Sender of email

It's amazing what Google can do. Check this out. It probably shouldn't go on the page for privacy reasons, but it's interesting nonetheless. Has Matt? (talk) 01:26, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Oh, well done! Not sure if there's a privacy issue here, since it's a public profile. Hmmm, didn't we have a discussion about identifying email senders after H*Bad pretended to have sent one. Not sure what the outcome was. Loafing 01:30, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
The H*Bad discussion can be found at Talk:unnatural#This is my email. As for this one, I don't really know much about privacy issues and such. Has Matt? (talk) 01:41, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
We didn't do much when I researched The Nitwon. --DorianGray 04:11, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
Aye, the sender was I. I know you'll all be wanting proof so here is my best shot at this. Here are two screenshots I took that hopefully shed light on this. I expect scrutiny on this and welcome it. I did black out the email addresses in my box for privacy reasons, as well as one letter in my personal email address. I present My Sent folder as exhibit A. As exhibit B, I present a Facebook message I received from someone else who looked up PlasticDiverGuy on Google. As I work evenings (see the timestamp in Exhibit A), I didn't read this until Monday afternoon. This Facebook message was how I found out about my email getting used. For Exhibit C, I'll give you the story behind the email. To avoid possible privacy issues at work, I have not made it public on my Facebook profile yet, even with a wall post linking to the email. The smunderling involved does not watch H*R to my knowledge, as evidenced by his reaction to my The Cheat shirt one day recently. Once a few weeks goes by, there will be enough time passed that I can make up an alibi if anyone at work confronts me on it.[p]
One of the employees on my team brought forward a concern to me that someone's stench was bothering her (heavy cologne). This was the first time I had to pull someone aside about this awkward issue, and thankfully my boss helped me through it. Later, a fellow manager asked me how the feedback went. The words tact and professionalism were used in this exchange (he was an English major). That night, when I got home, I had just visited H*R and thought to myself, "What would Strong Bad suggest?" I had addressed it that night in a highly awkward meeting and knew Strong Bad had to live with Strong Mad and had mentioned SM's smelly singlet in a prior email. On a whim, I sent the email. The email was written first. The final two additions were the catchy subject line (which took longer to write than the email), and the signature. I had planned on using my real name (see above link), but remembered that Annis (pronounced ANN-ISS) is easily mispronounced as "anus" and Strong Bad liked making fun of names. I signed off using the handle I have used for years, which is a reference to PBS' Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego. It was obscure enough to not be taken on Fark.com (Plastic Diver Guy there) so I ran with it. I currently play on the MSN Gaming Zone (usually poker) as PlasticDiverGuy (15 char. limit there so no spaces) and on the Neverwinter Nights server Arelith as PlasticDiverGuy (also my forum name there). I used it on my WAYN profile for kicks. I haven't updated that in years. For those who are wondering where the blurb at the end about Opera's email client, I deleted that for the sake of saving space and TBC's time. - All you wanted to know about PlasticDiverGuy:

Real Name: Mark Annis

Location: Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Age: 27

Employed currently as a bus driver for Metro Transit in Halifax. At the time of Sbemail171, I was a team leader at a call centre and I actually did have to talk to someone because of a complaint I got about an underling's stench. I wrote that email that night at 4am after speaking with the employee. I was alerted via a random person on Facebook that my email was used.

Discovered H*R in 2002. I watched week after week as the weekly SBEmail would be posted on Fark.com. Eventually, my curiousity got the better of me and I clicked the link. The email was guitar and I've been hooked ever since.

Submitted email #171, underlings

Also uses handle on the following sites:

YouTube, MSN Gaming Zone, Fark.com (the first place I used it back in 2004), Arelith forums and on the Arelith NWN server, WAYN.com (signed up years ago, then abondoned it. Came up in google search for PlasticDiverGuy)

Plastic Diver Guy gave out clues on PBS' Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?. He had a catchy theme song, performed by Rockapella, "He lives a life of danger! Our underwater ranger! The one and only Plastic Diver Guy!" He'd then give the clue. At the end, some horrible fate would befall our little plastic man when the ominous "Oh no!" music came in, like a shoe falling on him. I picked him as a handle because noone else did, and I could easily (though with blank looks) explain its source.

Fun Fact: I own the T-shirt my email spawned and wore it to work on more than one occasion. Gotta love tact and professionalism.
