Fanstuff Discussion

I was the one who originally said this was better left for being on the fanstuff wiki (I put the deleted thing on, but Tabacco removed it I guess). Anyone else thinks this should be put as fanstuff? Because it's not a part of the official homestarrunner.com site. ColdReactive

This differs from fanstuff, as this is an official licensed Homestar Runner game (like the long-delayed Homestar Runner RPG or the appearance of "Trogdor" in Guitar Hero). Since it is official licensed (and even being "developed" by Videletrix), then this will be documented by the regular Wiki. The same thing would count towards things like Strong Bad Gameways or any of the live appearances. wbwolf (t | ed) 17:33, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
Yup, exactly right. Trey56 17:43, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
Besides, it's mentioned on the official Homestar Runner site! --Jay (Talk) 17:47, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
Game News Soon doesn't direct to anything, so it may not be possible this is the same thing. But whatever. Close this mess. ColdReactive
The news isn't supposed to be revealed in full for another hour and forty-five minutes. Keep your pants on, for real. Anyway, it's fairly obvious that this game and the notice on the site are related. --Jay (Talk) 18:16, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Info For you!

Intrepid editors may find this page helpful. It's not 100% done yet but since we're running late we wanted to get something up with more info. --Tabacco 22:22, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Heyyyyy, the whole site is up now! --Tabacco 22:52, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

And you can play too!

Too bad this game can't be played by me. Not everyone's good enough to get a Wii. Although the article says it's also for the PC, I highly doubt that will be a reality. It makes me so frustrated when new consoles come out. Especially onces that cost over 200 USD, when I could get something productive (Like Photoshop CS3 Extended) for 320 USD. Which I will get 'cause I have no Wii. Why not get the wii, you ask? Because I want my damnz photoshop! Been entirely too long since I last had it. ColdReactive

It will be out for the PC. Guaranteed. --Tabacco 23:13, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
What retailers will you be distributing to? Target? Wal-Mart? If it's K-Mart, I advise against it. Madison, WI has no K-Marts whatsoever. Also, will it be good for only Vista? Because I can't switch to Vista, my computer won't allow me to upgrade my BIOS to do so. Besides, dozens upon dozens of users say Vista is crap for Gaming. ColdReactive
Our first run distribution is almost always through our website as downloads. With Sam & Max, we released the games as downloads and then once the whole season was over we assembled a disc and offered it up free to season subscribers. Not sure if that's what we're doing for Strong Bad (nobody tells me anything fun), but they will be available to download from our site. And no, they won't be Vista only. Our system spec is pretty generous in fact, so it shouldn't require too new and crazy a computer. --Tabacco 23:18, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
Do you expect people to buy over the Internet only? Or are the downloads free? Because I somewhat despise Internet purchasing. Of course, I do have a Debit Card (Sorry, will never, ever use a Credit Card) if I so need to do an online transaction. But I haven't used the card in over 4 months. ColdReactive
It sounds like Tabacco answered this in his last post: they'll certainly be available for download, but if that's not an option for you, it's possible that they will be eventually released on disc format. Trey56 23:24, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
Some sites require you to pay for certain downloads though. Like "Adobe Extend." ColdReactive
Yep, this game will cost money, just as the exclusive DVD content does through the Homestar Runner store. It's good too; I've often wondered if there was a way for TBC to make some money off of their games! Fans have been able to support them by buying DVDs for a while, so I think this is great. Trey56 23:30, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
Still awaiting answer for if we have to buy over the Internet, or if we can send in check/money orders. ColdReactive
We also accept Paypal and Wire Transfer. You can use the latter if you like. --Tabacco 23:42, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
You stil didn't say if I can use check or money order though; I will only use them. If you can't do money order / etc. it's better off not to purchase. Not everyone likes the Internet... I'm sure not liking it anymore... I've been distancing myself from it more and more. ColdReactive
No, we don't take checks or money order. You sound pretty determined not to purchase, so I'm not sure why you're so insistent on pushing the issue, honestly. I think we can call this closed. --Tabacco 00:01, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
Well, since homestarrunner.com's toons always seems to reference old technology (with the exception of the cheat's computer, and Pom'Pom's technology) it makes sense to allow people to send you checks and money orders. Mind you, checks are not as old as regular legal tender >>; I was originally going to try out this game in the future, but you've made me not want to. Not like it'd support an Intel GFX Card anydangway. ColdReactive

This talk page is for discussing the contents of the article, not about whether someone will buy the game or not. Please limit discussions as this one to our forum or the Telltale Games Forums. Thank you. Loafing 13:55, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

