Then if we decide to kill them, why not have the Baliff shoot them in the head the moment that the court finds them guilty and has sentenced them to death? Why draw it out? Why go so far as to not even let the inmates on death row commit suicide and get it over with quickly? Why must the process be so torturous and vengeful from the side that's supposed to represent justice?
Not to mention a huge waste of taxpayer money by keeping these guys alive until the day they walk the Green Mile. Besides, other forms of CP are immediate: the guillotine, burning at the stake, beheading, etc. Why not install electric chairs in the courthouse?

I actually support Capital Punishment, being a Republican. If there is a serial killer on the loose, they deserve to die for their terrible acts. Also, it costs too much money to keep the guys in jail for life. Think of all the money wasted just to keep some ignorant murderous people alive. That's all I have to say on the matter.

I am both for and against the death penalty. I am morally against it, but it would cost way too much to keep all of those people for life. I mean, I can't live with it, can't live without it.

I'm against it, I don't live in America, but I think that responding by death isn't a good idea, it's easy violence..

The problem with "it costs too much to keep them alive" is that you're ignoring how much it costs to kill someone. There are TONS of appeals, and those lawyers don't work cheap (chances are, taxpayers are fitting the bill for both prosecution AND defense). Then there's the actual cost of doing it.. Thankfully, I've heard they are phasing out the gas chamber (that was a REAL WASTE OF MONEY).

I am a fence sitter on this issue. I used to be strongly in favor of it, but I'm not as sure anymore. I guess it depends on the nature of the crime to me.

Like parking violations?

Yeah, I think that one major problem that people get stuck over on this issue of what exactly went into the crime. It's so hard to have a black and white answer, but that's often what people demand.

In Canada you can only get the Death Penalty for treason but noone has been convicted of it in 106 years.

No killing someone doesn't cause people to see crime as wrong if u address the root of crime you get less people who are into guns or whateva. You see places with high crime rates often have corrupt cops or harsh sentences. It creates an idea that the police estabellishment is crooked.

Tit for tat punishment is wrong. It's as simple as that. I think that life in jail is far worse, because with capital punishment, they're just letting you off the hook early.

But while they're waiting to die, those in prison for life can still have a chance at salvation. And even those who are waiting in line on the Green Mile can be saved; the actual punishment is not immediate.

Don't give me religious crap. I know that it can years for them to be executed, and they do not offer up the death penalty so that people will repent on death row. They offer it because the families of victims want quick, brutal punishments.

Hey, this section is called Religion & Politics.

But back to what you said, people still have to wait for execution. If some people wanted, they could put electric chairs, injection needles (and in some states) the gallows right in front of the courthouse. But since there are so many people on Death Row, it can't really be done immediately. Not to mention that the word "brutal" can be taken to mean "cruel and unusual".

I agree and I don't think recognizing a mistake you have made while in prison means you turned to religion-in some cases people do in some cases they don'r.

Well, you have to do something while you're sitting in prison for the rest of your life.

Not even who heals is religious or became it. But i believe in rehabilitation so that they can emerge as productive members of society.

I don't believe in rehabilitation. If someone's willing to kill innocent people for no reason at all, I seriously doubt they're going to EVER be productive members of society at all. Of course, there ARE counter-examples, but I believe that a majority of "death row" people are beyond rehabilitation.

I'm not saying we shouldn't try, though...

It's called "Life in prison" for a reason; you can never get out and become a productive member of society. That's why some countries don't even have the death penalty; in most of Europe, it's abolished for all offenses.

People make mistakes not everyone kills to kill look at the whole issue not just that they killed a lot of things happen that affect such actions.

How come conservatives say that they are pro-life, and the "The party of the church" when they support the death penalty which the church states is wrong?

This was said a while ago but i agree completely.

The circumstances of why they did what they did ARE taken into account. That's why they have sentencing hearings. Very few people on death row are there for shooting someone in who was holding a knife to their child's throat.

Problem is, "life in prison" rarely means "life in prison."

As prisons get more and more crowded, people are getting paroled after 20, 30 years, whatever. Sometimes even sooner, as some states will parole inmates after 10 years.

But murdering someone is a big "mistake". You can't just let someone off for that.

And there is a chance for forgiveness; it's called Jesus.

Well, I believe that He is.

How can you let someone off for murder? "Oh, you shot my entire family, but it's OK."

I might as well post in this thread since it's back up...
I don't agree with the death penalty. If there was a way to suck the person's life out and give it to the victim, it would make sense, but if you burn someone's house down, you don't repay it by burning your own down. It doesn't get anywhere.
