Woo. That was frickin' awexome. I had been told they made a song out of "So Long and Thanks for All the Fish", but I never expected that.

"So long, so long, so long, so long so long..."

I'M GOING TO SEE IT TONIGHT! YAAAAAAH!

I saw (I've read the books) it and I have only 2 problems.

1. Zaphod's Second head and third arm was very distubing.
2. THe Vogons hurt my eyes to look at (really) and talked WAAAAY to slow.

For People who haven't read it: If you don't like "silly" British humo(u)r don't see it; or read the book. Smilin' Bubs seems nessisaree right now.

You're absolutely right. Great movie, but it was a disappointment after if you read even just the first book. And Marvin's quip at the end about the end of the universe being the other way makes absolutely no sense, if you know where "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe" actually is.

That was a Marvin? Whoa. And what's BBC?

I'm more than likely going to see this. I do though have a couple questions, would this be understandable if I never read the books? And would this a good movie to take a girl to see?

Um only if the girl is as nerdy as you and go somewhere else later. And if you haven't read the books, you will have to really pay attention, so there will be no yawing and arm going over the head unless you can multitask.

'Tis an excellent movie, though it's probably better if you haven't read the books. Although if that's true, as Dactyl said, you need to pay VERY close attention.

I saw the movie after having read about half of the book- so I understood a few things, like signifigance of the towel and all, but other parts came as a surprise to me, especially the beginning and changed end, which I assume are taken straight out of book 4?

All in all, the casting was good, and I have one thing to say about people who are yelling and going on about how the plot changes ruined the story... DOUGLAS ADAMS WROTE THE SCRIPT HIMSELF, wITH ONLY VERY SLIGHT MODIFICATIONS, AND EVEN THEN IT WAS ONLY TO "UPDATE" IT TO TOADY'S SOCIE...cough, hack... Sorry, yelling like that hurts my throat.

Actually, Swoosh, Arthur and Trillian never got together in any book. The dolphins never sang, and, though I may be wrong, I don't think they ever came back to Earth when the Magratheans built it again.

More like, DNA wrote the first draft of the script, it was rejected, and heavily edited.

In the book, the Magratheans never finish Earth 2, at least not while the gang is there. And if they did try to put it up where the old Earth was, they would have gotten a surprise...

So I went and saw this last night (just rocked up to the movies with no intention of seeing anything in particular and this looked better than everything else).
It was pretty pretty good. Haven't read any of the books, but I seemed to catch on. They made it fairly user friendly.
One gripe I had was Ford's towel. I'm not sure why it was important, but it seemed to me to be some kind of weapon, or a shield.
I liked when the whale was falling out of the sky "I wonder if it will be my friend! Hello Ground!"
And the beginning explanation with the dolphins was pretty funny.

Another slightly annoying part was Marvin's whining. Sure, he's depressed and everything, but he didn't need to whine about the same thing all the time.
Reminded me of StrongSad

I finally saw the movie today. It was hilarious. It might have been one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. I don't care how different it was from the book, it was great.

"To business!"

I thought Douglas Adams died four years ago! What's going on?

Wait a minute... I thought "So Long and Thanks for All the Fish" was all about Arthur on the Magratheans' new Earth! It details his time with Fenway (was that her name?) and everything.

Unless... the possibility just occurred to me... but was SLTAF about Earth before it was destroyed?

And PizzaTrophy, there was a very long (and quite funny) explanation as to why every galaxy hitchhiker needed a towel in the book. It's near the beginning of the first one- I suggest you find it in a bookstore and just find and read those few paragraphs. You will be amused.

This movie has been in some stage of development for two decades.

For those of you who are quite obviously confused about how this movie was actually made, the Douglas Adams Continuum has a good FAQ about the movie.

Also the movie editon of the first book has a 92 page section on the making of the movie along with some interviews with cast members.

Having never read the book, I kind of thought that after Marvin was shot in the back of the head, it would rearrange all his robotly circuits and make him happy....
Bit optimistic of me, but I like how he defeated the Vogons.

It was really cute.

Some of the off topic talking-about-aliens bits were a bit so-so.

Kinda like terry pratchet humor... if you can call it that..

No no, it happens after. But in the book the new Earth is not the one created by the Magratheans. It is an Earth from a parallel universe, pulled into our own by the dolphins just after the Vogons destroyed the original.
