Welcome to The Homestar Runner Wiki!

Hello, and welcome to The Homestar Runner Wiki! This is the best place, as you've probably noticed, to learn about anything and everything Homestar Runner. There are a couple of things you should read up on before you really start jumping in and editing -

If you have any questions, ask them up in the HelpDesk or ask JoeyDay, or any other of the sysops or admins ('sysop' is just a special term for someone who watches over the wiki and has a few more rights than other users). I'm sure you'll catch on quickly, and all of the users are very nice here. Feel free to delete this message when you're done reading it, and I hope you stick around and join our team. Have fun! – Pertmywert (Talk·Edits), The Homestar Runner Wiki Welcoming Committee

Wilde Coincidence?

Your name is a reference to The Picture of Dorian Gray, is it not? And furthermore, does that indicate that you identify with the character Dorian Gray, or are you just a fan of the book/movie/story/author? If you are referencing the novel, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it. I'm a big Oscar Wilde fan myself, and I wrote an essay on The Picture of Dorian Gray for Philosophy class, back in June. -Polly 07:47, 3 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Actually, I've been trying to find the novel to read. I only know about Dorian Gray from the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen film. I like reading the background of such things, which is why I want the novel. I haven't yet had an oppurtunity to get to the library yet, and it's never in at the bookstore...
EDIT: I got my mum to check the book out for me instead. All is well. --DorianGray

Sorry for the edit

Ya sorry, that was pretty stupid of me, I just wanted to see if anyone would notice and change it. I promise nothing of the sort will happen again.

That's quite all right. No lasting harm done, and it was all taken care of quickly. Thanks for apologising, though. I hope you enjoy the rest of your time here. ^-^ --DorianGray

Moved examples into list

I hope it's okay, but on Talk:Ice Cream I went ahead and moved your examples into the list itself and put a note on it so others will edit it as they see fit. If you want, repost with your opinion on whether it should be a running gag. — It's dot com 03:48, 11 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Yes, of course it's fine. Anything for the good of the wiki, yeah? --DorianGray

England

Have a good trip! Never mind the bullocks! — It's dot com 03:30, 16 Aug 2005 (UTC)

England, huh? That's quite the trip you're taking. Hope it's a good one. We'll try to keep the wiki afloat during your absence, but it will be tough. Have a good time. —BazookaJoe 03:30, 16 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Away Message Song

I'll be away in England for the next three weeks, y'all. Sorry. To make up for my not being here to help the Wiki, I offer you this away message song. Yes, it's the same 'Believe It Or Not' song that Homestar and George Costanza have sung to before.

Believe it or not,
I'm away from the comp,
So leave a message just for me.
I must be out, or I'd IM you back.
Where could I be?
Believe it or not, you're alone!

Please, hold your applause. --DorianGray

Well, Seany-sama, how was England? If you're from Pennsylvania, how come you spell favorite "favourite"? I'm from Texas, one of your other favou—I mean, favorite places. — It's dot com 22:28, 5 Sep 2005 (UTC)
I spell everything the English way coz, well, coz I'm so hung up on England. Originally, though, it was a side effect from visiting Neopets and it's just stuck with me. And all those other reasons about it actually being the real and correct spelling and all. And as for England itself... Well, to tell the truth, it's not so different from here, except for the television programmes, when you get right down to it. But, despite being faintly similar, it was a total blast.
Did you go to the tower, or the abbey, or the palace? Did you ride the Eye? The last time I was there, I got to drive a car by myself through the cities and highways of Scotland. That was fun, and not just a little weird being on the wrong side of the road. — It's dot com 23:57, 5 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Me, I didn't really do much of anything a normal tourist does. I went up to stay with my friend, who I met a couple years ago online. We've been planning this forever. I stayed at her house up in Nottingham, so most of the sights I saw were generally A) really cool and loud, 2) around the general Nottingham area, and D) more "fun" than "historic" or "tourist-y". My mum and sister did the whole bus-tour thing throughout England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, and even nipped down to France for a day, though. But I was more content to stay with my best friend than go sightseeing.

Sound Effects

I think it's great you're spearheading this project. Look at the formatting changes I just made (putting each table cell on a new line and a space after the align=center part). I think that makes the code easier to read. Also, be sure to link every instance in the last column. A user shouldn't have to search up and down the list for a link. — It's dot com 17:31, 14 Sep 2005 (UTC)

All right. Thanks for the advice (and the help). And I just like making lists. I have tons of similar lists on my computer (none are H*R related, though). --DorianGray

Secret

Yes, it does. I was wondering if someone would see that. you win. --— talk Bubsty edits 20:41, 25 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Synonyms

Um, have you been known to collect synonyms? I saw that in your entry. --The 386 00:31, 4 Oct 2005 (UTC)

For some things. Synonyms are useful if you write a lot. That way, you don't come off as boring by repeating yourself. --DorianGray

So, we all know that. But do you REALLY do that for a livin'? --The 386 00:33, 4 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Currently, I don't do anything for a living. I do it as more of a hobby. --DorianGray

Hobbies

I see. Why is that your hobby? --The 386 00:36, 4 Oct 2005 (UTC)

I think 'coz I'm weird like that' works best here. Anyway, I have a lot of hobbies, some of which I take more seriously. Some, like my synonym collections, are just for fun. --DorianGray

I think you're right. If you want, you can tell me about synonyms in my talk page. --The 386 00:39, 4 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Well, aside from all those ones for regurgitation, I only collect synonyms for 'crazy'. You can see them all here. --DorianGray

I remember learning that in school. But don't you want to tell me about it in my talk page? --The 386 00:57, 4 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Well, I figure we're already here... Would you like me to move the discussion, then? --DorianGray

Uh, no. Just leave it here. --The 386 01:05, 4 Oct 2005 (UTC)

All right then. Maybe we can continue some other time on your page. But for now, I'm gonna go... Place. --DorianGray

Okay then. I'll try to log on tomorrow. But till then, I'm outta here! --The 386 01:13, 4 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Note

You asked for a note encouraging you to do that work on the Videlectrix games. I have left such a note here. See also the bit about the music. Thanks for being willing to do this. — It's dot com 05:05, 17 October 2005 (UTC)

Willing, yes... Unfortunately, by the time I got here, it seems someone already added all the music links (although I was able to make a few minor corrections). As to the other bit... D'you want me to just include a new "Official Videlectrix Description" section in each game, or what? --DorianGray 16:55, 17 October 2005 (UTC)
Oh, whatever you think is best. — It's dot com 17:26, 17 October 2005 (UTC)
Looks like someone beat me to the punch there, too. I did get to do some minor formatting, though... Ah, well. Next time, I won't get 12 hours sleep before starting a project. --DorianGray

Thank You

Thanks, Dorian. I didn't even notice it happened. — Lapper (talk) 17:11, 17 October 2005 (UTC)

You're welcome. Any time. Just remember: CONSTANT VIGILANCE. (And if you know that quote, you get a cookie.) --DorianGray

Yeah! Thanks, dude. First time someone trolled my page :) Elcool (talk)(contribs) 17:21, 17 October 2005 (UTC)

First time someone trolled my page too. But then, I was reverting all his edits, so it was to be expected. --DorianGray
I know that quote. Its from Harry Potter book 4, from Mad-Eye Moody. (Cookie please?) — talk Bubsty edits 05:30, 11 December 2005 (UTC)
*gives Bubsty a cookie* Right in one. =) Noice work, Clanky. --DorianGray

Bottommost vote

Hey Dorian. This is a reminder that only your bottommost accept vote counts in STUFF. The one from the upper voting section has been removed. Please review this and make any changes if necessary. Thanks. (And thanks for voting for my revision. :) ) — It's dot com 03:02, 20 October 2005 (UTC)

