Hey there Steaky Steaky 6. I know you're trying to help out, but we have a rule here that people aren't allowed to edit other people's user pages. Perhaps they WANT it the way it was, and the change is counter productive? For example, the {{p|l=http://www.hrwiki.org/w/index.php?title=User:RickTommy&curid=50328&diff=706012&oldid=705950&rcid=666976 change you made to RickTommy's page}} was to change from a british spelling to an american one, while it's quite likely he intended it as is. I hope that helps. Keep on tranglin. {{User:DeFender1031/sig}} 19:47, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

If there's anything else i can help you with, feel free to drop me a line over on my talk page, or [[ISP|march your pasty white bwathom down to talk to the man in charge.]] Alright, talk atcha later. {{User:DeFender1031/sig}} 01:29, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Some links to help get you started

Here are some resources to help familiarize yourself with the Homestar Runner Wiki:

  • Before you do any significant editing, be sure to read our wiki standards and our other policies.
  • If you need general information, editing tips, or answers to frequently asked questions, check out the various help pages.
  • To practice editing, head over to the sandbox.
  • If you have a question that isn't addressed on a help page, you can ask it on the FAQ talk page.

To get plugged in to the community:

  • Let us know a little bit about yourself on your user page. (Please see the rules and guidelines for your user space first.)
  • If you're not sure what you can do to help out, head over to The Stick.
  • If you're looking for more community interaction, you can also register over at our forum.
  • If you see an update on homestarrunner.com that isn't listed on the Main Page, put it up here.
  • To sign and timestamp a post on a talk page, type four tildes (~~~~).
  • Above all, be sure to be bold and have fun!
The information above is provided as a service upon registration. Once you have checked out all the links, please feel free to delete it.

[edit] Any suggestions?

I'm new to having a hrwiki account and I'm not sure how to edit my page.-SteakStyles

Edit your page how? If you mean just a normal edit to your page, you could just simply click the "Edit" button at the top as you just did to your talk page. RickTommy (edits) 00:42, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
but it looks all wierd. how do i make a headline and userboxes and stuff like that? id also like to make a signature for my name. -SteakStyles
Reading the links that were here when you first created your account should help you get started, especially the help pages. I have replaced that text above for your convenience. — Defender1031*Talk 19:47, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

Thanks dude, that helped alot! I'll visit your page sometime!-SteakStyles

I don't think you can get to the userboxes page from any of those links though, so here it is: HRWiki:Userboxes. It tells you how to build a tower on your page, and then gives you a substantial number of examples to choose from, or you can make your own userboxes once you get the hang of it.
As for signature help, if you want help with a specific pattern, there are a few people on the wiki who are willing to help you create a signature if the information provided in the links isn't enough. Sadly, since I don't know off the top of my head, I can't tell you anyone more specific than that. To sign your talk posts, just type ~~~~ and before you create a signature, your name will appear in blue with a link to your user page and a timestamp. Afterwards, go to one of those links and it will tell you what to do. And let it be known that a signature is not required; at least two of our most experienced users don't have anything more than a blue link to their user page as their signature. That said, I do understand the desire to have a unique signature.
Headlines: put equals signs around what you want to make a headline. Add __TOC__ to the top of a page, as I have done on this talk page for you. That will create a menu (a Table Of Contents^) that will take you to the top of each section and subsection. I've blocked wiki formatting to show you how to write them, but when you type that in, you will see the headings appear. And you don't have to put them in bold.

=Top of the page=
==Section==
===Subsection===
====Further subsection====
=====I forget just how far these go=====
======but you shouldn't really need them this far anyway======

You'll need the ones in bold more often than the others. I think that's what you're asking about anyway...
May I extend a word of welcome; I hope you enjoy the place and decide to stick around. Just shout if you need anything else; there are lots of us who are happy to help you out. The Knights Who Say Ni 06:30, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

Ya'll are life savers. This page will be ship-shape in no time.SteakStyles 20:44, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Using Show Preview

Hello SteakStyles, I see that you have made several consecutive edits to the same page. I want to point out the Show Preview button. It's right next to the Save Page button when you edit. You should use it whenever you are making a lot of experimental edits, for example when you are trying to get formatting right. Using the Show Preview button is quicker and easier than saving and clicking "edit" again, and will keep recent changes and page histories from being flooded. Thanks, RickTommy (edits) 23:40, 16 July 2010 (UTC)
