Heylo, I just noticed [[User:SamFisher1022/Java]]. It's cool that you're learning Java, but this page has got nothing to do with our wiki. Hi Sam. If you don't mind, I added [http://www.hrwiki.org/index.php?title=User%3ASamFisher1022%2FHRW%3ANOT&diff=515378&oldid=513006 another section] to your subpage. I've seen a good deal of users who only come to greet other people and make useless chit-chats. This is also one of the reasons guestbooks got banned. {{User:E.L. Cool/sig}} 09:20, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

:Yeah, that's the same observation I made several times, then I finally [[HRWiki:Da Basement#What HRWiki is not|suggested]] a new policy on it. I don't mind you editing the page, in fact that's what I want; it's intended to be a sort of rough draft for the proposed policy, and though I don't think I'm the best man for the job, I got it started. Thanks for helping out with stuff I missed! — {{User:SamFisher1022/sig}} 16:07, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

Haldo, SamFisher. Nice job with the e-mail redirects so far. I've patrolled all of them, so we know they are all set up right. I don't mind the RC flood on a slow day like this. Great job being bold, but beware with big projects like this; it's wise to get community support for large tasks like this so your hard work doesn't go down the drain. These redirects are no big deal. In fact, I kinda like them because searching for sbemail# without a space is counter-intuitive for some people. Are you planning on finishing them all in one sitting? —[[User:BazookaJoe|BazookaJoe]] 21:20, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

:...Uh, no. My fingers started getting twitchy halfway through the Tandy redirects, which is not only bad for my speed (I time myself for no particular reason), but it means I'll also end up making more typos that will mess up the page (I've seen you clean them up, so thanks). I was about to post on [[Talk:Strong Bad Email]] about the idea of making all these pages, but for some reason I wasn't sure that would be the right place to post. I've just finished a third of the Compy redirects (the largest group), and I think I'm ready for a ''serious'' break. — {{User:SamFisher1022/sig}} 16:36, 12 November 2006

(I am also leaving the same message to DeFender1031 and Sam the Man.) As established editors I believe you handled poorly the welcoming of this user. Instead of providing a more welcoming and inviting message, you have a quick edit war of sorts in someone else's user talk page. Imagine how a new user would feel seeing this kind of mysterious edit summary arguments going on. This sort of behavior could easily turn away prospective editors (good or not so much). I think in general we've established a bad habit of quick reverts with a simple edit summary and no explanation. Friendly but informative notices to less established users should be the norm, not the exception. --[[User:Stux|Stux]] 20:08, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

::You kind of missed the point: more care needs to be taken when handling situations like these (and all edits in general). If, as you said, you're rushed and don't have the time to do a proper welcome then just let it go and have someone else take care of it. It's better to let things be than make matters worse by not completing a task properly. --[[User:Stux|Stux]] 23:52, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

:::Same thing. Just copy all the code for your userbox and paste it into a subpage, then replace the code on your main userpage with <nowiki>{{User:Sam the Man/userbox}}</nowiki>. For welcoming, check out [[User:SamFisher1022/welcome]] and notice the {{{1}}} at the end. When you welcome a new user, type <nowiki>{{User:Sam the Man/welcome|time and date here}}</nowiki> and everything after the vertical bar will replace the {{{1}}} to form a timestamp. — {{User:SamFisher1022/sig}} 8:22, 6 April 2007

== Edit Summary ==
+
-

+
-
You know, i'm sure your contributions to [[Strong Bad Email Statistics]] are good, but it would have been REALLY helpful to include an edit summary to explain what you did. It makes others less put out, and makes you seem more with-it and in control. I have a section on my userpage which addresses this, feel free to [[User:Qermaq#How to become a sysop good user|read it]]. {{User:Qermaq/sig}} 21:05, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
+
-
:That was a mistake on my part. What had happened was... first, I began cleaning the article, but after seeing how much work was going to need doing, I opened the page in a new window and added <nowiki>{{pageinprogress}}</nowiki>. Then, feeling like I had set myself up for an Edit Conflict, I went ahead and hit Save Page (without filling in the summary box) to get it out of the way. But then the page saved successfully, which surprised me. Hence, if you look at the time I added the template and the time I finished cleaning the article, they're only one minute apart (I also made one last edit after that). So, that's what happened. Really. <_< — {{User:SamFisher1022/sig}} 21:10, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
+
-
::That's all tough and cool and kool and tuff. But what I'm driving at is this: seriously, go into prefs and set "remind to use edit summary" and that way every edit you make will carry with it your reason for the edit, because otherwise the wiki will argue with you. (Not the participants, the program.) I use it, it helps me a lot. And more importantly, it helps others a lot. Give it due consideration. {{User:Qermaq/sig}} 21:25, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
+
-
:::All done, but the reason I didn't summarize my edit is because I didn't know the page would actually save. Had I see that coming, I would have entered something. — {{User:SamFisher1022/sig}} 21:31, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Java

