"Oh no, the evil moon is crashing into the earth again!"

The Legend of Zelda series of adventure games is usually considered one of the "core titles" for Nintendo systems (along with Mario). It is not surprising that the Brothers Chaps have made lots of references in the Homestar Runner body of work to these games.

Appearances

• The House that Gave Sucky Treats — When the pumpkin is given to The Poopsmith, the "secret revealed" jingle from the series plays. It particularly comes from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.
• Email japanese cartoon — One of the "NES Endings" that can be seen at the end is from the original Legend of Zelda. Additionally, the credits for Stinkoman K are taken from that game.
• Peasant's Quest — The save screen resembles the one from The Legend of Zelda.
  • When Rather Dashing gets the Kerrek's belt, he holds it above his head much like Link does with various items.
• Stinkoman 20X6 features several Zelda references:
  • My Benj resembles the Bit enemies in Zelda II: The Adventure of Link.
  • Stlunko is similar to many video game bosses that consist of a mostly inactive head defended by two enormous disembodied hands. Such bosses are popular in the Zelda series, such as Bongo-Bongo from Ocarina of Time, Gohdan from The Wind Waker, and Mazaal from The Minish Cap.
  • Saargtsson is very similar in appearance and style to Moldorm from the Zelda series, or possibly Volvagia, who also lives in a lava-filled area.
• Halloween Potion-ma-jig — Homsar is dressed as Tingle, a recurring character who debuted in Majora's Mask. Like the character he is portraying, Homsar throws confetti and is also seen floating on a balloon. Homsar's line spoken here also refers to Tingle's selling of maps.
  • Also, one of his "responses" ("That's A Lot! A Lot! A Lot! A Lot!") is spoken by the bank teller in Clock Town whenever the player deposits 10 or more Rupees at once.
• Why Come Only One Girl? — The Hurricane never appeared because The Brothers Chaps were distracted by a new Legend of Zelda game. Homestar Runner responds to this with "Why, Ganondorf, why?!", and then captures Marzipan in a bottle just as Link does with fairies, while singing the "item received" jingle from the series.
  • In the commentary, Mike and Matt agree that the Zelda game in question is probably The Wind Waker.
• Email the chair — A hidden picture reads "nice try dodongo!" Dodongos are dinosaur-like monsters in The Legend of Zelda series.
• Strong Badia The Free — The three-headed spider in Country is similar to Trinexx, the guardian of Turtle Rock Dungeon in A Link To The Past.
• Email unnatural (DVD commentary) — Mike and Matt mention that King Bubsgonzola Supreme's intro closeup and name display are similar to bosses in the 3D titles of The Legend of Zelda series.
• 8-Bit Is Enough — Homestar will, at one point, pop up and say "Hey! Listen!" in the same fashion as Navi in Ocarina of Time. The locked door at game's end is also similar to those in Ocarina.
  • Near the end of the game, after defeating Trogdor, Strong Bad dances similarly to the way Link dances in Wind Waker after defeating a boss.
• Compy Catalog — The Poopsmith is wearing the uniform and bag of the Postman from Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess, though with a picture of The Cheat in place of the rabbit.
• Punkin Stencils — When the stencil of Devil Homestar is unlocked, the "secret revealed" jingle from the series plays.
• Doomy Tales of the Macabre — A few Zelda references are featured:
  • The Poopsmith is dressed as Darunia, from Ocarina of Time.
  • Strong Bad is dressed up as the Skull Kid, from Majora's Mask, wearing the titular mask.
  • In an Easter egg, Homestar sings "Saria's Song", which prompts the Poopsmith to dance (as Darunia does when he hears Saria's Song).
  • In a different Easter egg, Strong Bad makes fun of the moon in Majora's Mask, as the FCUSA moon blinks with a face resembling the one from that game.
