Welcome!

Hey, Defender1031, welcome to the Homestar Runner Wiki! We can always use new registered users around here, so I'm glad you're on. A word of warning, though: Before you do any major editing, you'll want to read up on our editing standards. And if this is the first MediaWiki based wiki (or first wiki) you've used check out the MediaWiki User's Guide, or for quick reference, our Help:Editing page. If you have any questions that aren't answered on our FAQ, post them on its talk page, or you can ask me directly. Most people here are pretty good about assuming stupidity [read: ignorance] rather than malice One last thing — always sign posts on talk pages with this: ~~~~ (it's an automatic signature and timestamp). — User:ACupOfCoffee@ 06:22, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

Its O.K Dan, I'm just new. I'd like to become your friend. Sam the Man 15:11, 3/9/07

Not getting the first time

Regarding this edit summary, no, the anonny may not have any idea why his or her edit disappeared, since new users aren't always aware of the list of recent changes and article histories. Incidentally, there is currently an item in STUFF that discusses what to do with links to portmanteaus. It looks like a version with a link to the page (but which does not explain the joke) is going to win out. Talk atcha later. — It's dot com 23:42, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Fine, thanks for the clarification. DeFender1031 00:02, 16 March 2007 (UTC) P.S. I'm having a bit of trouble learning to have patience for anonnies and newbies. I realize this, I apologize, and I will try harder to keep my patience in the future.

Userbox

What's up? Well, I just noticed, your page doesn't have a userbox. I recomend that you might want to have one. It can explain a lot about you. And they're fun too. Just a friendly notice from User talk:Sam the Man Sam the Man

Happy now? DeFender1031 00:40, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Hey Dude.

Hi there. I tired to add this to the Senor Cardgage page.

Comparisons can be drawn between Senor Cardgage and real life furniture salesman Mark Norton known for his odd ball late night television advertisements. Usually seen between the hours of 1 and 3 A.M. on the Cleveland FOX affiliate which broadcasts into the Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, And South Eastern Ontario regions.

And you seem to have taken it down... I apologize if what I added was in any way problematic, I realize I had used some incorrect punctuation and as such was about to fix that when then I noticed the original edit had been taken down. I mostly wanted to highlight the Indiana connection with the Chaps and the possibility that the commercials might have been an influence on the character since they did reside in Indiana for a time. They (the commercials) are now available on You Tube and this has already been the topic of some speculation. Hope I haven’t inconvenienced you in any way. Cheers. Steve.

I removed it because I felt that such a comparison was TTATOT. DeFender1031 05:54, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Tis true but you might want to check the comercial out before you say that... I Remeber when I first saw one in 2004 it was pretty much the first thing that jumped to mind. Beware what lies within is not for the faint of heart...

Hey there, Taproots85, and welcome to the wiki! I can see the similarity between Senor Cardgage and that guy (though I'm not sure it's intended). Actually, somebody started a discussion about this here — that would be a good place to discuss it, and if there's consensus in favor of the fact, it can then be added to the article. Welcome again! Trey56 06:09, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

thanks Trey, love the monicker by the way though I'm more of a Fish man. (no pun intended)

You're the first one I've come across who knows what my name is referring to :) Trey56 06:16, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
Why is all of this going on on MY talk page? DeFender1031 06:18, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
Sorry about that — I was considering moving some of it, but I couldn't think of how to divide it up so that both parts made sense. Okay, we're done :) Laters, Trey56 06:19, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Yo

You need a signature. It's cool. It's just a suggestion and you don't have to do it. User talk:Sam the Man Sam the Man

Da Iron Cup Award!

Hey, Defender1031. I saw you've been making tons of good edits, like creating Showering and Sugar. So, I wanted to award you (drumroll...) THE IRON CUP OF BRUNSWICK STEW.

This award, the first on HRWiki, is given to recognize good contributions and to let people know that their hard work is seen and appreciated. It was given to The Cheat by Strong Bad for his good work on New Boots.

