFF: Yeah, when we... internally, we were doing a meeting in here just trying to figure out what needed work and whatnot, and I think Jeff Mills had initially put in these particle systems, but he just threw it in there and went off, 'cause he was very very busy, and the particles weren't set up in a way to handle this many pieces of electronics flying out, so if people were over here just smacking these electronics, everyone's game would just start horribly lagging.
{Everyone laughs.}
MATT: Oh no!
NATE: Yeah, to be fair, it's on us to optimize it, you know?
MATT: Yeah, I would be fine with this being one quarter of the amount of things that fly out, like {Mike and Matt talk over each other}
JEFF: Well, that's the difference I think, with me, I wanted all of them, and part of my job is optimization for the game, and so I was like "we're gonna have, you know, this many pieces of springs and parts flying out". So I did some work to optimize it. I figured if we could send people to the moon with the computational ability of a calculator, we can certainly spawn 20 or so pieces of electronics coming out of this... TV.
MATT: {laughs} I love how many— my favorite part is how many circuit boards are in this old like Magnavox CRT television. And springs, and like, car... chocks.
MIKE: Yeah, and the 8-track player, too.
NATE: You know, honestly, in today's market, this is probably worth its weight in gold.
JEFF: Oh, those circuits are... yeah, totally.
MATT: Yeah, exactly.
NATE: And that's all I'm gonna say about that.
MATT: All right, this is exactly what we did with Lucas as well, when Lucas was in here with Strong Bad, I think we all just sat here and... sorry.
NATE: It's called a distraction pack!
MATT: Oh, I'm first, all right, sorry, it's my... I'm the reason...
MIKE: I can't remember, does the tire disrupt the ball?
JEFF: No, it does not.
NATE: {simultaneously} I don't think so, no.
SARAH: {simultaneously} Oh, that was a good shot.
MATT: There we go. There we go.
MIKE: I can't remember, I watched the hole-in-one technique on this one and I can't remember...
MATT: Oh no. Seated putting finally got you?
JEFF: Yep. It did.
{Sarah putts the ball through a gap in the electronics.}
MATT: Ohhh, no way! I've never seen anybody do that.
NATE: What were you just talking about, Sarah? "You'd think I'd be better at this!" You just snuck it... That was crazy.
SARAH: Now, everyone's... I'm not planning anything. I don't do any practice or nothing. Just feel it out and then sometimes it works.
NATE: I'm just saying, somebody brought up what are the stakes right now, and Sarah locked in.
{Everyone laughs.}
MIKE: That's true!
SARAH: Nah, when I first started working here, and I introduced my brothers, like... "Sarah, did you like have to be good at this to get the job?" and I was like, no! They need amateurs on the team too, to break the perspective!
JEFF: Exactly, that's what I always say. Yeah, I was definitely also not hired because of my mini-golf abilities, as you guys have seen.
MATT: That's why you let Mike and I do modeling and animation and stuff for you, it's 'cause we're absolute amateurs!
{Mike laughs. Matt and Nate start talking.}
MATT: Oh, go ahead, Nate.
NATE: I feel like it's only from the minds of people who don't have like... are burdened with the knowledge of what the restrictions are, can come up with like something, hyper-ambitious, though.
MATT: Right. It does take, right, somebody to be like... and then someone like Jeff can be like, "Yes, it was too much to ask this many pieces flying out of old electronics, but we can make it happen!"
NATE: Part of the fun is seeing how crazy we can get it.
MATT: Yeah, well, I will say that... I mean, you know. My roguelike bread-throwing Duck Pond Simulator ambitions aside, that there's not a whole lot we asked for that didn't actually end up happening. Like, there wasn't a whole lot of "no"s, where it was like, Mike and I are like, "oh, this!" and it'd be like "huh, we really can't do that". I'm trying to think, Mike, can you think of any other things we kinda wanted... to happen that were... just like, nah, that's too much, we don't have the time do that, or it's gonna take too much...
MIKE: Yeah, no, not... not really. The spray paint cans on the graffiti wall was too late in the game, we didn't even bother asking.
MATT: {laughs} Where you could actually pick 'em up and spray paint with 'em?
MIKE: Yeah, pick it up and spray paint.
SARAH: That's just {indecipherable} for what I, as the community manager, am gonna have to deal with.
{Everyone talks over each other.}
MIKE: 'Cause we even talked about making, where you could reposition the post-it notes, Matt, I think, and I think that was, we were like, no, people will...
MATT: The same thing.
SARAH: Expect the worst.
MATT: You know what they're gonna do.
