The year 1987 was apparently an unusually eventful year in the Homestar Runner universe, although any particular significance to The Brothers Chaps remains in the realm of speculation. The DVD commentary for monster truck reveals that in 1987 Donnie Chapman dressed as Vince Neil of Mötley Crüe and Matt Chapman dressed as Evel Knievel for Halloween. At Flashforward 2006 Seattle, Mike mentioned that Matt won an award at a media festival for stop-motion clay animation when he was in the seventh grade in 1987.