Heylo, I just noticed User:SamFisher1022/Java. It's cool that you're learning Java, but this page has got nothing to do with our wiki. See our subpage policy. Please mark it with "{{delete}}" after you've saved the contents. Thanks for understanding. Loafing 21:52, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

Aw, come on... where else can I get help with this stuff? It's better to ask someone than scour the textbook... — SamSF%20sig.jpgFisher (Come in, Lambert.) 22:08, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
Aw two, Loafing beet me to posting this... - King of wikis needing to log in.

[edit] story

hello sam fisher, i am currently writing a story and will like it if i can use your name for an ending sentance, and maybe a small cameo during the climax. if you agree or disagree, please tell me. Slipknot6477 01:32, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

Sure thing. What kind of story are we talking? — SamSF%20sig.jpgFisher (Come in, Lambert.) 19:47, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

hasn't been announced, but your only parts are sniping trolls and the irc channel thing. if you look at my page, you might have an idea of what it is about. i am going to write it soon today. Slipknot6477 22:13, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Uploading images

I gave it a try this morning and it let me upload! I think it's been 38 (?) hours. So maybe it's a 36-hour wait instead of a 48-hour wait. In case it interests you. :) TheGirl 14:37, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

That's great! When I was asked that before, I had no clue until another user chimed in and said 48 hours. It's odd that nobody seems to know the real answer... I'll take it up with an admin and make sure it gets put on a Help page. — SamSF%20sig.jpgFisher (Come in, Lambert.) 15:21, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] HRWiki:NOT

Hi Sam. If you don't mind, I added another section to your subpage. I've seen a good deal of users who only come to greet other people and make useless chit-chats. This is also one of the reasons guestbooks got banned. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 09:20, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, that's the same observation I made several times, then I finally suggested a new policy on it. I don't mind you editing the page, in fact that's what I want; it's intended to be a sort of rough draft for the proposed policy, and though I don't think I'm the best man for the job, I got it started. Thanks for helping out with stuff I missed! — SamSF%20sig.jpgFisher (Come in, Lambert.) 16:07, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Quote Game

Is your quote game thing still active? I know the current quote number 2 is from (appropriately enough) Splinter Cell.-DAGRON 17:18, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

Yep, it's active, and you got it on the, well, outside rim of the spot. See if you can name the exact game and who said it. ;) — SamSF%20sig.jpgFisher (Come in, Lambert.) 17:54, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
Okay, it's Grimsdottir in Chaos Theory :P DAGRON 22:00, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
You haven't been around in a while, but in case you see this, I see Erk from Fire Emblem on your quotes list. -DAGRON 20:36, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Careless reverting

SamFisher1022: This is ridiculous. --Stux 20:08, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Hey, I was going to welcome that user myself if I wasn't busy with other stuff. By the time I was ready you already welcomed him, so I just let it go. — SamSF%20sig.jpgFisher (Come in, Lambert.) 20:11, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
You kind of missed the point: more care needs to be taken when handling situations like these (and all edits in general). If, as you said, you're rushed and don't have the time to do a proper welcome then just let it go and have someone else take care of it. It's better to let things be than make matters worse by not completing a task properly. --Stux 23:52, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
Look, I'm sorry about what I did. I was busy with the "HRW:NOT" issues, and didn't have the patience to actually read what was removed before I put it back. I know it was a careless mistake, but you didn't have to come over here to humiliate me over it. And the fact that you did this to two other guys too only makes it look like you're trying to boss us around. — SamSF%20sig.jpgFisher (Come in, Lambert.) 14:30, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] sig too long

Hey Samfisher1022. Your sig is a teeny-tiny bit too long

SamSF%20sig.jpgFisher (Come in, Lambert.)

So just adjust it a little bit so it fits in the box. Thanks! Rondleman! Stuff I did.Talk. 16:56, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

Two things; Sam hasn't been here since '08, so I doubt you'll get a response. The other thing is that in cases like this, a very very (very) small bit peeking out isn't a big deal. StrongAwesome 17:06, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
Three, it also may depend on the browser what fits and what doesn't. His sig seems to fit to me in IE7. OptimisticFool 06:25, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
