: I did a search for "typo", "misspells", "misspelled" and "misspelling". Of all cases where Strong Bad (or some other character) misspells something and it gets noted in a Fun Fact, and it's not obviously part of a joke, it's in Real-World References once (sb_email 22, but not because of the misspelling—and I'm about to move that one to Explanations where it belongs), Remarks twice (Family Resemblence, which has already been changed, and The Luau), and Goofs at least seven times (some kinda robot, Homestar Quiz, Bug in Mouth Disease, the process, morning routine, The House That Gave Sucky Treats, and bottom 10!) It's pretty much a standard to put them in Goofs now as far as I can see. -- 04:35, 28 Aug 2005 (UTC)

I think in general, if TBC make a mistake then it's a Goof, if TBC intentionally have one of their characters make a mistake, that's a Remark, but only if it's not completely obvious to someone watching the toon. For example, Strong Bad making a typo in an email is probably TBC's mistake (unless the typo is a joke, it depends on the context), but most mistakes in PbTC toons are Remarks. 04:54, 28 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Due to the amount of time passed since I last asked, and the (seems to me) general agreement that a full transcript was not only unnecessary but legally shaky, I've gone ahead and deleted it. I was told recently by my Japanese teacher (who is, himself a native Japanese) that along with the 5-7-5 syllable count of a haiku it also must make some seasonal reference. Is this worth noting? 03:59, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

:Actually, the haiku is meant to express "the essense of nature as untouched by man" (as I recall) as opposed to senryu which has the same syllabic form but involves human nature. I suppose, after we discuss whether Strong Sad is indeed "human", we could discuss whether his "haiku" is really a "senryu". 10:09, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

How to link songs?
 +
 +
For the past few hours I've been working on converting the Posts section into a table. However, I'm wondering if I'm linking to the artists and the songs/albums in a favorable way. Right now my method is to:
 +
*Remove the Amazon link, if applicable.
 +
*Look up the artist on Wikipedia.
 +
**If a page on the artist exists, link to that page from the table.
 +
**Otherwise, leave unlinked.
 +
*Look up the song on Wikipedia.
 +
**If it redirects the song to an album by the artist, link to that page from the table.
 +
**Otherwise, in most cases leave the song unlinked (with the Poltergeist soundtrack, I just linked "Poltergeist" to Wikipedia's article on the film series).
 +
*Repeat.
 +
Should I continue to be Wikipedia biased, or should I link to Amazon? I feel like I'm rushing through this edit, and I want to make sure I'm doing this in an acceptable method already so I don't need to go back and correct this. --76.224.216.122 21:30, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

Ding! Strong Sad's Lament is a featured article, which means it showcases an important part of the Homestar Runner body of work and/or highlights the fine work of this wiki. We also might just think it's cool. If you see a way this page can be updated or improved without compromising previous work, feel free to contribute.

Meh (Declined)

"meh" is one of Strong Sad's emotions, and it also is frequently said by The Cheat.

  • Decline. It's to obvious, It's like saying Homestar's speech impediment. Meh is also an emotion meaning normal, not happy, not sad, just...meh. - Stinkoman K

Strong Bad's Lament? (Accepted but later extensively reworded)

History Lesson Part II is written in the exact style of Strong Bad, as in that the entry says Johnny Appleseed was a hippie, and calls Strong Sad "dumpus". This may be becasue Strong Sad gave out his password earlier, so Strong Bad may have hacked Strong Sad's account and written his own entry.