MIKE: Yeah, right. Anytime you've got customization...
JEFF: Yeah, I feel like we did go a little hard on adding features to this pack, but I think with, you know, the amount of fans we have here, like what were we gonna do, say no to Homestar? Like we were gonna add everything we possibly could.
MATT: {laughs} Aww.
MIKE: Yeah, I mean, the Cheat Commandos thing became way more full-featured than we ever expected...
MATT: Well, yeah, that's why I recorded— I think there's like sixty something lines of dialogue, 'cause like once Jeff had that in there working, I was like, well, I have to like, deliver, this can't just be like, a handful of little quotes, now that he's put this infrastructure in, I was like, you have to be able to play an entire Cheat Commandos cartoon basically, with these playsets.
MIKE: Yeah, did you end up doin' that? Is there a streak of specific... set of things that tell a story?
MATT: Yeah, it's not... there's a couple that could be interchangeable, but yeah, there's basically I think 13 sounds? It's the ones that have background music, so if you find a combination with background music it's part of a larger narrative that is about, uh, Blue Laser trying to steal the Cheat Commandos' snack treats. Because they like their branded snacks better than the Blue Laser branded snacks.
NATE: So Walkabout Mini Golf is canon in the Homestar-verse.
MIKE: {laughs} Yeah.
NATE: We did it, Jeff.
JEFF: Yes, we did it.
MATT: Oh, here we go, I've got the Eh! Steve! ball on the Eh!th Steve! hole.
MIKE: Would that make something... really crazy and amazing happen, right?
{Matt putts. The ball bounces off Eh! Steve!'s teeth.}
MATT: {laughs} I blew it!
SARAH: That looks like an evil Brave Little Toaster, I don't know what the character is, but...
MATT: Yeah, I get it! Absolutely. So, Eh! Steve!, uh... we've talked about occasionally being like, oh, should we like, do a charity auction with some of our old artwork or old sketches? But Eh! Steve!'s the one we can't, because on this thing that had like... it was when our dad was still helpin' us with the business side of things, so it has like, sales numbers and all this {indecipherable} data on it, and I just drew basically that, I drew Eh! Steve! and I was playing Wind Waker, so his little, like on the back of him, he's got these little... or, I guess you can't see 'em in this version... he's got these little kind of like, Greek-lookin', you know, square designs on him. And I drew that on this weird, like, the third-quarter analysis spreadsheet or whatever for Homestar Runner. And I think I wrote the word "Eh! Steve!" and then we eventually got— we were like, all right, we gotta put him in a cartoon sometime. Aw, he chomped you out. Sorry, I picked the loudest hole to try and tell a long story.
SARAH: {laughs} You're good.
NATE: You are good.
SARAH: So, as someone who isn't as familiar, uh, if it's okay to ask some more generic questions about... okay, so this is Flash Player, or Flash animation, uh... no, and then originally created in Mario Paint... or something?
MATT: Yeah, you're right! Well, yeah, we made our first cartoon...
{Mike starts talking at the same time, then stops.}
MIKE: We made a book...
{Matt starts talking at the same time, then stops.}
MIKE: Sorry, we're lagged.
MIKE and MATT: You go.
{Everyone laughs.}
MIKE: {laughing} We made... the original book was just a book we made copies of at Kinko's in 1996, and then we used Mario Paint to animate a theme song video like a year later? And so that was the first animation, but that was it...
SARAH: And this was just for fun?
MIKE: Oh yeah. Still is.
SARAH: {overlapping} Are you guys... were aspiring animations, or...?
MATT: No, we were making a weekly cartoon even for fun for, I mean, about a year before we actually quit our full-time jobs. So yeah, from '99...
MIKE: {overlapping} Yeah, so it was always just for fun, it was always... {Matt stops talking} I'm gonna stop talking until you start again, Matt.
MATT: Uh, anyway, yeah, so then, once Flash 4 came out and had the ability to put sound in animation that you could publish on the web, and I had just gotten out of film school, and film— digital stuff wasn't really a thing yet, and film is expensive, and there was no film work in Atlanta. Uh, they weren't makin' Avengers movies in Atlanta yet. So, we were like, oh wait! We can make content with this thing. And so, Mike was like, well, we got these characters that him and our buddy Craig made up years ago, so we... that was why it was Homestar Runner, but it wasn't really that we were like setting out to be... cartoonists, or any of that. We were just like, we can make junk and share it with our friends over the internet, let's try it. Um, I never played this game rolling the tire over the bridge, it's fun. It's like weird volleyball.
MIKE: Ooh, nice!
