With His Pairs?

can anybody tell what strong bad is saying during the first line of his email song? i wrote "pans" in the transcript, but not only does that make absolutely no sense, but i think i can hear an "r" in there. suggestions? --Zatchman (Neumannz) 16:51, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure it's "With this pants", not only because that's definitely what I hear, but it's also a running gag. -- lelila (talk) 17:03, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
well the second line he definitely says "with his pants", but that's why i don't think that's the first line he says --Zatchman (Neumannz) 17:13, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
I heard pants twice, myself.. the first could be something like "parnts", but other than "parents" which it really didn't sound like, I can't think of anything else that's close to. -- Mithent 17:15, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
It's pants. Stev0 18:57, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Homeschool

I'm pretty sure I saw Homeschool Winner's skull on the drawing Strong Bad made of what could lie a few feet beneath Strong Badia. Is this notable? AlmsforthePudgy 17:10, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Yea, I thought that too. Though it could just be some other dinosaur's half-skeleton. --71.113.62.14 18:11, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

The conclusions we're drawing about Homeschool winner, and how it's a reference to that Sample of style toon seems like a stretch to me. I'm not convinced it's even supposed to be him. On a related note, I see that death was already linked. My mistake. I'm sure it'll get resolved though. -DAGRON 19:27, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Ok, maybe the reference to Sample of Style I made was a little stretchy. Buy I do think this is Homeschool. Just look at that overbite and elongated skull. It's unmistakable. So I just drew the conclusion that "dead + Homeschool = Sample of Style". I could be wrong, this is up for debate, but there is no way that this is not Homeschool Winner. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 19:57, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
i concur re: homeschool winner, and although i wouldn't insist on it, i can understand where the sample of style connection can be made ---Zatchman (Neumannz) 20:30, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
Nonetheless, he should not be listed in the cast, as he's simply in a picture. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 22:06, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
In my defense, this thread was about his appearance, and my question was about the connection to sample of style but yes, in retrospect, it could easily have gone here. -DAGRON

Different Town tie-in?

Should there be an inside reference about the "box filled up with peas" in the picture and how it was mentioned in different town? If so, what needs to be said about it? --Bobsmith84 18:24, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Oh! Good eye! I wondered what that cube was. But if it's peas, why does KoT want to eat it? Elcool (talk)(contribs) 18:39, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
it's not the box he wants to eat, it's the layers of earth. the box is just the trigger associated with the KWOT --Zatchman (Neumannz) 18:48, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Nickelodeon game-show reference?

I remember watching game shows on Nickelodeon when I was a kid, and metal detectors were often awarded as prizes on one of them. Does anyone else remember this? And more importantly, does anyone else remember what show? (I'm thinking Double Dare. Or was it more than one show that did this?)

There's a "Real World Reference" in this somewhere, I just can't quite pin it down. Anyone? --Bobsmith84 19:21, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Well, after some googling, best I could come up with was Starcade, which I've never personally heard of, but it sounds right up TBC's alley. The article says they had metal detectors as prizes. (ETA: oops, forgot to sign) -- lelila (talk) 20:17, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Goof

The "rent out the dirt" button still is "tab-enter"-able after the first line and a half or so of the next lappy typing screen. --205.213.123.129 19:09, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Deja Vu Music?

I could swear that the background music heard during the Taranchula metal-detector consolation-prize cutaway is from another Homestar toon. Can anyone put a name on it so we can use it as an inside reference? 20:35, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Inside reference?

Does this really count as an inside reference?

  • Bubs seems to be hiding the death of some fellow named Rich, whose coffin can be seen at the end of the email.

