IRC channels are available for general discussion regarding the Homestar Runner Wiki and the Homestar Runner Fanstuff Wiki. Assistance with IRC commands can be found at Help:IRC. freenode is right now off line.

If you have an IRC client
(see below for details):
#hrwiki
#hrwiki-fanstuff
If you don't have an IRC
client or you're not sure:
chat.hrwiki.org
(This opens both channels.)

Weekly scheduled chats

The channel is open 24 hours a day, but it can be difficult to find other people in there at random times. We hold two regularly scheduled chats each week where we discuss the latest Homestar Runner toons and whatever else catches our interest.

Mondays and Fridays, 2:00–6:00 pm Pacific / 5:00–9:00 pm Eastern

(2200–0200 UTC from last Sunday in October through first Sunday in April)
(2100–0100 UTC otherwise)

To convert the time above to your local time:
  1. Click here to open the World Time Server.
  2. Choose your time zone from the drop-down list in the middle of the page.
NOTE: The result from the link above gives the difference between 5:00 pm ET and your time zone today, not necessarily Monday. If either you or the United States is less than a week from going on/off daylight saving time, the result from the link above may give a result that is off by one or two hours, depending on several factors. It will be correct in all other cases.

IRC clients

An IRC client is a program you can use to connect to any IRC chat channel. Popular IRC clients include:

  • ChatZilla (open source) — ChatZilla is an IRC client extension for most Mozilla-based browsers (Mozilla App Suite, Mozilla Firefox, etc).
  • Colloquy (open source) — Colloquy is a popular IRC client for Mac OS X, with a great deal of features including emoticons, tabbed chatting, and custom themes.
  • Conversation (freeware) — Conversation is a great IRC client for Mac OS X. It has excellent AppleScript support and is very user-friendly.
  • Gaim (open source) — Gaim can connect to multiple chat networks (including AIM, ICQ, IRC, MSN Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger). It also works on many different operating systems (Windows, Linux, Mac, etc).
  • IceChat (commercial) — IceChat is a Windows IRC client written in Visual Basic. It provides some features other IRC clients do not, such as emoticons and an official support channel.
  • mIRC (commercial) — mIRC is one of the most popular IRC clients with a lot of great features.
  • Trillian (commercial) — Trillian connects to multiple chat networks (including AIM, ICQ, IRC, MSN Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger). It has more features than Gaim, but only works in Windows.
  • X-Chat (open source) — X-Chat is a great multiplatform IRC client, completely free for Linux, shareware for Windows but you can still download the source and compile it yourself, or get an unofficial version from here.
