I dunno about you guys, but I was laughing through the entire thing. I never watched much GI Joe, but this reminded me of all those Captain Planet and Rescue Heroes "don't do drugs/stay in school" afterschool comercials. It was hilarious. 9/10.

I'd never actually seen the cheet comandos before...it, like the TGS, was something i'd just assumed was stupid and not very funny, and never took the time. I have now been properly introduced to TGS, and after this one came out I went back and watched all the CC episodes. I can't believe how funny they are! so sarcastic, "Buy all our playsets and toys."

This is what TBC really excel at. H*R itself began as a sarcastic version of a kid's book. Some of their toons go nowhere, and it's hard to see why they even made them, but these are gems. I only with I had been around in the '80s so i could have seen the GI Joe show that the wiki keeps talking about, in order to fully appreciate the humor. And their portrayal of crappy educational films was dead-on. I especially enjoyed the body diagrams, and how they made up rediculously huge words for stuff that didn't even make sense.

I definately wouldn't mind seeing another strong bad email, but I kinda like the shift in focus. I hope they make lots more CC. This toon has inspired me to go back and see what other toons i may be missing out on.

ANd as for the edgy thing: it's been said before, but I'll say it again.
Allie and Allie's sister. the cheat's new year's resolution. The bird. THe cold ones references. IT's always been this way; TBC are at their best when they're just a bit edgy. Remember the origional children's book? how many kids books do you know that have plots involving several characters getting squashed by giant piles of grapes?

Awesome.

Not my favorite Cheat Commandos toon, but it still ROCKS. The pizza thing was awesome. "You're deep dish!"

The "good half" and "evil half" of the brain made me crack up, and I think my favorite line in the whole toon was, "Bringing Your Old Man a Cold One."

Great parody of educational filmstrips, BTW.

I was sleepy yesterday. I watched it again today. I got an even better impression out of it.
Now I have to say that this is hilarious. The "You've got extra cheese! Mmm... Pepperoni..." is even funnier now.

Is Reinforcements going to be just a guy that takes his time to come, but has ultra-1337 skills?

We just had to watch a video about peer pressure and cigarettes and whathaveyou in Health today. I cracked up, and veryone gave me weird looks. I was thinking of this. When someone who was clearly in a mind fog asked me what this was all about, I said "inappropriate peer-2-teen choice behaviors". They seemed to take me seriously.

That was an awesome CC 'toon. Got to say, it seems TBC are getting just a slight bit towards edgy. Not quite edgy, but close. Not that that's a bad thing, it can add to the humour, I merely hope it doesn't prove to be a consistent thing, as one of HSR's selling points (not merely in terms of merchandising) is its being targeted at all ages.

On favourite parts... the bear at the beginning of tip three was utter hilarity. Just such silliness out of the one part you'd have figured to stay normal, quite a surprise, which made the humour value all the more great.

And I can imagine number two being used in an actual classroom situation, which also evoked quite some amusement.

That was a great toon. Some of the things, though, I'll say, were for a slightly older audience.

But that doesn't get in the way of the Homestar humor we've all come to know and love. It's not getting risque.

I think in an attempt to make Reynolds say something downright silly (a guy? Pregnant?), TBC might have inadvertantly caused some of their fans to do a double-take simply because thinking of "teen pregnant" dredged up a lot of not-too-pleasant things.

Generally, the closer you are to having a teen daughter of your own, the less pleasant the "things".

The edginess with the "teen pregnant" comment is a departure from the usual H*R humor in one major aspect: rather than masking a real-world social issue with a neutral or humorous pseudonym (smoking candy?), it's a direct reference to a social issue with no upside, no matter how you look at it.

Smoking? That's a stoppable, avoidable bad habit with negative health effects.

Drinking? Ditto. (DWI notwithstanding...)

Gawking at hot chicks a-la Strong Bad? Not particularly impactful from a social ills viewpoint.

Diaper biscuits? I'm a parent: I know what diaper biscuits are! That's funny!

But teen pregnancy? We've just crossed the line into a quagmire of ideas such as too-early/unready motherhood/marriage, violence against children, abortion, Internet predators--or a host of other things you might think of when you think of that phrase.

Again: the more "teen" your daughter, the less funny the comment, and more edgy it seems.