Keep up the awesome work, Defender1031! User talk:Sam the Man Sam the Man 21:19, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Edit summaries

I'd like to ask you to consider taking a softer tone in your edit summaries. This, for example, is really biting an annonies (you may want to see this 'Kipedia page. Even the latter part of this could be handled better with something like "I don't think we need a link to 'corporation'". Remember, someone went to the trouble of writing that link; saying "What the crap?" doesn't really help, even if it is indeed unnecessary. What you're trying to get across can almost always be expressed with a softer tone and is actually typically more effective in driving it home. Heimstern Läufer 02:07, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

You make a good point. I'll try to be a bit gentler. DeFender1031 02:09, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism in the sandbox

No such thing, Stu. No such thing. — User:ACupOfCoffee@ 05:52, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

I know. It was a joke. DeFender1031 10:33, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
You did it again. Please don't use "rv vandalism" in an edit summary for fun. You can be sure that it will cause at least one sysop to check the reverted edit to see if a warning or a block is in order. It's kinda like crying wolf. Loafing 01:01, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
I apologize. I didn't think of that consequence when i did it. You can be assured it won't happen again. (PS. I think that quick sand pic should be a permanent part of the sandbox.) Sorry for entrangling you, DeFender1031 01:04, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
No probalo. Now go to bed!!!11!!!one! Loafing 01:08, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Geez whiz, kid

  • Well, I am just going to put this out bluntly for you: it is fine for this ([1]) to be here. It is not revealing any spoiler. It is just simply an explanation of "WTF", so quit starting revert wars, aight? I know the undo button looks fun, but, sewiously, the explanation is fine. Best, --TheYellowDart(t/c) 02:02, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Removing facts

Hey there DeFender, I was wondering which facts' removal you were referring to here — you sounded a little upset in the edit summary. Thanks, Trey56 00:37, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

well, actually... (blushes)... I read the history wrong, and those facts that were moved... I uh, kinda thought they had gotten deleted... and umm... went back to a previous revision and reverted from there, so i didn't actually touch the facts... and umm... sports team? DeFender1031 00:40, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
Okay, no prob — just checking. I guess that's a good reason to keep edit summaries civil :) Thanks, Trey56 00:44, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
Well, i am getting better with the whole edit summaries thing, aren't I? DeFender1031 00:46, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
Oh, I can't say I've been following them that closely; I just noticed that section on your talk page and thought it seemed timely to link to it just as a friendly reminder. But looking through your last X0 contributions, they look fine. Nevertheless, let me take this opportunity to mention that I appreciate your efforts at reverting poor edits; you do a great job of helping keep the wiki tidy! Trey56 00:51, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
Hooray! I'm helping! DeFender1031 00:53, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Periods inside of quotation marks

Hi Dan, Thanks for your suggestion, but periods (and commas) always go inside of quotation marks. Check out this grammar site: http://www.grammarbook.com/punctuation/quotes.asp Jonathan Fellow H*R fan

According to THAT standard. Not ours. Ours is more intuative. Btw, thanks for calling me "Dan". It's nice to see that some people care enough to take the time to read a bit about who it is they're talking to. Also, please sign your posts with four tildas "~~~~". it leaves your signature and a link to your page, and lets people know who wrote what. Now get back to that tranglin'! DeFender1031 15:30, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Huh? I'm not sure what you mean by "our" standard (and since I'm a spelling nerd, it's "intuitive"). I also don't get the 4 tilda thing. What does it do?

WHAT????!@#$%^&*()

sorry... Anyway.. It's not part of the email? -- Lazylaces Talk 19:28, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Super Mario Sunshine Reference

Hey, can you possibly PM me on the forums what the SMS reference is that would cause an edit war? --CX360 21:52, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

take a day off

I'm honored you "stole" my shomer shabbat userbox and gave it such a seat of kavod right up in the number two spot. TheDude 02:19, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Editing another's user page

A user flooding recent changes is certainly annoying, but it's not against any rule. Replacing an entire legitimate user page, on the other hand, is a blockable offense. I realize you had good intentions, but please don't do that. (We could probably also do without the thinly veiled swear on his talk page.) Thanks. — It's dot com 01:37, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Thinly veiled swear? What are you talking about exactly? I don't swear. DeFender1031 01:39, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
I was referring to "for the love of G-d and everything holy". — It's dot com 02:08, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
Oh, i don't see that as a swear. I'm sorry if you do and i've offended you. DeFender1031 10:13, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
Wow, if god was a swear word, you must hate church! -- CX360 21:44, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
On the contrary, trivially invoking the names of deities is the original meaning of swearing, and it's out of respect for those things that it's discouraged. Trey56 21:49, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
Still, CX's post is one of the funniest things i've seen today. DeFender1031 21:50, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
