Where art thou?

Phlip, buddy, here in the Eastern hemisphere (i.e.: me) miss you on IRC. Where have you been? I can also see you don't edit as much. Is everything alright? Elcool (talk)(contribs) 06:34, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

End of semester. Uni work == Very Yes. I haven't had the chance to do that much wiki-related of late. I will return, don't worry. --phlip TC 06:37, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
Good luck them on them tests. Just wanted to hear a word from you. :) Elcool (talk)(contribs) 06:39, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
I'm making a visit to all my eastern hemisphere buddies. All my buddies on this side of the earth, let me hear you say, "Hey!" Man, I should probably get dressed or something. What is it, like three in the afternoon? Looking good, CortStar. ...Nah, it's really 2:40 in the morning. I should grab some cinnamon and go to bed. —BazookaJoe 06:42, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
"Hey!". Grabbing some cinnamon? That's not very ladylike. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 06:47, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

Subtitles

I remember you made a way to put subtitles on Flash cartoons. Are those still on any other website? The two they were on both went down. Libertyernie 01:03, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

I probably have it around somewhere... but I'd rather not post it again unless I can get it to work a lot less kludgy-like. And I can't do that until I get Flash (the creator, not the player) working again... --phlip TC 09:15, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

/Archives?!

Your archive template is just /Archives. Since I wanted to know how you made it look so cool, I tried to find the template. I searched /Archives, User: Phlip/Archives, Template: /Archives, and Template: User: Phlip/Archives. Where could it be? — Seriously (Talk) 11:31, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Gyp (theme song)

You asked: "Did you even read..." Maybe you could look at Jay's talk page - then you might be able to figure it out for yourself instead of asking the question in your editlog comment on [theme song]. 198.49.180.40 00:58, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

I have read that, and see nothing to suggest that anything should be changed. As Jay said, "gip" is listed as an accepted variant in at least the American Heritage dictionary. Your own Google link, in just the preview bits from the first few links, I can see "It seems a bit of a stretch to therefore claim "gyp" is a slur." "know that the word ‘gyp’ deriving from ‘gypsy’ is not the least bit a racial slur." "And as you found out, using "gyp" doesn't mean an ethnic slur against gypsies anyway."... and so on. So what is it you claim should be changed? --phlip TC 01:04, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

Stinkoman Cheat version

I would use the forum, but it won't let me join! Anyway, here's the info:

-Whenever I go into the file, full, normal, or non-downloadable, I would not let me play it it's say, "Game not loading" in the bottom corner and still show the loading animation.
-Windows 2000
-IE. Don't know the version.
-When downloaded, Flash 8, but now, Flash 9
-Updated my flash player version
Thanks in advance - Young Roy

Hmm... First off, it probably actually says "Game not playing" in the corner - which is where it puts assorted information when you are actually playing the game. It says "Game not playing" when you're in the menus and such. For the forever-loading problem, I'd suggest checking that you have all the files extracted correctly - You should have at least cheater.swf, stinkogame.swf and objectLibrary.swf in the main folder, with a lot of .xml files in a levelData folder and lots of .swf files (cutscenes and the manual) in an externalSwf folder... if they aren't in these subfolders, or are missing, I think it'll act like you're saying... I'm not certain, it's been a while since I've looked at it... As for not being able to join the forum, ask for help here (you can post there without signing in). --phlip TC

Help

Can you figure out why this transcript isn't loading on the site? It was working fine before. - Joshua 16:15, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

There was a missing '>' on one of the lines... <line start="2031" end="2086"<oldstrongbad> – if you use the "test" thing in the new script, it tells you about stuff like that. --phlip TC 16:44, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Spyware

I seem to have messed up a page and revealed some coding again, which is strange, because it hasn't happened on the past few pages I put discussions on. Unfortunately, I forget what to do to kill spyware. Any ideas? -- Dragoon5464 16:00, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Ad-Aware and Spybot Search&Destroy are the usual tools for fighting a malware infection. They're both free, and they scan the computer in different ways, so they're both handy to use (one may see something the other misses). As for the adware only affecting some of your edits... the way it works is by adding extra code to whatever's in the edit box when you hit "submit". So if you only edit a section, it can only add its crap to that section. If the section is short and doesn't have any of the keywords it wants to try to add links to, it won't do anything. But if you edit an entire page, it'll have more potential places to add links, since there'll be more in the edit box. if you have any problems with either of those tools, feel free to ask me for help... good luck! --phlip TC 16:10, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Javascript frame count

Sorry to bug you, but is it true that there's a javascript thing to see the current frame of a flash file? (Sorry if I don't make sense, I'm a bit confused.) --Color Printer 18:19, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, use this page, as long as you have Mozilla Firefox.--H*Bad 19:59, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
Yes, but you see, I use IE and I'm not switching to Firefox anytime soon, so don't say anything like "Get Firefox!" or something like that. --Color Printer 20:32, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
You don't have to "switch" to get Firefox. You can continue to use IE if you install Firefox for the subtitles. Loafing 20:35, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
By switch, I also mean install. Plus, my dad seems to have disabled me to be able to change the internet security, so I doubt I could even get Firefox to work. --Color Printer 20:40, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
Then I don't believe, to my knowledge, that there is any extension of IE so that you can get the javascript thing.--H*Bad 20:50, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
The changes I made to the seek bar can be backported to the bookmarklet... quite easily, in fact. However, the IE version of the bookmarklet is a massive kludge that I wouldn't touch with a 10m pole... stupid IE and its stupid URL length restrictions... I'll look into it. --phlip TC 00:18, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
Sorry to bother you, but, being the one who suggested asking you in the first place, I was specifically talking about the Javascript property which showed the current frame in the Flash file being displayed. Perhaps you could write a script with a "Pause" button and the current frame number. ¤ The Dang, Pom Pom, you see that? That's a nice golbol. Talk to me. 00:48, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

