The last Don

I noticed on Limo-zeen page Perry_Palaroncini, you mentioned Don Chapman and Donnie Chapman. Are these 2 different people? If so further explanation, or this will be really confusing. I R F 16:05, 21 October 2005 (UTC)

Good question--I'm confused as well; I think the claim is that Don Chapman (father) played Perry in the E-cards but Donnie Chapman (brother) played Perry in monster truck.Trey56 16:09, 21 October 2005 (UTC)
I think they both play him. — talk Bubsty edits 03:16, 2 December 2005 (UTC)

Sig characters

Hey *****6. Just so you know, ever since you changed your signature, the first five characters don't show up. I have a pretty standard configuration with quite a few fonts, so it's likely that a lot of other users are experiencing the same thing. Cheers! — **'* *** **m 17:21, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

I did that once too. Sorry if I messed up the process. — Lapper (talk) 03:28, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
I got it all straightened out, and Jay and I just finished deleting all the pages. If that happens, just hang tight and wait for a sysop, 'cause you won't be able to fix it completely without deleting something. Sorry if I was abrupt, by the way. I didn't know what your plan was, and time was of the essence. Thanks for trying, though. Keep on tranglin'! :) — It's dot com 03:45, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

for templating my gifs... how do you do that??? sry for being a noob =( csours 20:57, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

For one of your two personal images, you add the line "{{personal-image|Csours}}" to the description. For your signature image, you add "{{personal-image-sig|Csours}}". If you ever want to abandon one of your images, add "{{personal-image-abandoned|Csours}}". Trey56 21:06, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

I guess it's dot com would be the guy to ask, since he's the one who wrote the bit about the signature images. He clarified this comment a little on this page, indicating that he doesn't mind animated sig images, as long as they're not too distracting. I don't know, maybe it was fine the other way--they'll probably tell you if not! Anyway, sorry for the bother. Best, Trey56 05:14, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

Nice User Page. If my computer wasn't so frustratingly slow, perhaps I'd have something as awesome. Maybe I'll get a userbox. But enough about me, no one wants to hear about that anyway... -RadSkat3 20:09, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Closing stuff

Hey there. I find that it's easier to close the STUFF item before making the archive. (To get the code, I just go one back in the history.) That way, you eliminate the (slim) possibility of someone changing the item between the time you archive it and close it, plus it gives you a handy red link to follow if the archive page is new. Keep on tranglin'! — It's dot com 19:04, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

That's a good idea — thanks for the tip! Trey56 19:07, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

Hey again. Lately I've noticed that you've been closing the STUFFs very soon after they've opened. I really feel that unless something has ridiculous support (like a vote difference around 20) or is patently true or false, then it shouldn't be closed for at least three or four days. I was still considering the chicken beak one, and I was probably going to vote against it. I think that making STUFF too speedy fosters the idea that you have to log in to the wiki every single day or your voice won't be heard (an attitude I think we should resist). As always, rock, rock on! — It's dot com 20:35, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

Fair enough. The facts you're referring to were ones whose fate I judged to be clearly determined, but I totally agree that it makes sense to give everyone at least a couple days to look at even one-sided facts before they're closed. The guidelines you mentioned will be helpful in making better judgments in the future. Thanks :) Trey56 21:11, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

29 August 2006

The sword of fire. Clearly.

Crystalis featured five swords: wind, fire, water, thunder, and Crystalis. The one toon that used thunder that I can think of is Homestarloween Party. -- Tom 02:04, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

Whoa that looks pretty convincing, Tom. Loafing 02:08, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
Of course, apart from the fact that thunder has also been featured elsewhere on the site: Stinkoman 20X6 Walkthrough Level 9. Wind, fire and water are featured more than once, too. Neither "Crystalis" nor crystal seem to have made an appearance anywhere. I think there was some halloween toon where Marzipan was using a crystal ball to see in the future. But I can't find it. Maybe I made it up. Loafing 02:34, 2 September 2006 (UTC) Addendum: Lappy has Liquid Crystal Display. That rules at "crystal" as well.
My question was intended to mean, "which word has appeared only once on the site," in which case "thunder" is the only one of the five words that has appeared exactly once--in the Scrolling Shooter Games Menu ("Rolling Cheat thunder"). So, even though it was a poorly worded question, you certainly came up with the one that has appeared in any form the least amount of times, Tom (not counting Crystalis, which naturally has never appeared on the site). So, great job figuring out the name of this less well-known game, and sorry for the confusing question. Trey56 06:12, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

