After the Horses/IT Pros joke, the chimney pipe can be clicked to show a Dullard comic about such a thing. There's also a couple of clickable squares on the Lappy screen before the TSoND; can't figure out what they do though.

Possible Read-World Reference

The filenames you get when you click SB's diamond are heavily truncated and abbreviated, and match the style of old DOS 8.3 names (that's in length... 8 letters, a period, and three more letters) that were in use before long file names were made possible through Windows. Such names were used so filenames could still be descriptive and still fit within the 8.3 limitations at the same time. Which computers?

I noticed the Lappy is listed as a computer for this toon along with the Tandy. Yet, the Lappy's not actually used to answer an email. Is there another reason it's listed on top? Or is that a mistake? - Qermaq - (^T/C)  17:24, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

Real World Reference

What about the who-dunit and the 7-eleven/Simpsons Who Shot Mr. Burns? Contest?

Also, what about the Buck-O-Nine Reference?

forgot to mention, I'm not sure if this is true for the 7-Eleven one, but in the Butterfinger one, the person who did it was near completely unexpected and kind of a shock ending, similar to this one (we all thought it was a person, and BAM! it was the old computers). How will it check

Can I get a witness?

No real-world reference for this? My first thought was actually Grand Funk Railroad's "Some Kind of Wonderful" (which I have heard), but after some research I suppose the often-covered Marvin Gaye title (which I have not heard) is more likely.

At the beginning, Strong Bad's eyes are sad (the top halves are taken off). Isn't this noteworthy since it doesn't happen very often?

Saving the orphanage

The remark about saving the orphanage reminded me of the Blues Brothers, but I'll let you guys decide if it's worthy enough for the real-world references section.

It's kind of standard drama, saving the orphanage, saving the orphans. Hey, maybe it's Ibsen's Ghosts.

extra buttons?

dont know what they do but did anyone else notice 2 small useless buttons on the lappy's screen in the rooftop scene?

Goof

In the Flash version, when Strong Bad is slinking off to Bubs' Concession Stand, when Strong Bad goes out of the frame, his body disappears.

What year is it?

How many times now has Strong Bad gotten the year wrong? There's #150, there's the comic convention, this one, any others?

That's not altogether true. In regards to 150, he quickly corrected himself at the end ("All my Strong Bad doppelg䀀ngers represent... Sesquicentenn-email, 2005— I-I mean six."). And here he says, "Now, let's check emails like it was the deuce double-ought dweice! It just means 2002..." He said, "Like it was." MHarrington 05:03, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

Buck OR nine

I'm almost certain that SB is saying "Everybody's trying to make a buck OR nine off of my etc. etc." Listen to it with a good pair of headphones and the "R" sound comes through quite clearly. Marshie's body when he says "Win Big" is likely meant to be a parody of the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters

Slink?

I'm positive that "Slink" is a reference to "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" (the TV special) because they say "slink" and he moves just like it... I even told my sis about how Strong Bad moved off the couch and her first reaction was "Oh, from the Grinch!" I'm desperately trying to find my copy so I can confirm this. Can I get a witness?

Long filenames

The 8.3 filename restriction wasn't anything to do with FAT16 vs. FAT32; "long filename" support was introduced in windows with the "vfat" driver, which came before FAT32 came around. The two things happened at around the same time, but they're not related in any way.

Is this fun fact really worth noting? Most keys have a little spring or rubber thing below them, so it's not that hard to type if you're missing a key. I don't think it must be removed, but I'm inclined against keeping it.--Bobo the King 08:59, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

I know from personal experience that yes, it is possible even if the rubber knob and spring had also been removed. It's VERY hard (like it'll work 1 time out of 10) but if you press hard enough on the shiny part of it, sometimes it'll work. -WarthogDemon 23:25, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

With the whole key removed, or even part of the key, yes, it IS possible to type that letter. On the other hand, you may not be able to do it as quickly as Strong Bad types it. My enter key was missing off my laptop for a week or two and I had a very hard time typing quickly, even though I normally type.. well, almost as fast as Strong Bad! (I spend a LOT of time on the computer. xD) Anyways, I think this is something that belongs on the page, because it is accurate, IMO, and interesting. Yes, it is possible to type a key when its removed. That happened to me with the tab key, because i had to hold it down during entire toons to look out for easter eggs. (That was before i learned about flash seek bars) Dr. Savage 23:30, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

Gears and Fans

I hardly think its necessary for a computer to have working "gears and fans" to run. Certainly not gears anyway, and fans is highly debatable. --JamesDean 09:01, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

I exploded the cooling system in my mom's computer and it continued to work fine. Well, maybe not "fine" (it freezes up whenever the CPU gets too hot), but I'm sure Strong Bad could continue to check email, especially since the giant hole in the screen would provide additional cooling. Actually, if you want to really be technical, the gears and fan would make up part of the monitor and it would actually be a cathode ray tube considering the suggested age of the computer. In this case, the monitor would not work at all because the electron gun would have been completely blasted out of the monitor by the shotgun blast. Concerning Automatic hole formatting!

Sorry, new to Wiki-editing, but I was wondering if that fact that Strongbad's reply is in this e-mail doesn't seem to fully conform to the compy's auto hole formatting would count as a goof? --Ilascott

Lappy's "toe" missing

It isn't a goof, because it was a goof in part A.

"I give you...Kong, the eighth wonder of the world!"