New trailer on GT

Ok so on Gametrailers.com They have a new trailer for it!!! check it out [1] Coach B| PRANK CALL!|

Actually, that's the same thing as this. DevonM(talk·cont-ribs)

Legal Rampage Issue

Transcripts are at the heart of our wiki, allowing us to have a reference guide for Homestarrunner.com and to save us the hassle of sitting through an entire toon to check a line or scene. With this in mind, to what extent will we transcribe the game? I'm against the idea of recording EVERY single line for two reasons: firstly, it would be a massive job to do. Undoubtedly there'll be tens of thousands of lines of dialogue throughout the game and it'll be impossible to find and store them all. The second reason is for legal issues: it seems to be OK to transcribe toons on the website since the transcripts won't significantly affect page views to the website and the toons are free in the first place. This game, on the other hand, will not be: the point of buying and playing the game is to find the dialogue yourself. And I don't want Telltale's lawyers to hit this wiki with a cease-and-desist order if they feel our actions harm the sales of their game. However, I think it'd still be OK to write walkthroughs and post Fun Facts on the game, in a similar manner to other websites. – The Chort 19:42, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

A few minor stylistic things aside, I think the best way to "transcribe" this game (I don't think that's the right word) would be entirely similar to Thy Dungeonman II however, without creating the companion page Thy Dungeonman II Messages. This system would give us the fun facts and the walk-through and the glitches and the tips and everything else that you would expect from The Wiki, without any of the legal or commercial issues you spoke of. I mean Tabacco seems to be very involved in The Wiki (at least concerning SBCG4AP), and with Telltale's consent I see no problem making a Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People Messages page or something of that ilk (but with FAR fewer syllables). Flashfight 08:56, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
Exactly; we seem to have plenty of communication with Telltale through Tabacco, so I'm sure that we can make sure whatever we do is acceptable to them (and TBC). It would be nice to have everything transcribed (transcriptions of game messages aren't a substitute for playing the game, in the same way that you don't forget about watching the cartoons and just read the transcripts - but even more so, as it's interactive), but obviously that depends on their wishes. -- Mithent 09:51, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
I can't see how there'd be a legal issue *period* if we thoroughly "mapped out" this game. If there *was*, GameFAQs wouldn't exist. Furthermore, I've seen numerous "Game Scripts" there. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if someone beat us to it. Exhibit A -YKHi. I'm Ayjo! 05:03, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
Second. There's stuff on GameFAQs that's much more in-depth than is sane, even for us. Plus, we transcribe DVD-only content all the time, and TBC don't mind. And since TBC are working so close with Telltale, I doubt they'd let them sue us either. --DorianGray 05:20, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
I don't think there would be an issue with that sort of thing, but if someone 'offcially' associated with the wiki wants to shoot me an email, I can put them in contact with someone to be sure that it would be cool. There are lawyers lurking 'round every corner, but we generally prefer enabling awesomeness over litigiousness in everything we do at Telltale. Also, for what its worth, each episode will have ... a lot ... of dialog. TTGJake 06:58, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Related note, what about the Dev Blog! "written" by Strong Bad on the Telltales Games site? Any plans of documenting that on the Wiki? There could be a whole mess of running gags hidden in that... wbwolf (t | ed) 20:23, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

That is in fact written by Strong Bad. Well, it's written by TBC, which is close enough, right? :) TTGJake 06:53, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
I believe the Dev Blog is not being documented for the same reasons why Strong Sad's Lament isn't: that it's just duplicating large chunks of text from the website, that "it replaces the actual site" and that it would cross "the copyright-infringement line to a degree we should not be able to get away with.". However, if the posts start being removed or if the website is eventually shut down, backed-up transcripts and images will be added to the article. – The Chort 16:41, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
The way that the SBCG4AP Dev Blog is being handled now (summarizing posts, pointing out specific references) is perfectly fine. At the time I wrote that bit, there wasn't a page started to note the contents. I think a similar approach should be used with the games, simply because of the volume of dialog involved, the non-linear nature of the game play, and potential legal issues. Particular pieces (such as openings, previews or set pieces) could be transcribed, proved proper clearances are granted first, but a wholesale transcription would be impractical. Noting references, goofs, etc.? Fair game. wbwolf (t | ed) 16:30, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

