[edit] Protect the icons?

Given that these icons are visible on the Main Page, shouldn't they be protected, similar to every other image on the Main Page? --videlectrix.pngENUSY discussionitem_icon.gif user.gifmail_icon.gif 23:10, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

Yes. Consider it done. Loafing 00:26, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

Given that this template and others (as well as their images) are protected in some way (at least on autoconfirm) shouldn't this template be proctected as well? --Stux 11:37, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Potential SBCG4AP Icon

Is this a good picture to display on the template when a new SBCG4AP episode comes out? BBG 04:05, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

Actually, I'm starting to fear too much detail would be lost if the picture shrunk. Should we use an image featuring only the control pad? BBG 14:10, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
Not entirely sure if we should have a special icon just for SBCG4AP, though I would agree that just the D-pad would be a better icon than the entire Wiimote. wbwolf (t | ed) 14:14, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
I tagged the remote picture and uploaded a picture of the control pad: Image:Wii Pad.PNG BBG 15:04, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
This test shows that the D-pad alone is probably better. — Defender1031*Talk 15:10, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
So, to end discussion, yes or no to adding the icon? SuperfieldCreditUnion
I don't see why not. but it should be re-uploaded at 21 pixels under the proper convention name to fit the template. — Defender1031*Talk 18:25, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
I'd kinda like to see it in context before forming an opinion. As it is, it just looks like a big plus, or maybe a medic symbol. — It's dot com 18:34, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
This kind of context? I think the full wiimote one just gets lost -- at least, I hardly notice it. Plus if I didn't know what it was, I'm not sure I'd be able to figure it out. Kind of meh about the d-pad though, I think I like the old-school joystick.  Green Helmet 19:04, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
The old-school joystick is for videlectrix old-school games. This is a different category of game, no? Not saying the D-pad is best, but we should have something to differentiate between it and the other games, IMO. — Defender1031*Talk 19:06, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
How 'bouts a Wii console? SuperfieldCreditUnion
The D-pad could work, I think for me it just doesn't evoke gameplay, probably because I don't own and have never even played a Wii. For the sake of argument though, maybe the Strong Bad Gameways logo? This image we've already got could be edited to crop just the "badge" out, maybe. (The "badge" itself is about 26px by 13px in this preview). Or the D-pad, I'm just making things complicated. ;)  Green Helmet 19:20, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
So will we or will we not use a special icon for SBCG4AP announcements? BBG 20:11, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

I went ahead and used the D-pad. GreenHelmet, would you still recognize it since all the other Nintendos also have D-pad, or have you never played any of the 8+ Nintendos during your entire lifetime? BBG 22:05, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

That was a bad decision. The discussion is not over yet. I agree with It's dot com that it looks like a big plus or a medic symbol. The question is not if gamers would recognize this symbol as a Wii control, but if regular readers of the wiki do. For example, I basically never play console games, and do not associate a plus sign with games at all. What's wrong with using the Wii logo, for example? Loafing 22:34, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
I'm beginning to agree that the control pad looks irrelevant since TBC didn't draw arrows (to match old Nintendos) or lines (to match the Wii), but the Wii logo looks like it would be unreadable if shrunk. Maybe we should use the Wii console. BBG 22:38, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
Hmmm, maybe we should just keep the joystick. That's a symbol that everybody understands. Loafing 22:45, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
Agreed. --Mario2.PNG Super Martyo boing! 22:54, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit] FeedBurner category

The reason I added the FeedBurner category was because I see this as a blog that The Brothers Chaps will use to announce things other than the release of their toons. The feed has already been used like the aforementioned "Excuses Blog" that they talked about at their Georgia Tech appearance. I don't see why we should put these posts under miscellaneous, or weeklies, as they have been put under. Soiled Bargains (talk|ctrb) 23:23, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

