Mustachioed Homestar Runner

Well I guess this email answers the question about whether Mustachioed Homestar Runner was a unique character or not. Now we know that he at least has the same voice as Homestar. And I imagine that this is the first time we can actually see him without having to view the toon from its Flash file directly. —THE PAPER PREEEOW 00:50, 9 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Could that be Fabrosi? Strong Bad mentioned that he was probably out lady-ing with a fake mustache. -- 71.34.147.24 20:37, 8 Aug 2005 (MDT)

Maybe Homestar wrote in using Fabrosi as a pseudonym...

A side note: Fabrosi could also be Homsar, since he wears a false mustache in his main page. Smileyface11945 19:10, 18 Aug 2005 (UTC)

If Fabrosi is in fact meant to be a real character, I think The Announcer resembles SB's description the best. But I think "Fabrosi" is just a completely random character. --Skizzot 21:46, 23 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Stocks and Stipes Forever

Toward the end of the email, Strong Bad says stocks are up and stipes are down. According to dictionary.com, a 'stipe' is "A supporting stalk or stemlike structure, especially the stalk of a pistil, the petiole of a fern frond, or the stalk that supports the cap of a mushroom". It's a bit of an unfamiliar word, I bet, so someone may want to add it to the Fun Facts. Just make sure no one alludes 'stocks' to being like 'stalks'. That's a bit too much of a stretch. --DorianGray

I agree. TBC is very good at making such obscure allusions to things that require a bit more knowledge to know about. From the definition it sounds like it correlates perfectly, too. --64.164.69.221 10:05, 9 Aug 2005 (UTC)
I have added the definition to Real-world references and changed stocks to stalks. --[User:Eman|Eman]
I changed it back. Strong bad types stocks. -- tomstiff 18:39, 9 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Stipes, TBC and Georgia

I'm surprised the no one has mentioned Michael Stipe since TBC are from Georgia and so is ... oh, never mind! -- tomstiff 18:43, 9 Aug 2005 (UTC)

I thought the same thing. - 211.28.51.186 06:51, 22 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Buisness/Ab-Abber

I don't feel confident to put this on the main page, but is it possible he says "buisness"? And I'm a little surprised no one's tried to note the similarity between his appearance when he says "muscular" and the handiwork of the Ab-Abber 2000 (granted, not identical; he HAS pecs here).--notstrongorbad

I noticed that too. I second the motion but I'm still not confident enough to add it. I'd wait for the DVD so people can find out by reading the subtitles. -- Octan

Kicking The Cheat

Don't we have enough for this to be a bona fide running gag? Namely:

  • little animal.
  • Strong Bad threatens to kick The Cheat a couple times at the end of caper.
  • He tells Homestar to give The Cheat (hiding under the box)a "swift kick in The Cheat" in replacement.
  • He also mentions "Kickin' Cheats 'till the day I die" in replacement.
  • Mentioned in do over.
  • This email.

It's dot com 20:35, 9 Aug 2005 (UTC)

I agree. Trey56
Yeah, totally. That's totally a worthwhile running gag. Don't forget the Kick The Cheat plushie too. --DorianGray

I think SB says "or holy-crap-adorable cat"...why else would Marzipan comment that it smells like litterbox? Maybe that's just me. --Cocoa

The Fabrosi

I don't hear the "the" in "What did you two do to (the) Fabrosi". But since about 1.5% max of the users here ever agree with me on matters like this, discuss. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 01:05, 10 Aug 2005 (UTC)

There's no "the". It's just "What'd you two do to Fabrosi?" — It's dot com 01:05, 10 Aug 2005 (UTC)
I hope you don't mind that I combined the two topic headings that were created nigh-simultaneously. That said, if Dot com agrees with me... --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 01:07, 10 Aug 2005 (UTC)
I don't hear a "the" either. I think the repetition of the same "oo" sound has confused people's ears. I once thought there was a "the", but I gave it another listen and found that it was the "you two do to" confusing my ears. --DorianGray
No, there's definitely no 'the' in there. The ears want to hear "What did you do to Fabrosi?" but the two beforehand throws it off, making the to, which he pronounces 'tuh', sound like a the. So what the ear actually hears is "What did you do to the Fabrosi?", even though that's not what he said. It took me several times to catch that though. Inside Reference?

"Even though Strong Bad says he would not openly admit that he could never get ladies, he did accidently say he doesn't know anything about the ladies at the end of lures & jigs."

Is this really an inside joke? If anything, I'd call this a fun fact, but it's not even very fun. I think any relation between the two is coincidental at best. -FatPamPam

You have a point, although I think you meant "Is it an inside reference?" No, it's really not. The item has been moved to "Remarks". — It's dot com 23:27, 10 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Slightly Different?

I've seen this fact thrashing in and out over the last couple of days. Is this really notable?

The old-fashioned Homestar in this email has a lower voice than his Marshmallow's Last Stand counterpart, sounding slightly more like his modern self. Strong Bad's voice is also slightly different and sounds more like his modern counterpart.

