Let me put this simply, the freakin' word "style" is NOT a running gag in the so-called "Homestar Runner universe." How do you people come up with this stuff? It's NOT. IT'S JUST A WORD. — Darth Katana X ( )
- I think this article should be cleaned up. The first intent was to list places where the word "style" is used in a non-convetional way, not every appearance of it. — Elcool (talk)(contribs) 08:06, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
- Darth, I have just about had it with these comments of yours. Is it that hard to say something polite like "I don't think the word "style" is a running gag. It's really just a word"? We don't have to put up with this. If I see this again, I won't hesitate to block you. Please understand, I am not objecting to the fact that you don't like this article, but rather your rudeness in writing your comment about it. Heimstern Läufer 08:31, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
- I think the problem with this article was that it had too broad a scope (see below). When you limit the scope a little, the gag becomes more apparent. — It's dot com 13:34, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Scope
I removed the following items from the list:
- Hairstyle Runner — "Style" is obviously in the title of the game.
- Email the basics — Strong Bad encourages TJ to "develop [his] own style".
- Email flag day — In the DVD commentary, Mike and Matt discuss making a style guide.
- Email techno — Strong Bad says that techno music is "not really [his] style".
- Strong Sad's Lament — One of Strong Sad's poems seems a "little too upbeat for [his] style".
- Teen Girl Squad Issue 3 — Cheerleader is "going for a whole new style".
- Email pizzaz ...and hears from The Cheat that dressing like a ship's captain is the "latest style".
I don't think they belong, because they are using the word "style" exactly as it's meant to be used. When you remove these from the list, it's more apparent that there really is a running gag going on with the other list items. (Note that I'm not sure I pruned all the ones that needed to be pruned. Some of them were close calls.) — It's dot com 13:34, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
- Good point. It's like writing an article on the word "Star" and calling it a "word running gag." — Darth Katana X ( )
[edit] This is considering deletion...
Just look at this talkpage. It's all about considering deleting it. So, the TBD sign is appropriate, so that people see it and can talk about whether they want to keep it or not. Otherwise if we come to the decision and delete it, it may confuse people why there was no tag. But hey, it's an edit by me, and no matter what I wrote, someone would have to revert it just because it's me, regardless of who's right and who's wrong! Hooray! — Darth Katana X ( )
- No need to be so cynical, Darth Katana X. But regardless of the fact that it's your edit to place the tag on the page, I don't believe the reason should be because there's a general conversation loosely wrapped around deleting the page. If you can come up with some reasons as to why the page should be deleted and is unable to be fixed otherwise, please do so. — Lapper (talk) 05:29, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
- Katana, you claimed that I supported the deletion of this page and used that as a justification to put the TBD tag on it. Apparently you misinterpreted my comments above. I support this page, with some caveats: Whenever the word style is used normally ("not really my style"), it should not go on this list. Whenever it is used for humorous purposes ("ice style cream", "buffalo style journalism"), it should go on this list. My point above is that when you take out the ones that don't belong in the list, is easier to see that the ones that remain in the list form a running gag. — It's dot com 16:22, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
- Whatever. This article really sucks the fun out of Homestar Runner, or as Joey Day once appropriately said, "squeezes the poop out of the fly." It should be deleted. — Darth Katana X ( )
(Note: I think darth is taking this waaay too sertiously. If he took a step back and actually looked at the page, I'm sure he would see that it's really not that bad.) The Big Eye 05:26, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Scope revisited
"Comedy stylings" is a common phrase used in the real world. Therefore, there's nothing notable here about the use of "style" in that context. Comments? - Qermaq - (T/C) 02:56, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- I agree. If we add theme song, we should also add stand-up, because almost the same phrase was used (comedic stylings). It sounds odd to me because the word "comedy" is used, which isn't the most correct form of the word. So makey outy 03:24, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- For what it's worth, there are quite a few hits on Google for the phrase "comedy stylings". - Qermaq - (T/C) 03:29, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Trimming
Not really a gag, just usages, or at least in my opinion:
- Decemberween in July — One of the links reads "Puppet Style".
