wasn't this supposed to be a filename redirect? — 128.103.10.135 (Talk | contribs) 02:08, 4 June 2009 (left unsigned)

Umm.. ahh... err... well, yes. Oops. My mistake.  Green Helmet 02:13, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] [[Toons|toons]]

After seeing Gfdgsgxgzgdrc create what I thought at first was a pointless unnecessary pipe, I find myself in support of getting rid of this redirect. I get that this is here because of what it says on the NavBar, but doesn't it seem more likely that if someone types in "toons", they're looking for the page Toons? And if they were looking for the TV Time Toons Menu, there's always the disambig link at the top of the page. All in favouw? All opposed? Lira (talk) 15:55, 3 August 2016 (UTC)

Aye! Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 16:02, 3 August 2016 (UTC)
It's a filename redirect. At one time it was a technical necessity for all filenames to redirect to the correct page (for the All-in-one script if i'm not mistaken), but I believe that a later version uses a different method. Still, we do have a tradition of maintaining the filename redirects where possible, and despite certain opposition to using pipes from certain users, there isn't actually a rule that pipes are inherently evil or should be avoided at any cost. — Defender1031*Talk 16:11, 3 August 2016 (UTC)
The redirect page's existence is not really what bothers me... it bothers me that it redirects to TV Time Toons Menu, and not Toons. I think it would be less confusing and problematic to be able to type [[toons]] and have it link to Toons. Is there any reason we shouldn't make it redirect to Toons instead? Lira (talk) 16:35, 3 August 2016 (UTC)
Because it's a filename redirect for the toons menu. Do you understand what a filename redirect is? — Defender1031*Talk 16:49, 3 August 2016 (UTC)
Okay... I thought I did, but now I guess I don't. What it is exactly? Sorry for sounding ignorant. Lira (talk) 17:43, 3 August 2016 (UTC)
When on the site, the html file (or swf file) have a filename (for example, http://www.homestarrunner.com/toons.html). A filename redirect is when we redirect that filename's base (without the ".html" extension) to the wiki article pertaining to that page. Hence, since "toons.html" on the site is the TV Time Toons Menu, that's the page its filename redirect points to. And I checked, the all-in-one script still links to this redirect when on that menu, so it is still necessary. — Defender1031*Talk 18:17, 3 August 2016 (UTC)
