The STUFF'd Project Activities Control League (S'PACL - pronounced spackle) is a grassroots wiki-community movement dedicated to protecting the wiki from overcrazed fans who dump useless and illogical fun facts on and around our network, clog the Select The Usable Fun Facts pages with junk, generally try to claim that they found all the obscure referances, and risk transforming the wiki into a forum.

Core Beliefs and Goals

• Protect and defend the Fun Facts that pour onto the STUFF page from frivolity and unwanted foolishness.
• Move discusions of old proposals to the Archives, the talk pages, and the over STUFF'd page.
• Lobby those with power (listed here) to get rid of WikiTrolls and work toward a solution to the Fun Facts crisis.
• Lobby for the creation of a perminent Fun Fact Validation Committee with sysop powers.

Explanations and History

A long time ago, on a wikimedia site far away...

In the begining, fun facts were just a few little tid bits of trivia and fun listed at the bottom of many of the toons, Strong Bad Emails, and character pages. They were short, not too obvious or obscure, and were generally helpful and nice. Pages had only a few fun facts each, let alone different types.

15 November 2004

This date will forever live as the watershed mark of the chaos that nearly destroyed one of the all-time most popular pages on the site. On this day, the Strong Bad Email virus came out. The sheer popularity of the email was overwhelming and positive, but so many people tried to contribute new fun facts to the site that the page got out of hand, especialy when someone pointed out that not all of the suggestions were very good or thought out. Created five days later on [November 2004 at 22:42 (UTC)], by furrykef, the Select The Usable Fun Facts (or STUFF) page. It was to be a clearing house for all new and proposed fun facts. The goal was to civilize the process by centralizing and codifying the rules for approval.

Feeling at bit STUFF'd

After about two months passed, the STUFF page began to look a little bloated. Page regulars repeatedly tried to institute a system of voting that would clear the page of much junk. But more and more items masquarading as "fun facts" were in reality just some people trying to stretch logic too far and connect the unconnected. For months, the page grew unchecked, only periodically getting proposals ruled on and moved to the Archives. Soon the community relized that dire action was needed to bring the STUFF'd pages into line, possibly even abandoning the whole project. The push to form various bodies to clean up generally go nowhere, or get trapped in debate over minor issues. Individuals who try to take initiative run the risk of being mistaken for WikiTrolls and having their hard work un-done. This Committee was thus formed on 20 May 2005, in an effort to bring some order into a chaotic mess.

Guidebook

• The STUFF page has excellent rules on just what makes a good fun fact, how to judge, etc. Use them.
• The Archives are the main storage place for old discussions and proposals. Feel free to move things in here but be sure to leave behind a stub explaining when, where, and why the discusion was relocated.
• Each article has a talk page with many proposals (past and present). We still use these pages as a way to filter out fun facts.
• The over STUFF'd page is the trash bin of the STUFF project. Old stubs off the main STUFF page are relocated in here to keep it from being too big. From time to time it will be contracted by simple deletion.