To answer #1: Howard Philips founded Nintendo Power... --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 19:54, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
And, going strictly from Wikipedia, I do believe that the answer to #2 is a bowtie. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 19:59, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
And, going strictly from memory, this would make #3's answer Halloween Fairstival, through SB's Joker costume. I think. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 20:02, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
You're right about everything but the last part — there is a more recent toon that includes several bowties... Trey56 20:05, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
I know nothing of old-skool videro games, but bowties we're porminent in senior prom. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 20:36, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
Yep. Here's the summary of what I was thinking of:
Dragon Warrior is the Japanese RPG that started it all. This game's popularity exploded in Japan but would probably never have reached American markets if Nintendo Power Editor-in-Chief Howard Philips hadn't fought so hard for it. Howard Philips is fondly remembered for his Howard & Nester comics and for his ever-present bow tie. Bow ties appear several times in senior prom.
Well done to both of you (and in record time). Trey56 21:01, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

The game is Batman featuring Batman. The screenshot is from just before The Joker dies. The Joker has been featured on homestarrunner.com when Strong Bad dressed as Cesar Romero as The Joker in Halloween Fairstival. -- Tom 06:29, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

Great jorb! Trey56 06:34, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
By the way, after a second viewing under the tutelage of Pom Pom's keen eyes, if you look closely in the screenshot just to the left of the tallest tower, you can see a small purple blob — that's actually the Joker falling... Trey56 06:47, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

Googly-eyed meekness
Good Prize?
Most Improved!

The game is Spiritual Warfare. As for the weapons, on homestarrunner.com we've got a pear, an apple/Puppet Jam: Apple Juice Blues/Stinko-apple, a bag of four grapes/The Grape Fairie/Grape-Nuts Robot, and a banana with an arrow through it/banana phone. No pomegranate, but plenty of Pom Pom... -- Tom 07:23, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Boo yah! (as they say) One of the more obscure NES titles I've got laying around. This game was produced by one of the few companies to make unlicensed games for the NES without being sued, probably for fear of public outcry. Trey56 07:34, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
In Spiritual Warfare I was thinking about the other weapons
Belt of Truth - Peasant's Quest Game
Breastplate of Righteousness
Boots of Preparation - New Boots
Sword of the Spirit - Trogdor the Game.
Helmet of Salvation - Peasant's Quest Trailer
Shield of Faith - In Search of the Yello Dello DVD

After careful consideration of your contributions, I've posted your prize on your talk page. Nice job! Trey56 19:41, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

22 November 2006

The game is Trog!. The Peasant's Quest Movie Trailer toon not only contained a Stop Motion scene (like the gameplay of the game), but also contained the Pterodactyl (a dinosaur, like Bloop) and Jhonka (a caveman-ish guy, like Spike). -- Tom 22:42, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

You're right about the game, but there's a toon that very directly resembles the gameplay of Trog: it features a dinosaur fighting with cavemen... Trey56 23:31, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
As Loafing added and then retracted, you must mean Summer Short Shorts, where The Cheatsaurus scorches Caveman Homestar, Cavewoman Marzipan, and Caveman Strong Bad. -- Tom 23:56, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
That is indeed what I was thinking of...in the game, you can collect a particular item (in a few levels, particularly associated with a volcano) which enables you to breathe fire and destroy the enemy cavemen. Nice job to both of you! Trey56 01:15, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

Get out your oaken stake!

trevor the vampire, and the game is Castlevania III: Dracula's CurseLoafing 08:23, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Exactly! The third installment of Castlevania stars Trevor Belmont, who is on a quest to kill the vampire Dracula. Nicely done :) Trey56 08:28, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
Loafing already beat me, but since I already got it all ready, my answer was gonna be:
The game is Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse. The main hero is Trevor Belmont and the main villain is Dracula, a vampire. The combination of the two would make trevor the vampire. Oh, and that is the team ending when Trevor teams with Sypha Belnades.
Good jorb Loafing. -- Tom 08:31, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
Yup, 'tis Sypha alright — I like that ending better, although I think the game's more fun to play with the wall-climbing Grant DaNasty. Trey56 08:36, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

"Somebody get this freaking duck away from me!"

That looks like Duck Tales, which had a level that took place on the Moon, just like Stinkoman 20X6. :) - Image:TinySaturn2.GIF Saturn 02:20, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

Once again edit-conflicted, but my answer was going to be:
The game is DuckTales. The level in that game also featured in a game on homestarrunner.com is The Moon, featured in Level 5 of Stinkoman 20X6. (And for posterity's sake, you do meet up with K2 in Hallrunner, which is in the Himalayas. Clearly not "featured" but I thought it was interesting when I stumbled across it.)
Good job Saturn. -- Tom 02:28, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