Oh, okay. I didn't know that. First time voting for a revision... Keep it the way it is, with the vote at the revised version. --DorianGray
As it turns out, I was persuaded that the revision was wrong, so I split the second half of it into its own item. You should review it an make a new vote accordingly. Sorry for all the confusion. — It's dot com 15:49, 20 October 2005 (UTC)
Oy. Complication upon complication, eh? And it seems such a simple fact... So, in essence, I voted the same way you did for both facts. Thanks for the heads-up. --DorianGray
Yeah, how did it become such a mess? ;) One last thing (and I'm really not trying to bother you with all this)... Would you like to fix your vote in the archive? If so, then please do so. Just put a note in the edit summary to see your talk page. Or I could fix it for you. — It's dot com 17:17, 20 October 2005 (UTC)
Yes, please fix it for me. No one will question it if it comes from you, I've noticed. =3 --DorianGray
I swear this is the last time I'll post on this subject on your talk page. After studying the evidence a little closer, it seems the drawing of Uncle Sam didn't come about until the 1830s. So I changed my vote to the revision. (Not that you have to vote the same way I do, but since we've been through it together this far, I thought it would only be polite for me to let you know I'd switched again. But I'm not switching any more... I hope.) — It's dot com 15:04, 21 October 2005 (UTC)
Thanks. I didn't realize that. Johnny Baby 15:47, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

Hmm.. I thought I checked that

Must not have notice he was already blocked. (I really did check—honest!) — User:ACupOfCoffee@ 04:49, 26 October 2005 (UTC)

Oh, I believe you. Sometimes it's easy to glance over a name. I've done that sort of thing many times in my day. Nice catch anyway, though. --DorianGray

I wouldn't put anything in that yellow man's mouth!

Yes, your memory of a decision not to transliterate The Cheat Talk is correct: see HRWiki talk:Standards#Standardize "The Cheat Noises". —AbdiViklas 21:33, 6 November 2005 (UTC)

Ah, thanks... I can never find that when I want it. And I wonder if that urban legend about a dog's mouth being cleaner than our own even applies to yellow ones. --DorianGray

DorianGray was one of several users assiduously reverting the tsunami of edits of an IP-shifting troll-bot the night of November 11th 2005. For your heroism, this barnstar seems a small token. And your new Viking name will be DorianGray TrollBane. —AbdiViklas 08:00, 12 November 2005 (UTC)
Many congraturations!!! (Hey Wilbur, mind if I eat the last one?) — talk Bubsty edits 16:30, 12 November 2005 (UTC)
Woo! Thanks, guys. Glad to help out. I just did what anyone with the best interest of the wiki at heart would do. --DorianGray
P.S. Yeah, Bubsty, go ahead. I was just gonna put it at the end of my new card game anyway.

Yeah...sorry about that.

About the Star Wars intro on haircut, I was really tired when I heard that. The "Da Da Da Dear" sounded like the opening notes of the Star Wars main theme to me, at the time. Now it just sounds...not like that.

Anyway, sorry. ---Jeff J. W.(Talk·Contribs)hr.png

No problem. I can see how one might think that, but it's really kind of... not that. No need to be sorry. That's the way the wiki works, yeah? --DorianGray
Oh, come on. A Holiday Greeting most likely to be reverted? It doesn't sound like Chriiiii(st) to you? Listen to it one more time just to make sure. If you don't hear it though, I understand. Or did you revert it because you thought I was being in appropriate? Either way, I understand.

Sorry again. ---Jeff J. W.(Talk·Contribs)hr.png

Yeah, I'm thinkin' more of who it would offend rather than what it sounds like. The page has a history of that revert, and I was just following what AbdiViklas put last time I remember it being reverted (right down to the edit comment). Maybe we could take it to the talk page. --DorianGray
Understandable, but we didn't write/say/direct this. I thought we were here to report and act as a reference. I know it will offend a few people, but we're just supposed to state the facts, aren't we? Maybe it deserves a vote.
---Jeff J. W.(Talk·Contribs)hr.png

quote?

As you might have noticed, I have a new quote thingy on my user page. Do you have a quote you can/want to use? Just keep it under PG-13. — talk Bubsty edits 19:02, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
You came to the right guy, then. ^-^ I have a lot of quotes I use all the time... Let's see... How about this one: "Don't put off until tomorrow what you can put off until the day after tomorrow." --DorianGray
That is the first time I hear that saying in English. It's far more common in Hebrew. ("Al tidkh'e lemakhar ma she'ata yakhol lidkhot lemakhrataim") Elcool (talk)(contribs) 19:39, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
Really? That's neat... --DorianGray
Thanks. I'm usin that. — talk Bubsty edits 21:23, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

award'd

So... for being a cool person, (and for being the first person to notice my guestbook), you get the thank you award.
Thanks! — talk Bubsty edits 03:29, 2 December 2005 (UTC)
The thank you award presented to DorianGray
Thank you, and you're welcome. ^-^ And a very merry Decemberween to you too. --DorianGray
Sorry, to keep posting, but I have one more thing. After counting every single e-mail password reminder I got, (which took a long time), I found out that I got 4992 password reminders. Maybe next time Dorian... — talk Bubsty edits 03:45, 2 December 2005 (UTC)
Aw, man. Although I hope there isn't a next time... Ah, well. I'll go change mine to second place. Or "one of the most". Or something like that. --DorianGray

New Format

Hey DorianGrey. I was wondering, did you bring up your new format unto Standards? Try to clear it up with them before you implement new formats. Rogue Leader / (my talk) 00:03, 3 December 2005 (UTC)

Well, actually... It was discussed a lot under one of the Running Gags (I forget which), and was then applied to several other pages. I just was bored and thus decided to take the next step. If I was out of order, sorry. It was discussed with users I respect a lot, so I figured it wasn't too bad. --DorianGray
If you discussed it, it isn't out of order. Most people didn't like italics, though. Rogue Leader / (my talk) 00:13, 3 December 2005 (UTC)
Well, we liked italics better than the <small> tags, I think. --DorianGray

Awww, that's the sweetest guestbook signature!

Thanks! :) — Image:kskunk_fstandby.gif KieferSkunk (talk) — 21:53, 5 December 2005 (UTC)

Any time. Coz it's true. If I had a list of favourite users, you'd be on it. --DorianGray
Really? How come? — Image:kskunk_fstandby.gif KieferSkunk (talk) — 21:58, 5 December 2005 (UTC)
I think it has to do with how you always get those OGGs for the debated wordstyles. That's pretty awesome. I mean, if I could do that, I'd be all the time making my own QOTWs. --DorianGray
Check out Goldwave (if you're a Windows user). It's what I use - all you gotta be able to do is record from your "What U Hear" or "Wave Out Mix" on your soundcard's mixer. STill, thanks. :) — Image:kskunk_fstandby.gif KieferSkunk (talk) — 22:02, 5 December 2005 (UTC)
Wow, that seems complicated. --DorianGray
It's a relatively simple and yet full-featured sound editor - personally, I think it's just as good as a more expensive package like Sound Forge. Give it a try. :) — Image:kskunk_fstandby.gif KieferSkunk (talk) — 22:16, 5 December 2005 (UTC)
All right, but what do I click on? Is it free? --DorianGray
On the main page, click on "Goldwave 5.12 is Available", then in the Download Links section, click on one of the links to download the program. It's shareware, and it will start prompting you to register it after a month (I think). It's something like $40 to register (or at least it was when I registered it, which was some time back). — Image:kskunk_fstandby.gif KieferSkunk (talk) — 22:26, 5 December 2005 (UTC)
Ooy. I dun care for shareware... Not if it's gonna prompt me for cash. --DorianGray
If you can't afford the money-cost variety, might I recommend Audacity. Or even if you can! This is the best of both worlds: it's free, and it's really high-quality non-crap. I mean, the digital music labs at both Eastman School of Music and UNC have it on their computers. Plus it's open source so it's good karma. —AbdiViklas 05:46, 11 December 2005 (UTC)
Actually, I already have Audacity. Smileyface pointed me in such a direction, when the .OGGs were being added to my pride and joy. --DorianGray

Nonsense con Carne

Hey man! what's up? I didn't even realize until now I had blatantly ... um borrowed, your nonsense incarnate line. My my, no wonder I was coming up with such "great ideas". --Stux 21:33, 10 December 2005 (UTC)

Great minds think alike? Or it could simply be that "nonsense incarnate" is simply such a great description of everyone's favourite blue midget Homestar. I, in turn, can say I got it from his character page's opening lines.
To be honest, I hadn't even noticed. But thanks for giving credit to me anyways. --DorianGray

theres water on mars!

