It's just a way of talking. Could one call that a gag? I have no idea. I do agree that it's noticeable, though. --~That Guy Over There (User talk:That Guy Over There) 17:32, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

That's alright. It's already been done.

[edit] Spider-Man 3

This fact was removed, but I really think it's true:

The front page story on Da NewsPapes reads, in part, "Global relations set all types of box office records this weekend. Studio execs were encouraged by the turn-around." This is most likely a reference to Spider-Man 3, which premiered on the weekend before this email was released and broke the records for both the highest single-day and opening weekend box office earnings.

Spider-Man 3 was pretty big news this weekend; I don't think it's a coincidence. Trey56 14:47, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

I still think it could be TTATOT. DeFender1031 15:32, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
What do you think the "that" and the "other thing" are? Trey56 15:41, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Any other box office hit ever. DeFender1031 15:42, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Okay, I see. On the other hand, this particular movie uniquely fits the data due to (1) its release time (this very weekend), (2) box office success (best-selling movie ever on opening weekend), (3) the response from studio execs (I even read quotes yesterday from Sony pictures execs in cnn.com's story about this weekend), and (4) the effect that this movie is expected to have on the entire industry ("turn-around"). Yes, there have been previous big box office hits, but I think that the timing and the other connections are too strong to ignore. Trey56 15:50, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
The article specifically mentions "global relations" as setting records, not any sort of movie. Granted, they did say "box office," but that just goes to show you how random the articles are. It's simply too ridiculous of a paragraph to be worth a reference, in my humble opinion. --Lux Acerbus 23:06, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
I agree with Lux, although that coupled with Coach Z's black ooze is interesting.

[edit] Coke is it

Strong Bad refers to the beverage Coke, but as of right now it's not listed in the real-world references. Is that because it's too obvious? Do we still make that distinction? — It's dot com 15:13, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

For me, it falls into the obvious-enough category; but it wouldn't upset me if somebody thought it was necessary to include in the article. Trey56 15:32, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Does the water have anything to do with the alien symbiote from Spiderman 3, which premiered this weekend? Very stuffable. KanineKommander 23:00, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

I think that the black water could be making a joke about boats. If you pull the cap on a big ship (Much like the plug in the little door to the fuel "chamber" on the side of your car. If either of them are open while the engine is running, oil or gas might leak out. Wiremeup13579 23:00, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

You guys, it's that creepy stuff that was pouring down his face when he held an eyeball pear!! Probably a 5th-element reference.
I thought that at first too! I compared the color, though, and the coffee in alternate universe is definitely browner than the sludge this time around. Trey56 00:22, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
Actually, "no-name brand" could be right. This may sound a little nerdy, but when you blend the pigment of the "creepy stuff" with the color of the water, the pigment almost fits. You get a really dark blue that looks like black. Wiremeup13579 14:32, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

The black water and that sound reminded me of an episode of Creep Show (I think), where black ooze devoured four swimmers in a lake.

[edit] Mrs. Hardmaster

I'm a little curious about Mrs. Hardmaster. Strong Bad says he's going to try to get her fired for child abuse, but who is Mrs. Hardmaster being referenced to in the real world?

Uh... probably no one in particular? She's a hard master, hence the name, and the concept of overbearing or even abusive teachers is not something that's only come up just once. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 17:16, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

I sure didn't... --DorianGray 20:24, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
I'm a little surprised that nobody's made a bigger deal about the now-missing child abuse line. That seems both a little unusual for TBC to put in H*R in the first place, and almost equally strange for them to just pull it out like that. I mean, I know random changes after the fact have been done before, but still... And given the missing DNA evidence, (or, to be more accurate, having not been given any reference to the DNA evidence this week...) I have to wonder if there could have been a connection. Child abuse is one of those things that could involve DNA evidence... Though it's certainly pushing things a bit. Really, I just wonder if someone saved the original version of the email somewhere, for dissection. -- LGC&CS 23:25, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
Hmm, it IS odd, isn't it... all these seemingly random changes... None of them seem really worth the change.

I can think of a few reasons a reference to child abuse would be removed... 71.231.56.40 22:42, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Senor Cardgage soundalike?