Lifted directly from King's Quest I

Okay, I can't take it anymore. I don't have it all worked out yet, but I've spent too much time working on it not to post anything. I think the game is King's Quest V, which was available for the NES. This image is almost an exact match of the one on your page. Mordack is the brother of the wizard Mannanan, whom Prince Alexander turned into a cat in King's Quest III, whoever they are and whatever that means. Peasant's Quest is based on King's Quest. Rather Dashing is the star of Peasant's Quest. Now, I don't know if any of this earns me happiness for this week, much less a lifetime. I'd just be happy if it's even in the ballpark. I'm tired of trying to figure it out, and I'm going to bed! — It's dot com 07:29, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Ding! You are 95% correct (everything but the bit reference from Halloween Potion-ma-jig, it was easy to miss when there were about 9 million questions in that picture caption) — good work. By the way, I laughed pretty hard when I read "whoever they are and whatever that means." Well done! And I can assure you happiness at least while you slumber :) Trey56 07:34, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
Sigh, beat me again. Mine was:
Rather Dashing is based on the lead from the King's Quest series. The game pictured is King's Quest V: Absence Makes the Heart Go Yonder!. Mordack (the antagonist of KGV) is the brother of the wizard Mannanan. Prince Alexander turned the brother into a cat in King's Quest III: To Heir Is Human. The rose petal essence used in Halloween Potion-ma-jig was an ingredient for the spell to turn into an eagle or fly in KQIII.
Good work Dot com. -- Tom 07:36, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
Good work, you found the KQIII reference in Halloween Potion-ma-jig :) And your responses were within minutes of each other, so you both get a heap of credit for this very difficult one. Trey56 07:39, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
As much as it pains me to point this out, Tom had the correct answer, not me. The question was, which Homestar Runner cartoon contains a specific reference, and the answer was Halloween Potion-ma-jig, which was the final piece of the puzzle I couldn't find. I was on the right track, but I wasn't there yet. Drat! Or is the challenge just to identify the game pictured? I'm so confused. And why am I still awake? — It's dot com 07:43, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
It's both — the first half is identifying the game in the picture, the second half is answering the trivia question. So, I split the happiness two ways. (You should start feeling something shortly, but that might just be the thick cloak of a heavy slumber...) Trey56 07:52, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Pom Pom bobbling

This is probably wrong, but nothing ventured, nothing gained... It's not Ice Climbers, is it? I dunno. Prolly not.-LordQuackingstick 21:08, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

Nope — good guess, though :) Trey56 21:10, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
Oh well. I just cheated and looked it up, so I have the consolation that I wouldn't have guessed it, even though I've heard of it.-LordQuackingstick 21:13, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
Looking it up isn't cheating — many of these are too hard to get otherwise. If you can also get the answer to the associated trivia question, go ahead and post 'em! Trey56 21:15, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

The game is Bubble Bobble (compare with this image). You can skip levels using umbrellas, which on H*R.com happen to be found in the emails suntan and keep cool. — It's dot com 21:20, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

Yup — it is Bubble Bobble, and I was thinking particularly of the King of Town's umbrella in keep coolMarzipan's holding more of a parasol in suntan, even though our transcript calls it an umbrella...
On another note, the irritating thing I found out about trying to beat Bubble Bobble is that when you first think you beat the game by passing the 100 levels and defeating the final boss, you get a "bad end" message. Then, it tells you to go back to level 99 and get the crystal ball. Then, it takes you to about 12 more levels you have to beat before you have to face the final boss again. However, beating him does not win the game for you — it then tells you to beat the game with a friend in two-player mode. So, I did that (with the help of my wife, this is the ending you see in the picture you posted), and then it says that you have to play all 100+ levels again (only more difficult) as "Super Bubble Bobble", get the crystal ball at level 99, and pass the final boss in two player mode, to get the real ending! Argh! That took forever.
At any rate, great jorb! Trey56 21:30, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
Durn it, I just figured it out and someones gotten it. DURN! DURN DURN DURN!-LordQuackingstick 21:31, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
My initial thought was bubble bobble. I can hear that darn music in my head. I guess that I should have guessed. I R F 22:38, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
Well, nevertheless, good job recognizing it (both of you). Trey56 22:54, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
I would've gotten it earlier, but I was unsure about the umbrella's color (I thought that counted). There was no plain ol' black umbrella in Bubble Bobble. The one in keep cool is black.-LordQuackingstick 23:03, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, there are three different colors of umbrellas in BB, each which enables you to skip a different number of levels, so I didn't have a specific color in mind. Some of the games are easier to connect to Homestar Runner than others, like last week's (King's Quest V), since H*R is riddled with KQ references. Trey56 23:05, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

There is a doubt that there are different umbrellas. And furthermore, the NES versions are miscolored and all and stuff and stuff.... {begins panicky mechanical breathing} And furthermore, the NES level count is different than in the arcades:

Spoiler warning: Plot or ending details follow.

(the NES had tons more levels than the arcade had and you have to grab a crystal from some secret room)

Spoilers end here.

And does anyone realize that the NES ending is substantially different in looks than the arcade ending??? Lemme put it this way:

  • Due to Bub colored green and orange, and Bob colored blue and purple int he NES, their human forms look whacked./
  • You see any crying tears in the arcade edit? No.
  • {sigh} Furthermore, I think the multiple storylines of Bubble Symphony are better. Their "gf"'s if you know who I mean are also there.