I just saw this: PROOF THAT THERES WATER ON MARS! — talk Bubsty edits 05:07, 11 December 2005 (UTC)
Yeah, there is. =3 Mars has polar ice caps. *checked the link before you even sent it* ;) --DorianGray
Aw crap. — talk Bubsty edits 05:10, 11 December 2005 (UTC)
...Bubsty. For one; what is the point of this outburst? And two; plenty of people have known for as long as I can remember that there is water on the moon. Except that it's frozen. So... Ice. There is icecaps on Mars indeed. Homestramy20|Talk 05:11, 11 December 2005 (UTC)

edit conflict x3 yeah, its just a joke homestramy. — talk Bubsty edits 05:21, 11 December 2005 (UTC)
I got it. I just commented with "...", because I couldn't believe how spaced of me to not realise that I shouldn't stick my nose into everything. :) Homestramy20|Talk 05:29, 11 December 2005 (UTC)
I stick my nose into everything... see! Okay, I gotta go study for my test tommorrow. --Stux 21:50, 12 December 2005 (UTC)

How could I forget?

In answer to your question of how I could forget to link Dot com's name correctly: actually, I forget that sort of thing all the time. I can be pretty absent-minded, especially when I'm thinking about otheer things, like a project that I'm working on. So, thanks for catching that one for me! I probably wouldn't have for quite some time. Heimstern Läufer 03:13, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

No problem. Maybe I'll watch it particularly, just in case it happens again. Or maybe he should just have a main namespace redirect. I mean, he's cool enough. ;) --DorianGray

Trollage

Wow. First troll in a while. What a waste of one of the few chances to troll nowadays. The least he could have done is waited until the dark of night, and then moved a million pages here there and everywhere... In any case, thanks for the revert. Thunderbird 21:18, 19 December 2005 (UTC)

That's what I'm here for... And it was a pretty sad attempt, truth be told. If I was a troll--which I am not, never was, never will be--I'd make something special of it, since the chance is rare, like you said. (Hopefully, we're not giving anyone any ideas. Although, my talk page and user page are rarely looked at, so there should be no problem.) --DorianGray
Oh, and just for the record, we actually had a similar incident of vandalism only about a week ago, when someone decided to blank portions of Homestar Runner (a similarly feeble effort, quickly reverted). So it actually hasn't been all that long. Heimstern Läufer 21:30, 19 December 2005 (UTC)
Haha, yea, I saw that one. I think it was Jay that got him. But the block log has been pretty sparce as of late, there's only been like a dozen blocks (3 or 4 because of trolls) since NSMC. I feel kinda special to have been able to block one of the few trolls in the past while. And yeah DorianGray, you gotta watch for 'em. Take it from someone who once was one - Trolls are a sly bunch. Thunderbird 21:34, 19 December 2005 (UTC) DorianGray's mother was a hampster, and his father smelled of elderberries!
Oh, yeah... That one totally slipped my mind. Shows how pathetic it truly was, yeah? And not all are such a sly bunch, yeah? --DorianGray (I use the word "yeah?" too much, don't I?)
Actully, it was PFloyedPotter who did the blanking, and *ahem* I reverted it. — talk Bubsty edits 21:57, 19 December 2005 (UTC)
Funny, that's not quite how I remember it... nor how the history of that page remembers it... Heimstern Läufer 21:59, 19 December 2005 (UTC)

I was seeing how you made the unnofficial QOTW, and saw it. — talk Bubsty edits 02:50, 25 December 2005 (UTC)
Peekin' at the secret inner workings of my page, eh? =3 Well, that's why I have it. Speaking of my QOTW, I should make some more of those... I only have enough to last 'til, like, February. --DorianGray
I'd like to take credit for having found the list minutes after it was created. Not exactly hard, though, since I was patrolling the recent changes at the time. But I decided not to mention it, since you said it was a secret. I guess not no more! Heimstern Läufer 02:59, 28 December 2005 (UTC)
And I thanked you for it on the IRC chnnel, so that counts too. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 06:29, 28 December 2005 (UTC)

Reverts

I would like to help out the site. Can you tell me how a revert works? Marth 99

Sure I can! When a page has been trolled or had a bad edit made, the simplest way to change it back is to revert it. Each page has a history of every edit made to it, see. Up at the top, you'll notice a little tab marked "history" (it's the fourth from the left, usually). Click on that and it'll bring up a page of all the edits made to that page, most recent ones on the top. Find the version you want to change it back to and click the date for that version. This will bring that version up in the window for editing. Just type "reverted" or "rv" (or "rv/v" for vandalism) ito the edit summary box beneath it and hit "save page". And that will correct the whole page! I hope that helps. If not, check out the Help pages for more information. --DorianGray

Danke

Thanks for reverting my user page from that vandal. That's a first for me, getting vandalised. Heimstern Läufer 00:19, 2 January 2006 (UTC)

Well, I certainly wasn't going to just leave it, yeah? Oddly, I've reverted several people's first trollings. --DorianGray
Sure, I knew you wouldn't just leave it, but I thought I'd still thank you. I suppose with my revert-happy trigger finger I'm probably getting vandals mad at me by now and it was sure someone would come after me. Great way to celebrate the new year, don't you think? Heimstern Läufer 05:14, 2 January 2006 (UTC)
Happens all the time. If you check the Contribs of trolls who vandalise userpages, I bet most will have another edit that was reverted by the same person whose page they ruined. I know this coz it's happened to me several times. It's nice to get back in the trenches again, though, isn't it? --DorianGray
That's what I'd always thought about that (I remember one vandal who wrote an obscene message about Thesmokingmonkey after he made a revert). Which I find interesting, since I'd never reverted anything by this guy. He seems to have been nothing but a troublemaker: he just want after me and Has Matt? for no obvious reason. But I had always figured it would happen someday. And yes, it's good to be back in the trenches. I love reverting crappy edits again! Heimstern Läufer 05:33, 2 January 2006 (UTC)

Happy New Year!

I know it's a little late, I just wanted to wish you a happy new year, and may you finally beat Stinkoam 20X6! Elcool (talk)(contribs) 10:20, 2 January 2006 (UTC)

Thankies. And I'm getting pretty good at the -0 levels... I can get to somewhere 'round the middle of -0.2 (I think that's the one). --DorianGray
Happy also late new year! — talk Bubsty edits 03:28, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
And the same to you, my friend! ^-^ --DorianGray

Happy very, very, very, very, very, very, very, etc. with the verys, late New Year.LePorello / T / C 02:15, 10 January 2006 (UTC) P. S. I'll help you with Stinkoman 20X6 if you need it. I'm just a click (cool click sound) away. (Though I'm not on the Wiki as often as I would like. Booooooo.)

Ten days. That's very very. — talk Bubsty edits 02:19, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
Better late than never I always say. =D And my main problem with Stinkoman (aside from how small the life bar is, but that can't be helped) is that I have a slow response time. It's like, "Hey, that thing shot me. I'd better move in case it does it again." --DorianGray

Drawing of Darth Katana X

Yo, Dorian. I was wondering if you would draw a picture of Darth Katana X for my profile. I see by your guestbook entry and your deletion of AbdiViklas' note on John Reuben that you've seen my profile. You can read up on my Sith Apprentice there, if you haven't already.

