Editing others' talk posts and userpages

Hello, Flashfight. It's not our practice to edit others' talk page comments and userpages casually, even to eliminate redlinks. Thanks, and talk atcha later. Heimstern Läufer 00:52, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

Yes, sometimes we use redlinks as placeholders or for other reasons, and in those cases they shouldn't be removed. On the other hand, there's nothing wrong with fixing ones that were made in error. For example, if you want to fix Special:Recent Changes (shouldn't have a space) and Special:contibutions/Orange Star (should have an -r-), then go for it. — It's dot com 00:58, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

Relation

Flashlight, what was that for?! Homestar and Homsar were seen at Bubs' Concession Stand.Katonator3000 06:20, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

But that has nothing to do with their relationship. I personally am seen standing next to possibly dozens of people on the train every day. And likewise that is not any indication of our relationship. — Flashfight 06:23, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
Actually, I quite agree with Flashfight here. Characters appearing together is not indicative of a relationship. This is something I've been saying privately for a while, as I could not find an appropriate place to bring it up. Several other relationship articles suffer from this as well (for example, Marzipan and Homestar talking together in helium. So they're having a conversation. I don't think that's really a relationship reference). And the looking old one even less: they just happen to be waiting in line together. In short, interaction does not necessarily make a relationship. --DorianGray 06:24, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
I disagree. Having been a nerd all my life, I know that any girl who talks to me for more than 5 seconds is secretly in love with me, hence it is a reference. But seriously, naw, that's stupid, and one of these days i intend to purge those pages of anything but actual relationship indicators. — Defender1031*Talk 14:43, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
Wouldn't it be easier just to purge all these relationship articles from our beloved wiki? Or at least most of them? — Flashfight 17:12, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
No. — Defender1031*Talk 19:18, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

About Edit Warring

Hi there Flashfight. I was about to give you a speech about the wrongs of edit warring, regarding the links on TrogdorCon '97 commentary. When getting the links all ready for my post, I just then noticed that you didn't remove the links to the toons, but moved them to their right place. Some people use user talk pages mostly to discuss things that the user did wrong. But sometimes it's also good to comment when things done right. Well, this is one of those times. Good job for settling a minor edit war in the cleanest possible way. Even if you think it's just a minor thing, you did the right thing. Your Sig

Nice job on the sig. I would like to point out, however, that the green medal image in your sig is just slightly too tall. Reducing it to 12px in width or less will make it so it conforms to the policy of 20px (max) in height. Please see Help:Signature#Images for more info. OptimisticFool 05:31, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, I had thought that was going to be a small issue, I'll make sure to change it was quickly as possible. Signing out for the ultimate time with an unregulation sig, I remain Flashfight

Interacting with anonnies and new users

Hi, Flashfight. While I agree that the article boat take is unnecessary and should go (whether by deletion or redirection), your deletion reason and this edit summary were rather impolite. The anonny who wrote this article contributed it in good faith, and it's not nice at all to call such contributions "nonsense" or to say you hate the article (even if you have a good reason not to like it). We need always to make a good impression on new users and treat their good-faith contributions with respect, even if they have problems. Wikpedia's page about not biting new users is good reading on this. Please be more careful what you say about the contributions of others, and remember that we were all once new users who needed improvement. And always remember that sometimes, cleanup and fixing are better than outright deletion, so don't be too quick to tag stuff for speedy deletion. Thanks, and keep on tranglin'.