The game is Kung-Fu Master. Poisonous killer moths attack in the first half of the fouth level. Moths are mentioned in Yearbook Character Page. -- Tom 06:46, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Does Yearbook Character Page qualify as a toon? If so, then you're dead on. If not, I had another appearance in mind... Trey56 06:48, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
That A Ghost then. -- Tom 06:49, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Yep — good work! Hmm, I'm running out of games... Trey56 06:50, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

7 February 2007

"Naw, man. We're puttin' it in the game if you beat the end boss."

Wilbur's associate asked Wilbur if he was going to eat the last congraturation in Videro Games. The game is, naturally, Ghosts 'n Goblins. =3 --DorianGray

Yes sir! And even though I messed up the filename, I should state for the record that you probably knew which game it was anyway [3].
Also, I should mention that TBC also show this particular NES Ending at the end of japanese cartoon. Man, that's by far the hardest NES game I've ever played...
Once again, well done! Trey56 07:46, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

I recognised that one. Wilbur, in Videro Games. He wasn't going to eat that congraturation. Oh, I'm too late. Sorry. Shwoo 07:43, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

Nice work recognizing that ending, as well as the HSR reference! Trey56 07:46, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
It's the only NES ending I c'n actually recognise! =D --DorianGray
Well-earned :) Trey56 07:56, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
I only knew that ending the first place because I referenced it in a fanfic. (Homestar: Congratulations, Strong Sad, you saved the world! Return to starting point! Challenge again!) It was a weird fanfic. Shwoo 08:02, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
Cool :) Trey56 08:17, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

12 February 2007

"MY PANTIES!"

The game is Rampage, which was ported to the NES. rampage makes reference to the game when The Cheat and Strong Mad rampage about in the Easter egg. -- Tom 06:44, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Exactly! Trey56 13:35, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

21 February 2007

River City Ransom is the game, and the email is theme party because the pink shirted enemies are frat guys. — User:ACupOfCoffee@ 19:32, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Nice work — that's exactly what I was thinking of :) Trey56 23:24, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

6 March 2007

The game is Contra. Took place in the Amazon Basin. "amazon" is part of the URL for Bookazon.com which features Leomard Sportsinterviews. -- Tom 06:03, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Yep — as opposed to other versions of the game, which apparently took place off the coast of New Zealand. Well done! Trey56 06:11, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

This may be unrelated, but Strong Bad mumbled Super Contra in his sleep once. I think that may be a sequel or something. --Addict 2006 14:28, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Nope, not unrelated at all; that's the first sequel to Contra, and I considered using that as the clue for this one... Good catch! Trey56 15:19, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

14 March 2007

The game is RoboCop. Homestarloween Party introduced Visor Robot, who shares RoboCop's visor and the "Robo" portion of the name. -- Tom 02:35, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

That's correct — also, according to Strong Sad, the Visor Robot has a human brain, just as Robocop has some human organs...but that's stretching the connection :P Good work! Trey56 02:40, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
Ahhh! So that was the connection! I knew it was RoboCop by looking at the Bigger image (it's the last scene of the movie) but it didn't occurr to me that it was the visor robot that was modeled after it :(. --Stux 14:44, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, the question was admittedly kind of a stretch on this one — way to recognize the game, though! Trey56 15:12, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
Thank you! Next time I'll just have to beat Tom somehow. If that's at all possible ;). Dude, you're quick replying. Do you sleep? Both last night and this morning (US Eastern Time Zone) you replied quickly to my notes! I know you're a native german speaker (I think Dorian mentioned that in some other talk page): do you live in Europe? Anyway, next time, I'll be ready ;). --Stux 15:25, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
Sleep? What's that? Naw, I live in Chicago, and I only speak English very well — you might be thinking of Loafing, who's a native German speaker. As for being on at weird hours, that comes from the combination of being a grad student and a parent of a young child ;) Trey56 15:34, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
Ah! Loafing! Yes, yes I did confuse you guys. Did I tell you that I am bad with names? Ah! Yes, I know the Grad Student part very well. I can understand the parent part. I know this is late but, congratulations! (On the parent thing). :) --Stux 15:39, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks! :D Trey56 15:53, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

20 March 2007

The game is Maniac Mansion. The ending you have there is seen if you choose to shoot the meteor into space. The game is explicitly referenced in frame 792 of lackey in the Floppy Disk Container. -- Tom 19:07, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Wow, I can't stump you! Looks like I'll have to look for some more obscure games. Yep, that's exactly right — as a side note, I love it when TBC put little Easter eggs in their toons that you can only find by decompiling the Flash file (that floppy disk is mostly obscured by the black border). Good work! Trey56 19:14, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
(had an edit conflict and I just *now* noticed it.) How, just HOW do you do it!? --Stux 19:59, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
Whaaa-donk. Click click click click click click click. This is not a drill. --Get what I mean? Why don't you try to explain this to the people here? Addict 2006 22:49, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
It's funny you brought that up — I noticed that too. It is clearly not the noise found in the NES version. Do you happen to know if it's the noise used in the PC version, or is the fact completely wrong? Trey56 22:53, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
Well, this and Wikipedia are subject to hoaxes... I wonder though. I don't have such a thing so I don't know. Man, if only a {{verification needed}} tag existed here. --Addict 2006 22:57, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
Yes — anyway, thanks for reminding me about that :) Trey56 23:09, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

