It's mock-Spanish, the "qu" is never pronounced like in English unless there is a diaerisis ("two dots") over the "u" and even though someone identified it as "Castilian" it's not. Pronoucing "s" as "th" is only heard is some parts of Andalusia, as opposed to the more common "soft c" and "z" "th" pronunciations.

So, I noticed that when Strong Bad and the announcer man say detector, they put a lot of emphasis on the last syllable. This is reminiscent of both Drive-Thru and Other Days, making this the third occurrence of the over-emphasized -OR. I'm thinking this might make it worthy of becoming an inside reference/recurring gag. Anyone else agree? -- lelila (talk) 07:24, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] With His Pairs?

can anybody tell what strong bad is saying during the first line of his email song? i wrote "pans" in the transcript, but not only does that make absolutely no sense, but i think i can hear an "r" in there. suggestions? --Zatchman (Neumannz) 16:51, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure it's "With this pants", not only because that's definitely what I hear, but it's also a running gag. -- lelila (talk) 17:03, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
well the second line he definitely says "with his pants", but that's why i don't think that's the first line he says --Zatchman (Neumannz) 17:13, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
I heard pants twice, myself.. the first could be something like "parnts", but other than "parents" which it really didn't sound like, I can't think of anything else that's close to. -- Mithent 17:15, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
It's pants. Stev0 18:57, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
I heard pants. And since everyone (especially Strong Bad) knows that randomly inserting pants into your sentences makes them much more hilarious, I think it's pants too. Lucentas 03:13, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Homeschool

I'm pretty sure I saw Homeschool Winner's skull on the drawing Strong Bad made of what could lie a few feet beneath Strong Badia. Is this notable? AlmsforthePudgy 17:10, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Yea, I thought that too. Though it could just be some other dinosaur's half-skeleton. --71.113.62.14 18:11, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

The conclusions we're drawing about Homeschool winner, and how it's a reference to that Sample of style toon seems like a stretch to me. I'm not convinced it's even supposed to be him. On a related note, I see that death was already linked. My mistake. I'm sure it'll get resolved though. -DAGRON 19:27, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Ok, maybe the reference to Sample of Style I made was a little stretchy. Buy I do think this is Homeschool. Just look at that overbite and elongated skull. It's unmistakable. So I just drew the conclusion that "dead + Homeschool = Sample of Style". I could be wrong, this is up for debate, but there is no way that this is not Homeschool Winner. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 19:57, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
i concur re: homeschool winner, and although i wouldn't insist on it, i can understand where the sample of style connection can be made ---Zatchman (Neumannz) 20:30, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
Nonetheless, he should not be listed in the cast, as he's simply in a picture. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 22:06, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
In my defense, this thread was about his appearance, and my question was about the connection to sample of style but yes, in retrospect, it could easily have gone here. -DAGRON
I don't think its as much of a reference to S-of-S than it is to just his "disappearance as a character status". They've talked about him more than the other "almost characters" like Champeen, probably because he's the most famous one-to-two-time-appearance character the site has in my eyes. [edit] Different Town tie-in?

Should there be an inside reference about the "box filled up with peas" in the picture and how it was mentioned in different town? If so, what needs to be said about it? --Bobsmith84 18:24, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Oh! Good eye! I wondered what that cube was. But if it's peas, why does KoT want to eat it? Elcool (talk)(contribs) 18:39, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
it's not the box he wants to eat, it's the layers of earth. the box is just the trigger associated with the KWOT --Zatchman (Neumannz) 18:48, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Nickelodeon game-show reference?

I remember watching game shows on Nickelodeon when I was a kid, and metal detectors were often awarded as prizes on one of them. Does anyone else remember this? And more importantly, does anyone else remember what show? (I'm thinking Double Dare. Or was it more than one show that did this?)

There's a "Real World Reference" in this somewhere, I just can't quite pin it down. Anyone? --Bobsmith84 19:21, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Well, after some googling, best I could come up with was Starcade, which I've never personally heard of, but it sounds right up TBC's alley. The article says they had metal detectors as prizes. (ETA: oops, forgot to sign) -- lelila (talk) 20:17, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
TBC have remarked in the G4 interview that they love Starcade, so it's definitely possible. - furrykef (Talk at me) 04:40, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Well, I put a link to starcade in the real-world references, but someone removed it. And I have no idea why. -- lelila (talk) 00:30, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Deja Vu Music?

I could swear that the background music heard during the Taranchula metal-detector consolation-prize cutaway is from another Homestar toon. Can anyone put a name on it so we can use it as an inside reference? 20:35, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Inside reference?

Does this really count as an inside reference?

 • Bubs seems to be hiding the death of some fellow named Rich, whose coffin can be seen at the end of the email.