  • Decline. If that was true, Strong Bad would more likely write "HJLWHOUISNASNKL?A STUPID!! GUY I AM A STUPID GUY!! HA HA HA!!!!GUIS kljIUS SJ". --Trogga 14:16, 4 Apr 2005 (MDT)
  • That was one incident! You can't say that Strong Bad would write like that all the time. And you can't honestly say that sounds like Strong Sad. --VolatileChemical 20:39, 4 Apr 2005 (MDT)
  • Revise, Accept Too much speculation as written, but I must admit that it DOES look a bit more like SB's handiwork than SS's. --Jay 00:17, 5 Apr 2005 (MDT)
  • Decline I'm not seeing Strong Bad listening to a live David Bowie track... Dasrik 02:36, 5 Apr 2005 (MDT)
    • And doubt Strong Bad could draw that good. --Trogga 11:42, 5 Apr 2005 (MDT)
    • We ARE talking about the same Strong Bad, right...?
  • You're using his art and musical tastes as an argument? Strong Bad's drawings of Trogdor during the theme is just as good as Saddy Dumpington, and Strong Sad would not call himself Dump*, let alone call anyone a hippie. And Strong Bad's character in no way reflects his music choices. --VolatileChemical 16:15, 5 Apr 2005 (MDT)
    • What makes you think the drawings at the end of dragon are Strong Bad's? --Trogga 17:43, 5 Apr 2005 (MDT)
      • What makes you think the Saddy Dumpington drawing is Strong Sad's? --Jay 17:54, 5 Apr 2005 (MDT)
    • My point is, TBC would never make a joke that subtle. For example, Pumpkin Carve-nival didn't end without proofing who really judged the pumpkins. This "fact" is almost silly as ye old Homestar prank call debate. --Trogga 17:35, 7 Apr 2005 (MDT)
      • So you're saying it DOES look like the kind of thing Strong Sad would write, what with all the typical Strong Bad comments? ("Dumpington", "freaking", "hippie", etc.) --Jay 18:35, 7 Apr 2005 (MDT)
    • Yes/Maybe, I highly doubt Strong Bad would praise Francis Scott Key. --Trogga 19:10, 7 Apr 2005 (MDT)
  • Oh, and thanks to whoever added "Strong Bad's Lament to this section. --VolatileChemical 16:16, 5 Apr 2005 (MDT)
  • Vote change! Yup, I'm changing my vote. To a simple Accept. I didn't notice that his password really WAS given out on the page! I'm still pretty confident that the writing style and choice of words look more like SB than SS. --Jay 18:00, 5 Apr 2005 (MDT)
  • Accept Lord Pikachon
  • Accept Like Jay said above, I also don't think Strong Sad would use the words "freaking" and "hippie". I also don't think he "rocks out", even orchestrally, but that's just my opinion. --acekirby13 19:23, 7 Apr 2005 (MDT)

I challenge this, now that Strong Sad, in the new toon, claims to have invented Saddy Dumpington. It sounds like Strong Bad, but we have no reason to doubt Strong Sad when he says that he made Saddy Dumpington.

Since the release of A Folky Tale, this item has been extensively reworded to account for the apparent contradictions between the style of the post and the fact that Strong Sad claims to have made up Saddy Dumpintgon. — It's dot com 14:46, 23 Aug 2005 (UTC)

I propose moving it from Remarks to its own section. I originally created a new section called "Continuity Errors" for the reworded version (c.f the diff), but Pertmywert reverted it. With respect to Pertmywert, I feel that this revert was rather hasty (it was reverted only two minutes after I posted my edits!) and without merit, and I would like to ask for a vote on it. With the release of the new toon and the increased length of the reworded version, I think it's important enough to deserve its own section. — 68.46.120.170 17:41, 23 Aug 2005 (EDT)

If it were to be in its own section, I don't think Continuity Errors fits, because the explanations offered are not really errors. I think it fits as a remark (a long remark), because essentially it's one comment on one of Strong Sad's posts. — It's dot com 21:52, 23 Aug 2005 (UTC)
Perhaps a subsection? And it doesn't have to be called Continuity Errors; there's probably a better name out there somewhere. I just have two main concerns: 1) the remark is so much bigger than all the others, possibly distracting from them; and 2) it's hard to properly left-align an indented sublist that contains a newline. (The second concern could of course be allayed by a friendly Formatting Gnome. ☺) — 68.46.120.170 22:27, 23 Aug 2005 (UTC)
The way you've fixed it looks good so far. — It's dot com 22:35, 23 Aug 2005 (UTC)
I know this ended a long time ago, but I still want my say: I think they were over-thinking it. Simple answer to this "mystery": It's hard to come up with different mannerisms for each character. I think TBC just slipped up. HaldoHelscome!

Grim Reaper

  • Is it worth noting that the grim reaper appers both here on Strong Sad's lament as well as in Experimental Film (though in the latter, Strong Sad is in the GR costume)?
Nah, it just fits Strong Sad's personality. Always looking at the darker side of things.

Where was the box under strong sad's bed that had a slide show of strong bad and strong sad as kids??