27 March 2007

So, since I have nothing to lose, I might as well observe that the statue that appears there seems to be a moai, so I'm wondering if the game might be Moai Kun. Mind you, I never played it and the screenshots I'm seeing don't look very similar to what you've got, so probably not. But heck, might as well try. Heimstern Läufer 05:12, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

You're on the right track; but that's not the right game... good guess! Trey56 05:14, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
Thought not, but hey, at least I could demonstrate my knowledge of the word "moai". Heimstern Läufer 05:15, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I would have said "Easter Island head" :D Trey56 05:17, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

The game is Arkanoid. The boss Doh behaves very much like Vector Strong Bad. -- Tom 06:06, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Yep, you're right! Can't fool you. In retrospect, I didn't know that there was an article on Moai in popular culture, although you perhaps didn't use that... Good job!Trey56 12:56, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
And in speaking Bubble Bobble series terms, and back into the infamous Bubble Bobble 2 ambiguation: Yes, Rainbow Islands has that boss and an island that makes a reference to Arkanoid (probably with deadly balls that once again kill the player instantly on contact, as it is with such games) too. --Addict 2006 23:17, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
And another game that features moais: Parodius Da (aka the "Nonsense fantasy", the first game released on the SNES). --Addict 2006 23:20, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
I didn't know about those ones — I'll have to play them soon! Trey56 23:56, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

3 April 2007

Super Mario Bros. 3 is the game, I believe. The toon is Pumpkin Carve-nival, in which The King of Town says "Sorry, king, but our princess is an another castle!" Heimstern Läufer 23:24, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Exactly — nice work! (and fast too) Trey56 23:29, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
Not exactly,
The game is Super Mario Bros. 3. The quote is "But our Princess is in another castle" which is quoted as "Sorry, King, but our princess is in another castle..." by The King of Town in Pumpkin Carve-nival.
See marioIII-4.gif :P -- Tom 23:30, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
Yes — you're right. Close enough, though :P Also, I should note that both Super Mario Bros. 3 and the KOT are referencing the original message at the end of the first seven worlds of Super Mario Bros. Trey56 23:41, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
Of course. Good work Heimstern! -- Tom 23:44, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, that last bit was more for completeness than 'cause I thought people didn't know it. Thanks for playing, guys :) Trey56 23:51, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

And you know what's more for completeness? And that people don't even know?!

Spoiler warning: Plot or ending details follow.

Well, I remember reading somewhere that what Princess Toadstool/Peach said at the end was different in the Japanese NES version (and even in the GBA remake, so I remember playing once). I do not wanna spaz out on every single unnecessary change, so I'll quote, from this site:

The Japanese SMB3 features a more serious Princess Toadstool. In the Japanese version, Princess Toadstool originally said, "Thank you! Finally, peace returns to the Mushroom World. The end!"

Picture: "Hahaha! Oh wait..."

As a side note:

...it is interesting to note that neither the Japanese nor English versions of SMB3 in Super Mario All-Stars are based on their respective NES versions. Instead, both games contain an amalgamation of the Japanese and English versions, with the level changes (such as the world 1-1 Fortress) remaining from English version, along with the graphic "gimmicks" (such as the suit flying off effect) from the Japanese version.

And if I must state again ("Oh no! Don't do it!!!") Oh drop that. Anyway, if I must state it again, I said that the non-joke ending was also repeated for the GBA remake. Princess Toadstool/Peach says "Thank you! Peace has at last returned to our Mushroom Kingdom!" And with that, I re-checked and it was like that.

Well, I'll have to ask you to go back to here and here. The original world names from the NES Japanese edit were mostly kept for the GBA remake. "Castle of Koopa" was kept but of course they changed it to "Bowser's Castle", in my opinion because they had to change that to fit today's standards... or something.

And if you ever play the GBA remake, you'll see they decided to add a little motion to the static pictures of the original, so that all the characters fit into the place when the freeze-frame sets in for each of them. (Get what I'm saying?)

Spoilers end here.