When Strong Bad starts talking in his "forced" manner in the second-to-last paragraph of the email, he sounds a lot like Senor Cardgage. Anyone else pick this up? — Image:kskunk_fstandby.gif KieferSkunk (talk) — 19:28, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Once again, they're all voiced by the same guy. There's gonna be some overlap. They can ALL be said to sound like each other. DeFender1031 19:29, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
That's not my point. It's patently obvious that Senor Cardgage and Strong Bad are voiced by the same person, and even sound much like each other. My point is that in this specific place, Strong Bad sounds almost EXACTLY like Senor Cardgage, in terms of the way he speaks, his inflection and nasal tone, etc. It sounded almost exactly like Senor Cardgage's appearance in Senor Mortgage. — Image:kskunk_fstandby.gif KieferSkunk (talk) — 19:36, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Except that he actually speaks in a higher-pitched voice than Cardgage usually does. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 19:52, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Hence his not sounding exactly like Senor Cardgage. I'm just mentioning that it sounds like he's either imitating or referencing him. Whatever. — Image:kskunk_fstandby.gif KieferSkunk (talk) — 21:43, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
It's not a senor cardgage reference, it's just strong bad doing a reading-a-boring-essay voice. firstly, Senor Cardgage's voice is more breathy, and secondly he makes no sense when he talks while the "essay" portion of the email is very logical, so there would be no reason to reference him here. btw, sorry, i still have no idea how to sign this thing.
You hit the button with the pwetty writing on it. That'll put your signature on it, y'dig? --Lux Acerbus 23:11, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] cilantro

How is this worthy of mention?

  • Homestar already has the piece of cilantro in his mouth when he receives the hot dog from Strong Bad. (!-- NOTE: This fact is mentioned here because it is not appropriate to mention this in the transcript (it ruins the joke). Please do not delete it. --)
...and? A reference to Coke is considered to obvious to be included? The joke is that it's been there for two weeks. Of course it is there.

first of all, the note answered your question before you asked it, secondly, everybody knows coke. Not everybody notices that the cilantro was there. DeFender1031 19:39, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

It's TTATOT. It's not TTATOT sorry, but I think not about the Coke refrence. User talk:Sam the Man Sam the Man
Umm, sam, no it's not. DeFender1031 19:48, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
I don't see the point of that fact... Strong Bad's message states that Homestar's had it in his teeth since they ate at that Mexican restaurant two weeks ago. Of *course* he'd have it in his teeth before Strong Bad hands him the hot dog. -YKHi. I'm Ayjo! 19:49, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
I, for one, noticed the cilantro was there my first time watching before Homestar started reading the food items. I wasn't completely sure of what it was until he got partway through reading them, but I noticed it. I don't think we should totally avoid mentioning it in Homestar's first appearance in the transcript because it "ruins the joke" because the cilantro itself is not the joke, and because it's not exactly hidden. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 19:51, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

I reworded the fact. I still don't quite agree that it's remarkable, but I think the reword better expresses what is being remarked upon without having to invisicomment it.

If somebody wants to put it in the transcript, I say knock yourself out, but it makes no sense to comment on the fact that a piece of cilantro that's been stuck in Homestar's teeth for two weeks is still there a few seconds before he finds out about it. What is the point? Besides, it's visually apparent, so if it's going to go anywhere, it should be in the transcript. I noticed it the first time I watched the toon, even though I didn't know what it was. --Lux Acerbus 23:15, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Thing is, I did put it in the transcript (the first time, not the second where it currently is), and it was removed as "explaining the joke". What joke is being explained is beyond me. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 23:16, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
I think the joke is supposed to be that it takes Homestar so long to figure out he's got something in his teeth, but how it would "ruin the joke" to put it in the transcript makes no sense to me, either. --~That Guy Over There (User talk:That Guy Over There) 17:31, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Office Space Reference

"We're going to need you to flush twice." If read correctly, it sounds like something Bill Lumbergh would say from Office Space. "Yeah, I'm going to need you to go ahead and come in tomorrow..."

