Hey, if you're going to talk about Columbine, at least spell it correctly.

Here we go again: video games being blamed for real-life violence. *sigh* If video games are as bad an influence as the media says they are, then, hypothetically speaking, wouldn't every video gamer shoot up his/her school?

Spelling Nazi.

There'd be no need for Spelling Nazis and Grammar Nazis if people would learn to spell and learn the difference between your and you're.

Still, I an a little bothered that the guy that made the Columbine is being viewed as being as guilty as the shooter. Granted, the idea of that Columbine game sickens me, but I hate that people could blame it for some jerk with a gun. I don't care if he was made fun of, picked on, etc. It doesn't give him the right to randomly shoot people.

Frankly, I find the whole Columbine game extremely disrespectful, and even if he's not as guilty as the actual murderer, I'd still like to see his distasteful project shut down. I mean, what the crap, people? Next thing you know, they'll be making video games where you're a Klansman killing black people.

It truely sickens me when I hear about shootings and the like. But making a game out of it, whether for your profit or not, is nearly as bad. I'm not saying that we should ban all video games, but sometimes there needs to be a line on what's distasteful and disrespectiful.

I know everything why Columbine happened, COLA. I live in Colorado. The Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News covered EVERYTHING.

Besides, I've been bullied a lot, but apparently since I don't play video games, I won't shoot up Overland High School. We've had enough news coverage with the Jay Bennish scandal, thank you.

Choco, I am sickened that you would actually try to defend this horrible excuse for human entertainment.

Is there a sensible person who would care to attempt to defend this indecent piece of trash?

Yes the game is very disrespectful, until you have ACTUALLY PLAYED IT.

Hmm, everything? Like that they WEREN'T in the trench coat mafia? Like they they WEREN'T goths? Like that they WEREN'T bullied (or well, it wasn't the primary reason)?

This is not entertainment. If anyone tells you they had more fun playing this game than a watching a good movie for the first time, they are insane. Indecent? Play the game, then tell me that it is indecent.

It's either disrespectful or it's not.

Pogogunner wrote:

I've heard this too, that the trench coat mafia was a different group they weren't affiliated with and the fact that they wore trench coats had nothing to do with any clique or gang. But knowing why they did it (or wanting to know why they did it) wouldn't change whether or not the game is offensive, because their reasons for doing it aren't what people find the most offensive about the whole thing.

Pogogunner wrote:

The indecency he's talking about is the very act of playing a game in which you murder innocent people, even if it's not supposed to be entertainment. Just because you're not really killing anyone doesn't mean a game in which you kill innocent people is OK, especially REAL innocent people who actually died. Most people would say it's not a good idea to go that deep into a disturbed mind. We don't need to be making the same decisions they made to understand them and their motives.

I was in high school when the Columbine shootings happened (and all those other ones) and I have to say, none of that surprised me. I had that burning rage at the whole school thing and the fake social structure and the pointlessness, but it was directed at the system, the real cause, not the people in it who had little control over it. Kids need to get upset (though not violent) with their elders, who are completely dropping the ball with how we do school, not with their peers, even though that's where the systemic problems are manifesting themselves. Still, knowing that people are prone to irrationality as part of human nature, I'm still surprised shootings like the one in Montreal don't happen more often. It's a really good thing they don't.

You nailed it on the head, Tiger.

I have no problem with games like Jedi Knight, Elder Scrolls, and even Doom, when what you're doing is fighting against deadly enemies that are trying to kill you. (In fact, I love yanking Bucket-Heads guns with the Force and watching them run around like idiots).

But a game in which you basically run around and murder innocent people just strikes me as atrocious.

The author of the game claims he did it mainly to help people understand the psychology of those who committed this act of barbarism, but I fail to see where that justifies them. They are terrorists. Period.

And I've read that game's forum, too.

Quote:
Who else thinks the columbine shootings were actually justified. These two poor kids were tortured for years upon years. picked on by preppies and jocks, rediculed, rejected. They were in hell on earth. They did what they could to fight back agaisnt an oppressive social structure. I applaud the two for putting the preppies in their place. I do NOT believe that violence is inherently wrong.

Columbine. It was Justified.

THIS is the kind of opinion sponsored on that forum? NO THANK YOU!

Then please tell me what people find most offensive. Maybe im not reading your paragraph right...

Then how are you going to understand them and their motives and make a ton of jabs at the media at the same time? And you cannot find a real person who died or was wounded in the shooting in the game. Only two characters other then Eric and Dylan were named, and they both are allowed to escape because they were friends.

People who follow the system are just as guilty as those who created it. Without violence, nothing will ever change, unless the other side crumbles upon itself. The violence of a massacre isn't changing it correctly though. The schools just instated a "zero-tolerance" policy to everything. Same with drugs, bring cough drops to school and you will get expelled. Its crap. (Uh...did a moderator come by or do you guys have a chat filter?)

First and foremost, most do not sponsor what that drive-by troll said. And about shooting those who cannot defend themselves in a game? I dont believe you would have any qualms if it wasn't based on an actual incident. I think you dont have a beef with the game per se, but with Eric and Dylan for killing those innocent kids.

Actually, that "drive-by troll" started a whole thread by that statement, and seems to have had much support for what he said by other posters.

Then you don't know me very well. I don't believe video games should ever portray innocent murder, whether based on an actual event or not. I don't play or support any game that encourages the player to randomly kill non-combatants. So basically, your statement here is invalid and unsupported. Perhaps you should refrain from assumptions about people's attitudes and beliefs before you make such faulty statements.

Oh, and yes, we do have a filter. But we mods do not tolerate such language, even with the filter. So watch yourself.

Uh...its very easy to start a thread on there with any statement. As long as it is notable. Someone saying that the Columbine massacre was justified is sure to bring a lot of attention. And that "support" seems to have come from guests and one user (orion)

Why shouldn't they portray innocent murder? Are you one of those people who honestly believes that videogames contributes to violence?

And you're a mod? Shouldn't it be like:

I would take it in stride. I hope some popular blog decides to write about me and call me the next school shooter. Why? I like attention, I crave it...oh well. Maybe I just need help. That doctor didn't help :(

First of all, don't double-post. Second of all, Didy is a mod, but his custom title is "Coolier than Thou".

Third, toastpaint.

I read that blog post, COLA. Revenge fantasies are not '"teen angst".

I suprisingly find this thing unlike Grand Theft Auto. I mean, the problem with GTF is that people thought it made people kill people because that kid said life is like a video game when he got arrested. The problem with this is that people made a profit by saying in a video game that people that are of a different race and religon should be killed, and that it shows people the KKK belivers are still out there.