And so ends another ending plot expansion since the last time I stressed over Bubble Bobble and its own NES differences. Not that I'm stressing now. Really. And that's it. Hopefully I won't have to overload ending plot discrepancies again. Alright now. --Addict 2006 19:39, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

Wow — interesting! I didn't know any of that! I think I like the English NES ending the best, though. That sneaky Princess! Trey56 22:19, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

French subtitles

Hi Trey. I saw you did some edits to the French subtitles, saying that there were "superfluous spaces". Allow me to clear this : in French, we put spaces after some of the punctuation. For example we put a space before (and after, of course) "!" and "?", as in "J'aime Homestar Runner ! Et toi ?".
It's a simple rule but it's not like that in English, so I understand why you tought I messed up with the spaces. But trust me, for a French reader it will be more clear with spaces like that.
But thanks for your help anyway ^^ I'll go translate some more... --Meuhcoin 15:43, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Oh. And here I thought I was doing you a favor. Sorry about that! Trey56 15:52, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Sniff

I liked your old siggy.  Loafing 22:25, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks — I was just trying to conform to the signature policies...on the other hand, if I have the approval of a sysop, then maybe it's okay the other way :) Trey56 23:56, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
What! No exceptions unless you pay me five bucks! Hmmm, the policies state that "preferably a signature would include no more than one image", so it would be acceptable to have two. It's a bit tougher on animated images, which are "strongly discouraged". As a sysop, I do encourage users to follow these recommendations. But on the other hand, your old siggy did conform to the rules, just not the recommendations; so there was nothing wrong with it ;-)  Loafing 01:03, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
Hm. Well, what do you think about the following idea for a new sig?
Image:UserLoafingSig.png T Image:UserLoafingSig.png R Image:UserLoafingSig.png E Image:UserLoafingSig.png Y Image:UserLoafingSig.png 5 Image:UserLoafingSig.png 6 Image:UserLoafingSig.png 01:16, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
Eh, I guess I kind of changed it on a whim; I'll probably change it to the old one. Or this new "loafified" one.
Doode! It's too long!
Image:UserLoafingSig.png T Image:UserLoafingSig.png R Image:UserLoafingSig.png E Image:UserLoafingSig.png Y Image:UserLoafingSig.png 5 Image:UserLoafingSig.png 6 Image:UserLoafingSig.png
You'll have to go with your old one, then ;-)  Loafing 01:22, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
Nuts, and I really had my heart set on all those tiny loaves...*sigh* ;) Trey56 01:23, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

I think your sig blew up... Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 09:27, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

It could have something to do with the HRWiki:autocolumn there. Dot com might have an idea on what's up. -- Tom 16:08, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
Well, it's definitely the autocolumn. I'll work on debugging it in a bit. — It's dot com 16:54, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
Sorry! I'm sure it is the autocolumn (it works everywhere else, and wasn't there another problem with another function in autocolumns?) For now, I'll just replace my sig on that page with the appropriate text. Trey56 19:21, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

No problem :) Trey56 02:39, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks and stuff!

Well, yes... but that translation is Horrible. Even I couldn't understand... It was just put in an online translator and it just gave out gibberish. I just put that as a "dummy" I got the english translation and is working on that right now.

Aha; I see. Online translators do suck — you'd think with all the modern technology available nowadays they could make better ones... :) Trey56 03:37, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
One might think so, but even our English-English stuff doesn't work. Try putting a semi-colon in a sentance in Microsoft Word... and see how terrified it gets. Green squily line and a "hey, get that outa here." I R F 23:03, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
That reminds me of a talk I attended by Kurt Vonnegut, who ordered us never to use semicolons; in his opinion they're androgenous (he used a stronger word there) punctuation marks that can't make up their mind one way or the other... Trey56 23:17, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
Kurt Vonnegut is pretty old now, I didn't realize that he was still alive. I R F 23:22, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, he was pretty old four years ago or so when I heard him talk; he was talking about his friends dying and going to heaven. But what else can you expect from the president of the American Humanist Association ;) Trey56 23:27, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
So it goes. -- Tom 00:19, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, he made a lot of clever comments like those :) Trey56 01:13, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

HELP!!

Um, I tried to upload a .png file for my sig and this message keeps coming up: "The file is corrupt or has an incorrect extension. Please check the file and upload again." I keep trying again and it doesn't work... and you're not a sysop?!?! WELL YOU SHOULD BE!! Very Seriously, TheYellowDart(t/c)

I can think of a couple reasons why you might be getting that message. One thing that might be happening is that there's something weird going on with the .png part of the filename (for example, the file thinks that it's suppressing the .png, but the rest of the name is FILENAME.png, so that the actual file's name is FILENAME.png.png). So, I would try fiddling around with that part of the filename. If that doesn't fix it for you, you might have to try taking the screenshot (assuming that's what it is) again. Hope this helps, Trey56 21:32, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
Um, actually I converted a Marshie icon file (.ico) thst I downloaded off of H*R to a .png. It may be corrupted now that I think about it. But the funny thing is, when I open it (let's say I use the program PAINT) it works. Hmm... TheYellowDart(t/c) Merry Christmas!
Hmm...I'm not sure what the problem is. If you direct me to the .ico file, I'd be happy to convert it to a png file and upload it for you. Trey56 05:55, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for trying to help...

