The 2009-2011 hiatus

The Hiatus

The "original" reason for the 2009-2011 hiatus.
So popular lately.

During 2010, after the April Fools' Day toon Xeriouxly Forxe came out (itself the first major update in nearly five months), barely any material was produced on the website. Most of the articles presented on the main page were Store offers. This may be because of a new baby in the family, as noted on the FeedBurner page, and the possibility they were busy working on a different project. For the first time in the site's history, no Halloween cartoon was produced in 2010. After over seven months of no updates, on November 22, Poker Night at the Inventory was released. On December 14, 2010, A Decemberween Mackerel was released, temporarily ending the hiatus. This was shortly followed by Which Ween Costumes? on December 22. Following the holiday break into the new year, the site was back on hiatus, though Puppet Strong Bad did appear at an Aquabats concert in January. There have been no updates since (with the exception of a Store offer), and for the third time in its history since the trend began, the site was not updated for April Fools' Day in any way. In September, Matt created a Twitter account in which he stated that Homestar Runner would sooner be updated "sporadically and without warning", and that he works for the Nickelodeon program Yo Gabba Gabba, for which he had previously created an animated segment. No Halloween toon was released in October. During 2011, Many fans worried that the website was dead for good. On the HRWiki Forum, Many arguments took place about the hiatus and many people wondered "Is the website dead, or are they taking a long break?". The mysterious question remains unanswered.

"After no halloween toon there seems to be no chance of homestarrunner coming back. It seems pretty obvious that the homestarrunner website is dead." —manofchance

"I admit, after they didn't make a Halloween toon or even put up fan costumes, I was considering that it could be over. But they make a good deal of their money off the store, don't they? maybe they aren't working on it not because they don't have time, but because it just isn't profitable. people just aren't buying products. I sincerely hope they haven't stopped for good. if they ever do stop, I think they would make one final toon saying so, some sort of hilarious goodbye." —WikiThikka

"I think the Chaps have lost interest in the site. Even super busy people can find time to do something with the site. Answering Machines, Pumpkin Stencils, whatever. If only one is available, i.e. Mike, he could have used the time to produce a cartoon where none of the characters can talk and everything has to be expressed through music and/or sound. That would have been a creative idea right? The hiatus originally was because of a baby or so they said, but it's obvious that is not still the reason but they haven't given us much to go on since." —PowerCrunch

"Here's how it's been going. They take a baby break for 5 months in the longest break in the history of the site. They release a toon and main page 26 to say they are back. And they take another break. This is the end isn't it? This has never happened before. They haven't even changed the QOTW yet. Why o why must hey abandon us? I swear if the next toon is xerioxly force, I will go into a catatonic state until the next toon. We need our humor for our blah lives and this is how I get it. I am so sick of seeing Strongbad with tape on his leg over and over and over again. It's no fun anymore. Please Matt and Mike, read this and think about your fans." —Stiny

"I'll always hold out hope. The Brothers C wouldn't let us down without giving us a big farewell, at least. And I don't see HR dying anytime soon, anyway, they've got a lot of material left to work with, as long as there are fans sending in crazy emails every week. I'll keep sending them once in a while, just to keep the faith." —AnotherGuyNamedDan