New gameplay/interview video

There's a video here showing off some of the gameplay (including Snake Boxer V footage), as well as an interview with some of the developers (I assume this is new, I didn't see it mentioned on the page anywhere). I think IGN are going to interview TBC about the game tomorrow, but I'm not sure... --videlectrix.pngENUSY discussionitem_icon.gif user.gifmail_icon.gif 12:07, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

On a related note, it looks like the Kotaku review of the game demo has some more detailed information that was is revealed in the Game Videos piece. wbwolf (t | ed) 18:03, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

External link organization

Since it looks like this game will produce a large number of external links (IGN et al. game reviews, material from Telltale, forums), how should we organize them? Traditionally, we've put forum links on the bottom (which in this case would include both Telltale's and ours), and material directly from Telltale at the top. But should we make subsections for each? I'm trying to think of scalability at this point. wbwolf (t | ed) 16:40, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

I think you're right, it will helpful to have them divided up into sub-sections. I liked what you did, but I tried reorganizing it a bit differently. Not sure if it's optimal yet; maybe we'll have to wait to see what kinds of external links we end up getting as it's released. Trey56 16:53, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Screenshots

This may sound silly, but how do you accses the screenshots on the Tell Tale site?

Not silly at all — scroll down to the end of the dev blog, and just below them on the left-hand side of the page are four TV screen-shaped pictures. Click on one of them to bring up the screenshots. Hope that helps! Trey56 13:29, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

question!

So will this be available on the Wii Shop Channel under the WiiWare section and can I buy it with Wii points? Becausue if not I can't buy it! --Acam30 20:53, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Yes, you'll be able to get it off the Wii Shop Channel. Don't worry. It's for both PC and WiiWare. --DorianGray 20:58, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
Just curious to find out why you can't buy it. Do you not have a Wii? If that's the case, then disregard my next statement. If you do, Wii Points can be each purchase directly through the Wii or purchasing a Wii Points card at many fine retailers. Hopefully, Telltale will announce how many Wii points each episode will be. wbwolf (t | ed) 21:07, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

No I have a Wii. It's just that my parents have this weird thing about using credit cards on sites the don't consider "certified". I told them it's through Nintendo and that this website is TBC's JOB but they're just weirdos. So I could only get it by buying the card. Thanks for the info! --Acam30 00:10, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

POM-POMMED??

Did I miss a screenshot/video of Pom Pom? Oh, sure, I count his appearance as likely, but has he actually appeared yet? If not, I think we should remove him from the page. --Jay (Talk) 22:16, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Pom Pom was among the crowd listening to Strong Bad at the end of SBCG4AP Advertisement. Would that count? wbwolf (t | ed) 18:15, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
No...that doesn't mean he'll appear in the game (I'm sure he will, though). DevonM(talk·cont-ribs) 19:55, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
Though I put it in an edit summary, I thought I'd better mention it here. Telltale Games currently sells certain HR products, among which are the figurines labeled "Series #1" at the Store. The description confirms that all nine characters shown are in the game .. and Pom Pom is shown. I quote: "Nine of the characters featured in Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People" [2]. OptimisticFool 00:21, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
I'm going to be pretty grumpy though if that rules out Homsar, who was in Season 2 Figurines. He is a main character after-all. Gerkuman 13:54, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
That need not be the case; it didn't say "All nine". I'd be surprised if Homsar doesn't turn up somewhere. -- Mithent 23:32, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Realease Date

Do we know the presise release date of the first installment of the game, or just that it'll be out in June? I know I'm not the only guy who wants it the second it comes out... SuperfieldCreditUnion

I think we just know it'll be out in June... I assume that they'll give an exact date once we get closer to June though. --Acam30 17:36, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

The dates for WiiWare games are decided entirely by Nintendo, so I'm not sure if Telltale can even give an exact date for the Wii version. The PC version will either have a fixed date, or something like "X days after the Wii version". --videlectrix.pngENUSY discussionitem_icon.gif user.gifmail_icon.gif 14:36, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

Cost?

Any word on what the cost will be yet? --Acam30 17:37, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

The Telltale guys wrote it will be like other episodic games they make. Which means about 9$ (US). Elcool (talk)(contribs) 17:46, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Episode One Info VS the IGN preview

Ok, thanks to the preview on the telltale official site, I think we can theorise that the IGN preview actually happens after the scenes in the trailer. 'Homestar Runner invades Strong Bad's house and Bogarts his style.' Of course, it could also be that the trailer scenes are actually a flashback.