I was of the opinion that it had to be from a separate toon, and if so, where should it go? DumbMuscle 22:00, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Because death is a recurring element/gag in some toons. The death page ties all appearances of death together in a list. --DorianGray 22:03, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Illustration / Dr. Seuss

The illustration looks like Whoville. Awexome (Talk | contribs) 22:07, 3 March 2008 (UTC) (left unsigned) 22:07, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

I think we need to reach some consencus about if Strong Bad's ending drawing is a reference to Dr. Seuss. It wasn't the 1st thing that came to my mind when I watched the email. Bad Bad Guy 22:15, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

It wasn't any thing that came to mind upon seeing it, even after hearing the fact. --DorianGray 22:18, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
The primitive buildings look like those of Whoville. Awexome 22:31, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
I don't agree - they look like all sorts of fancy buildings. Ima say no reference. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 22:33, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
I had a few Seuss books in my time, but never anything with this type of drawing. If this it's best if the person suggesting the fact brings up a comparative image. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 22:36, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
After seeing it again, I'll have to say it's more the urban outro of Sesame Street, with the dancing NYC skyline. Awexome 00:58, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Parents

 • Strong Bad believes that his parents are aliens in this email, but he showed us a picture of his parents (even if it was hidden by Le Restige) in the chair.

However, the picture just says "nice try dodongo". It is possible he does not know who his parents truly are, which might explain his reluctance to discuss them. Of course, that's entirely speculatory, but this remark seems to say that Strong Bad was seriously showing us a picture of his parents when I think evidence suggests he was not. Not certain how to reword. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 22:13, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

I think the "nice try, dodongo" is only there for the viewers. It's a TBC trick, not a Strong Bad trick. Strong Bad seriously WAS showing us a picture of his parents; it was blocked by the chair's back. --DorianGray 22:17, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
It certainly seems to me that deliberately did that because he knew that we wouldn't see what he was doing/showing. "nice try, dodongo" is obviously aimed at people who might try Flash decompiling though. -- Mithent 22:20, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
Strong Bad says in this email "my parents are REALLY..." which means that even though he knows (knew?) who his parents are, they were probably adoptive -JamesDean

[edit] McDoo & Videlectrix

not entirely sure this is Talk worthy, but does anyone else see the resemblance b/t mcdoo (i am not bothering w/ his first name) and one of the videlectrix guys? well, yeah, they're both Matt, but mcdoo is just the videlectrix guy with a wig. the reason i bring it up is because of his appearance with the videlectrix kidx MD ---Zatchman (Neumannz) 22:20, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Hmm. If there's anything notable, it'd be notable on Taranchula, not here, as that's always how he looks. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 22:35, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Cocoon

The cocoon looks like those from Invader Zim Awexome 00:59, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Pascual Perez & Atlanta

While checking his Wikipedia page, I see that Pascual Perez was not just a major league pitcher (which I knew offhand), but was a former All-Star and that his one All-Star appearance was with the Atlanta Braves. Given TBC's desire to make Atlanta the center of the known universe (j/k), is it worth including the Atlanta connection in the "Real-World Reference"? -- TJDevil02

I think it's relevant, especially since he played for the Braves from 1982 to 1985, during their baseball-loving childhoods. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 02:48, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Homestar was named after Mark Lemke, another player for the braves.TheTeach!
Yes, that's been appropriately noted. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 03:27, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Paper Detector

Is it worth mentioning that the metal detector appears to detect a piece of paper with a chicken nugget in it, while neither of those is metal? --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 02:14, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

No, that's just a piece of tin foil with a picture Strong Mad drew of you when you were little. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 02:47, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Okay, I missed that line. My bad. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 03:35, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Kidx

Would this be considered the first non-video game videlectrix product, or does the "kidx" part change everything? (I know theres boardelectrix, but thats a seperate company without "vid" in the name) TheTeach!

It's clearly the same company, just a new (to us) division. I don't think anything more than a note in the Videlectrix article is needed. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 03:28, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
The 1st non-video game Videlectrix product was the Peasant's Quest movie. Bad Bad Guy 03:31, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] The Chase

Speachless. This thing is how many hours old? and you people already figured out what episode of Star Trek was being referenced. I bet TBC were using this site as a litmus test make more star trek/star wars inside jokes.

I'm often amazed at the references people can put together. I wouldn't know a tenth of the things that end up in our fun facts. --DorianGray 05:16, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Yeah... sometimes I wonder if even TBC are suprised at some of the connections we make. "Wait... we made a reference to what?" -- lelila (talk) 18:50, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] World Class Hole

Gentlemen, gentlemen!

Are we forgetting... WORLD CLASS HOLE?!

I refer you to 2 years.

The end of the e-mail suggests a TRULY world class hole.