I was of the opinion that it had to be from a separate toon, and if so, where should it go? DumbMuscle 22:00, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Because death is a recurring element/gag in some toons. The death page ties all appearances of death together in a list. --DorianGray 22:03, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Illustration / Dr. Seuss

The illustration looks like Whoville. Awexome (Talk | contribs) 22:07, 3 March 2008 (UTC) (left unsigned) 22:07, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

I think we need to reach some consencus about if Strong Bad's ending drawing is a reference to Dr. Seuss. It wasn't the 1st thing that came to my mind when I watched the email. Bad Bad Guy 22:15, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

It wasn't any thing that came to mind upon seeing it, even after hearing the fact. --DorianGray 22:18, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
The primitive buildings look like those of Whoville. Awexome 22:31, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
I don't agree - they look like all sorts of fancy buildings. Ima say no reference. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 22:33, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
I had a few Seuss books in my time, but never anything with this type of drawing. If this it's best if the person suggesting the fact brings up a comparative image. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 22:36, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
After seeing it again, I'll have to say it's more the urban outro of Sesame Street, with the dancing NYC skyline. Awexome 00:58, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Parents

  • Strong Bad believes that his parents are aliens in this email, but he showed us a picture of his parents (even if it was hidden by Le Restige) in the chair.

However, the picture just says "nice try dodongo". It is possible he does not know who his parents truly are, which might explain his reluctance to discuss them. Of course, that's entirely speculatory, but this remark seems to say that Strong Bad was seriously showing us a picture of his parents when I think evidence suggests he was not. Not certain how to reword. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 22:13, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

I think the "nice try, dodongo" is only there for the viewers. It's a TBC trick, not a Strong Bad trick. Strong Bad seriously WAS showing us a picture of his parents; it was blocked by the chair's back. --DorianGray 22:17, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
It certainly seems to me that deliberately did that because he knew that we wouldn't see what he was doing/showing. "nice try, dodongo" is obviously aimed at people who might try Flash decompiling though. -- Mithent 22:20, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
Strong Bad says in this email "my parents are REALLY..." which means that even though he knows (knew?) who his parents are, they were probably adoptive -JamesDean

McDoo & Videlectrix

not entirely sure this is Talk worthy, but does anyone else see the resemblance b/t mcdoo (i am not bothering w/ his first name) and one of the videlectrix guys? well, yeah, they're both Matt, but mcdoo is just the videlectrix guy with a wig. the reason i bring it up is because of his appearance with the videlectrix kidx MD ---Zatchman (Neumannz) 22:20, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Hmm. If there's anything notable, it'd be notable on Taranchula, not here, as that's always how he looks. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 22:35, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Cocoon

The cocoon looks like those from Invader Zim Awexome 00:59, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Pascual Perez & Atlanta

While checking his Wikipedia page, I see that Pascual Perez was not just a major league pitcher (which I knew offhand), but was a former All-Star and that his one All-Star appearance was with the Atlanta Braves. Given TBC's desire to make Atlanta the center of the known universe (j/k), is it worth including the Atlanta connection in the "Real-World Reference"? ==Vital statistics==

About me

I came to this site from the TV Tropes Wiki at [[1]]. Over there, I'm somewhat famous as a wrestling fan and for adding random pieces of trivia. If there's an academic real-world reference, chances are I noted it. Indeed, I was a member of my university's varsity College Bowl team, 1998-2002, and was on the state championship team in Academics, 1998, for Virginia. (Would've been so in 1997, possibly, but it didn't exist then.)

I haven't done anything important on this wiki yet apart from some discussion I've started in various places. I lurked for quite some time before posting.

Homestar Opinions and Trivia

  • Favorite character: Strong Bad, though the Cheat comes a close second
  • First cartoon seen: email "the chair"
  • Favorite email: bottom 10
  • Favorite song: "Because It's Midnite" by Limozeen
  • Things from H*R that have entered my vernacular: "DELETED!", "(The Cheat noises)", "Are you asking for a challenge?"
  • Pet peeve: Needing to learn how to make this page cooler. Like, add pictures and wiki words... it's so much easier on TVTropes, man.
  • Favorite tinfoil-hatted theory about H*R: Homestar and Marzipan are brother and sister, and Marzipan pretends to be Homestar's girlfriend to keep the others from bothering her.
  • Character I'm most like: I used to be Coach Z until he took a long walk off a short creepy pier. Now I think I'm more of a male So-And-So.
  • Biggest contribution(s) to the Wiki: Primary author of the Strong Badia the Free Walkthrough

Final thought

Thank you to the Chapman Family for a great way to entertain, and for making a modern adult cartoon that is both funny and appropriate for all ages. Even my mom likes it!
