Show Preview

That one

Hi. I noticed you had to edit the same page at least 4 times in a row. I would like to reccomend that you use the "show preview" button located next to "save page". Since it does not close the edit window, it saves the time usually spent repeatedly clicking "edit" and then "save page", and prevents flooding of Special:Recentchanges. BBG 22:17, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Show Preview really is a handy tool. You'll save yourself a lot of time, and you'll save recent changes from a lot of flooding. OptimisticFool 22:24, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
Mr. McCloud, Just to reiterate (and I don't want this to seem like the community is yelling at you): every single edit you make (every time you hit the Save Page button) logs an edit into our Recent Changes Page. By making multiple small changes to the same page (instead of using the Show Preview button) you do three real disservices to the wiki. First, you flood Recent Changes, thereby kicking out other changes off of the 30 that usually display, meaning contributors have a harder time finding edits that go against firm held consensus. Second, you make the job of the Recent Changes Patrol (which I sometimes feel like the only member) much harder. The RCP exists to check every single edit to check for Spam and the like (and is actually the reason some edits have orange exclamation points next to them on your Recent Changes log.) Third, you may actually be burying where the RCP and other editors can't find it or have a harder time reverting it.
I want to restate that the community is not against you. I personally think that mostly all of the edits you've made have been productive and have followed the basic tenet to "leave the knowledge base a little better when you log out then when you logged on." Keep up the good work, but heed the advice of your fellow community member. Flashfight 22:49, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
Really, it won't bite, i promise. — Defender1031*Talk 04:32, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
I've done it countless times before. I did it again, the multiple edits. I apologize. It's hard for me to do sections. StarFox 04:44, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
I understand. I make that mistake on occasion too. You won't be blocked for it or anything, and you're doing great work. Guess what i'm trying to say can be best summed up by homsar. "I'm just a friendly reminder". — Defender1031*Talk 04:46, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

You're a Good New(ish) User

Hi, I'm Brightstar Shiner. I've been a member of this wiki for a good chunk of time, and in that while I've seen untold amounts of new users make a few edits (usually to their userpage), then leave out of either boredom or frustration, never to be seen again. I'm glad you're making the effort of getting to know how the wiki works (and apologizing for not using Show Preview; lots of people make that mistake, so don't worry about it too much ^_~), and I hope you stay for a long time. We need more good users like you. -Brightstar Shiner 00:07, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

X Often Appears in the Homestar Runner Universe

We have a project against article intros with phrases as generic as the one above. Can you help by refraining from using that phrase? BBG 03:10, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Edit Summaries

Hi StarFox. I wanted to encourage you to make full use of the edit summary feature. It makes it really hard to see what is going on in a page's history without having to individually tread through every edit and it makes it harder to gague what the intention behind your edits are. This makes the overall job of maintaining the wiki a little bit harder. So even a small brief comment describing what you're doing in every edit goes a long way. Thanks! --Stux 17:31, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Please do this more often, especially since you've been modifying and removing facts on long-standing articles. Without an edit summary, I have no idea what you thought was wrong with the original fact. It's also just plain common courtesy. Heimstern Läufer 20:49, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