OK, first, go to http://pastebin.ca/raw/159387 and save that somewhere to your hard drive. Then add a new favorite to your favorites list, with this url:

javascript:(function(){ var s = document.createElement("script"); s.src = "file:///C:/path/to/wherever/you/saved/the/script.js"; s.type="text/javascript"; document.body.appendChild(s); })()

(replacing path/to/wherever/you/saved/the/script with the actual path to wherever you saved the script). That should work... at least, it worked for me. --phlip TC 01:15, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

BTW, your father might be swayed by the advantages of Firefox as a browser. Research it and lay it down for him. It is a great browser. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 02:31, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
Thank you, Phlip! *fhwee!* P.S. I'll take that into consideration, Qermaq. Or wait until I get my own compy. :P --Color Printer 13:12, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

Greasemonkey's so cool

I've dared myself to watch every Homestar toon ever made once again, just for renewing memory. I downloaded your script to do it. I must say, you're pretty darn awesome. But are there any other scripts (preferably related to Homestar) that you happen to know about? Thanks. →Will← 23:52, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

http://userscripts.org/ is a large repository of GM scripts, and I'm sure there are others... I don't know of any other Homestar-related ones (well, I know of two, but I've already incorporated both of them into mine). --phlip TC 03:00, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

Wouldn't it be 3.1.1 rather than 3.11? Wouldn't 3.11 come two after 3.9? — User:ACupOfCoffee@ 03:43, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

When I typed "Version 3.1" my first thought was this... --phlip TC 03:46, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

All In One Subtitle'n Woes

Yesterday was a good day. I made three subtitle contributions across three different toons and they all worked fine. I figured out how to code it, test it... and viewing it was way awesome. You rule.

Today wasn't so good. Today, although I've done nothing to my computer or FireFox or anything. The subtitles quit working. It still says Loading and then it goes away... EVEN though I know there are subtitles for that cartoon. (mine and others I didn't do)

So I thought it was the script. Uninstalled it and reinstalled. Didn't work. I don't know what else to do. It worked fine and now it doesn't. What's up? --Image:Stinkwing.gif »Bleed0range« 05:38, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

Empty your cache, and try again. If it still doesn't work, open the Javascript console (from Firefox's "Tools" menu), and look at the error message at the very bottom. If that doesn't help you, post the error message and the name of the toon here. Loafing 06:24, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
I fixed it. Subtitles:Characters was broken. You might have to clear your cache to make it work for you. Thanks for giving us a heads-up. Loafing 07:39, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

Random logo

I tried to use the JavaScript function Math.floor(random()) for a random logo generator on Stinkoman K's Amazing Stuff Wiki, but it won't work. Could you help? If you do, I'll give you permission to use it in your JS.

Here's the code I used:

/* random logo */
function() {
  var logoURL = document.getElementById('p-logo').getElementsByTagName('a').style.backgroundImage;
  switch(Math.floor(random(2))) {
    case 1: logoURL = "url(http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/2050/amazinglogosd5.png) !important",
    case 2: logoURL = "url(http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/787/amazingstufflogowo3.png) !important"
  }
}

--Y2K (15px-Crystal_Clear_app_xchat.png15px-Crystal_Clear_app_kedit.png15px-Crystal_Clear_app_email.png) 09:38, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Here's a working piece of code:
/* random logo */
function changelogo() {
  var logos = new Array("http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/2050/amazinglogosd5.png", "http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/787/amazingstufflogowo3.png");
  var i = Math.floor(Math.random() * logos.length);
  document.getElementById('p-logo').getElementsByTagName('a')[0].style.setProperty("background-image", "url(" + logos[i] + ")", "important");
}
addOnloadHook(changelogo);
If you're curious, or interested in learning more, I could list the errors in your code, but if you just want something that works... there it is. Note: This snippet of code won't work in IE... and getting it to work in IE is a massive pain, so I don't feel like trying right now (my test wiki currently has a function a good 15-20 lines long, and it's still not working right... most of the problems come from detecting the work done by IEFixes.js and undoing it). --phlip TC 15:12, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

Neither you nor MikeControl appear to be blocked. When you try to edit and get the "you're blocked" message, it should have your IP in the message... tell me that, it's possible that you happen to be using an IP that was previously used for vandalism (if MikeControl and you share a computer, then this is probably the cause – you'd both be hit at the same time). severed limbs

I had made an addition to the Drive-Thru cartoon page siting that the severed leg was another reference to severed limbs. I considered it an inside joke, even though there is no subcategory. I figured there should be one, considering all the references. In the email "cliffhangers," Lappy has a "severed little toe," ie the comma. In "Halloween Potion-ma-jig" Pom Pom pulls out a severed toe to add to Homestar's potion. There's always the many references to Strong Sad's severed head. And, Strong Bad's severed head when he was commenting on the costumes, although I'm not sure which one it was. And Coach Z, at one point, thought he found Biscuitdoughhandsman's severed hand.

I'm not sure if there are any more. Those are the ones I could think of.

I hope this warrants a sub-category. If not, no worries. It was just a thought.