I think it's a fine category. The reason I changed "New Baby vs. Updates" back to miscellaneous is that it's kind of a special case, pertaining to the whole site the way it does, so the generic H*R logo fits better. — It's dot com 00:00, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
Oh. Sorry about that. Soiled Bargains (talk|ctrb) 18:27, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Holiday Icon

I have no ideas for substitutes, but why do we use a red copyright "c" for the miscellaneous holiday toons? BBG 22:59, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

DC said that it's just to be funny. We don't have an icon for April Fool's Day. Shine Sprite (complain) 23:01, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

[edit] behind the scenes

What about this?. It was used for Sbemail 136 Alternate Versions but it isn't here! Rondleman! Stuff I did.Talk. 00:42, 5 June 2010 (UTC)

this is the first time we've ever needed that. DC just uploaded that the other day. Maybe the only reason it's not there is because no one's gotten around to updating the template in the past five days. The Knights Who Say Ni 00:58, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
It's in there. {{u|bts}} makes . Currently there are 33 available icons, but only 21 of them are documented on the template page. — It's dot com 01:06, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
I stand corrected. Yeah, actually that makes more sense than what i said earlier. isn't displayed on the page either, but it's definitely in there, considering that i found it for this talk post... The Knights Who Say Ni 01:11, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
How come some of them aren't documented here? --Kingdom Stars 01:59, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
A bunch of icons were added a little over a year ago, but the editor didn't update the documentation at the same time. I didn't add Xeriouxly Forxe because I doubted we'd use it again. I didn't add the behind-the-scenes icon because I wanted its debut to be a surprise. Anyone who wants to go through and document them all should feel free. — It's dot com 02:59, 5 June 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Icon Links

Had a thought. Since this is used on Template:recentposts (which will hopefully soon make its way onto the main page), why don't we link the icon itself to the respective @StrongBadActual and Instagram pages? Come to think of it, maybe we should do that for every use of this template— link to Toons, to Strong Bad Email, etc. What does anyone think?

We shoulda done this, like, a million years ago. I agree. Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 19:59, 3 September 2017 (UTC)
I think that may be overkill. — It's dot com 21:05, 3 September 2017 (UTC)
How would it be overkill, exactly? I don't see much point in linking to the files when a more appropriate link could be added. At the very least, there should be an option. Maybe something like {{u|hr|link=Toons}}. Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 22:30, 3 September 2017 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Mm, I guess I didn't think about the fact that there's a link to the page right next to it. However... what if we linked the icon to the page, and instead external-linked the date of the post to the post itself? And lopped off the "view" box at the end? This would just be for Template:recentposts, of course. Maybe? Lira (talk) 22:32, 3 September 2017 (UTC)
I'm not certain, but I think there's a way to display an image without making it a link. I think either doing that or linking the icons to the appropriate page would be good (and personally, I usually expect that an icon and text right next to one another will probably link to the same thing), though I recognize that linking to the same page in both icon and text may be redundant. I think I'd prefer either of those to keeping it linked to the File: page of the icon. DEI DAT VMdatvm center\super contra 23:49, 3 September 2017 (UTC)
SRMX12: Sounds interesting in theory, but without the nice blueness of a link, people might not know to click the image. It might work. I'll have to see this idea in action to decide.
DEIDATVM: Yes, exactly. Linking to the file page is pretty much useless unless you need to get to it, which casual readers won't have to worry about, and you can easily find the filename by editing this template. Not linking at all would be better, but linking to the page would be better still. Redundant, yes, but it doesn't cause any harm. You won't even notice unless you click the icon, and if you do click the icon, then you probably expect it to link to the page. So why not? Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 05:14, 14 September 2017 (UTC)

[edit] Skills of an Artist

I was going to make a {{u|soaa}} icon, but I wasn't sure what it should be of. Strong Bad's glove holding the marker? Strong Bad's animated glove holding a pencil? The title? Ham sammich? Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 05:03, 14 September 2017 (UTC)