SARAH: Just going for it. {putts}
MATT: There you go. Augh! Wait, so did that... did that make the tire bounce, or did you just happen to touch it, Mike?
MIKE: Oh, I didn't...
MATT: It looked like Sarah's ball made the tire bounce, but maybe it was an optical illusion.
MIKE: {simultaneously} I wasn't over there when it... yeah, it made the tire bounce, I wasn't there yet.
NATE: Hit it, Jeff. We've discovered a new feature to our game.
MIKE: Try it, Matt, you're right behind it.
MATT: Here we go. Here we go. Here we go. Come on! Yeah! It moves the tire!
MIKE: But the ball didn't... wasn't aff— or, no, it did, right? It bounced off the...
MATT: Yeah, did it bounce off it, or did the tire... like, I can't tell if that changed the trajectory of the ball or not. But did the ball, like, have physics from it?
JEFF: I don't think the ball was affected.
MIKE: Play it again, play it again.
MATT: Oh yeah, you could do the replay.
SARAH: Question for Matt and Mike, outside of Walkabout, are you guys working on anything right now? That you can discuss?
MATT: Yes, there's a... yeah, there's a card game, a party game that's sort of our... after we made a Trogdor board game years ago, a card game that is Dangeresque-themed which is Strong Bad's sort of private eye persona. It's called Crime Scene Tamperer, and so that I think will be out late this summer, so yeah, we gotta pivot from... hawking this VR game, to hawking our in-real-life analogue card game. And then, yeah, as far as Homestar goes, that's mostly taken up our time.
MIKE: We keep wanting to make more stuff in Mario Paint once they made Mario Paint available on the Switch Online collection.
MATT: Yeah, and this is the 30th, this summer is the— or no, I guess this Christmas, right? Will be the 30th anniversary of making that first cartoon in Mario Paint.
MIKE: Yeah, Christmas of '96.
MATT: We should try and remake it in Mario Paint. 'Cause for some of it, you could hook up a RCA cable to a Nintendo and record on a VCR your Mario Paint animation, but then for other stuff, it's just us filming the TV with like a camcorder, so it looks really really crappy. So, we'll have a full HD 16-bit Super Nintendo version of some of our animation. But yeah, we'd like to do that for the 30th anniversary.
NATE: That'd be awesome.
SARAH: For sure. So, you guys have been...
MATT: {simultaneously} What else? We also...
SARAH: Oh, no, continue.
MATT: No, you say it. I was gonna make something up.
{Everyone laughs.}
MATT: So it wasn't a real answer.
MIKE: Fake project that we're gonna have to back ourselves into, 'cause Matt said it on a live stream.
SARAH: I was just gonna ask if, it sounds like you guys have been into gaming for quite some time?
MIKE: Since probably 1980, or '79 maybe? I remember playing that motorcycle Stunt Cycle game in 1979 in our basement in Indiana.
MATT: Yeah, it was like this awesome— it was just two handlebars, and there was no other cartridges for it, like the whole console just plugged into your TV and it had two handlebars. And you accelerated and jumped... barrels? Right? Is that what you were doin' on the...
MIKE: Buses! Or, squares. I think they were buses— in my mind they were buses. Maybe they were barrels. They were black rectangles.
MATT: Our oldest brother... {gets a birdie} Yeah!
STRONG BAD: {singing} You got birdie... but you prob'ly coulda done better...
MATT: Oh, come on, Strong Bad, give me a break.
MIKE: {putts into the water} I watched the video, I thought I was hitting the right spot.
MATT: Did you watch the hole-in-one ones on this one?
MIKE: I watched the hole-in-ones and thought I remembered the right spot to hit, but... oh, that's not me. Apparently I am not hitting the right corner.
MATT: But what I was gonna say, Sarah, was that we had an older brother that was like an early adopter of video games and stuff, from like, you know... Pong and Atari and take us to the arcade, to PC, like I remember him, he had the like, CD-ROM drive, I feel like the CD-ROM drive cost like five thousand dollars or something in like 1991 or whenever he got it, it was more than like a Mac tower would cost now. Or whatever you call the like, workhorse one. So, we were very fortunate, we had an older brother that was irresponsible with money, and bought a lot of video games, so we got to play a lot of video games always for whatever the latest system was, so we were always kind of on the cutting edge of that stuff. Playin' networked Doom and Warcraft II and stuff early on, or usin'... I remember him being on Microsoft Flight Simulator, like for DOS, connected on a modem and stuff like that, so, yeah, anyways. We were steeped in probably older, even for our age, a little older, just 'cause he was older than us, so we were little kids... I remember for first grade, it was Easter in first grade and in my Easter basket, I got a formatted five-and-a-quarter-inch floppy disk so I could save my own programs and stuff. And that was like, I thought I was truly living in the Tron future of my dreams.
