Since New Years Day comes on a Monday next year, what do you think TBC might do? I'm thinking that they may have the characetrs be watching the ball drop, and then all turn into their 20X6 variations, since next year is 2006. That'd be a pretty cool toon. What do you guys think?

That would be cool, but TBC would probably think of something better.

I orignally thought that the X was a variable. Then I realized that that made no sense since It was ten years all spread out. Since Metroid takes place in 20X5 it can't be just a parody. I'm pretty sure that sometime in the furture we'll switch to base 11. X would then be the equivalent of today's 10. I tihnk they'll do some kinda special though. Maybe with Honestar's and Strong Bad's parties competing.

Well, first off, it's a little early to be thinking of this, but at least you're planning ahead. Second, TBC have never done anything for New Year, so why would they in 2006?

I think some-a you are examining "20X6" a little too thoroughly. Metroid is 20X5, so it's just playing off of that. Besides, if we were going into base 11 don't you think A would be 10 as opposed to X?

That's the obvious way to do it.... too obvious if you ask me. But I'm gonna refer to next year as 'X6.

funkycru, how about not spamming? Del Taco'd.

I had an argument with my friend on the meaning of X. I came to a conclusion. In some cases such as Earthbound where it takes place in the year 199X, it just means it takes place in the 90s. In cases such as Stinkoman where it is in 20X6, it means its really far in the future. However, regardless of what you believe. I highly doubt TBC'll turn all the main characters into their 20X6 versions.

btw, X would be ten since its refering to the roman numeral

I figured "X" refered to a variable rather than a roman numeral because they pronounce it "X-ty"

Which means it could be any year between 2006 and 2096.
twenty nine-TY six, for example.

No, no, no, no. Even IF the X is a variable it would mean that 20X6 would be either 2006, 2016, 2926, 2036, and so on. This makes no sense and since Metroid uses 20X5, it can't be a variable.

I don't think its fallen on a monday before. TBC never did 4th of July before, and someone started a thread predicting that and look what happened, it happened.

Too bad it's actually not on a Monday, though. Darn calenders with their precious abreviatios! Well I'm sick of it! i vote we ambush the calenders and make our own system for time!

Or not, that'd work, too.

Why not? Maybe Metroid was using a variable?

That would make no sense. It would be ten different years all separated from each other. The intent was to make metroid far in the future. The same goes for stinkoman. Metroid is not this year!!!!!!

X is the standard scienific (and mathematic) symbol for an unknown value. As it is in a year (AD) it represents an integer X >= 0, ie. the year 2006, 2016, 2026... 2096, 20106... However it is safe to assume it won't be Twenty naughty six, Twenty sixteen isn't cool and Twenty "tenty" six is wierd so I assume X falls in the range 2<=X<=9. Also of note, Stinkoman appears in "3 Times Halloween Funjob" (2003 toon) presumably he's just a kid then, also note the toon "20X6 vs 1936" requires 1936 Homestar to [still be alive in] the year 20X6.

What does this proove? Nothing what-so-ever. This is a universe free of most logic. However as both Stinkoman and Strong Bad were in "3 Times Halloween Funjob" I doubt one will become the other.

As a final though, Hexadecimal (base 16) numbers use digits 0-9,A-F. So the minimum to include X as a character is base 34, if we assume 20X6 is base 34 thats a looong way away.

Edit: I found a converter, 20X6 (Base 34) is 78614 (Decimal)
Edit#2: Thanks Bonkava, I'm glad someone's awake.

No, Metroid is a non-specific year in the future. Whenever a game uses X in a year (like Megaman has 200X) it usually just means "sometime in the 21st century".

I think somewhere TBC are laughing like crazy that people are devoting so much thought to what "twenty exty six" means.

Actually I'm seeing this all over the forums. Long-winded debates about the social interactions of characters, what EXACTLY is meant by 20X6 (because of course just goofing off Metroid's 20X5 is unacceptable) or discussions about how Homestar lifts things.

It's a flash cartoon. 20X6 is a generic video game way of saying "some point in the future", Homestar lifts things without arms because it looks funny, it doesn't matter if Strong Bad could feasibly do all of the voices in Teen Girl Squad, and overanalyzing it just makes it less funny.

Yeesh.

Not true. 20X5 would mean it could be any one of those ten seperate years, not all of the at once. It just depends what X is equal to.

For example, in the number 2x, which means 2 times x, we can't know what number 2x is because we don't know what x is equal to. 2x could be any number divisible by 2, but that doesn't mean it's all numbers divisible by 2.

In 20X5 and 20X6, X must have a numeric value. We just don't know what it is.

You just said 2 is greater than 9. What? 2>=x means that 2 is greater than or equal to x, so it would have to be next year, 2016, or 2026, and I'm sure that's not what you meant. But then you said that x ALSO had to be >=9, which is impossible because there is no digit lower than 3 but greater than 8. So I suggest you edit your post and put in <'s instead of >'s. Yes. We're acting like the Trekkies who don't realize it's just a show. I'll keep myself out of this one.

I wouldn't say the X is a variable. The year is one of the following: 2006, 2016, 2026, 2036, 2046, 2056, 2066, 2076, 2086, or 2096. They just use an X because either they don't know what year it is, or they don't want you to know.
