I've heard your plight and am here to help. In order to put something in italics on the wiki, use a set of quotes. For example to make the word 'might' in your sentence ''italicised'', type <nowiki>''might''</nowiki> (using two sets of apostrophes). Using the HTML tags is generally considered unacceptable, so I fixed it in your sentence for you (hope you don't mind). On a related note, use <nowiki>'''three sets'''</nowiki> to make something '''bold'''. --[[User:DorianGray|DorianGray]]

Apostrophes are only preferred when you ''specifically want emphasis''. When you specifically need italics for, say, the title of some literature like <i>The Picture of Dorian Gray</i> (I '''swear''' that was the first one that popped into my head!), then HTML tags are the way to go. It's something about blind people, screen readers, and the Lynx browser. {{User:ACupOfCoffee/sig}} 17:45, 3 November 2005 (UTC)

I tried doing that before, and it didn't work. When I looked up to see if my page was watched, it turned out that it was, when I swear that I had unwatched it. Oh well, it doesn't look like it'll do this again.

[edit] Italics

I've heard your plight and am here to help. In order to put something in italics on the wiki, use a set of quotes. For example to make the word 'might' in your sentence italicised, type ''might'' (using two sets of apostrophes). Using the HTML tags is generally considered unacceptable, so I fixed it in your sentence for you (hope you don't mind). On a related note, use '''three sets''' to make something bold. --DorianGray

I've figured out how to do it. It's not quotes, but rather apostrophes.

Apostrophes are only preferred when you specifically want emphasis. When you specifically need italics for, say, the title of some literature like The Picture of Dorian Gray (I swear that was the first one that popped into my head!), then HTML tags are the way to go. It's something about blind people, screen readers, and the Lynx browser. — User:ACupOfCoffee@ 17:45, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
