Talk:Timeline of Homestar Runner

From Homestar Runner Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search
Ding! Timeline of Homestar Runner is a featured article, which means it showcases an important part of the Homestar Runner body of work and/or highlights the fine work of this wiki. We also might just think it's cool. If you see a way this page can be updated or improved without compromising previous work, feel free to contribute.

[edit] Clean up? Delete?

All the info in this article is covered in the various updates pages. Nonetheless, I could see some good in keeping this article as a brief summary of the high points of the history of H* If we do, though, it will need substantial cleanup and a page move (at least to correct capitalization, and I kind of think the title needs to describe what the article is about better. Heimstern Läufer 02:32, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

I think this has potential but is currently in horrible form. I say keep and revise, provided there isn't a similar page. SaltyTalk! 02:37, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
I don't think this page has potential. This reminds me of Timeline, which was eventually deleted. This seems like it could either be a massive updates page or a real world update page, but either way, it is covered in other articles.Rogue Leader / (my talk) 02:41, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
Cleanup and move. And set standards for what type of event will be chronicled. Less all-inclusive than the Updates pages, of course. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 02:44, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
RL: "Timeline" dealt with the in-universe history of FCUSA. This page attempts to capsulate the info already on Updates pages in order to facilitate "one page" viewing of the highlights of H*R real-world history. Does that change your vote in any way? Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 02:58, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
My bad, I thought the 1996 was 1936, so I thought it was a timeline of in-universe history. Rogue Leader / (my talk) 02:59, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
I suggest we include in this article items which are seminal to H*R (first sbemail, first MAM, first TGS, etc.), of significant stylistic or historical importance (Reddish Radish, Peasant's Quest, etc.), and real-life events which have influenced (or may influence) later work (Mike and Missy's baby, Matt and Mike's dad's death), as well as important anniversarys (100th email, 10-year anniversary toon). Any comments? Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 03:34, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
Yes, I like this idea. Qermaq, your ideas for content seem like good ones. Let's also work on a new title. "Homestar History" isn't good, and neither is "Homestar Runner History", because this could refer to the character. For now, I'm thinking " History" or "History of". Any other thoughts? Heimstern Läufer 04:08, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
Yes, I think it's a great idea, too. When I was even more of a n00b, I always wished there was one place where I could find all this information easily. And I agree, only major events and milestones should be included. For example the first mention of main characters or new franchises (TGS, Puppet stuff). We should work on a good definition of what to include and what not to avoid LAME edit wars. As for the title, I think "(A) History of" sounds better than " History".  Loafing 04:20, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
History of works for me, lacking a better name for the corpus of work that constitutes the fodder for this wiki. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 04:35, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
Depending of course on just how much is to be covered here, wouldn't the info on this page simply go on Homestar Runner (body of work)? — It's dot com 04:37, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
If we decide on an extremely limited scope, yes. If we decide on a ssope which is not quite as limited as that, no. And realize the growth reality. In 4 years this will definitely need it's own page, right? If not to summarize Updates, to give an at-a-glance viuew of the H*R history to the new viewer. (And I hate this page name. No one mentioned this in talk, nor did it acieve concensus.) Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 04:49, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
Even if we have a moderately long page, I still think it would fit on Homestar Runner (body of work), first of all because it is direct information about the body of work itself, and second because that page is severely lacking in content. If the added information were about as long as Free Country, USA, that would still be a whole lot of data without being too long. — It's dot com 05:00, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
The page will be much longer than it is now. If we add 3 to 4 events per year, that's already 30-40 events until today. I also think the content warrants a separate page. Loafing 05:05, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Page title

History of works for me. Heimstern Läufer 15:25, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Yes, I agree with Loafing and Heimstern. SaltyTalk! 15:29, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
Me too. Trey56 15:41, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
OK, consensus seems to be for History of I'm'a go ahead and move. Heimstern Läufer 16:20, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

This page has the wrong title. It describes a timeline of the body of work, not the website itself. I recommend "Homestar Runner timeline" or somesuch. — It's dot com 20:25, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

I remember finding the title questionable even when I supported it, but at the time there was no clear consensus on what to call what we were then calling "Homestar Runner (flash cartoon)", so the current title seemed the simplest and best way to go. Now that we have "(body of work)", it makes sense to switch to something more closely reflecting that. Heimstern Läufer 20:28, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
I agree. "Homestar Runner (body of work) timeline" would be more correct, albeit ugly. Loafing 20:29, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
I don't think a disambig is necessary. The article about the universe isn't called "Homestar Runner (body of work) universe". If we ever had an in-universe timeline (which has been tried and doesn't really work), it would be at "Timeline" (looking at the logs, I see that's exactly where it was). — It's dot com 20:37, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

I went ahead and moved it to Timeline of Homestar Runner, since it's at least accurate whereas the former one isn't so much. (If we should need more discussion, naturally we will have it.) — It's dot com 21:00, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Weirded out!

This timeline claimes the 1st Videlectrix game is Awexsome Cross 98, while the Videlectrix article lists Duck Pond as their debut. Bad Bad Guy 14:38, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Should I put the paper was replaced under 07?

i think that it's a huge milstone for SBemails cause unlike sb's computers they last and average of 70 emails and the paper has been there since day one. everyone loves the foogs he loves his boring sigs! 14:26, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

I totally agree, since New Paper stays for email mini golf. 17:26, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, and it's also here for concert and hygiene. SuperfieldCreditUnion 19:47, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] A Different Kind of Cool?