Thanks, but I was fixing the problem on my user page at the same time you were... the page said "someone else has edited this page before you...". Isn't that a weird coincidence? Anyway, it's really late, and..... I hope they finish that LOGO DISCUSSION soon. Geez. TheYellowDart(t/c)

No problem... just providing some technical assistance, although I hadn't realized that your addition of the userboxes was so recent. I just stumbled across your page and noticed they weren't right, so I fixed them. Sorry for the edit conflict :) Trey56 06:58, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

Help out

  • Hey, I'm thinking about creating a new page, but I don't know what to call it and I don't know all of its info. The page will be about interuppted names Strong Bad usually starts sounding out before getting interrupted by someone. Such as in bottom 10: He says, "and the number one spot in my bottom 10 is... Spoken Article Question

Hey Trey. I noticed you did a few Spoken Articles. They are in a .ogg extention. What program can I run them in? TheYellowDart(t/c) P.S. Check out some funny videos on my userpage.

A lot of people use VLC. By the way, I had never heard of .ogg files till recently either — apparently, wikis like to use them best. High fives, Trey56 01:53, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
Interesting. Anyway, thanks, and uh, I think .wav format would be a lot less stressing! TheYellowDart(t/c)

Thanks! A ton, man!

Well, I'm here! --Addict 2006 22:50, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

Hey hey — welcome to the wiki! (see here) Trey56 22:57, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

I guess you've been following me around, right? Anyway, I think your challenges are too hard. I'm no fan of all NES games and stuff. I just know Bubble Bobble. I think. --Stuff and stuff, Addict 2006 18:28, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, they are hard, although I would say that this last one was by far the most difficult. If you look through the image history, you'll see that they're not all as difficult: some are easily recognizable to people who have played those games, some have text in the picture that can be searched for on Google, and many can be found through vgmuseum.com. As for following you around, no, not really, but I do pay attention sometimes when I see your name in Recent Changes. High fives, Trey56 19:36, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

Have You Seen This?

Have you looked at this? I thinked it'd be good to have you as a editor of that wiki, seeing as how you're a fellow nintendophile...-LordQuackingstick 01:45, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I saw that! Looks like it could be helpful wiki — are you a user there? I probably won't join right now — the last thing I need to do is get hooked on another wiki :) But I'm curious, what is that wiki going to encompass? Raw data about the systems and games only, or walkthroughs of games too? I'll be keeping my eye on that one; I've often wondered why there wasn't a Nintendo wiki... Trey56 01:49, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
I have utterly no idea what it will encompass, because there's practically no finished articles and few users, so editing is needed. Also, take a look at the Zelda one. That one's more active. I'm a user on both under the name "Enviroinments." Ha! Get it?-LordQuackingstick 01:53, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, that's clever — something that I'm sure the other Zelda fans will appreciate :) Trey56 01:57, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Not that I know of; at least it's not a toll-free service anymore, and if they exist I don't think they're called by the same name. I could still try to grow a mullet, though. Trey56 06:09, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Nothing else to say. I'd say that went pretty well.

Create a page at User:Visorbot 386/sig and put the text [[Image:wiki.png|20px]][[User:Visorbot 386|Visorbot 386]] there (just replace the sample image name for whatever image you want, and you may have to adjust the image width (the 20px thing) to make sure that the image is no more than 20px high.)
  2. Then, go to Special:Preferences and paste {{User:Visorbot 386/sig}} into the "Signature:" line.
  3. Now, whenever you want to leave a signature with a timestamp, just type four tildes (~~~~). If you want to leave a signature without a timestamp, just type three tildes.
Hope this helps, and let me know if you have any questions! Trey56 17:35, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

It isn't working for some reason.. this comes up: Visorbot 386

It should be fixed now. Let me know if you have any other questions! Trey56 19:38, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

You're right. I guess I let my excitement of it get the best of me.
It's in the right place now. Shaz 05:56, 5 March 2007

No problem — it looks pretty cool by the way; I don't blame you for getting excited :) Trey56 06:01, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Hey!

Did you see my other wikipdia userpage? Lazylaces? Lazylaces Talk

Cool! I have a Wikipedia account too, but I use it pretty infrequently :) Trey56 17:30, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
In case you didn't know, I did the same thing on my HRWiki user page. Of course you do know I am also on Wikipedia. But I go back and forth. Kinda. I used to have a variant of Not the 100th Email!!! on my user page, but then decided to switch to two unattended Lappy 486 screens, and then to a single Lappy screen with Strong Bad's reply. --Addict 2006 15:51, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Sysop

Hi there Trey. It is my distinct pleasure to announce that you have been given sysop privileges and responsibilities. If you have any questions, never hesitate to ask. May you always use your powers for good and for awesome. Thanks. -- Tom 22:21, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Hooray for not having to tag completed STUFF pages for deletion anymore and wait for someone else to do it! Keep doing good stuff for the wiki and do block some vandal for me soon. Heimstern Läufer 22:25, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Wow — this took me off guard! I've loved being a part of this wiki, and I'll do my best to responsibly use the sysop tools to help keep it a great place for everyone. Deleted, true but....