The Secrets That I KeepBazookaJoe 09:24, 12 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Goofs vs. Typos

"Goofs" are mistakes TBC make; for the purposes of our discussion, Strong Sad made the mistakes on this page. We don't note mistakes Strong Bad makes in his emails as Goofs; rather, we note them in the Remarks. Since there were enough of Strong Sad's mistakes for a whole section, I changed it to "Typos". — It's dot com 22:07, 17 Aug 2005 (UTC)

I'm not really the guy who would know the difference. I only made that change for two reasons:
  1. "Typos" isn't one of the ways we categorize Fun Facts. Goofs is.
  2. The Francis Scott Key fact is a Goof. I knew it wasn't a typo, so I changed the header to Goofs for lack of a better choice for that particular grouping.
That being said, the Key fact is probably the only one of the four that are currently under that header that really is a Goof. The typos by Strong Sad should probably be moved to another section. Maybe Remarks? -- Tom 22:35, 17 Aug 2005 (UTC)
Goofs may be our standard category, but we are flexible enough to accomodate a special category on a toon-by-toon basis. For example, Homestar's attempts at Deleted. I think these should be grouped together since there are several of them. How about "Strong Sad's Goofs", or "Strong Sad's Mistakes", or something similar? — It's dot com 22:42, 17 Aug 2005 (UTC)
That's true, and we also have Strong Bad's List Of Three Letter Words. Since this is kind of a special case, I think Dot Com made the right call on THIS one, but as a rule, I think keeping to just the usual catagories would be best. Thunderbird 22:23, 20 Aug 2005 (UTC)
Er, I'm confused. No one is suggesting not using the usual categories, as a rule. But when something falls outside the usual categories, which this does, we use a special category to accomodate it. — It's dot com 23:10, 20 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Sorry for bringing this up again, but aren't all of the typos technically TBC's (unless obviously part of a joke)? And since when do typos get put in Remarks rather than Goofs? They shouldn't... --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 04:19, 28 Aug 2005 (UTC)

I did a search for "typo", "misspells", "misspelled" and "misspelling". --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 04:35, 28 Aug 2005 (UTC)

--phlip TC 04:54, 28 Aug 2005 (UTC)

My thoughts exactly. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 04:56, 28 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Has anyone investigated to see if this is a screename maintained by TBC? Just curious. --Alcnolien

I was wondering that myself! 24.62.243.222 22:31, 18 Aug 2005 (UTC)

I've added it to my buddy list. Anyone who also does so, let someone know if it's logged on to. --Alcnolien

I've had it for quite a whiles now, and never has anyone logged into it. It is registered, so it's possible TBC registered it to prevent people from using it and then decided to never sign on with it. Same with other Characters that have shown a AIM/IM account name within toons, none of them has logged on in the past year as far as I can tell. -Mick

Tagline Dates

Are all of those taglines from 2004? I think that whoever added them in the first place, or whoever knows the correct year(s), should add them to the dates. If possible. Thunderbird 22:27, 20 Aug 2005 (UTC)

.2 Homsar

I think it's more likely Homsar is .6 of a person, and he checked it twice.  :) Thunderbird 00:31, 24 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Or he could be .4 of a person, and checked it thrice! ;) — It's dot com

With the new sbemail (the paper) Homsar has a .4 four his number. "It's dot com" seems to know a little too much... 68.7.41.47 02:05, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Transcript

Should we really have the transcript of every one of SS's entries on this page? It looks kind of cluttered and people can just go to the page itself. It's not like toons with sound, where someone might not be able to tell what they said.

I've wondered this as well. It's not like we're transcribing something... just copy and paste. — It's dot com 03:38, 31 Aug 2005 (UTC)
Also, this wiki is supposed to be a supplement to the actual site. Well, in the case of this page, I'd say it replaces the actual site. I believe this crosses the copyright-infringement line to a degree we should not be able to get away with. The final reference should always be at H*R.com, not here. (This is also why I don't think we should have the images from the Original Book and Where My Hat Is At? on the wiki. It's another case where we're completely duplicating something you should be able to see at the official site.) — It's dot com 03:44, 31 Aug 2005 (UTC)

I agree with this, but is someone going to delete the transcript? Shall I? Trelawney 04:46, 12 March 2006 (UTC)

Due to the amount of time passed since I last asked, and the (seems to me) general agreement that a full transcript was not only unnecessary but legally shaky, I've gone ahead and deleted it. I hope I haven't offended anyone, and if you object, feel free to post an argument for its return here. Trelawney 21:46, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

My only suggestion is to remember to put something like "see talk" when you delete such a large chunk of information so that people know it's not vandalism or an accident. — It's dot com 05:19, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

...give me a hand?...or not.