TTATOT DeFender1031 19:51, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Not to call you out in the hot-spot, DeFender, but you're marking a LOT of things as TTATOT today. I'm not so sure that every external reference (like to Spiderman 3 and Office Space) should be discounted as TTATOT quite so quickly. Office Space was the first thing I thought of with that note as well, and to my knowledge there are very few pop-culture appearances of that particular phrasing style that aren't parodies of or references to that movie. — Image:kskunk_fstandby.gif KieferSkunk (talk) — 21:46, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
So, where is the Fun Facts page for this e-mail, so that we may add it there? --CX360 23:15, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
I don't know... I don't think one could call it a case of TTATOT, but I still think it's a stretch to call it a reference. --Lux Acerbus 23:30, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
This is the sort of thing that STUFF is for. — Image:kskunk_fstandby.gif KieferSkunk (talk) — 00:24, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sbevolution?

the old?
the new?

Methinks Strong Bad's design's changed again. From what I can see, the silver thing's gotten narrower, the shading on his diamond is different, and his head is thinner. Any input? Dr. Clash 20:14, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

No, it's just zoomed out more. That's all it is. Maybe. This may be true, but it might not be. To me it just looks zoomed out, but that's just me. Any other opinions? --Jangles5150 20:19, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
I concur. --CX360 20:24, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
To whom do you concur to (wow, that sounded fancy)? --Jangles5150 20:27, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
I concur to you. The view is zoomed out. --CX360 21:25, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Actually, if you have Firefox, open candy product and underlings in 2 tabs, pause at the newspape parts, and flip between them. Now that I do that, Strong Bad's eyes have gotten beadier and the black of his mask is darker. The shading diff is unmistakable, and the silver thing is definitely smaller Dr. Clash 20:30, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Or if you have Internet Explorer 7, that has tabbed browsing. But I think his mouth has gottten smaller. The shading on the top right part of his mask has changed, too. I don't think his eyes have changed, though. --Jangles5150 20:39, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Y'know, he does look different now that you mention it. Not quite so broad, somehow. Interesting. -- Nevadie 20:51, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
It looks like it's just zoomed out to me. Notice that in the second image there's an extra row of green tiles on top, and Strong Bad's head is also notably smaller in the second image. Beyond that, I haven't tried it, but Strong Bad was probably talking during the frame above and not talking in the frame below, since his mouth is larger in the former than in the latter. --Lux Acerbus 23:20, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Responding to Lux, the images above ae just there to illustrate a point (and I wasn't gonna upload 2 new images just for this), but they're at pretty much the same magnification using my above tab switch technique. The differences are alot more visible that way. Dr. Clash 23:43, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
How in the world can you make a darker black? It's just not possible. --CX360 01:17, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
Actually, i just checked using a handy tool i have for these things. The top one's "black" is actually #242424. The bottom one's is #202020. Definately darker. DeFender1031 01:19, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Ok, i just looked at the full size versions of these pictures. the new one has:

  • A narrower and more rounded bottom shadow on the blue thing
  • Narrower eyes
  • Darker "black" area
  • Wider and darker right shadow for "black" area (old one was #151515 new is #000000, true black)
  • Darker streak on left (#454545 vs. #343434)

No way to deny it now. A new Strong Bad is in town! DeFender1031 01:28, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

The blue and grey parts are lighter, too. Visorbot 386 02:00, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
Nice try, but actually, that's an illusion due to the "black" being darker and the blue's shadow being smaller. the grays are both #CCCCCC and the blues are both #5FC7F3. DeFender1031 02:03, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Just to clarify, what I was trying to say earlier was that the frames themselves were on different magnifications, i.e., Strong Bad's face was closer to the camera in the first shot than in the second, not that the screenshots were modified so that one was more zoomed out. Besides, all the other changes are WAY too subtle to be notable, I think - you can hardly even see some of them. I just don't think any of these observations are worth noting in the article, and if that's not the purpose of this discussion, then why is it here instead of in the forums? Just my two cents. --~That Guy Over There (User talk:That Guy Over There) 17:22, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Lux - Heard of Strong Bad Evolution? ;) Dr. Clash 20:20, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

I think its worth mentioning, the change for Old Timey Strong Bad (I forgot the name) is more minor, and we had that in that article. ~ SlipStream

No, I hadn't, Dr. Clash. Thanks. --~That Guy Over There (User talk:That Guy Over There) 16:29, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

Strong Bad is definetely different, but did anyone else notice that Da Newspapes is different, too? It's not a big difference, just that there is a different font at the top. ~16_BIT_MARIO1 15:56, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] That thong th-thong thong thong

What is up with coach Z's thong? it looks like it has thorns in it or something.