Hey Trey, maybe not the best place to put this but for lack of a better place.

When things are deleted, as are off color pages from time to time or even just maybe regular maintanence. How you do decide that?

How does one decide? (I've come to play on IRC off and on, but for the rest of us, how do you decide?) Nothing accusatory, really. Just, a ?. (User:Bryanc)

Are you asking about a specific item in particular? Most deletion decisions fall into one of the following categories; I've listed the conditions required for deletion next to each one.
  • Normal article created in the mainspace — put the {{tbd}} template up and delete if consensus to do so is achieved.
  • Article intended for or resulting from blatant vandalism — immediately delete.
  • Articles/images/etc. whose creator/uploader requests deletion — immediately delete.
  • STUFF pages — wait seven days after the last item has been closed, then archive items and delete template. (see here)
Also, note that all deleted pages can be retreived, and poor deletion decisions are subject to reversal by other sysops.
Does this sufficiently answer your question? Later, Trey56 06:04, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
That is valuable information, thank you. I actually don't remember why I was all fussed about anything to begin with. Someone ought to install a breathalizer on my computer. BryanCTC 20:26, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

I just want to bring to your attention that this user has a link to porn on his userpage. Additionally, he swears on one of his userboxes and makes a comment on there that makes me want to throw up. Thanks, --TheYellowDart(t/c) 23:06, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

STUFF vote correction

You have brought to my attention that a person can only accept one revision of the same fact. I appreciate it, and I have made the corrections, which you have adknowledged, however, could you please point out specifically where it states this in the policy you pointed out? Thank you. Flare 23:12, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Sure — it's the second-to-last sentence in the "Notes about voting" section on HRWiki:STUFF. "Revisions to facts are considered separate. You can decline the original wording but accept the revision. (You cannot accept more than one revision. Only your bottommost vote to accept will count.)" Hope this helps, Trey56 23:14, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for pointing this out. And I must say, you've been very helpful and polite to me, despite the obvious fact that I'm new here. I very much appreciate it. Thank you. Flare 19:12, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
No problem — everybody's new once — we're glad to have you here! Trey56 20:44, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Page Creations

Do you have any idea what page to create, cuz I can't think of any. User talk:Sam the Man Sam the Man

None come to mind at the moment — however, there'll likely be an update within the next 24 hours, and so there should then be plenty of work to do! Other than that, it's always good to work on refining our currently existing articles. Hope this helps, Trey56 23:49, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

signature

Is there any possible way to get an animation beside my name or a signature?Haddiman

There is — the trick is to have one that's subtle enough that people don't find it distracting (see HRWiki:Signature). But, if you find such an image, you can upload it and put it in your signature using the instructions at Help:Signature. Let me know if you have any questions! Trey56 23:56, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Understandable!! Well, you should be pleased at least that this year's prank is a lot tamer than last year's, which had a lot of people fooled until April 2 hit. I thought this year's was clever, personally, and it took me by surprise :) Laters! Trey56 22:22, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

"Truthful comment", day 2

Okay, now can you see this? And looks like you oughta archive your talk page. But do something about the NES Trivia Challenges. Oh wait. Yes, SB has just had his funeral dirge contested. See my user page for more info. --Addict 2006 14:11, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Archive my page? No way. A long talk page is the coolest. =3 I agree with you, though, the other song they chose for Strong Bad's funeral seemed really out of place. Boo! Trey56 15:22, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Yay ;-)

NES Question

Is it Senor Mortgage? User talk:Sam the Man Sam the Man

Nope — the game is Super Mario Bros. 3, and the toon is Pumpkin Carve-nival (see here). Trey56 17:29, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Hey there!

I was wondering how do you delete and undelete a page? User talk:Sam the Man Sam the Man

Hey, Sam. If you see a page that should be deleted, add the {{tbd}} template to the top of the page. In an unusual case where the page requires speedy deletion (e.g., vandalism, etc.), you can use the {{delete|insert reason here}} tag. In the first case, if consensus to delete is achieved on the talk page, a sysop will delete the page, and in the second case, the same thing will happen but more quickly. You can read more about this at HRWiki:Deletion Policy. Hope this helps! Trey56 22:41, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
Thanks!!! User talk:Sam the Man Sam the Man
Also, I mean literly, how do you really delete a page like you deleted Visitation Room? User talk:Sam the Man Sam the Man
Aha. That's a restricted feature, but not having access to this doesn't prevent you from being part of the decision-making process which enables its use. Trey56 22:56, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Dear Trey56

I have noticed lately that you have been really a good friend to me lately. In that way, I have one thing to say. WELCOME TO THE COOL PEEPS LIST!!! I say, well done. It takes a lot of work to be on that list! User talk:Sam the Man Sam the Man