Is Senor Cardgage's debut really more notable than the debuts of other secondary characters? Should we proceed to add Marshie and Nebulon and the Sad Kids? Bad Bad Guy 19:15, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Marshie, maybe. --DorianGray 19:23, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
Marshie seems like a good addition to me. Nebulon and the Sad Kids seem less notable than either him or Senor C. Heimstern Läufer 19:29, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] wii

what did videlectrix add that wii-fied games? it's a bullet under 2007, is unclear, and currently not a sentence. i don't know what the author of the comment intended it to say, but it needs some work. TheDude 01:13, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

It's exactly like the others, and it is clear. The Goblin!! 01:16, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
please note the difference between Videlectrix and Viidelectrix and it's quite clear from there. — Defender1031*Talk 01:20, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
got it. feel dumb, but got it. TheDude 15:00, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Timeline Right-side Graphic

Someone should look into adding 2007's top event(s) to the graphic. At the end of 2008 it could again be edited, etc. Perhaps I'll work one up in a bit and see what people think, but feel free to beat me to it. joshr915 (talk) 21:08, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Yes, it needs to be updated. I still have the original powerpoint file somewhere (yes, oh shame! it's made in powerpoint!) and will add 2007 and maybe already 2008. For 2007, I suggest that there was no notable event, and The New Paper for the image. For 2008, I suggest youtube as a notable event. Loafing 23:49, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
You're correct in saying that 2007 didn't have any huge event. Good to know you're working on it! joshr915 (talk) 16:57, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Hey Loafing any update on the graphic progress? joshr915 (talk) 19:26, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

We already have poifect pictures for 2007 and 2008. Can we add them now? BBG 19:51, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
I was hoping Loafing would have added something by now... :( If you want to re-create it, feel free. joshr915 (talk) 20:19, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Youtube

Since Loafing mentioned putting youtube on the timeline graphic, I believe its use should also be noted under the 2008 section. Those in favor, opposed? joshr915 (talk)

Looks like somebody did it, cool. joshr915 (talk) 08:33, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
Homestar has been on Youtube for a much longer time than that! It should be moved to a different year! --Pretztailfan95 23:07, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
Nothing officially released by TBC, however. --DorianGray 23:12, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
I found this video from 2 years ago. [1] --Pretztailfan95 23:29, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
That's not officially released by TBC either. — Defender1031*Talk 03:06, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
Not true, DG: YouTube. Looking at that article, I'm not sure it needs to go on the timeline, though. It's not really a milestone, I think. Loafing 06:58, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Recent notable events (for the sidebar)

Based on the discussion of the previous incarnation of the timeline graphic, I included YouTube as a notable event for 2008, and there is nothing in 2007. I'm not so sure if YouTube should really be there (in the sidebar I mean — definitely should be in the article), unless they continue to somewhat frequently post things there. I guess we can wait and see. I think that when the game is released, it might be worthy of a spot on the sidebar, yay or nay?  Green Helmet 18:50, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

SBCG4AP will be released this year, you can be sure of that. An extremely significant event (first ever H*R game), hence, we must add it to the sidebar. Not sure about mentioning the debut of YouTube videos, since they may not post there frequently, if anymore. I mean, Strong Sad's Lament, the first H*R themed blog, isn't on there either. – The Chort 19:01, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Strong Bad CD

I didn't want an edit war, so let's discuss. Why is it not a special event for the Homestar characters to release their own album? BBG 04:35, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

I'm sorry, the burden of proof is on "why IS it" not "why ISN'T it". It's like putting sbemail_22 on there and saying "why isn't it a special event that they skipped one and came back to it?" the answer is that it has nothing to do with the evolution of the site or the business, so unless there's something that i'm missing... — Defender1031*Talk 04:37, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
I'd say it has plenty to do with the evolution of the business, at least as much to do as DVDs and Podcasts (take your favorite Homestar moments to places with no access to computers?) BBG 04:41, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
I agree with BBG. 02:34, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
I agree as well. The CD introduced a lot of new, original content, and is definitely as notable as many of the other events on here. Omnisweater 03:17, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
I concur. If Viidelectrix deserves merit, Strong Bad Sings certainly does as well. —Guard Duck talk 05:09, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

oh that is coool tapes -- 16:20, 21 November 2017 (UTC)

[edit] Compé-per

Should I add Strong Bad getting the Compé-per in the timeline? Rondleman! Stuff I did.Talk. 07 January,2009 13:00 (UTC)

Nah, The Compè-per came with the Compę, so, like our good friend The Paper, it's not much to mention. err, nevermind. I thought you were going to add another bullet. It seems fine added on. StrongAwesome 20:19, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Poker Night at the Inventory

Shouldn't Poker Night at the Inventory be added to the timeline diagram? It's the first time a cross-over ever happened between H*R characters and characters from other licenses, so it's pretty important to the Homestar Runner universe. Jennifer 01:53, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

I'm completely fine with it; if for the very least just to have something else on the timeline for 2010. Soiled Bargains (talk|ctrb) 02:01, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Mmmmm?

Are you sure "Xeriouxly Forxe" is an important part of the timeline? Couldn't "Which Ween Costumes?" be a mark since it was the last cartoon for some time? 13:05, 10 March 2016 (UTC) - XY