Unless it was poking Coach Z and the black ooze was his blood, I think it's just your perspective of how it looks. Homestar-Winner (talk) 22:38, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] see-dee

Is the name "Awkward Social Sun" similar enough to the band "Broken Social Scene" to be considered a reference? Granted, Broken Social Scene is not exactly an emo band, but this may be worth considering never the less...

It's a stretch. Loafing 22:49, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
I don't think it's a stretch at all. They're both band names, they're apparently both indie band names (based on the haircut on the CD cover), they have the same rhythm, the word "social" is the same, the words "sun" and "scene" are very similar... I mean, why would the Bros. Chaps make the easter egg for "Awkward Social Sun" be a CD cover if they didn't have Broken Social Scene in mind?
I thing agree that it's probably a reference. They seem too similar to be just a coincidence. Silverfish 22:04, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
Too late, it's been STUFFed and declined. DeFender1031 22:06, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Lost....Vikings

Don't you think it should be a real-world reference when he says Lost....Vikings at the end? I don't think he was talking just about the game, i think he was mentioning that when Vikings came to North America, they landed on Nova Scotia where they mysteriously vanished more than likely due to little resources and the fierocity of the Native Skraelings..... just a thought. -={torp11}=-

No. ALL his couch talk are games. DeFender1031 22:56, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
I have to give you some props for your supreme knowledge of history, though. Has Matt? (talk) 22:59, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Oh yeah that's right I just read that yesterday... well i still think it's a real-world reference because he chose that specific game. -={torp11}=-
I do think it's clear that Strong Bad chose Lost Vikings because of the mention of Nova Scotia, but I'm not sure if that's worth noting. --Lux Acerbus 23:23, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
I would start a poll or what not but my newbish skills do not carry me far enough, lol.-={torp11}=- 00:01, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
Can someone start a STUFF poll??? question: "Lost Vikings was most likly mentioned because there is significant Viking artifacts from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia; those Vikings disappered without any evidence of death or migration(making them lost)"
Naw, we usually decide about facts with this kind of consensus (and then head to HRWiki:STUFF only if no consensus can be achieved). In this case, I think that the reference is only to the SNES game, as is typical for Strong Bad's Couch Mumbling. But if there are enough people that agree with the other side, then maybe we can start of STUFF iTem. Trey56 01:10, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

The more I think about it, the more it seems like a possible double ente... antund... two reasons for doing it. (someone tell me how to actually spell that word please?) DeFender1031 01:12, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Yeah in every other game mentioned there was a reason behind it. This is that logical explanation.
Umm, if you think so, go through the whole list and give me them, cause i only see it for this one and maybe (if you push it REAAAAAAALY far) chrono trigger. DeFender1031 01:17, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
Ha! There are arguments about evidence weather or not Vikings were there. It seems like the ONLY fame attached to this sparcely populated island. It was called "Vinland" and the region's civilians are known to be generalized as Vikings. (and they hate it) Is there ANYONE who is with us on this??? It is in plain view!!!! It is a simple change to add on to the end of the explanation of the game: "This game is more than likely mention because of Evidence (DNA... just kidding) of a lost civilzation of Vikings in the area where the e-mail sender is from"
Well, I am not with you. Nova Scotia is not an island... what else did you get wrong? 68.122.0.9 03:26, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
nova-scotia.jpg

Really? Close enough for me. The Vikings were located outside of Halifax and also on the north island. They coulden't get to the mainland by land beacase of the Natives, and not by sea because of Ferocious Tides; so basically it was to them. The black diamonds are where either Skraeling or Viking artifacts were discovered. -Clark-