He looks like Inuyasha dressed like Darth Vader, but he's only wearing Vader's headgear. And he has a big, glowing Katana Sword. So, would you mind drawing that? Because that'd totally rock - thanks one million! Darth Katana X (discussionitem_icon.gif user.gif mail_icon.gif)

I'd be totally willing to give it a try, although I can't promise top quality. But I shall still try! DorianGray never backs down from a challenge, believe it! I'll get on that first chance I have. --DorianGray

Awesome! Thank you! Supashi-bo! Darth Katana X (discussionitem_icon.gif user.gif mail_icon.gif)

And now it is complete. You can see the pic on DeviantART, complete with my comments, here. If you want to direct link to it, it's also on PhotoBucket. Feel free to copy and resize as you see fit. --DorianGray

That is so cool! Thanks so much for taking the time to draw my character. I'm-a post that on my user page. Darth Katana X (discussionitem_icon.gif user.gif mail_icon.gif)

Oh, any time. Glad to to it. Also glad you like it. --DorianGray

Yay! You've won the Platypus award! Congradgulationsingtonish! This award is really for you're help with my userpage, finding most of the Homsar quotes. Enjoy!Image:platypusaward.jpg

Ooh, many mahalos. I was glad to do it. And if you need any help again in the future, don't hesitate to give me a ring. --DorianGray

Ha ha ha!

Your Quote of the Week with Homestar saying he doesn't wear Marzipan's skirts anymore was hilarious! Keep it up, man! Nintendostar_Runner

Yeah, I liked that one. I should get to work collecting more. I only have enough to last for February... --DorianGray

MLS QOD

Hey DG, how'd you get the Old-School Homestar for your newest quote? LePorello / T / C 14:39, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

I actually took a screen shot from... personal favourites, I think. I cropped out everything but his head, and rotated, resized, and/or flipped it 'til it was layered perfectly over a normal Quote of the Week box with the current Homestar in it. And there it was: one old-school Homestar quote. However, since my editing software is now kaput, I can't do any more specialised quotes like that. Ah, well. --DorianGray
What do you mean kaput? --Stux 18:36, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
It won't load anymore. Click it, nothing happens. Also, since all PNGs are saved to open directly from that program, now if you wish to open a PNG, you have to right click and find "Open With..." and open it with something like Picture and Fax Viewer or Paint. --DorianGray

Ironic that he would vandalize a former vandal's userpage. With crap, Yeltensic (T C) 22:58, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
Ah, yes. Who knows, though, maybe you'll get to revert him. Then he'll be reverted by a former vandal, and that's almost poetic, I think. --DorianGray

Why did you remove my picture from the halloweener page? You gotta give me some credit. I'm a full wiki member, and I don't deserve to have my image deleted. Also, if you think it's ugly, keep it to yourself. Sorry, but I don't find this very respectful. Chess Cheese

It's not relevant because tons of people do fanart of all sorts of toons all the time. That doesn't make it necessary to mention in an encyclopedic knowledge-base. It's nothing against you. Anyone's would be deleted. --DorianGray

Well, this is a big slap in the face to art. Chess Cheese

Sorry, but that's how things are. Maybe you should check out our Fanstuff Wiki...? That's the creative companion to this wiki. --DorianGray

Squeaketycoo

On the other hand, can we hold up just a sec on the unsqueaking? I think there are a few times when it's okay. After all, Strong Bad does call "a little yellow squeaky thing". Specifically, if he makes a single noise, like "Meh!", that isn't exactly a scream, then I think that could best be called a squeak. It's more wieldy than THE CHEAT: {makes a The Cheat noise}. Also this seems like a good candidate for squeaking: the intent is to say he "sings along," but what the Cheat does can't really be called singing. About the best thing it can be called, then, is squeaking. —AbdiViklas 17:23, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

Well, there's pretty much nothing left to correct anyways, so I can definitely hold up for a while. =3 Fix whatever you like; I guess there ARE some times when it's okay, like you said. --DorianGray
Cool. I think I'll just revert a few on the basis of wieldiness. For the record, the original crusade was to correct instances where people had tried to transliterate The Cheat noises into our alphabet. If you see any of that still around, a small train needs to be dropped. At least a caboose. —AbdiViklas 17:28, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
I always look out for those. I think that's actually referred to a few entries earlier up my talk page. Along with putting words in his mouth. Always watch out for those, I do... --DorianGray

Hi, Dorian!

Hi Dorian, I saw you wondered about my name. Well--in short--I made it up. It's basically the name I use everywhere, unless it's more formal (in which case I use the long form, Katori), or in the rare case where there's something better (like Coach Z on BHZ's forum ;)). I made it up a few years ago. Occassionally I use it in stories as well. :) Nice to meet you!! --Kato

Countervandalism

Prepare to feel the fluoride sting of the DorianGray!

Hey Dorian:

I wanted to let you know that you are one of the best countervandals I've ever known. Before I was a sysop, I remember how often the two of us were working together to stop a persistent vandal. Since I became a sysop, I find myself blocking vandals after being alerted by your reverts.

You've already received the Defender of the Wiki barnstar for revering NSMC, but I felt it was time for you to get a little more recognition: not for one act of countervandalism, but for a long history of defending this wiki. I'm leaving you this image to let you know you'll always be a colonel in the Homestarmy in my mind. Keep up the good fight, man. Constant vigilance! Heimstern Läufer 21:10, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

Nah, I jus' misread the move log entry and thought he'd moved my page, so I hit the revert. Then realised that was the entry for privileges I'd just done. So I had to re-revert it. Happens to the best of us sometimes... --DorianGray

Copyright category

Hey Dorian. It looks like you found a good category for that category. Just so you know, those templates are some advance work I'm doing in preparation for our switch to MediaWiki 1.6. — It's dot com 01:07, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, I wasn't planning to tag anything with them. Although, I do have a question. Is there anything you'd tag my personal image with? It's art a friend of mine drew, so it really doesn't fit anything that I know of... Also the one I drew for Darth Katana X. Anything you'd class those under? I've been wondering for a while now... --DorianGray
I think the path of least resistance would be to slap a {{permission}} tag on 'em. I should point out that there are others with way more experience than I when it comes to image copyright tags, so you might could get a better answer. — It's dot com 05:20, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
I'll put that on 'em, then, unless/until someone else finds something better. --DorianGray
Well, unless your friend specifically agrees to release the rights to the picture, {{permission}} is the most appropriate template. There's basically 3 types of image tag:
1) The owner says we can use it ({{permission}})
II) The owner says anyone can use it ({{gfdl}}, the Creative Commons licenses, etc)
C) The owner hasn't said we can use it, but we're using it anyway under Fair Use ({{web-screenshot}} et al)
(plus the tags that say "we really shouldn't be using this", like {{no license}}). This image is clearly under group 1, (unless your friend wants to move it into II). --phlip TC 05:36, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
I can ask her. Right now, even. --DorianGray
She says she'd prefer it left as {{permission}}. So that's all good then. --DorianGray

Sorry

I don't think I said this or not, but you know when I created those sockpuppets on here? Well if you do then I am sorry for trying to trick people into thinking that I wasn't making them. Do you forgive me?--H*Bad 21:00, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

Apology accepted. =) The important thing is that you learned from your mistake, right? Not gonna do it again, yeah? =) That's what really matters. We can be quite forgiving 'round here, I think. --DorianGray
Unless your name has NSMC or ON WHEELS in it. And yes I did learn my lesson.--H*Bad 21:50, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
That's true. We don't have much forgiveness for those guys. They don't learn, or try to reform. Unlike you, eh? Good luck to you, and all your wiki...ing. --DorianGray

Wiki

How do you say Wiki?--H*Bad 21:56, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

Some say "wick-ey", some say "wee-kee". I say the former. (See wiki at Wikipedia.) — It's dot com 21:59, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
Me personally? I say it "wee-kee". It's from the Hawaiian wikiwiki, which means "quick" (refers to how easy it is to edit on here). So I use the pronounciation that's directly from the Hawaiian root, mostly due to my slight obsession with Hawaii. However, for some reason, I pronounce "Wikipedia" as "wick-i-pee-dee-a". --DorianGray
I say it the same way. Which is why I was wondering. Thanks again.--H*Bad 22:03, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
Any time. Always glad to help, if I can. --DorianGray
"Wee-kee-pedia" is really hard to say... Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 22:08, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

Due to a certain locational obsession I have, I've occasionally pronounced it "vee-kee". :-) But not usually. Heimstern Läufer 22:38, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
Here's a fascinating piece of trivia for you: Mike pronounces it "wick-ey" (cf. animal DVD commentary). — It's dot com 23:18, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
That is neat. =) Cool to know, as I have no DVD access myself. --DorianGray
Aw Hebrew don't have a letter for the W sound, some of my friends say it like Viki. I usually switch back and forth from W to V, depends who I'm talking to. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 05:27, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
Then there's always the less common "Why-Kai" (Sounds like Wi-Fi). Though I don't usually use it, it still sounds pretty cool. Thunderbird 05:51, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
That, of course, leads to the question "Why not Kai?" (Feel free to choose any other Kai you like, too.) --DorianGray

Senior Prom, I Am The Walrus edit

Oh, sorry. I thought my computer messed up, so I added it again. And by the way, iTunes Listed the song 'I Am the Walrus' under styx. Check if you have it.