I was just about to ask someone to give me a hand updating this page, because I don't have the general knowledge to fill in all the references, but I see tomstiff is already on the case. Thanks for the help!

Bust of Bubo

In different town, Strong Sad is going to a Clash Of The Titans convention. Strong Bad then requested a bust of Bubo. Tomstiff believes that he wanted to borrow the one Strong Sad already had; I got the impression that he wanted Strong Sad to bring something back from the convention. (Why bring this up here? It's mentioned in a Fun Fact for this article.) --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 19:20, 1 Sep 2005 (UTC)

I have always assumed that Strong Sad wanted to borrow Bubo to augment his costume. I can see exactly what you're saying, though! Hmmmm ... -- tomstiff 19:26, 1 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Can't be - Strong Bad asks for it from Strong Sad (or, more accurately, Strong Sad asks Strong Bad if he "still wants it" and Strong Bad says "yes.") --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 19:29, 1 Sep 2005 (UTC)
I think I see where you're coming from now, and I admit that that option never really occurred to me. Still, I think (given Strong Bad's reaction and the wording of the question) that it makes more sense as Strong Sad bringing it back from the convention. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 19:36, 1 Sep 2005 (UTC)
While the souvenir idea never occured to me, I think you're probably right. I tweaked the wording just a little to reflect that. -- tomstiff 20:09, 1 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Live Journal

I just found this on the Wikipedia Homestar Runner entry. Strong Sad has a Live Journal. It's at http://www.livejournal.com/users/strongsad/ It appears to be mostly a coply of SSL, which is why I mentioned it here. Does anybody think we ought to mention it? — User:ACupOfCoffee@ 05:52, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

I think yes, as there are some interesting differences between the two. Try checking his profile too for some interesting related info... --DorianGray

Oh-kay, I added it as a fun fact. — User:ACupOfCoffee@ @ 07:54, 19 December 2005 (UTC)
I think it's pretty awesome. My guess that this was a forerunner to Strong Sad's Lament, a sort of test before they put it into the HR domain. Purely speculation, but reasonable. --DorianGray
No, the first post says that somebody reading SSL turned him on to LiveJournal, and he decided to start one for greater visibility. — User:ACupOfCoffee@ @ 08:32, 19 December 2005 (UTC)
What? It also says that the Live Journal was made in 2002. Has Matt? (talk) 12:29, 19 December 2005 (UTC)
Yup. Exactly one day after the first entry on SSL. — User:ACupOfCoffee@ @ 06:54, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

Upon close inspection, I think that Tom may be right. Maybe we better leave it out until we know more about it. — User:ACupOfCoffee@ @ 07:47, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

Agreed. I just read it and while entertaining, it sounds like fanstuff. Besides the person spelled Coach Z's name with a hyphen. Who does that? —Zelinda 14:01, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

Fair Use?

Due to the recent conversation and activity regarding Fan Costume Commentaries, Original Book, etc, all about overstepping fair use; does this page also fall in that category? In it's current state, I'm inclined to say yes. But I'd like a bit of further input. Thunderbird 09:07, 19 December 2005 (UTC)

Probably. — User:ACupOfCoffee@ @ 06:55, 20 December 2005 (UTC)
Because you can already copy&paste the text in the lament, I wouldn't mind seeing this text here being removed. Although it really would take the heart out of this article... - Joshua 14:13, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

Apparently this conversation has already taken place a couple of sections above. — User:ACupOfCoffee@ @ 23:07, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

And yet it's still left transcribed... I admit I was the one that originally did it. Perhaps downgrade it to just a list of Taglines, Avatars, Summaries of his posts, etc, and note in the article summary that it's purposfully left incomplete, and that a simple click of a link will get you to all the entries. I dunno, I think it's more legal the other way, but I like having it all here too. Thorax Corp is having similar discussions. Thunderbird 04:51, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

Pallor O' Mine?

