Yeah, so a few months ago on this computer (my nice one) I accidentally got rid of the GTK runtime environment. The GIMP still worked, except it looked weird, I couldn't copy paste, had to open a file instead, and it keeps on telling me that "PNG is not supported". So I decide I'll install the runtime environment to fix that. But then it tells me that I still have the runtime environment, and it tries to uninstall it. But it can't because it says it already exists. So I go to the program list, and low and behold, it still does. So I goes to uninstall it, but I tell you what, it says it can't uninstall because
"File 'C:\Program Files\Common Files\GTK\2.0\setup\unins000.dat" does not exist. Cannot unistall."

HALP!

I got both Gimp.app and Gimpshop for Mac OS X, but neither work. Yes, I reinstalled X11. Help?

Honestly, I don't know what to tell you. Look on the GIMP site. I think I had to look around there to figure out how to install it on my computer when I was at school (weird linux thing)

Meh, I just decided to use Seashore instead. It works well enough for my purposes.
Oh, and I use a Mac because I'm at my Grandma's house. She doesn't have a half-decent PC.

I can relate. I did the same thing. But I finally found an answer. Here is my Story:
I was attempting to update my old version (gimp 2.2.11) and install a newer version (gimp 2.2.17) of GIMP, and, at the same time, install the new version (gtk+ 2.10.13) of GTK. I looked in my control panel add/remove window and saw that I had two previous versions of GTK (gtk+ 2.10.6 and gtk+ 2.10.11). (At this time I didn’t remember that the GTK program actually uninstalls the previous version of GTK as part of the installation process.) Not wanting to have yet another version of GTK on my computer, and to attempt to clean up the old versions, I used the “add-delete programs” window to delete the gtk+ 2.10.11version of GTK. However, when I tried to install the new version of GTK, I an error message: I think this was the first error message: [“C:\Program Files\Common Files\GTK\2.0\setup\unins000.dat” does not exist. Cannot uninstall.]. While trying to uninstall GTK I also got this error message “There was a problem uninstalling previous version of GTK+ 2 Runtime Environment. Please uninstall it manually, and run Setup again.” (I forget which of these messages came first). So I searched the Internet trying to find who else has had this problem. Found a couple places, but nothing helpful. One or two messages said to “uninstall manually” (what does that mean?)
I finally decided to have another look at the error messages and went to the filepath specified on the error message, which was: “C:\Program Files\Common Files\GTK\2.0\setup\unins000.dat”. I went to C:\Program Files\Common Files\GTK\2.0. In this folder I found a file named unins000.exe. Since this file was an executable, I clicked on this file and it uninstalled GTK with no problems. However, I had left the C:\Program Files\Common Files\GTK folder there. When I tried to install the new version of GTK, it still gave me the error message. So I went back to C:\Program Files\Common Files\GTK and renamed the GTK folder to GTK-old (I could have deleted the folder, or renamed it to anything.) Then when I went back to install the new version of GTK (gtk+ 2.10.13), it installed successfully. Following this I was able to install the new version of GIMP (Gimp 2.2.17) successfully. Gimp is up and running again now.

I am posting this here so that it can help anyone else who has had this problem,