Slightly different? We normally kill stuff with language like that. Isn't it unlikely that an MLS-era voice would be "performed" precisely as it was years ago? -- tomstiff 17:09, 11 Aug 2005 (UTC)

I didn't write this fact. I just put it back in because I don't like it when an anonymous user deletes something substantial without so much as a word of explanation. As for the fact itself, meh, I could probably go either way. If you really think it should go, you know what to do. — It's dot com 17:39, 11 Aug 2005 (UTC)

STUFF'd fact false

Even though it's too late to change it (it was already unanimously declined), I noticed that the fun fact that said "suppleties" means "supplements" in Dutch was blatantly false. I looked it up on Alta Vista, and the Dutch word for "supplements" is "supplementen." Wish I'd caught that beforehand. --ISlayedTheKerrek 22:20, 16 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Did you do a "Dutch to English" translation of "suppleties"? I got an English translation of "supplements". Also, google "suppleties" ... lots of hits on sites in Dutch. -- tomstiff 22:27, 16 Aug 2005 (UTC)
I'm confused, Kerrek Slayer... you wish the fact hadn't already been declined so that you could give an even-better reason to decline it? — It's dot com 22:56, 16 Aug 2005 (UTC)
Well, I dunno if the "even-better" reason was really "even-better". The "Dutch-to-English" translation of "suppleties" is indeed "supplements". Assuming you believe altavista's babelfish, of course. -- tomstiff 14:52, 17 Aug 2005 (UTC)
The translator at worldlingo.com agrees. -- tomstiff 14:56, 17 Aug 2005 (UTC)
Right. I should have said "supposedly even-better". The fact that ISlayedTheKerrek considered it a better reason was what I was getting at. I was curious about why he seemed to wish the item was still open... So we could decline it with more oomph, or something? — It's dot com 15:01, 17 Aug 2005 (UTC)
I'm a lot less inclined to believe "suppleties" means supplements, because I know a few people that speak Dutch, amazing as that may be, and they told me it was "supplementen." --ISlayedTheKerrek 17:38, 18 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Strong Bad's exact height

Surprised I'm the first to pick up on this eMail's potential for beautifully pointless nitpickery and obssessive fandom. Think about it: a laserdisc is held onscreen, perfectly parallel to the plane of the camera lens, and apparently the exact same distance from said lens as Strong Bad's head. Laserdiscs have a diameter of precisely 30 centimeters. We now know Strong Bad's exact height. That's one step away from knowing his shoe size. That's yet another step away from actually stalking a fictional character. Just think of the potential; "Homsar's hat leaps exactly 14.7 centimeters above his head", "The Thnikkaman's shades appear to be <brand name>, but are 0.3 millimeters too wide, et-bloody-cetera". Or I suppose we could just take note of Strong Bad and the Cheat's height, since it's the kind of delightfully meaningless factoid on which true fanboys and fangirls thrive. Update: Ding! ~76 centimeters, or a mere 2'6. I suppose I'll just add this in, under "remarks".

Can we compare it to The Cheat's hight in Where's The Cheat?? Elcool (talk)(contribs) 11:42, 27 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Hey, whatever floats the collective wikiboat. On a related note, someone seems to have delorted this particular Fun Fact without providing a reason or STUFFing the entry. I suppose I'll restore it until such a reason/vote is forthcoming.
What do you mean, "without providing a reason"? Read the edit summaries. You are right about one thing, though: it's pointless nitpickery. There's no way you can assume TBC would have tried to get the size of the laserdisc accurate to the point of its being used as a standard of measure. They made it look "about right" on screen, nothing more. — It's dot com 14:15, 30 Sep 2005 (UTC)
My bad, not sure how I overlooked that. 85.64.210.95 01:44, 1 Oct 2005 (UTC)
TBC probably just exaggurated the size of the laserdisc. Most people don't know how exactly big a laserdisc is, a lot of people have probably never seen one. They just know they're big. So standard caricature action comes into play when it gets cartoonised - people know they're big, so make it huge. --phlip TC 15:44, 30 Sep 2005 (UTC)
You're both absolutely right, but I fail to see how that's in any way relevant. Obviously the disc was never actually intended for size comparison, but that's why this is the Wiki That Should Not Be. TBC make hilarious toons. That's what they do. Continuity, internal consistency, the fourth wall, none of these things matter to them, so long as they get the joke across. This wiki, in contrast, endeavors to turn the Homestarverse into some sort of rational, objective, well-documented world, and keep a straight face the whole while. We bring order to chaos, even when there's no good reason to do so. When TBC put a 'stashed Homestar just outside the frame, that's just a visual non sequitur. When this wiki gets light of said 'stashed Homestar, it wonders whether this might be the former King of Town, the one that's supposedly Marzipan's dad. When we realize there's no way the Gravy Train could fit a captain that's over half a million ladies tall, we fudge the numbers to make it work. So c'mon; just because this was clearly unintentional, doesn't mean it isn't worth noting. SB's bleeding tiny, he is. About as tall as puppet Strong Bad.85.64.210.95 01:44, 1 Oct 2005 (UTC)
But compare Strong Bad to all the other objects around, like his computer. Is he living in a dwarf world, and The Cheat brought a laserdisc from elsewhere? I'll believe that the laserdisc was extra big before I believe the whole H*R universe is extra small. - Joshua 01:50, 1 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Do you want my Bod?

When Strongbad ask's Marzipan if she "wants his bod", it is a reference to a cologne commerical "Bod Man", seen here: http://www.parfumsdecoeur.com/bod_ads.cfm
