Is there a reason there's a category called "Sound Effects" that includes pages for Geddy and... a different one for everything else? Why not have Geddy on Sound Effects? --notstrongorbad 04:27, 4 Oct 2005 (UTC)

- No, I don't mind. But I'd like to say one thing about Sound Effects, as I pioneered the whole article. I always had the idea that it would just be for sound effects that were used in different fashions. For example, using Homsar's walking noise for another, unrelated sound. I didn't include sounds that repeat themselves in the same way (i.e., the wrong answer buzzer on Main Page 19 is the same sound as in geddup noise, but it's used exactly the same way). I didn't include such things on the list, since it wouldn't flow as well with the columns (specifically the 'Also Used By' column, since it's being used by the same thing), but maybe we could include a second list of sounds that are reused in the same fashion, like the Geddup Noise. I just felt the need to explain myself... --DorianGray
- I dohnknow, Dorian; if we did that, and were consistent about it, we'd have to document every sfx used on the site. There (in the words of the Great Understater) are many. Your page serves a valuable purpose, providing a way to talk about sfx that have multiple meanings. Except that, in a sense, Geddy's just been given a second meaning: a personified one in a addition to a functional one. I mean, that's why he's the only sfx with its own page. Perhaps if he were acknowledged and linked to in some way from your page, and then this category were deleted? --notstrongorbad 05:44, 4 Oct 2005 (UTC)
- Nope, I don't see anything wrong with adding a line to the beginning, something like 'The most consistant and reused sound is The Geddup Noise'. And you raise a good point about the 'every sound' bit... I don't fancy watching every single toon, email, game, main page, and everything else, and making SFX notes (not to mention sounds that could be in DVD-exclusive features that I wouldn't be able to access). Almost all of the ones I put on the list came from searching the Wiki for 'same sound'. So, yeah, putting a link to Geddy in my article seems a good way to go, as he's the most personified, repeated, and somewhat overlooked sound of them all. --DorianGray

- Then go for it. Me, I'm gonna move this to the Sound Effects talk page, as I like the explanation I gave behind my page. I didn't write an essay just to be lost to the ages. It'll also explain why the Geddup Noise is on the page, and gives people a place to start if they wish to contest it. --DorianGray
