The Lord of the Rings is a popular franchise originally written by J. R. R. Tolkien. It has been referenced in the Homestar Runner body of work.

- Email stunt double (DVD commentary) — Mike Chapman imitates Richard Taylor, founder of Weta Workshop, the company which handled all of the props and costumes for the movie adapations. Taylor spoke in the commentaries for the DVD releases of the movies. Mike also references Gollum, who was portrayed with computer animation overlaid on actor Andy Serkis' performance, and was considered a groundbreaking special effect.
- Jhonka resembles Gollum.
- Peasant's Quest — Giving something to Jhonka results in him replying with, "Don't need nothing from no filthy peasantses!!", which is a reference to Gollum.
- Thy Dungeonman II — The message for killing a Longrel says that "thou smotes its ruin", which may be a reference to Gandalf, who describes his defeat of the Balrog as "I threw down my enemy, and he fell from the high place, and broke the mountain-side where he smote it in his ruin."
- strongbad email.exe Disc Two — The disk in the floppy disk container reads "WOTR level 2", referring to The Lord of the Rings: War of the Ring.
- Peasant's Quest Movie Trailer — The scenes with the shadow rolling back across the land and the map of Peasantry suggest the Lord of the Rings trailers. Similar sound effects are used.
- Sample of Style Too — The Brothers Chaps parody the "motion capture" greenscreen and ping-pong-ball setup, much like that used for Gollum in Lord of the Rings.
- Email myths and legends (DVD commentary) — The Brothers Chaps mention Gimli.
- Flashforward — Strong Bad says, "Welcome to the MMOLOTRIPOIPARPG!" The "LOTR" stands for Lord of the Rings.
- Flashforward 2006 Seattle - 28 Feb 2006 — The Brothers Chaps say that emails about Lord of the Rings were common when the movies were new.