Sorry, I don't. Maybe they remade it...? (*should look that up*) But it was originally performed by The Beatles. No harm done, though. Catch you later. =) --DorianGray
Have a look at Wikipedia:I Am The Walrus#Cultural references, in particular the "cover versions" bit. I'm guessing the version on iTunes is the Styx cover, rather than the Beatles original. If I remember correctly, there was issues between the Apple that owns iTunes and the Apple that owns the Beatles songs... so for a long time there were no Beatles songs on iTunes... I dunno if it was ever resolved. --phlip TC 12:37, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Homsar's Speech

Hey Dorian. :) Just wanted to thank you for the flowers you sent me while I was in the hospital help on my Homsar's Speech project! Seems like we're almost done, and so far I've only found two, maybe three things he's ever said that are genuine word salads. — Image:kskunk_fstandby.gif KieferSkunk (talk) — 22:17, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

Oh, any time. It was fun, as Homsar is quite th' character... And now I have, like, most of his line memorised, I think. I really like seeing the analyses of each line... He's more coherent than I originally thought. o_o --DorianGray
Sure seems to be. I think this project conclusively proves that Homsar is actually pretty "with it" - just random in the way he communicates with others. Once the project is done, I'm wondering if we should make this an actual article that we can then point to from the main Homsar article or its Talk page... or otherwise include the analysis on the Talk page, or something. It's useful data that can help to define and refute the "word salad" assertion on both Homsar's page and the Wikipedia page. — Image:kskunk_fstandby.gif KieferSkunk (talk) — 22:32, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, I really like it... Quite an interesting article. Sheds new light on a beloved wacky character. And Homsar is now reminding me of a character of my own, who also speaks in an unusual way (example: she uses the word "circle" instead of "family"). --DorianGray

Thanks for the Memo

Yeah, I'm sorry about he mishap. Yes, it was me who was editing my page. I'm sorry for the confusion, and I've set it to auto log-in from now on so it does not happen again. Thanks again, Omegalord

No problem. I have mine set like that myself. Hope we didn't set you back too much with our reverts. --DorianGray

Dinosaurs and Genus

A "genus" is one single level up from "species", so saying that dinosaurs are their own genus is not only not true (there is more than one genus of Dinosaur - quite a few, in fact!) but also not relevant - They are part of the Sauropsid class, which is the class containing all reptiles (it also happens to include birds.) --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 05:03, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

Glad I didn't miss this by too much. I'm at my aunt and uncle's house and they only have dial-up, so I've been a bit scarce at the wiki lately. Well, I've been wondering for awhile when this was coming. ;-) Clearly my position as the new sysop with the most block log entries is in danger. I've no doubt you'll be ready to give those vandals some serious p0wnage. Now more than ever before, "Constant vigilance!" Heimstern Läufer 17:42, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

Trying to make this Userbox work

Hi there, I was just wondering if you could help me (or know who could). I made a new userbox for my userpage which uses a random Homsar quote. I tried to add it to the Userbox page and it won't work because of the template inside a template format, the homsarquote template I mean. It works ON my user page and outside of the <userboxsampes> tag, just not inside of it. Any idea how to make that work? --Image:Stinkwing.gif »Bleed0range« 21:05, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Hmm, I dunno much myself, but I'll certainly ask around. I know a few people who might be able to help, maybe. I's not much good with coding and stuff myself. *sweatdrop* Let you know once they get on, or something. --DorianGray
Have a look at this example in the sandbox [2]Loafing 21:20, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks Loafing, but I think you misunderstand the problem. It will work inside that. Look at my userpage and you will see what I made. It's making it work inside the <userboxsample> tag on the Userbox page. The page with the preview and code next to it? It won't work in there for some reason.--Image:Stinkwing.gif »Bleed0range« 21:38, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
Oh, I see now. That looks like a bug in userboxsamples. It's dot com would be the guy to fix that. Loafing 07:48, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
Anybody out there know if this Homsar Quote thing will work on the Userbox page? .... anybody--Image:Stinkwing.gif »Bleed0range« 07:29, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

Great minds

Would you believe that I was attempting to add that "See also" thing at the same time as you and got Edit Conflict'd? And I believe it was last seen in big white face. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 17:52, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Wow, great minds do have similar thought processes, or however the saying goes. =3 big white face seems right, but I may have been thinking of another (can't remember where, though. I think it was a game, maybe). --DorianGray

Oops...

Sorry. I was the one who made that "Kick The Cheat" edit on the "Twin Characters" section. Thanks for correcting me! (I completely forgot about artistic licence)! Just wanted to let you know I appreciate the help, and I'll consider that factor next time!... 4kai2lyn6...

No problem. That edit, and many similar ones, all used to be there until very recently, when we started to rethink the page. Sometimes it's just hard to tell. --DorianGray

Quotes

Everything I've ever read or seen said that even if only one word of a quote was being used that punctuation should be in the quote. Hehehe, you must have some very convincing arguments. =3 --DorianGray

Huh?

You said "This really can't be proven, seems speculative, not the full H'ween toon, and it's a real shirt." about my edit. Can you explain further? I thnk TBC put that there for people to ponder it? Can you please put it back? --TheYellowDart(t/c)

It's speculation to assume TBC put it there for people to ponder, because we don't know what they were thinking. We run a knowledge base, based in fact, not assumption. It was not the full, official Halloween toon for that year, and they probably didn't use Homestar's costume for spoiler reasons. To round it out, Homestar's shirt is a real shirt, generally used by people too lazy to wear a real costume (like people who answer the door for trick-or-treaters, for example). Those are the reasons I took it out. --DorianGray

Help out

  • Hey, I'm thinking about creating a new page, but I don't know what to call it and I don't know all of its info. The page will be about interuppted names Strong Bad usually starts sounding out before getting interrupted by someone. Such as in bottom 10: He says, "and the number one spot in my bottom 10 is... Th--" and then gets interrupted. Please help out. I am sending this to all sysops. --TheYellowDart(t/c)

About Hrjogger's vote, I assumed he wanted to vote in the only valid voting revision, since he put his vote on the old one, even though the new one has been made. Does ths make sense? TheYellowDart(t/c)

Just because a revision has been made doesn't make the original vote not valid. --DorianGray
It doesn't? Then which revision gets the final verdict? Both of them can't. TheYellowDart(t/c)
I'd guess whichever has a better accept-to-decline ratio (if it gets accepted). --DorianGray

DorianGray:

No need to be a jerk, dude. "Ugh?" "Not at all aesthetically pleasing?" Give me a break. That's an exaggeration -- especially since it's a matter of your personal taste -- and regardless of your preferences, the harsh words are completely unnecessary.

I guess you don't want people to constructively contribute if you're going to behave like that.

No offense meant. It's just that strong stylistic changes like this should be brought before the community and discussed beforehand, before any changes go into effect. Mebbe I was a little harsh, but it really does look bad. It doesn't fit at all. --DorianGray

Hey Dorian,

I just wanted to let you know that the podstar links need to be piped instead of spaced, otherwise the link will be broken! I'd fix all occurrences myself, but I have this big project to turn in for tommorrow, and I can't procrastinate any more than I have! :) --Stux 02:13, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

quite certain he says "oh my lan"

Considering that Renold says before hand: "Get your hands off those floppy disks and fiscal reports" it would suggest he says oh my lan. oh my land isn't even a saying.

