Mouse Problems

I recently bought a new Logitech "Laser" MX518 wired Gamers Mouse.

The problem is, every so often, the mouse's sensor shuts off for a few seconds, usually in mid-gameplay. The clicker still works, but it can't be moved for the life of me.

Any help on this? This usually happens when I'm in the middle of a fight or something in my games. It really ticks me off knowing that my mouse will crap up at any moment.

Please help.

Your mouse could be dying . Try some trouble shooting:

Cycle USB ports (plug it in somewhere else every time your mouse cops out on you)
Try another mouse and see if it does the same thing
Try your mouse on another computer
Try using your mouse on different surfaces

How could it be dying? Its brand new!

No other computer, it doesnt turn back on when I move it, no other mouse, and all other USB ports are full.

Y'know, unplug one thing, plug in the mouse and plug that one thing back into the mouse's old spot. Troubleshooting!

It's a "gamer's mouse". Linux, despite all its progress over the past decade or so, still isn't terribly much of a gamer's OS.

See if you can exchange the one you got. It might have been defective.

Mike and Dids said pretty much everything, but I have one more to add: Try fiddling around with the mouse software. I know that I had to configure my Logitech wireless to no end just to get it to work like a normal mouse.

Logitech sucks.

This is the second mouse this has happened with that i bought from them.

Yeah, I have a beef with Logitech as well. A Logitech gamepad I bought was fine at first, but eventually it had all sorts of problems until finally a button caved in in a way that couldn't be repaired and the thing was officially unusable.

So I made a point of not buying a Logitech for my next controller, and the new controller's D-pad snapped off after about a year anyway. *sigh*

You know what I hate? No one makes a decent wireless Trackball anymore. I'd prefer a wireless trackball, because you don't need a mousing surface for it. But hardly anyone makes them, and Logitech is the only name brand I know that does. And I don't like either of the ones they make.

Trackballs suck, its like trying to control a hose with one of those spinner controllers you find on those "Bowling" arcade games.

I've got a Microsoft Laser Mouse and this thing has lasted me for 5 years. It's a good gamer mouse. It can stand the abuse of a gamer's fingers. It doesn't cut out either.

I have a cheap five-dollar wired Logitech optical mouse. I've probably had it for a really long time now and I've never had a problem with it.

I only use logitech because it feels comfortable. Its like its been modeled for my hand.

Maybe you should seriously consider a different brand of mouse.

Speaking of, can anyone give me links to any companies that make decent wireless trackballs? Logitech has two, but I don't like either one, and none of the others I've looked at look like they would suffice.
