In 1939, MGM released The Wizard of Oz, a cinematic adaptation of L. Frank Baum's fantasy novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. It grossed $3 million and won two Academy Awards. Numerous airings on television solidified its classic status. Some references have appeared Homestar Runner body of work.

- 8-Bit is Enough — Gel-Arshie repeats the Wicked Witch when he enters the lava pool and exclaims, "I'm melting! I'm melting!" When Strong Bad wakes up in The Field after defeating Trogdor, he tells each character individually that he or she was in his dream, like Dorothy does when she wakes up in Kansas.