It's been 5 years since that email, but I agree. Awexome 21:52, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
But the hole we see is harldly world-class. It'd sorta more like someone's-backyard-class. The drawing of Strong Bad's is based on his bad imagination. There's nothing to suggest it is or will ever be dug. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 22:49, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Strong tends to talk up alot of his ideas. I think the information should be noted here even if it may be a coincidence. Stribbs 20:00, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Bubs rent

Wait, so Strong Bad rents Strong Badia from Bubs [see:colonization] who in turn rents space from Strong Bad to bury his toxic waste. Worth a remark? — Flashfight 10:26, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

That was more of Strong Bad's highly unphotographic memory, I thinks.

How does Strong Bad's memory play into it? It's Bubs' actions that seem out of place, not Strobro's. — Flashfight 12:52, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
We only have Strong Bad's telling of the colonization of Strong Badia to suggest that he pays rent to Bubs, and it's hard to say if anything is true in that account. -- Mithent 19:06, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Different Foreheads

This Fun fact has been removed from the article:

Strong Bad's line about beings with different foreheads refers to the Klingons (and other such alternate species) of Star Trek. More specifically, it refers to the plot of the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode 'The Chase', in which the Enterprise crew discover a message from an ancient race who claim to have seeded the galaxy with other races that look like them, including humans and Klingons.

I'm wondering if this is indeed a valid fact based on three points: a) Strong Bad's line is definitely out of context and a reference to something b) The Chase is apparently regarded as an explanation why most Star Trek races all look the same except for the bumps on their foreheads and c) Star Trek has been referenced many times. Loafing 21:45, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure the fact is correct. -DAGRON 21:55, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
I actually think, upon watching the toon again, that this fact was indeed correct. I removed it a bit hastily, but he's saying not only THAT the only difference is the foreheads, but asking WHY is definitely a reference to the chase. Unbaleeted! — Defender1031*Talk 22:46, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Sure it's a valid fact ... but is it a valid reference? Seems utterly out of place to me.--Mycroft Holmes 03:19, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
I am assuming that you never actually saw that episode. If you had, you'd know that the episode has long been a joke among trekkies about how all races look the same and how they made up some lame excuse backstory as to why. — Defender1031*Talk 03:25, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Illustration

I was just thinking that the illustration resembles the animation style of Kaput and Zosky. Awexome 21:51, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Congratulations. You've already found the "This", and the "That". Now all we need is "The Other Thing", and we'll be able to *officially* rule out the ending picture as being a reference to something. -YKHi. I'm Ayjo! 02:51, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
He compared the picture to Whoville, Sesame Street, and Kaput and Zosky, so I think he filled all 3 requirements. Bad Bad Guy 23:29, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

Yes and every time he says it with an american accent thats a real world reference too -JamesDean

[edit] detect-OR

So, I noticed that when Strong Bad and the announcer man say detector, they put a lot of emphasis on the last syllable. This is reminiscent of both Drive-Thru and Other Days, making this the third occurrence of the over-emphasized -OR. I'm thinking this might make it worthy of becoming an inside reference/recurring gag. Anyone else agree? -- lelila (talk) 07:24, 5 March 2008 (UTC) Yes. but, a buttdanceNeox ONION BUBS!YOU WILL RESPECT MAH AUTHORI-TAH!!!

It's a death metal cliché pronunciation. Also, there's actually a Bill Wyman (ex-Rolling Stones) metal detector on the market. (Just Google for Bill Wyman metal detector).

[edit] Wipes and Montages

What are those? Awexome 22:29, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

Movie techniques, often used to imply passage of time. -DAGRON 22:33, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
And Strong Bad creat'd [sic] some montages in montage. -- 01:02, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Metal Detector

Do metal detectors detect bottlecaps and tinfoil? Awexome 22:34, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

According to the research I did, they can detect aluminum. See http://metaldetectorreviews.net/manual.shtml . Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 22:38, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Paully Pasqually

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pasquale_Paoli for a reference or some. --99.153.135.61 02:29, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Now here's an interesting idea. Reference to this dude or simple corruption of the emailer's name. I can't tell. -DAGRON 02:58, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Personally, I suspect the use of "Pasqually" is a reference to the Chuck_E._Cheese's Pizza Time Band member, and "Paully" may have just been used alliteratively. kyojikasshu 19:56, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Indiana Jones reference?

When Strong Bad is talking to Strong Sad, he ends his sentence with "kid." Could that be a reference?

Probably not, it's a common expression. — Defender1031*Talk 13:34, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I didn't think so. Just wondering.

[edit] Fast-Forward

One of Strong Bad's lines is, "Have you ever tried to dig a hole? It's not all wipes and montages like in the movies." Should we put a flash-forward that mentions that there in fact IS a wipeaway from digging a hole in Homestar Ruiner (along with the Metal Detecor appearance)?