Is it noteworthy that Strong Sad refers to his own pallor two years to the day after Coach Z does in impression? He doesn't say "deathly", which may scuttle it, but if you think it works... Nyperold 19:32, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

Haiku requirements.

I was told recently by my Japanese teacher (who is, himself a native Japanese) that along with the 5-7-5 syllable count of a haiku it also must make some seasonal reference. Is this worth noting? —NFITC1talk 03:59, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

Actually, the haiku is meant to express "the essense of nature as untouched by man" (as I recall) as opposed to senryu which has the same syllabic form but involves human nature. I suppose, after we discuss whether Strong Sad is indeed "human", we could discuss whether his "haiku" is really a "senryu". Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 10:09, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

avatars

I've seen that some of the avatars on this page are converted from jpg to png, while some remain in jpg form. This seems a little inconsistant to me. Should I go ahead and change them all to pngs, or re-upload the ones that are already pngs back to the original? (except for the animated morpheus GIF, of course. - link_icon.gifThe Joe(Talk) 23:55, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Ideally, we should have them in their original format. All the old images can probably be found here if you feel like checking to see whether some of them are in a different format than we currently have on this page. Trey56 00:57, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
Actually, why don't you hold off before you do anything; I have reason to believe there might be a reason some of them are in a different format. Maybe someone else can comment on this... Trey56 01:00, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

Radar O'Reilly

On Strong Sad's 'kipedia article, someone compared his voice to a "rather deflated Radar O'Reilly." He used O'Reilly as an avatar. So, anything worth noting? --Jnelson09 19:28, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

I kinda can't find this one

I must have looked through all the archives five or more times by now and I still can't find the post where Strong Sad claims to be a nudist. What date is it from? Bad Bad Guy 01:22, 18 March 2007 (UTC) I'll just move that post to the talk page for the article that mentioned Strong Sad posting that...Bad Bad Guy 21:39, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Days of the Week

Regarding this edit, I partially disagree. While the paragraph dates make it cluttered, the Taglines dates do not detract, and not only that, many of the updates were made on Thursdays which is somewhat notable. At the very least, the months should be worded out and not abbreviated. --Stux 04:23, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

In the Fast Forward category it says that the emoticons on 'virus' are not the same as the blog. ...Yes they are. Aren't they? It says up on the emoticon list several of them with <<(on email 'virus) next to them. Is this a valid fast forward comment? --Abelhawk 19:55, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

The associated text was not the same. --DorianGray 19:59, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

The sungod bit

The whole bit about the hopi sungod... that picture was from the inside of a tower built by the hopi native americans that's at the Grand Canyon. I saw it when visiting over thanksgiving. Shouldn't that be worth mentioning? — 66.188.18.10 (Talk | contribs) 06:47, 6 December 2008 (UTC) (left unsigned)

Well, I think it is! But first I'd need to find a legitimate link on it to support it. I wonder if there's one more landform or other historical item that is a Strong sad look-alike, then we could have a new article! --76.224.216.122 19:30, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

What ever happened to SSL?

Why doesen't StrongS update his Blog User:TwO_2_bReAdS_iN_a_BiScUt

TBC have more important things to do, and the fact Strong Sad's Lament is only accessible through Email 51 probably leaves them to assume not enough people read it to make it a high priority. BBG 22:38, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
This is a question that could be even better explained or speculated about on the forum. —Guard Duck talk 22:59, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

How to link songs?

For the past few hours I've been working on converting the Posts section into a table. However, I'm wondering if I'm linking to the artists and the songs/albums in a favorable way. Right now my method is to:

  • Remove the Amazon link, if applicable.
  • Look up the artist on Wikipedia.
    • If a page on the artist exists, link to that page from the table.
    • Otherwise, leave unlinked.
  • Look up the song on Wikipedia.
    • If it redirects the song to an album by the artist, link to that page from the table.
    • Otherwise, in most cases leave the song unlinked (with the Poltergeist soundtrack, I just linked "Poltergeist" to Wikipedia's article on the film series).
  • Repeat.

Face Painting

So I went to the Great Canyon in AZ a while ago and guess what I found: clicky

It's on the inside wall of this tower. There are actually a few Strong Sad heads in there. I'm adding this to Trivia/Fun facts unless someone decides it isn't worth a mention.