What was he referring to when he said 'Super Contra'? I'm pretty sure it's just the game, man. --Abelhawk 02:25, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
It looks like there's actually moderate support for this fact, so if you want to, go ahead and create an account and start a STUFF item. Trey56 02:24, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
Ok, not EVERY game there is a definate tie into the email or toon, but this seems perfectly logical
I need help with the STUFF creation, I tried to follow the format but it didn't seem to work. Can someone else create it?
Wow, we don't know our games do we? Does the "Lost Vikings" ring a bell? Blizzard entertainment (actually it used to be Silicon and Synapse)? 1992? SNES? Mega Drive? Why don't you google it. Might find something interesting. -teh c.
No, it's listed as such in underlings#Real-World References as well as Couch Mumbling — they're just trying to decide if it's a reference to something else as well. Trey56 04:30, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
Hey, teh c. I don't know how many people were actually unaware of the fact that Lost Vikings was the name of a video game, but what I was suggesting was that the reason TBC chose that particular game had something to do with the earlier mention of Nova Scotia. Beyond that, several people already stated that Lost Vikings was a game and that all Strong Bad's couch mumblings are game titles, so please don't act like you're the only intelligent person participating in this discussion, because that's really what you sounded like. --~That Guy Over There (User talk:That Guy Over There) 17:28, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Still looking for someone to STUFF it, i tried.... lemme just say it didn't come out very good. Post here if you are kind enough to take time out of your busy scedule to practice your STUFF skills.

Well, if you don't care enough about it to create an account so you can STUFF it yourself, then why should we care? Loafing 04:04, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
Well, maybe you should try compleatly reading what I just said: "I tried, but lemme just say it didn't come out very good" It took me 3 hours and it STILL dosen't work out. That's why i asked someone who's done it before to cook one up for me in less time than i could do it; that person being a little more polite than yourself. ;) Oh, and BTW i did create a profile i just don't have a siggy yet. -Clark-
There's only one way to learn. And as I'm not terribly interested in the fact, I'm not planning on STUFFing it. You are the one who cares, so you are the one with the responsibility to STUFF. Please do not be impolite to us by expecting us to do this for you. BTW, when you post to talk pages, you might consider logging in first so we know who we are talking to. You are seen as a random anonny, and as such we aren't going to relate to you in exactly the same manner as someone who is a committed, logged-in member. Isn't that T-shirt with "You Reek-A" on it the exact same picture for all of the shirts in the Homestore? Just blank and white? --Abelhawk 23:19, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Back Pape & Baseball Signing

Does anyone else think that the Back Pape article on a sports player signing a big contract is a reference to Roger Clemens signing with the Yankees during the weekend?

The timing is certainly right... but it's pretty generic. Lots of sports players sign big expensive contracts. Maybe if it mentioned baseball specifically, you'd have something there. But as it stands, I don't think it can be linked to anything in particular. -YKHi. I'm Ayjo! 04:04, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sender of email

