What exactly is wrong with "Happy Hallow-day"? I do agree that it's probably not the best Halloween toon out there, but it's not that horrible, is it? What exactly is wrong with it?

I don't think it was that bad, myself. It's probably my least favourite, though. Part of it may be that, as novel an idea as it was, having a Halloween cartoon take place during the day really does deprive us of a lot of the stuff we look forward to in a Halloween toon: a properly spooky forest, pranks by Strong Bad, probably a lot of other things I'm forgetting. There are things I really liked, though, such as the music and Marzipan's costume. In my opinion, not a bad cartoon in absolute terms, just not as good as what they usually do for Halloween.

In addition to the stuff Heimstern Läufer said, here's what I didn't like about it:
Pom Pom and Bubs having almost nothing to do
The Spooky Woods becoming happy
Strong Sad cracking a smile ("Something funny's happening to the sides of my mouth") was creepy
"Happy Halloween" appearing onscreen felt too old-fashioned
"That's the best Evil Carmen Sandiego costume I've ever seen" Carmen Sandiego's already evil!
"The Cheat, technically shouldn't all this sunlight be turning you into some sort of horrible beastie?" No, apparently it's supposed to kill him. I said "apparently" because I only saw part of Gremlins.

If there's one thing wrong with the toon that I'd point out, it's the reduced number of Easter eggs at the end. Only 4? Too low. I do like how the additional Easter eggs for the toon I read on the Fanstuff Wiki would go, though. That woulda make a total of 7. Speaking of Fanstuff, when do you think that Wiki will get back to normal?

That is one thing I have to agree with, the fact there's only four eggs. I think they should've added three more: one for Bubs, one for Coach Z and one for the King of Town.

The reason why Happy Hallow-day (as I see it, anyway) is viewed in a slightly lesser light is because the Halloween toon before it, Halloween Potion-ma-jig, was so freaking good. It set some sort of standard, and everyone was hoping that, if not top it, the next one would at least be equally earthshaking. It was not, people were disappointed, and that may have led to negative feelings towards it.

Well, I think that part is our fault. We should not be very expectant of certain things. After Potion-ma-jig, I figured nothing could ever be as good as this one again. I doubt any future H'ween toons could truly outdo that one, even Jibblies 2.

Especially considering nothing, not even Potion-ma-jig, is as good as 3 Times Halloween Funjob.

I only discovered this site in 2007, so there wasn't a year's worth of anticipation to make me dissapointed, but I still didn't find this toon up to TBC's usual standard of excellence.

The thing that really diassapointed me about this one was the ending. Everyone shouts "Happy Halloween" to bring Halloween Night back to life? I don't know; something in the sophisticated region of my brain shouted "Rejected Dora the Explorer Halloween Special material!" Couldn't TBC think of something a bit more creative? The King of Town puking it up or Coach Z doing something especially creepy with it, perhaps? The end of the short should be the punchline of the joke!

The funniest moment, TO ME, in all of Homestar history was the ridiculous moment where Homestar says "LET. ME. In! da da da!" while he is banging his head into Marzipan's door. That is just so bizarre and funny! Then he says it again while marching in place!

I almost died laughing at that. Which is why that is my fave ween toon. Potion-Ma-Jig is right behind it.

Hallow Day is not that great of a toon to begin with, but what really killed it was it didn't FEEL very Halloween-ish. Mainly because of it taking place in the day and the spooky woods not being so spooky... and the end was "day of the dead." I realize that was the punchline, but I dunno... I just would rather it FEEL like Halloween and that one did not to me.

I don't really get all the complaints about it. "Oh, it just didn't feel like Halloween." Well, yeah, sure, but it was still funny, right? Well, I thought it was. I thought some of the jokes were very clever.
"Homestar Runner, you are a genius!"
"Thank you Doug"

"It's like I'm right there, wheeeling Grandma through the Old Town...."

And at least you have the characters in costume like always, as well as a few Halloween themes here and there. And, oh yeah, the Goblin appears, too.
