I would go further to add that mistreating those prisoners does not help to diffuse the situation any. Our objective in any armed conflict should be to eventually secure peace. As long as our enemies harbor images of us abusing POW's, that's not likely to ever happen. Regardless of what they may or may not deserve (incidentally, I don't think anyone deserves that kind of treatment at all), we still have a moral obligation to avoid the appearance of evil. Not only does it violate the Geneva Convention, it also violates the UCMJ.

How about friendly old Alberto Gonzales, token cabinet Hispanic?

I am offended by this statement. You actually dare to make the accusation that he was selected only to meet some arbitrary diversity requirement, when clearly he was chosen according to his qualifications (you even listed them, if you remember).

Alberto Gonzales' appointment is due at least in part to the GOP's desire to woo hispanics to the party. There's really no other way to put it.

Concerning the Geneva Convention, StrongRad, no it does not go both ways. There is no "justifiable revenge" clause in the Geneva Convention, and the fact that our enemies don't follow the Convention does not give us license to ignore it when interrogating people who we suspect are among them.

The apology meme has taken over!

Er.

Some of you may have noticed my signature a couple days ago had a link to Sorry Everybody, a collective apology to the world from non-Bush-supporters. Check it out, there's more than 1,000 photo apologies there now.

A couple days later, We're Not Sorry popped up. Nearly 200 photos there. About 10% of which have guns in them. Okay, that's cool.

And then yesterday, Apologies Accepted went online. The world responds to Sorry Everybody. Only about 50 photos so far.

Sites I'm waiting to see: "We Don't Really Care", "I'll Tell You Where to Stick Your Apology", and "Wait.. There Was an Election?"

I love the internet.

Looks like you anti-Bush people were right all along.

This whole Israel-Lebanon thing would have never happened if Kerry had been elected.

Crap.

I don't know about that...I mean, hindsight is 20/20, ya know? It's easy to say now that "If I was in charge, things would have never gotten this bad!"...that doesn't necessarily mean it would be true. Speculation like that is rather pointless once the deeds have been done--it doesn't really make Kerry look like a man willing to take action NOW if all he can concentrate is what could have been THEN.

Guh, the Democrats are really taking cheap shots now. Face it, this conflict was inevitable, and nothing could have been done about it.

Holy cow, talk about reviving a dead thread...!

I still think we didn't put nearly enough effort into making sure nothing fishy was going on during the election. I know, nobody wanted a repeat of 2000, but I'd take a repeat of 2000 over injustice, yeah?

Oh, come on. Are we going to start crying, "Rigged Election!" again?

Not saying it was, it's just that they should have looked more into it. But anyway, until it was posted in today, this thread had been dead for, what, a year and a half? Why bring it back?

I didn't want to start a whole new thread for my post.

But next time I can, if you want.

You could have just posted in that other thread where Bush is being discussed.

It tends to be preferable to reviving a very old one. I think a good rule of thumb as to whether or not to post in an old thread is whether or not people are likely to remember the thread.

Remember: Necromancy, in both the real world and the forum world, is generally considered a crime against nature and punishable by death.

Wow...so CPR and defibrillators are illegal?

Well, in those cases it could be argued that the person in question isn't really dead.

But aren't there plenty of cases where people have been clinically dead and then brought back to life?

Yes, but as I was trying to say, it can be argued that "clinically dead" isn't really "dead".

Well, this thread is indeed dead. It died a while ago.