For the sake of argument, I recorded the part he said and played it over, there is no audio wave that suggests him saying "d" after lan.

http://fileupload.ning.com/mov/3771583

"Oh my land" still makes more sense than "LAN", but whatever. I don't feel strongly enough about it to argue. --DorianGray 04:44, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Sure you can use it. You don't even need to credit me or anything (after all, it's just a table and a picture--which are mine!). If you'd like to know how to do some XML editing of your own, Venusy has a tutorial on it--that's how I learned, even. Removing my post

Thanks for removing my post for no reason except that you thought I should "take it to the forum". Tape Leg's wiki page has a note saying that some think it's the worst episode. I mentioned that perhaps "Rough Copy" was, which would carry a similar note if their was a concensus. You had no reason to remove my post, but hey - if you want to be a jerk about a Homestar Runner wiki TALK page, that's your problem. -- Someguyerson

Such information does belong on the forum, not on the wiki. And please don't be rude to other editors. Thanks. Loafing 23:49, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
Hey there. DorianGray was acting perfectly within policy. Comments on talk pages concerning personal opinions of the toons are routinely removed for exactly the reason Dorian provided — they don't concern the content of the article. Now, tape leg is an exception, because the issue is actually addressed by Strong Bad. So, I understand why you consider your talk page post to be legitimate, but DorianGray actually did the right thing.
Regardless, your personal attacks of DorianGray were completely uncalled for. If you disagree with a user's actions, it is simple to say so in a civil way without insulting them. Please refrain from doing this in the future to avoid having your editing privileges restricted. Trey56 23:49, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Pokémon Help

Eggs

Hello buddy! Is it possible in FireRed/LeafGreen to hatch more than one egg? I already hatched one egg from the day-care on Four Island, but I can't hatch anymore from there. Is there any other way to hatch an egg? Johnny Ohm Talk ???03:17, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

Oh, sure. There's tons of compatible eggs. You just have to leave two Pokémon of the same Egg group at the day care. (Ditto is a good way to get around this.) And then wait until an Egg appears. Is that helpful, or do you need more info? Have any other breeding questions? --DorianGray 03:50, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
Well, uhh... I knew about the Ditto thing where you put a pokemon with Ditto at the day care and you get an egg with the pokemon you put with ditto, but can you do it again? I want an egg with another Zapdos. Johnny Ohm Talk ???19:34, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
That's the problem, then. You can hatch as many eggs as you want, but the one-of-a-kind Pokémon like Zapdos, Mewtwo, Mew, Lugia, Celebi, etc. can't be bred at all. 76.5.105.107 19:40, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
Oh, Zapdos can't breed. It's in the No Eggs group. Generally, all legendary Pokémon, all baby Pokémon (Pichu, Magby, Elekid, and so on), and a few others (Unown, Nidoran (F), and Nidorina) can't breed. They're too special. If you want another Zapdos, you'll have to trade it from another game. Sorry. --DorianGray 19:42, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
But can you get more than one egg from the day care? If yes, how? Johnny Ohm Talk ???19:57, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
They'll give you eggs your Pokémon produce whenever they produce them. Just leave two compatible Pokémon, and go off and do something else. Come back in a while, and maybe they've produced an egg. If you leave Ditto and another breedable Pokémon, you're guaranteed to get an egg sooner or later. You just have to go somewhere else and walk around a bit. --DorianGray 20:00, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

Unowns

Hi, do you know anything about the Unown pokemon in the Tanoby Ruins? Before the chambers had nothing at all in them, no pokemon, nothing. Then I found the Tanoby key, activated it and there were unown pokemon in the chambers! Each unown is exactly the same, except for the body shape, and at the front of one chamber, a guy says a mystic pokemon lives in the chamber. Some of my friends say all the unowns are the shape of each letter of the alphabet and if you catch all of them to create the alphabet, the mystic pokemon will appear in the chamber(s). Do you know anything about the mystic pokemon, the unowns or the chambers? If so, please tell me, thanks. Johnny Ohm Talk ???19:39, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

The mystic Pokémon the guy is referring to is probably the Unown themselves. Unown are pretty fascinating. They do match up to the alphabet: one Unown for each of the 26 letters, as well as one each for ? and !. I haven't yet been able to find Unown ? or ! in Tanoby (they're really rare). The only thing you get for collecting all 28 Unown is the satisfaction of knowing you have them all, though. --DorianGray 19:43, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
Do you know anything about the legendary dogs? Because I heard after defeating the elite four (I defeated it 3 times), outside of Cerulean cave a legendary dog will appear and the type will depend on which starter pokemon you picked. I picked Squirtle so my dog should be the thunder dog. Do you know anything about it? Johnny Ohm Talk ???19:48, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
Yes, that's true. Depending on your starter, one of the Legendary Beasts will appear in Kanto: Raikou for Squirtle, Entei for Bulbasaur, and Suicune for Charmander. They're extremely hard to catch, though. They move around between routes, so you have to use your Pokédex to track them down (only once you find it in the first place, though). Then, if you're lucky enough to be in the same place at the same time, you'll encounter it randomly in the tall grass. It runs at the start of the battle, so putting it to sleep or using Mean Look will help keep it there long enough to wear it down and catch it. If you do manage to catch it, it's a very powerful Pokémon, so treat it well. =) --DorianGray 04:59, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
Well, I found the Raikou last night looking for meowths and I found it and it fled. I looked in the pokedex to find where it was, I ran into it, had my wobbuffet first with the shadow tag ability. The Raikou couldn't escape because of shadow tag, but it used roar and escaped. Then because it was very late, I turned it off and then today when I played it, I went to Raikou's pokedex entry to find it's location and it said "area unknown". Do you know how I'm supposed to confront it again and if yes, how do I catch it if it either runs away or uses roar? Johnny Ohm Talk ???15:58, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
Hmm. Dunno why it's not appearing in the Pokédex locator. Catching one of the beasts is usually mostly luck, and a big pain in the rear. I saved my Master Ball for Entei just coz I hate catching the roaming Pokémon. I could do a li'l research, see if there's anything that has, like, both Suction Cups and Mean Look (Ingrain and Spider Web?) or something. I don't know many counters for Roar... --DorianGray 19:05, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

eevee

Hi, do you know how to get Eevee? I heard you get it in the Celadon Mansion, but how do you get it? Johnny Ohm Talk ???23:21, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