It's amazing what Google can do. Check this out. It probably shouldn't go on the page for privacy reasons, but it's interesting nonetheless. Has Matt? (talk) 01:26, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Oh, well done! Not sure if there's a privacy issue here, since it's a public profile. Hmmm, didn't we have a discussion about identifying email senders after H*Bad pretended to have sent one. Not sure what the outcome was. Loafing 01:30, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
The H*Bad discussion can be found at Talk:unnatural#This is my email. As for this one, I don't really know much about privacy issues and such. Has Matt? (talk) 01:41, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
We didn't do much when I researched The Nitwon. --DorianGray 04:11, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
Aye, the sender was I. I know you'll all be wanting proof so here is my best shot at this. Here are two screenshots I took that hopefully shed light on this. I expect scrutiny on this and welcome it. I did black out the email addresses in my box for privacy reasons, as well as one letter in my personal email address. I present My Sent folder as exhibit A.
As exhibit B, I present a Facebook message I received from someone else who looked up PlasticDiverGuy on Google. As I work evenings (see the timestamp in Exhibit A), I didn't read this until Monday afternoon. This Facebook message was how I found out about my email getting used.
For Exhibit C, I'll give you the story behind the email. To avoid possible privacy issues at work, I have not made it public on my Facebook profile yet, even with a wall post linking to the email. The smunderling involved does not watch H*R to my knowledge, as evidenced by his reaction to my The Cheat shirt one day recently. Once a few weeks goes by, there will be enough time passed that I can make up an alibi if anyone at work confronts me on making it public in the real world that I submitted the email.
One of the employees on my team brought forward a concern to me that someone's stench was bothering her (heavy cologne). This was the first time I had to pull someone aside about this awkward issue, and thankfully my boss helped me through it. Later, a fellow manager asked me how the feedback went. The words tact and professionalism were used in this exchange (he was an English major). That night, when I got home, I had just visited H*R and thought to myself, "What would Strong Bad suggest?" I had addressed it that night in a highly awkward meeting and knew Strong Bad had to live with Strong Mad and had mentioned SM's smelly singlet in a prior email. On a whim, I sent the email. The email was written first. The final two additions were the catchy subject line (which took longer to write than the email), and the signature. I had planned on using my real name (see above link), but remembered that Annis (pronounced ANN-ISS) is easily mispronounced as "anus" and Strong Bad liked making fun of names. I signed off using the handle I have used for years, which is a reference to PBS' Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego. It was obscure enough to not be taken on Fark.com (Plastic Diver Guy there) so I ran with it. I currently play on the MSN Gaming Zone (usually poker) as PlasticDiverGuy (15 char. limit there so no spaces) and on the Neverwinter Nights server Arelith as PlasticDiverGuy (also my forum name there). I used it on my WAYN profile for kicks. I haven't updated that in years. For those who are wondering where the blurb at the end about Opera's email client, I deleted that for the sake of saving space and TBC's time.
Oh yeah, no worries about the privacy thing there with me personally. I'd just watch out for that in the future. - PlasticDiverGuy 05:07, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
I can confirm that the person making the post is where he says he is. PlasticDiverGuy, as further proof, what do you think about linking to this thread from the profile linked at the beginning of this thread? — It's dot com 05:14, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
I see you updated your profile. Thanks one million! — It's dot com 05:41, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
Check it out now. WAYN will not allow for email addresses or website addys to be posted in profiles so the "linking" is a description of how to get here. Hope it will suffice. I have my Fark.com profile (Plastic Diver Guy) updated with the proper link as well. - PlasticDiverGuy

[edit] Plastic Diver Guy

Should it be mentioned that the sender's name is a possible refference to the "Plastic Diver Guy" from the Where in the World is Carmen Sandiago game show? After all, island points out that the sender's name "Yami Yugi" is a character from Yu-Gi-Oh!.--67.122.210.103 18:27, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

You raise a good point. On the other hand, Yami Yugi is a lot easier to pin down, as his name isn't made of common words (unlike Plastic Diver Guy). --DorianGray 18:31, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
I think it is a reference. Check out the comments for this video on YouTube. A guy with the username "PlasticDiverGuy" comments on the video's lack of the Plastic Diver Guy. His profile says the he lives in Canada and is 26 years old. This is probably the same guy who sent the email. (For more proof, see the thread right above this one.) Has Matt? (talk) 22:44, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
I will confirm this, my username, PlasticDiverGuy, is a reference to a clue-giver on PBS' Where in the World is Carmen Freakin' Sandiego. If anyone ever puts him up on YouTube, I'll post the link. - PlasticDiverGuy
I still say, with respect, that we are here to document TBC's creative output, not the references in submitted material. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 09:14, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
Indeed. It's great that the guy actually is here, but seriously. The references (and site in general) are about what TBC do. DeFender1031 10:22, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
Than why did we list "Yami Yugi" in the entry for island?--71.141.193.55 18:02, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
I'm going to agree with the masses on this one. The reference was mine, not TBC's. As such, people can find it in the discussion if they're curious as to where it came from. Those that knew the show will get the reference. Those that don't will think it a silly username and be happier for it. PlasticDiverGuy 18:49, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
In reply to User:71.141.193.55, I simply don't think it should be listed. Ifd it's still there, it's my opinion it should be removed. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 19:49, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Arrow'd Guy Reference?