I'm trying to add the fact that, though "the eighth wonder of the world" is applied a lot, Strong Bad's use is almost certainly a direct reference to the most famous, Carl Denham's carnival-barker-like use of the term to introduce Kong in captivity in the classic 1933 film "King Kong." However, it keeps getting undone, instantly.

I've seen the movie enough times that it was the first thing to come to mind when Strong Bad used the term. In fact, that's the most famous one, as I said; furthermore, the combination of Strong Bad as carnival barker, and the fact that he's introducing Strong Mad, seems to make it extremely plausible. No 404 page

Return of the Tandy

The following fact was proposed, which I like, even though I think it's too much of a stretch. The two do bear some interesting similarities, though.

• The the appearance of the ghosts of Tandy and Compy watching over as Strong Bad and Lappy are happily walking in the sunset may be a reference to the end of Return of the Jedi when the ghosts of Obi Wan, Anakin Skywalker, and Yoda appear during the victory celebration.

I think that this has been done on purpose. TBC have made reference to the abundance of flash Star Wars parodies, and made that unaired sbemail where StrongBad makes greeting cards to console people whose Star Wars parodies sucked.

Rename plan of action

There are quite a few changes between the old ones and the new ones, keeping the old pages wouldn't be a bad idea. Esspecially if the old flash files are archived somewhere. - Jason

I'm guessing the (combined) will disappear in a week or so. Because it won't make sense to future new viewers as is. Yeah, I'll bet you one million lbs of candy that ultimately the name on the Denny's menu will just be retirement, which is where this article should probably be. And I don't think we should maintain separate pages of nearly-identical information, as it violates the once-and-only-once rule. As Denny's lists this as "retirement (combined)", and the two halves no longer exist, my vote is to 1) drop our grapes, 2) check to be sure no info has been forgotten on the A and B pages, 3) delete retirments A and B and possibly the retirment disambig page, and 4) unmask that Cheat. I question the need to physically delete retirement A and B. They don't hurt anything as redirects, and the history can always be viewed to see how the toons originally existed seperately. Just like we don't delete older revisions of any page, retirement A and B are older revisions of this page, which was mostly copied and pasted. ⇔Thunderbird⇔ 21:44, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

Can I Get A Reference?

Am I right in thinking that when Strong Bad says "Can I get a witness?", it's a reference to Some Kind of Wonderful by Grand Funk Railroad? Yeah it could be... But I think Andy Kaufman was referring more to the old timey "song and dance" men when he was using the phrase as an alternative to being considered a "comedian" which he loathed.

Missing Toe

Lappy says she wants to find her toe, and the two computers jump away... even though Strong Bad has had the toe all along because it was left with the ransom note in "cliffhangers."

Hush Puppies

I originally wrote the hushpuppy fact. I had only heard of the shoe myself, but after doing a little research, it was clear that if it's a reference to anything it's a reference to the food. Really, going out for Hush Puppies makes little sense, and as we see they don't split it into two capitalized words, it makes it even less likely the shoe is what's being referred to. I've heard of both long before this toon even came out. However, since Hush Puppies the shoe brand makes no sense, and since I worked in a fast food restaurant that served hushpuppies when I was in college, the food hushpuppies makes more sense to me. (They're actually fairly commonly placed with seafood, at least in the eastern parts of the country. When I added the "Changes" section, I put the facts in chronological order, as we do with Easter eggs and cast lists. It's dot com then rearranged it, putting them in functional order (for instance, grouping differences based on the missing comma key together. HRWiki is not the place for philosophical debates about matters of the soul, even as they apply to personified electrical appliances... suffice it to say that computers, unlike humans, can be repaired from beyond the brink of death, so after being repaired at least enough to function as a sparking mess (possibly by the KoT, possibly by Bubs, who knows?) who's to say that the Tandy's spirit didn't return to the physical computer? To claim either way would be complete speculation on a matter that TBC have made no attempt to nail down, and thus not worthy of mention on the page. I think Strong bad is genderly confused when it comes to unanimated objects. Becaus first he told the paper to meet his new "brother" consuming that the Lappy is a boy. Marshie's opening remark of "Hello, Kenneth", is likely not random. I think it comes from the infamous "What's the Frequency, Kenneth" moment in 1986. (Dan Rather was mugged on Park Avenue by a complete wacko who kept yelling, "Kenneth! What is the frequency?" The incident inspired the R.E.M. song of this name.) Am I extrapolating too much? Cheat's Fleas

After I read that remark, I recorded the sound of The Cheat's fleas and slowed it down and it didn't sound at all like Strong Bad or The King of Town saying "lalalalalala". It sounded more like people screaming. It's from the Flash file though, which is pretty crappy in audio quality. Unfortunately, I don't have access to the DVDs or anything that would have it in better quality... at any rate, my point is, I honestly don't think it sounds at all like them. Control alt wherever I hit with the pickaxe

So, in the DVD commentary, there's some speculation amongst TBC on what key Strong Bad hit with his pickaxe. I recently took a screenshot of it and it looks like he's hitting A, S, D, or something in that area. This may or may not be that case as he has a nonstandard-looking keyboard. Video game reference?

After SB has spotted the Lappy's tail, and is moving back and forth as he looks up at Bubs' roof, his strange leg movements make it seem as though this must be referencing some classic video game, but I can't for the life of me remember which one.