You just go around the back of the building. There's a back entrance that leads to a room on the roof. Eevee is up there. You probably need to have only 5 Pokémon in your party, too, so you have room to take it. --DorianGray 23:26, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
Heh, want to know something funny? I got to Celadon a really long time ago and got Eevee a long time ago, so today I looked everywhere and I was just confused, and I looked in the PC and I found the Eevee! Funny, eh? Oh and you said Entei, so you probably picked Mr. Venus. I don't really like Venusy, I don't think it's very good. I like Blasty the best, which is why I picked it. Johnny Ohm Talk ???02:52, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
I picked Bulbasaur because, way back in Blue version, Bulbasaur was my first Pokémon. I wanted to carry the tradition.
Neat how you found th' Eevee. I love a good story like that. --DorianGray 02:54, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
I The reason I picked Squirtle is because I tried all the starters and thought Squirtle was the best. Also because everybody picks Charizard, so if they breed their Charizard, they would maybe trade me something for their Charmander. One of my friends who picked Bulbasaur traded for one of my Squirtle's so he could easily take out his rival's Charmy. Johnny Ohm Talk ???14:04, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
Oh, yeah, I hope in Diamond you didn't pick Turtwig. It sucks. I picked Piplup because it's best and Infernape is so-so. Johnny Ohm Talk ???23:07, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
I picked Turtwig in Diamond because it was the least ugly of all the starters. And Torterra is pretty beastly, actually. --DorianGray 04:42, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
Wha?!?! You picked Turtwig? Least ugly? I actually think Turtwig is the most ugly. Heh. Well, at least Torterra doesn't suck like Venusaur. I always pick water types except in Emerald because it is the only Pokemon in Gen. III that knows Leaf Blade. I bet if we battled, my Empoleon would whip your Torterra because it is Jolly so I'd go first and use Ice Beam which does 4x damage! Muohahaha!!!!! But my friend who always picks grass types, his best attack is Razor Leaf even with his lv. 100 Venusaur! Johnny Ohm Talk ??? 22:15, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
Razor Leaf is actually a pretty decent move. Nice damage level, good hit percentage, lots of HP, and the possibility of a critical hit. --DorianGray 22:20, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
Naw, Razor Leaf sucks. 55 power. The only good thing is it has a high chance of doing a critical hit. It's not even 100% accurate. Well, 95 is still good accuracy, but Razor Leaf sucks.
55 is actually pretty decent for a mid-level attack with no drawbacks. --DorianGray 22:27, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
55 actually isn't good. Flamethrower or Thunderbolt is 100% accurate, 95 power and has no recoil and can burn or paralyze, so Razor Leaf... is no good. Johnny Ohm Talk ??? 22:32, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
Oh, you like stories, don't you? Well, this might make you laugh. You can only get one Master Ball in the game right? Well, you want to save it for the legendary dog, but it's okay if you use it on Articuno or MewTwo or maybe Zapdos or Moltres. Well, my friend really wanted Articuno because he didn't save infront of the other legendary birds. So he took out Zapdos and Moltres, so Articuno was the only one left. That bird is so hard to catch, so if you don't have like a million ultra balls, chances are you won't catch it, so I used my master ball on it. Well, my friend used his master ball on a level 14 Onix then released his Onix. Then he found Articuno and it escaped all of his balls, s he kept on resetting and he did that about 20 times and finally gave up. This was about a month ago, and the Articuno is still standing there, so I can't wait for the Mewtwo! Johnny Ohm Talk ???14:14, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
Heh. Your friend has some bad luck. --DorianGray 18:32, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
Oh, yeah, he caught Mewtwo and when he was trying, when he threw a ball, he went on his hands and knees and was dragging his knees across the carpet going "PLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASE CATCH!!!" and actually started crying, everyone there thought he was just weird so we laughed, and when he caught Mewtwo, he screamed "YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!". So, yeah, it was hard for him without da Master Ball. But we all thought that was very weird how he cried. Johnny Ohm Talk ???23:07, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
Heh. I am amused. Lucky him, though. Non-Master Ball catches can be terrible. --DorianGray 04:42, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi Dorian! I was wondering...how did you manage to use my image and remove the arrow so quickly? It appears to be the same frame, but you might have just replaced it with a new one and kept the name. Also, you might want to archive some of this page, it's a bit long. Stay Cool.--~ SlipStream 06:57, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

A long talk page is the coolest. =3
I'm just quite quick. It also helps that it was early in the toon. One thing to note: don't crop a picture for a toon's main image. Use the whole spread. (Although you should crop out the black borders.) --DorianGray 07:01, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Forgot

Hey Dorian, I forgot how to make a new user page. How? --Homsar Lover

To get a userpage, first you need to create an account. --DorianGray 01:33, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
I think this is actually Homsar Lover. I think I remember seeing a conversation about him forgetting his password or something. Homestar-Winner (talk) 01:35, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
Here it is. Homestar-Winner (talk) 01:37, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

U.S. grammar for U.S. toon

Regarding this edit: where are our standards listed, and why should they be diffrent from proper U.S. grammar? It is based on a U.S. toon, after all.--.Johnny Jupiter! talk cont 22:22, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Regardless, it is never okay to vandalise, no matter what the reason is. Try leaving a politely-worded message on the talk page next time. It's a popular article; I guarantee that someone will take notice of it.
The wiki is also not an instantaneous messager service. Sometimes it takes a while for people to respond. Patience is a virtue, and good things come to those who wait. --DorianGray 19:58, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Sure. I c'n do dat. Though all you'd have to do is wait about a day for your account to be confirmed, and then you could do it yourself. --DorianGray 02:36, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Possible vandal report.

Ok, for a while, I'd suspected that "MichaelXX2" is actually the same "MikeTigershark" that was banned twice already given the similar nature of his confusing and often irrelevant edits, and one of his recent edits where he links to a nonexistant "facebook.com" page seems to confirm that, as his second "sockpuppet" account did the same thing. I suspect the admins have already figured this, but I thought I'd give you a heads up, anyhow. (Seeing as you're the last admin to have reverted one of his edits...) -YKHi. peacey p /y'all

Sorry, I just rewatched it and saw that it was spelled that way, but you got there before I could undo it. I really hate that misspelling but I guess it should match the toon.

Personally, I agree with you, but I think the written work should come before personal preference (otherwise I'd go around changing all Strong Bad's old "woah"s and "alright"s =3 ). --DorianGray 04:13, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

I don't mind "woah" because it is a reasonable phonetic version of how some people say it (can't remember if Strong Bad does though). Totally with you on "alright." I hate that one too. But I agree with you that the wiki should match the toon. --24.124.71.66 13:32, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

Hurtful comments

Hello, DorianGray, I happened to receive word that you were talking complete trash about me at IRC. A sysop should be more mature. As quoted:

[11:06:56] <DorianGray_> "Philiet" was a lot closer than "Philippe".

[11:08:13] <DorianGray_> In the future, we should require that you actually OWN the DVD that you're trying to transcribe. =3

[11:08:34] <SysRq868> How very encouraging of you all.

[11:08:59] <SysRq868> I'm sure MichaelXX2 is very pleased to know that of all of his efforts, you can only spot his mistakes, as if you never made any.

[11:09:48] <OptimisticFool> He's so far from TBC's generation, he just can't possibly get the references..

[11:10:38] <OptimisticFool> Anyway, I'm putting together some fun facts now.. so don't give me no edit conflicts, please..

[11:10:59] <DorianGray_> You'd think he'd at least get the Tiny Toons ref, as we have a fun fact on it.

[11:11:11] <OptimisticFool> Sagatoad..

[11:11:13] <OptimisticFool> Hahahahaha

[11:13:45] <OptimisticFool> He had Ryan saying, "My wife Jackie" ... =]

[11:14:41] <DorianGray_> Won't she be surprised.

In closing, it hurt. A lot. I hope you know that I am a person like everyone else on this wiki, and I'm sure you've made a whole messload of mistakes before you got to this point. MichaelXX2 mail_icon.gif link_icon.gif 22:04, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

I don't know if I should applaud you or scratch my head, but well played, sir. --I slayed the Kerrek. Be careful, or you're next. 07:44, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

Do both, if you can manage it. =3 Thank ye very much. I picked The King of Town because, of all the main characters, only he, Pom Pom, and Strong Mad hadn't been in a Fan Costumes toon yet (now it's only Pom Pom). The King's physique seemed easiest to make a costume of, so I went with him. And now you know... the rest of the story. --DorianGray 07:51, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
Well said, Paul Harvey. (I might do a Pom Pom costume...lord knows I've got the physique...) --I slayed the Kerrek. Be careful, or you're next. 17:32, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
I can't help but notice that you seem to have a lot of condiments in your refrigerator. Are they supposed to be props for the photo, or are you just a big fan of hot dogs and burgers and such? – The Chort 12:53, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

you're on fan costumes. nice going, dorry! wait, that nickname implies a girl. i won't use it anymore. either way, they thought your costume was so cool/sucked so bad (really can't tell by the comment) to get it on costumes 08.  :) /me thinks it's the coolest thing ever!

About my revert of your edit...

For some reason, I thought you'd removed a line and so I reverted your edit, but you'd added it. Bit of a brain freeze, there - whoops. --Belthazar 09:07, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Dangeresque 3 Goofs

On the Dangeresque 3 page, you wrote under goofs: "In extended play, several scenes involving Renaldo will replay without his being there."

