This could be a bit of a stretch, but I can't help but wonder if the name "Cherry Greg" is a reference to John R. Cherry III, co-creator of the character Ernest P. Worrell (yep, the one who appears in several of Neil Cecierega's animations from the 00s), who appeared in local ads (mostly in the south) for several products during the 80s and 90s. -ALXXMaXX
