But I used Systran. I copied the text into the translation field, selected "German→English", and clicked Translate. The result: "If one falls into a barrel without soil, one dies at Hungern." What's up with that?

"Actually" is a bit of a strong word there. Yes, that's what you could get if you made a word for word translation (perhaps from Babelfish), but it isn't a real quote. One phrase in German could be translated a few different ways in English, and you have to find the one that makes sense. Heimstern Läufer

Dot com is assuming good faith here. It's possible that this user just doesn't understand what he or she is doing. If you haven't already heard it, this might be a good time to become acquainted with Hanlon's Razor: "Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity". Of course, if these sockpuppets were vandalizing the wiki, it would be a different story, but as it is, it's good for Dot com to try to find out what this person's up to. Heimstern Läufer

He da, Nikolce! Long time no talk. :-) I've been doing OK, but I've been very busy because the term's ending. You can look at the top of my talk page to find out what the quote means; DorianGray has translated it there. And yeah, "dick" is an adjective in German that just means "thick" (note the similarities between the words) or "fat". (I have no problem with writing that word out because it isn't vulgar in German.) Heimstern Läufer

China is fascinating. In some ways, it's so different from my own Western culture that it boggles my mind. Then in other ways, it's so obviously similar... Well, it's just an amazing place. Characters' names in German

Greetings from a fellow German-speaking HRWiki member! Like you, I'm not a native speaker (I'm Czech and hail from Prague... what's the address for Eastern European SBemails?), but I've been living in Austria for, what is it, six years now?, so I've attained German skills that are pretty close to the natives', even though I do make a mistake from time to time.

I just wanted to comment on your translations of two of the Brothers Strong's names; I think the following might be a bit more suitable:

Strong Bad: Stark Böse (Strong Evil; "böse" is all kinds of evil, from park-litterer-evil (which would rather be called "bad" in English) to world-obliterator-evil)
Strong Mad: Stark Wütend (Strong Angry; guess why)

Heh, "Wütend" is pretty good. I like that one. I admit that I never hear it much, though (is it more popular in Austria than Germany, perhaps?) As for calling SB Stark Böse, well, it certainly works, although I'm not fully convinced that SB counts as evil... I admit I've been calling him Stark Schlecht for a long time now, like, since I was in second-year German. So I'm kind of used to it. So I think I'm keeping it. But thanks for the input. Well, as I said, German speakers use "böse" for all kinds of bad to evil. Prank-calling is enough to earn the "Böse" tag, what with stealing from Homestar, ripping Bubs off (okay, there it's both ways), hurting others (Strong Sad) down to harming with the intention to kill (Homsar). Sure, it sounds pretty heavy if it were transferred into real life, but I think "Böse" hits the nail on the head. As for "zornig", it's pretty good, but it implies that he has a grudge on someone, which is rather a too complicated concept for someone as seemingly simple-minded as Strong Mad. Anyways, you have fun too! Or, as Homsar might put it, "DaAaaAaAaaAa! Ich bin ein Lied aus den Sechzigern!" ~~Ravu 21:57, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Heh, no problem. Things are OK here. School just started up again for me (I wish it were school holidays here). As for what's been up with me: Well, I was in China this summer (if you haven't already seen it, look at my userpage for a picture of me on the Great Wall!), and that was really great.