Was anyone else reminded of the Arrow'd Guy during the Dartmouth easter egg, or is it just me?

Now that you mention it, it may seem like an inside reference. -Zerlock1124
There is also an episode of "Ask A Ninja", which suggests that a ninja named "Dart Mouth" should be the mascot for Dartmouth College... http://www.askaninja.com/mascots
No, I don't think so. If it just randomly popped into TBC's heads to throw a ninja into an easter egg who can spit darts, then I would've said it could've been a reference, but I think it only has to do with Strong Bad's reaction to the town being named Dartmouth and nothing else. --~That Guy Over There (User talk:That Guy Over There) 03:09, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Twin Peaks reference

"Stink's Reach" seems like a reference to Twin Peaks. Does anyone agree, or is it a stretch? Lord-z 22:37, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Beating a dead tube of evidence

A very controversial thought, which might have already been discussed in the forums... could the tube "some science guy" is holding be DNA Evidence? KanineKommander 12:43, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

It could be, but there's a lot of other things it could be too... so to claim it is would be speculation. Anyways, it wouldn't fit the running gag, which has always been someone saying the words "DNA evidence" for no apparent reason... whereas this is a scientist holding an unidentified test tube, for a perfectly good reason (to show that he's really a scientist). --phlip TC 13:01, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, same thing I thought, is that there's a reason for the tube, but no reason for the evidence. Thanks! KanineKommander 16:33, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

Actually, the DNA Evidence IS a test tube full of green liquid, as seen in The DNA Evidence. Although the science guy T-Shirt is not shown in the beginning montage of DNA References, I have reason to believe that this is part of the running gag, and/or a teaser for the 'Toon. [edit] Science again! I referenced science again!

I was enjoying a little bit of stupid stuff when I noticed that Homestar's outfit is identical to the scientist's on the "You reek-a!" t-shirt. They share similar glasses, lab coats, and test tubes. I'm thinking this is intentional; anyone agree? Trey56 05:35, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Yes, and every scientist guy who has ever appeared on television, not to mention Jerry Lewis in The Nutty Professor, has worn a similar costume. Retroactive infringement! TBC oughta sue. --BigScaryMike (Talk/Contrib) 21:57, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image Caption

Since it keeps changing, should we vote on it? I choose, "Your tiny bathing suit demeans us all!" Bad Bad Guy 17:36, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

The other nominee is "PUT IT BACK ON! PUT IT BACK ON!" Bad Bad Guy 21:49, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
I like the current one as well (the tiny bathing suit one). Trey56 21:51, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
I haven't seen it changed recently, but if I were to choose, I'd go with the bathing suit line. Bluebry 22:08, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
If the image was elsewhere on the page, "PUT IT BACK ON!" would be a better, more comical approach. But since it's the main image for the article, the caption should somewhat reflect the tone of the whole email. I think "Your tiny bathing suit demeans us all!" does a slightly better jorb at that.--.Johnny Jupiter! talk cont 02:17, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Is it necessary for this page to have a quote randomizer? We could have it switch between, "Your tiny bathing suit demeans us all", "Put it back on!" and "PUT IT BACK ON!" If nobody objects I will do absolutely nothing this time. Bad Bad Guy 00:19, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Napolean Dynamite

A real world reference similar to

  • Condiment messages were used to present the opening credits in the film Napoleon Dynamite.

has been removed and re-added several times. I actually believe that there is a good possibility that this is a reference. It's a popular movie, even though it wasn't the newest when the toon was released. It also looks very similar, but was used in a different context. So I'm not sure if we can be certain enough that it's a reference. If nobody can come up with another movie or TV show that does osmething like this, then I would believe that this is indeed a reference. Any takers? Loafing 04:38, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

I'll take it! I'll take twelve! |\|/[_}-Elkmiester-{_]\|/|

I've seen condiment messages in tons of other places. --Trogga 01:27, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
I doubt it. If it was used for credits, maybe. But this one was to tell Homestar (discreetly) that he had that piece of cilantro in his teeth from two weeks ago. Bluebry 01:29, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
In this case, I say no reference. The context is totally different, there's no attempt on tghe part of TBC to nail it down. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 03:11, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