SARAH: What's everyone playing right now?
MATT: I just got... well, I'm very behind on it... {someone says "Walkabout"; Matt laughs} Yeah, Sarah, isn't that obvious?
SARAH: Yeah, other than Walkabout, the best game ever made, yadda yadda yadda.
MATT: A friend recommended that game Superliminal to me that does all the crazy weird like perspective stuff, I don't know if you've... it's a couple years older, or more at this point, but it's like where you walk into a hallway and it looks like there's... a chess piece, and you pick the chess piece up and then, but depending where you put it down, it'll like get huge or get small. Like it's all about... weird perspective and...
SARAH: You know what other game you can pick up chess pieces in?
{Everyone laughs.}
MIKE: I have no idea.
SARAH: Walkabout. {clears throat}
MATT: Can you still... probably not in this version of the game, in an early build, when you could pop in and out of the basement easier, out on Welcome Island, you could steal the Cheat Commandos from the basement and go out in Welcome Island, so we'd go put 'em up onto the chessboard.
SARAH: Oh, that's fun.
NATE: I've been playin' some Forgotten, er, Forbidden Solitaire... and some Meccha Chameleon with friends.
SARAH: Okay, that looks fun, I've seen a lot of videos of that.
NATE: Yeah. I say we put a Walkabout level in there in the Steam Workshop and you know, that just seems like some easy groundswell right there. Maybe this... actually, this would be a great level for Meccha Chameleon. Obviously we would get the approval from all parties. {clears throat}
MATT: So is it just like hide-and-seek, but then when you get to a surface, you can then blend in with it, your texture just...
SARAH: You like paint yourself into it.
NATE: You get to paint with your... yeah.
MATT: Right. And could you do multiple? Like could you like sit on the ground and have your legs be the ground and your body be...? Or is it always one texture?
NATE: Oh, yeah, so it's just a paint dropper that you like, sample the surrounding area so like, if you're in a seated pose, you could paint your legs like, you know, green and like... brown if you're up against the wall.
MATT: Oh, so you just get like drawing tools? Like there's eye dropper and then like, paint bucket or something?
NATE: It gets weirdly robust.
MATT: Awesome.
NATE: It's somethin' fun to play, you can make a private room and it's fun to play with like friends and family.
MATT: Yeah, I have to say, for something that sounds like it has a derivative name, or a... oh, wait! Somebody got the stroke limit, did it play a thing for you?
SARAH: Yep. Yep.
MATT: Which one did you get?
{Everyone talks over each other.}
MIKE: I asked Lucas if it was possible to get a hole-in-one, and I watched the video, it is possible, but it's pretty hard.
MATT: {looking through the cardboard periscope} Oh, look, you can actually look through this, Mike! I'm aiming at the Stone Bridge, we're gonna take out— fire torpedoes one and two at the Stone Bridge.
MIKE: I'm surprised we didn't ask them to, yeah, make something happen when you looked through it.
SARAH: I guess at one point we added the tele... er, the, what was it called?
MATT: Periscope!
SARAH: Periscope! From 20,000 Leagues into Welcome Island, we should've dropped it in there next to it. Like its little brother or something.
{Everyone laughs.}
MATT: Who's up? Who's up?
NATE: Did we lose Jeff?
JEFF: I'm here.
MATT: Did we lose Mike? Oh, no, there's Mike. Mike's peeing on that bush.
MIKE: I'm trying to not trigger the Safariquest Adventure and the boop-boop-boop! Everywhere I move I'm triggering sounds.
MATT: Oh yeah, this area, maybe we... guys, in the next patch notes, let's, uh, decrease the size of these trigger areas, for...
NATE: You know what, I'm sure somebody watching is actually taking notes and gonna be like, is that a real request?
SARAH: Ooh, pressure's on, Coconuts! Can't leisurely watch. Um, the music that's playing in here, this is composed by Chris, did you guys advise on tha— {Mike gets a birdie} oh!
