For all the talk about how people who want the war to end are dishonoring our soldiers, it's pretty clear that the military can dishonor the soldiers without any extra help, thank you very much.
Soldiers that received a signing bonus are being asked to pay their bonuses back if they are injured in the tour of duty to the point where they cannot complete their commitment. So if you got a $10,000 bonus because you volunteered to fight for your country, and an IED blows your leg off 6 months into your 1 year commitment, the government will bill you $5,000 for being a quitter.

This absolutely disgusts me. I doubt there will be much debate on this subject, but I wanted to let people know about what's going on. I keep trying to come up with an explanation because this is truly unbelievable. You'd think that military leadership would be the people MOST sensitive to this kind of abuse.
I mean, you've probably already spent your bonus by the time the bill arrives, and if you are injured to the point where you can't serve the military, there is a good chance you are too injured to really have a good job yet. You've only recently been injured, and are still just trying to get accustomed to living with 2 fingers or 1 eye or 1 leg or deafness. What are the chances that you are working and making enough money to pay back your signing bonus? Very small. And if your dad can't pay it off (good chance based on the average family income of a kid who joins the military anymore) you are really out of luck.