- Scrolling Shooter Games Menu — Peasant's Quest is described as utilizing "[t]ext and graphic style!"
- haircut — Strong Bad mentions "headbrow style".
- radio — Strong Bad's email song goes "I've got miles and miles of the email style!"

My edits got reverted. Maybe I'm the only one who agrees with Darth.
- I don't know who this Darth is, but it was felt these cases were not normal. Care to defend them? - Qermaq - (T/C) 02:55, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, I see who is "Darth" (Katana) but I fail to see where your edits are in his mold. Please explain in your own terms. - Qermaq - (T/C) 02:59, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
- Well I agree with Darth in that this page is somewhat pointless, but holding that aside, I don't see simply ending a sentence with the word "style" like that as irregular. Something like "corn-style chips" is pretty odd (and rather funny), but the 4 I mentioned don't stick out as a joke to me. I also think that Nebulon's "style" isn't irregular, but it's probably the phrase that started the whole darn page so I'm not touching it. The makuta 03:03, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
- The two in question:
- Decemberween in July — One of the links reads "Puppet Style".
- Scrolling Shooter Games Menu — Peasant's Quest is described as utilizing "[t]ext and graphic style!"
- I tend to think that they both fit the gag, which seems to me to be the distinction between a noun and an adjective. When you say "Puppet style Homestar ate a balloon", that's an adjective, and not part of the gag. But when you say "Check out my Puppet Style!" I think that is part of the gag. In both of these cases, style is used as a noun, so I think they count.
- I may be wrong in the definition of the gag here — it's admittedly very difficult to discern whether some of these appearances are part of the gag or not. Trey56 03:07, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
- I agree with makuta on haircut - it's just a Portmanteau with "hairstyle", which is certainly a legit word. It's nonstandard, certainly, but "Style" isn't the nonstandard part and it shouldn't be listed here. Scrolling Shooter Games Menu should definitely stay, since it does match "something style noun", with the later noun implied to mean the game. Probably also radio, for similar reasons. I'm not sure about "Puppet Style", but I lean towards keeping it. --phlip TC 03:10, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
- I can see where's you're coming from on Scrolling Shooter Games Menu. I think "Puppet Style" is pushing it, but I still think radio should be removed too... The makuta 05:47, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Seizures
Is 'seizing' really the correct verb to put in this case of having a seizure? Or did you juys just make that up to avoid redundancy? (Image code: really annoying) — 70.108.21.176 (Talk | contribs) 12:28, 2 June 2007 (UTC) (left unsigned)
- No, I'm pretty sure the correct term is "seizure", though I'm not completely sure what you're asking. (As for the image code, if you make a user name you won't have to type image codes anymore) Homestar-Winner (talk) 12:31, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
- According to American Heritage Dictionary, "seize" can mean "to exhibit symptoms of seizure activity, usually with convulsions". So yes, "seizing" is the correct word to use in this situation. — Has Matt? (talk) 13:13, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] I got 36 styles on my mind, on my mind
I think the use of the word "Style" so much comes from the Wu-Tang Clan, especially Method Man, who seems to talk about his styles alot. Marvelrulez 13:42, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Quote source
Do we supply the source of the quote at the top if there is one? I looked at the only other page that I know has a quote, and it doesn't supply a source, however, it was created after the quote was added to this page. I personally find that the quote source doesn't really fit into the article itself and looks a bit rubbish. (Though it seems to be the first, so should it be a precedent?) - Catjaz63 01:42, 27 January 2016 (UTC)
- Indentation and a dash might help... — Defender1031*Talk 02:16, 27 January 2016 (UTC)
- The quote on Swears was added two years before this example. I made them match. — It's dot com 03:41, 27 January 2016 (UTC)