MATT: No, this is all composed by— nice work. Uh, no, so this music is actually all, this is some of our various theme songs that used to be— aw, I did it again, I didn't mean to trigger that, I'm sorry. Um, who was a fan that we ended up meeting online weirdly, Rich Trott, who does this amazing stuff, he did these awesome like Vince Guaraldi Charlie Brown Christmas sort of remixes of some of our stuff several years ago online and we were blown away by it. And so we reached out to him and we've been in contact doing various things, he's done music for a few other things on the site, and so we were like, hey, we'd like this to be sort of a medley of the best of, you know, songs from cartoons, can you string 'em together? And so this is all him, Rich Trott, the only one I think he didn't do in our DLC stuff is the StrongBadZone music. But everything else, he made these little medleys. That awesome Trogdor that has the shreddy guitar in it, he did... and in the basement, that basement loop as well, and the Dangeresque, yeah, all of it. This guy Rich Trott, look him up, it's Palace Family Steak House I think is his YouTube and Bandcamp handle.
NATE: Incredible.
MATT: All his stuff is really good. He makes hilarious— {putts} all right, this is the worst thing I've ever done. He makes really funny mash-ups where there's like, he'll take like a Rush song and a Strong Bad song and mash them up. Uh, there's a Fhqwhgads and... Britney Spears maybe? Toxic, I think? Is that the one, Mike, that he... yeah, he's a talented dude.
JEFF: That's awesome.
SARAH: Okay, Jeff, you've got this. Redemption time.
JEFF: I could do this. About two feet, here we go.
SARAH: We're properly putting this time.
JEFF: Yep. Here we go. Usin' my full arm, not the wrist. {putts, sinks the ball}
NATE: My God. A work of art.
MATT: Now I almost wanna get the stroke limit, 'cause I forget what Strong Bad says on the stroke limit. In one of 'em he sings "everybody to the limit, the stroke, the stroke limit, everybody come on Fhqwhgads". {putts into the water} Nope. Let's see if I can do it. What am I up to? Oh, I'm only on four, okay.
SARAH: Ooh, second place, let's go! Wooo!
MATT: {putts into the water} Nope. Nope. Best guy ever.
MIKE: How far back are you, Sarah, from the...?
SARAH: I'm just one point.
MIKE: One stroke back, dang.
SARAH: Yeah. I'ma getcha.
MIKE: Yeah, I do believe it was hole 5 when I mentioned the stakes, and then since then it's on par or birdie.
SARAH: Oh yeah, look at that!
MIKE: Yeah, you're doing pretty good. It really was just hole 5 that you did...
MATT: Oh wait, so hole complete just does nothing? No matter what? What's the difference between hole complete and stroke limit?
MIKE: If you make it on your last stroke.
MATT: Oh, okay, so that was the limit, all right. Got it.
MIKE: Yeah, that was the limit, but you sank it on that last stroke, so.
NATE: I was just gonna say, you just don't get the shame of stroke limit. It's still the same score.
SARAH: This ball trail is so good. So vibrant.
MIKE: Yeah, the basement?
SARAH: Really into it, yeah.
MIKE: What are the other ones? I can't even remember... is there another one?
JEFF: I think it's just that one.
MATT: No, yeah, we just did that one. Yeah, we talked about a flaming Trogdor one, but... Come on. Who's in a race to the bottom with me?
NATE: Uh, after that shot...
MIKE: I did really bad in the Talkabout with Lucas, but I'm trying to redeem myself.
NATE: Oh, you're on a redemption arc? I had no idea.
SARAH: {simultaneously} My grandma says hi.
MATT: Aww! Hi, grandma!
SARAH: My grandma watches every stream. Grandma, big deal to the house, big important people I'm workin' with here!
MATT: Nnnope. {gestures to Suudsu} Hey, Mike, tell everybody that doesn't know what this beverage is.
MIKE: Yeah, Suudsu? It was milk with gummy bears in it, and I dreamt about it, right?
MATT: Yeah, that's the story you're supposed to tell!
MIKE: Yeah, no, I was thinking it myself. I mean, it was at this point, that was 23 years ago, or something.
MATT: You don't remember all your dreams from 23 years ago?
MIKE: Well, the ones that have been immortalized in Homestar cartoons, like the United States wearing tighty-whities, I remember. And that one, and Bronco Trolleys, right? Bronco Trolleys was the other...
MATT: Yeah, that was another dream.
MIKE: I'm confusing myself with Strong Bad, right? 'Cause Strong Bad had the USA dream, right? Not me?
MATT: Yeah, but it was because you had it.
{Mike and Matt talk over each other.}
MIKE: At this point, the line is so blurred.
NATE: If we're being honest, this feels like a warning sign of, like... diabetes. {everyone laughs} If you're dreaming of this, this is probably your body goin', abort.
MIKE: I changed my ways, that was a long time ago, I'm still alive, I'm doin' fine, I think maybe I made some changes.
MATT: Tell 'em what the Kirkwood bubble tea was, though, Mike.