I'm confused as to which scenes you mean. So far as I can see, the only scenes which involve Renaldo in extended play (besides the Sun) are specifically stated to be bloopers or out-takes from the making of the movie, meaning his absence in the present scene is no hinderance to him being there in the response sequences. If that makes any sense. It's also implied on a number of occasions that Coach Z is holding the camera in many shots without Renaldo, so hearing his voice in those shots is also not a goof. --Belthazar 12:46, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

Obtaining the Diet Brown, for instance. I also recall a scene in the Secret Lab (the specifics of which I forget), which cuts to a shot of Renaldo, who is there during the normal game, but not during extended play. As if he's invisible. --DorianGray 13:01, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
Ah, I see - if you give the Diet Brown to Experimento in extended play, the original squence plays, but with invisio-Renaldo. That, however, is the only one I've been able to find. Unless your version is different, taking the Diet Brown the second time only results in Strong Bad delivering the first line and taking the can straight away. I haven't seen any other ghostly appearences from Renaldo... --Belthazar 20:20, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
I was fairly certain there was another in the office... Myabe I'll look around again. --DorianGray 20:22, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
I can confirm this, if that means anything to you. I have also seen this happen. Homestar-Winner (talk) 03:15, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

"Is" vs "is"

The game doesn't captialise the i in is - it's "8-Bit is Enough". Nor, for that matter, does our own 8-Bit is Enough page. It's only whoever first created the links to the Responses pages that capitalised the I. So do we want to stick with how they do it in-game, or (since there's now more pages with a capital I} just capitalise them all for consistency? --Belthazar 22:06, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Personally, I prefer the uncapitalised version. I only moved the two responses pages to the capital version because it was easier than moving all the others. If you wanna un-move 'em and move all the others, that's fine with me. --DorianGray 22:10, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Hee hee, that made me chuckle. Rya is... well, she's just Rya, there's no way to describe her. On a related note, didn't there use to be a Bonus Stage wiki? Whatever happened to that? —Guard Duck talk 05:26, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
There was indeed a Bonus Stage Wiki for a while. I was a sysop there too. After Bonus Stage ended, it became a Couch Slave Wiki for a little while. Then Matt Wilson asked the owner to shut it down. He complied, the wiki died, everyone cried. --DorianGray 05:30, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Ah, what a shame. Good thing the Brothers Chaps are extremely disorganized and rely on us for archiving basically everything they ever make. It's nice to be depended on :-) —Guard Duck talk 06:08, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, the Chaps love the HRWiki, while Matt Wilson found the BSWiki creepy and obsessive (including a jab at us in one episode, even). Which, of course, we were, but that's the point, isn't it? --DorianGray 06:11, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Was the jab in the last episode? I only remember the wiki being mentioned once, in episode 88. Homestar-Winner (talk) 11:57, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Nah, the jab was in an earlier episode, The Terror From Beyond Imageshack.
PHIL: Well, I guess that's all of them. Except for the Bonus Stage Wiki guy.
BONUS STAGE WIKI GUY: {typing rapidly on a computer} And here Phil is referring to the Bonus Stage Wiki. Or he may be referring to the Korean MMORPG Wiki, which was canned because its graphics were eerily similar to Zelda. Happy birthday, Phil!
A jab mostly at the wiki's tendency to pull obscure references out of nowhere. Not unlike ours here. =3 --DorianGray 20:59, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Stub vs. Incomplete

I don't exactly understand the distinction, particularly in list-based articles. Can you explain a bit more? -132.183.151.140 21:12, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

A stub is an article that is incomplete on a temporary basis. There is only a finite amount of information available. Most articles would get this template. An incomplete list is an article that is incomplete on a semi-permanent basis. As long as toons are continuing to be made, there is something to add each time a new toon is made. Examples include Sound Effects (since repeated sounds are used in nearly every toon) and Fonts (since there are new and reused fonts in many toons). An article or section marked as a stub is only a stub for as long as there is information to be added. As soon as all the available information is included, it's no longer a stub, and the template is removed. If new information is obtained (e.g. new or expanded appearances), it's added to the appearances list (and possibly the description, if the appearance is of note), and that's that. Most secondary characters, places, and items are like this. On an incomplete list, the template is never removed (unless TBC permanently retire forever and never do another toon or game or whatever ever again). It stays because each further toon expands the list. Bad Graphics Ghost's typically stay static until he appears in another toon, but a new or reused font appears nearly every week. An incomplete article is, by its very nature, never complete. A stub can be expanded only so far before one can say "Okay, we have no more information. Maybe some more will turn up next week, or maybe next year. But until then, this article is complete."
In short, stubs are temporary, incompletes are pretty much permanent. --DorianGray 03:41, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

Spam

What should I do if I've found a spammer? Like, mark their userpage or talk page for deletion? cash money tc 02:38, 4 October 2009 (UTC)

That'd probably be the best idea, yes. Feel free to also use this userspace to ask me to look into it, if you like. --DorianGray 03:19, 4 October 2009 (UTC)

erweenga

Why can't it redirect to the toon it's from?

I deleted it because it was lowercase. I assumed (wrongly) that the capitalised version already redirected somewhere. Sorry about that. --DorianGray 04:36, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

THANKYOU

Thank you for deleting the unneeded redirect that I left behind from moving another redirect! I didn't like that there was a double redirect. --FangoriouslyFotoshopStar.png 03:03, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

No probalo. Double redirects don't matter now, actually; the system handles them automatically. I mainly deleted it for redundancy: the system also automatically redirects lowercase and capitals to the same place. You'll notice that the link is still blue, not red, in the deletion log because of this. --DorianGray 03:53, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
Just saw this here...is it easy to break this redirect system for articles like marzipan instead of Marzipan, and homsar, etc.? I remember once i asked about the url fhqwhgads.html, if fhqwhgads should redirect to Everybody to the Limit instead of the capitalized article title like most urls do. I didn't do that then b/c i wasn't sure i wanted to break the redirect system. The Knights Who Say Ni 16:48, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

almost four years ago, you put in an entry on Qermaq's seen or heard once page and spelled your name wrong. was that intentional? The Knights Who Say Ni 07:29, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

Probably not. That was back in the days when I used to type it out by hand instead of using tildes (you can see my name with no timestamp on some old talk pages). That's probably the only time I messed up, though. --DorianGray 07:33, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

About a page of mine you deleted...

(finally got around to doing this) I understand your reasoning for deleting User talk:173.171.53.193 and I am of course not mad or anything, I just wish to let you know that my router really hasen't ever changed IP, and if it did, I would either fix it to the right one, or simply request that it be deleted. With this reasoning, should I recreate it, or do you want it to stay deleted? (P.S. I would have done an email to you, but the x10 mailer daemon returned it with an error when I tried.) LikeLakers2 14:06, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

I'm a little confused here. Why do you want to keep your IP talk page? Why not use this one? --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 17:08, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
A couple of points:
Just wanted to let you know. LikeLakers2 21:23, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
Ah, I get it now. Yeah, you can't count on your IP address always being the same, so redirecting is kinda pointless. Just make sure you're signed in when you edit and it won't even matter. (And you'll know when you're not signed in, because it'll make you read the CAPTCHA with every edit.) --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 00:06, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

Didn't know

I actually was more used to WikiPedia's rules, and I didn't know that you kept talk pages for reference. There is a thing I wish to notify you about along with this, though, just incase you are wondering:

  • Those user talk pages I edited, well, I was looking in the currently blocked IP's and users special page, with temp blocks hidden, mind you, and I happened to find some blocked users with their talk pages still there. Note that I did not look through the whole blocked list, just a small part of it. If you're wondering what I added to them, it was the delete template with the reason "talk page of an infinitely blocked user" that I added.

I also have a quick question: If someone created a wiki page that was later deleted, but the talk page of said page was left there, would the creator of that page be able to request that the talk page be deleted? Thanks, have a merry christmas, LikeLakers2 13:44, 9 December 2010 (UTC).

At HRWiki, we don't have an exact equivalent to the Articles for Deletion pages at Wikipedia in the project space; instead, we just handle deletion discussions on talk pages. This makes it important to keep talk pages of deleted articles to preserve the discussion, just as Wikipedia retains AfD pages after the article is deleted. It's true, we do often delete talk pages of indefinitely blocked vandalism- or spam-only accounts, as I just did. But it's not really required to do so, so in the future, it's probably not worth your time to bother tagging any more of them, just so you know. Keep on tranglin'.