I tend to think of the H*R "crew" as 20-something 7th graders. When I was in 7th grade (showing my age...), drinking and smoking were the "bad things" the "bad kids" did. Fart jokes, burping, barf jokes were all par for the course if you wanted to raise a ruckus (or stink). And all the guys rushed home after school to watch the latest G.I. Joe toy commercial--I mean, adventure!

"Getting teen pregnant" was beyond any of that; and it wasn't funny when I was in 7th grade.

The amazing irony of all this? I have been contemplating an email to TBC specifically thanking them for keeping H*R clever-funny, without getting into political, ethical, or otherwise socially unpleasant issues.

Maybe I should have sent it. Maybe I will wait a while.

So... a throwaway joke made you cringe because YOU connected it to really serious issues. I guess I can see why that would bother you, but how exactly is this THEIR fault? "They said 'teen pregnant,' and my daughter is a teen... what if she got pregnant? I blame the Chapmans for making me think about this." I'm sorry, but I just don't see it. They didn't go into any details about what he would do if he magically got "teen pregnant." They didn't cross the line. They didn't even walk up to the line. They just looked at it from afar.



Again, it's a personal experience issue. If one of my guy friends told me he was going to get teen pregnant in 7th grade, I would have laughed. That doesn't make me a bad person, does it? In fact, I can bet that if I ever have a teenage daughter, I won't find this line offensive, or even unpleasant. It's stupid for the sake of stupid. It's not a sign of moral decay.

We all know the line wasn't meant to offend, so why do people keep going on about it?

Anyway, glad that there's a new Cheat Commandos toon after almost a year! But I liked Shopping for Danger better. But I liked Crackotage losing his couplet power, Pony Fights 2, Reynold's swearing, what the evil half of the brain has, the outcome of Fightgar imagining the Blue Laser minions as pizza (now he would probably prefer the former choice), Firebert's encounter with Blue Laser, Reinforcements, and Crackotage's deterioration of his rhyming in the Easter egg.

Well, now I know that Blue Laser minions don't always have to end their sentences in "sir" or "ma'am". But I also know that Reinforcements does not speak in Coach Z's voice.

No I changed my mind, it fits perfectly. THe fact that he didn't say "get a teen pregnant", but "get teen pregnant" abstracts the statement. We know "get teen pregnent" doesn't make any sense; so it just becomes a random term for a generic bad choicy thing. It is just a thing that educational films tell you not to do; it isn't supposed to be about political or social issues, or early motherhood, abortion, or internet stalkers.

I don't feel like quoting but, the whole "getting teen pregnant" line isn't as horrible as Mr. Parenthood said over there. It's obvious that reynold somehow changed to a teenager for the sake of the school video satire. They weren't PROMOTING on getting someone pregnant, they were against it in a humerous fashion. If calling this "crossing the line", then why don't yous yell at the eighth grade teachers for showing sex-ed and choice videos? HomestarRunner.com doesn't shout out and say, "Hey teens, do drugs and get people pregnant!" This isn't even as edgy as Green Day performing Queen--- heck, it's not even tasteless, it's tasteful.

Well, it wasn't intended as a joke in itself, I'd think. It, for one thing, was intended to show further naivety (not a word, but I don't care at the moment) on Reynold's part, as well as providing some way to segue into the educational portion.

Think of the whole cartoon, start to finish, as the educational video-normal ones don't start off with the first tip, they often start off with some scenario in which someone is behaving less ideally than normal, and another person corrects them, bringing the video to the educational part.

In such an educational video, such issues are mentioned without being considered over the lines. The only reason it's an issue here is because it's not an educational video, and is only intended to be humourous, causing us to forget that they're using an element found in real videos. We are unintentionally made to believe that because the whole thing is parody, and thus humourous, every single variable, if you will (the main theme being don't do bad things and the variables the particular what-not-to-dos and the scenarios preceeding them), is in there as humour.

So, not only is the line itself not intended to be humourous, but something of said sort is necessary to complete the parody.

Edit: Oops, Norman essentially said most of the same things, without the extra length. Err. Well, reading both is no harm, eh?

Guys, it's a cartoon. Stop reading so far into it. When you do that, it isn't funny anymore and ruins it for you.

Also, you'll get a headache.
