How a wiki works

Hey, welcome to the HRWiki.

Allow me to ramble a bit on how a wiki works.

When you have an idea for a page, or an edit, or any addition to the wiki, you go ahead and be bold and do it. At that moment, it is no longer yours, it belongs to us all. It's a gift, with which we must decide what to do. Aunt Edna's crappy argyle creche went into the trash, and some of the submissions here do as well. But many are workable.

So how do we decide? We look for consensus. That simply means we try to apply the wiki community's opinion at large to the problem. Sometimes there is established consensus, like with 3 appearances needed for a running gag to merit a page. Sometimes there isn't consensus yet, and we need to discuss. And occasionally consensus has changed, and we discuss a lot.

Don't allow any one user to tell you an idea is bad unless he can cite consensus behind it. And even if they do, and you really think it would fit, go for it. The worst thing that can happen is it gats a-deleted. If you never put it up in the first place, it's the same thing, right?

So read the editing help, read the policies and guidelines, and get a feel for how we do business. We're all gonna help you along the way. I know you want to be a contributor, and frankly most 13-year-olds just want to play and have clubs and that's ok, I guess, but I'm happy you want to actually contribute to the knowledge base. Feel free to ask me at any time if you have a question, and I'm sure I speak for all the sysops and other power-users here with that. Show Preview Button

Hi, Homstarstrongbad150. I'm not sure if you already know, but I just want to point out the Show Preview Button. It's just to the right of the Save Page Button when editing. By pressing this, you can see a preview of what the page will look like if you were to save, but not actually saving. By doing a preview, you can find mistakes or correct formatting and not flood Recent Changes and the page's history. Forgetting and having to re-save the page with a minor edit every now and again is normal and ok, but try not to do too many edits to the same page. Remember: I made this message to save you work. Hey, Strong Bad. I mean, Lionel Ritchie. I mean, Homsarstrongbad150. Screenshots are simple. When you're on the screen you want to shoot, hit your printscreen key, then paste it into a picture editor, crop and modify as needed, and then use the upload (in the left column) to put them on the wiki.

Constantly logged out? Did you check the box that says to keep you logged in?

that's exactly the same thing i'm thinking. nobody in our generation watches seinfeld. i even have one friend who hates it, and when he told me that, i think, what are you stupid? nobody hates seinfeld. you're probably the only person in america who hates the show with every fiber of their being. for, like 3 weeks we argued/debated about it.

anyway, i also like the muffin tops, and also, i don't remember which this is from, but anytime soseone sneezes, i say "you are sooo good lookin'", and the finale, it was SOOOOO great! i'm not saying anything because that could totally ruin it for you if you haven't seen it. did you see any of those?

i have seen the junior mints, and everyone who watches the show, no matter how little, has seen the soup nazi. i use that jokingly in real life, too. if my friend is having soup at lunch and says something that could potentially be an insult to me, i say, that's it, no soup for you! then i give it right back of course. it is my friend. you ever done anything like that?

whoops, forgot something else. how did you find me? i thought the only user who knew about me is cornman (yes, sorry, i'm calling you that again) [and sam the man, but he was not nice and is no longer on hrwiki, so he doesn't count.] i watch it all the time, unless i'm on H*R or hrwiki.org. seinfeld is funny, but i like kramer. i actually like him so much, i named my yoshi kramer in TTYD (see my user page) he was so great in seinfeld, i'm surprised michael richards isn't doing something else in acting. like, Julia louis-dreyfus (elaine) is now in her own show on cbs, the new adventures of old christine. i watch that, too, but from what i saw so far, only once has she use something potentially related to seinfeld; giving away a peed-on couch. also, they turned the cusion over.

basically, seinfeld is cool, and damien is stupid!

my sig

hey, cornman, i don't like my current sig so much, and i forgot how to change it. then i figured it out and i still don't even know how to do half of this crap. on top of that, i'd like an image, and have no idea how to get a personal image. so, i really don't wanna deal with this crap. can you make me a new sig? make sure it looks kinda halloweeny for the holiday, like with a punkin picture, then one for the rest of the year, involving a medium colored purple. or just explain what the gibberish on help:signatures is supposed to even mean.

well, michaelXX2, for the halloween one, i want a pumpkin picture next to it on the left(and right, if possible), and the name to be in black on Homsar, strong, orange, bad black, 150 orange, black if 2nd punkin fits. it should be like this if it all fits:

Talk page format

It's really preferred that you indent when replying to a message. This can be done by leading your comment with one or more colons, like so:

One colon indents once

Two colons indent twice

And so on. Also, it would also be nice if you would sign on the same line as the rest of what you're typing, rather than ending with your sig on a separate line as though you're signing a letter. Remember, your talk page contributions are for the good of all the wiki. If they are not, they should not be put on the wiki, but elsewhere. If following the thread of conversation will not help the wiki, the conversation is misplaced. And as a general note, having the decent respect to remember our names is a basic social skill. I currently use Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 and love it. But it costs money. If you want free, I'm afraid I don't have much in the way of suggestions. Some like GIMP and while I'm not one of those some people, maybe you will be. It should at least work to let you simply open your BMP and save it as a PNG, I should think. i don't remember signing twice. i kinda like it. i'll keep it there, but i don't think i'll be allowed to sign twice on any other page. above, there was something cornman said that made me say: i don't care it's MY talk page. does the same go here? double signing? we should discuss this with cornman, acam30 and optimistfool and see how many think it should be allowed, and who doesn't. i'll send them all messages at 3:00 tomorrow, make a new double signing page, and schedule a time for a huge debate with any user who acam, me, you, cornman, sam, and optimistfool van get to join. i'll make it happen...october 18th, saturday, from 11 am to whenever we conclude. email me on friday to remind me. bu saturday, we'll have 100 people voting (hopefully)

True, no U's after the Q's, making it a bit unusual, but surely you can remember that. If not, hey, I just wrote it on your talk page, so you can just look back here. As for "cornman", well, I wouldn't really think it'd be good to call someone by a name like that unless you know they like it. Guys, the purpose of a talk page is communication about this wiki. The purpose of a signature is to say who said what, now. One signature will do that fine; two just clutters up the page. So does not putting your sig on the same line. Also, please, please indent, Homsarstrongbad150. It also makes conversations readable. This conversation is exceedingly hard to read because of the lack of indentation. By the way, this conversation is really degenerating into being completely unhelpful. Homsarstrongbad, could you please read HRWiki:Talk page etiquette and take it to heart? Otherwise, I really think this conversation needs to come to an end about now. Yes, once the indentations have kinda' gone a little too far, you can always "kill the colons". You don't have to indent for EVERY response, but until the replies really start going only a few words before jumping to a new line, please remember to put a new set of colons under another reply or post. Like so:

One more thing: You really need to stop calling Qermaq "cornman". It's just not respectful to call people by names other than their real usernames unless you've been told it's OK or you know they regularly go by it (example, people regularly call me "Heimstern", "Heimi" or "Heim" rather than my full username, and it's fine).