Either way, we can't be sure that the game begins with the IGN preview anymore, so I was wondering what we should do about itGerkuman 14:02, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

I was thinking the same thing. The preview for Homestar Ruiner seems to take place before Homestar hides in the basement for indecency. From the various reviews, though, it is clear that the preview was still an early build. (For example, the GameCyte review mentions that a plot clue is found under a cardboard box in the middle of the field, but the actual game, the clue location would be more challenging.) I would suspect that Strong Bad going directly from his song to talking to Homestar is a similar splice, and nobody knows what the final sequence will be until it's released in to the wild. wbwolf (t | ed) 14:13, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

what is the url for the ign preview? and why isn't it on the wiki? --Acam30 19:55, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

The IGN videos are listed under Press Releases and Promotional Videos. The first two (GameVideos.com and IGN.com) have the footage you are looking for. wbwolf (t | ed) 21:04, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Mii likey, mii likey!

So I noticed Telltale is having a contest to design the H*R characters in Mii form and receive Homestar Ruiner as a gift on their Wii. (For those not in the know, downloads can be paid for by Wiis other than the one receiving it.) What I was wondering is, is this contest worthy of its own article or not? This whole development is so...other sitey...that I'm still having trouble wrapping my brain around what's Wikiable and what's not. Opinions? --Onamuji (b/w T. C.  ) 13:53, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

I don't think so, because it's a contest, and we don't normally advertise those here (as far as I know).
Given that there has never before been an officially licensed homestar related contest as far5 as i know, that would make it lack of precedent, not that we don't do it. We haven't done it because THEY haven't done it. That being said, is it homestar-related? it is official? yes. therefore, i think maybe we should. — Defender1031*Talk 18:54, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

The King of Town's Castle

The King of Town's Castle is listed as a confirmed place, but have we actually seen any videos or screenshots with the King of Town's catstle? -PeterImage:Petersig.png

No, but the plot of Homestar Ruiner informs that one of the tasks to do will be getting files from the KOT's Castle. DevonM(talk·cont-ribs) 18:54, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Getting grumpy...

So do we know at least around what time of the month it's coming out? Like early June or mid-June or closer to July? Not to sound impatient but... aw screw it. I AM impatient! --Acam30 17:44, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

It's been delayed to July. I'm looking forward to it too, but I'm glad they're taking the time to polish it! Trey56 18:11, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

T For Teen

Ok we were all surprised it got a t ranking but i bet they TellTale did so on purpose and made the esrb think it was worse than it really was for the moneymaking t rating. and mild suggestive content (if it is not a telltale tall tale) is probably something like saying home run or some other extremely mild euphism. Who agrees? Zelda games do it all the time. Physicsguymonsterman 01:00, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Most of the cartoons on the site would get a T rating as well, if the ESRB system is used. I mean, just look at emails like lady fan, sisters, dreamail, do over... plenty of suggestive themes there (without even mentioning Coach Z's problems), and the Teen Girl Squad comics probably fulfil the requirements for mild cartoon violence. The Poopsmith pretty much covers crude humour. --videlectrix.pngENUSY discussionitem_icon.gif user.gifmail_icon.gif 09:34, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
The ESRB ratings are: Early Childhood, Everyone, Everyone 10+, Teen, Mature, Adults Only and Rating Pending. As you can see, Teen is the most suitable rating since the game probably contains "contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humor, minimal blood, simulated gambling, and/or infrequent use of strong language." (The PEGI equivalant is 12+.) Undoubtably, there'll be Teen Girl Squad, references to making out, and maybe some whatsit, blood and crap. So I'm assuming TGS is what bumped it up, unless the game contains very illegal pony fights. – The Chort 13:56, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
Cartoon Violence and rude humor can be in e 10(i think tgs might fit into e actually) whatever the suggestive material is and it would have to be a little but more mature than making out is why it is teen so i think hmmm maybe telltale told theesrb that there was sug mat. even though its making out scince esrb doesnt play the games.
I doubt TTG would just tell the ESRB that there was more mature material than it would normally be. As for suggestive material, according to the ESRB website, minimal suggestive material (as long as there's nothing else that would give it a higher rating) can credit a E rating. Suggestive material also is descripted as "Mild provocative references or materials". I'm not sure what else would qualify for the "mild suggestive themes", but remember that the crude humor and mild cartoon violence might merit a "T" rating themselves. DevonM(talk·cont-ribs) 14:32, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, just look at Brawl. Cartoon Violence and Crude Humor, and it's T. SuperfieldCreditUnion

Europe?

Is this game going to be available in Europe for the Wii?--84.251.87.171 19:42, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

I can't imagine why not... it's WiiWare remember? — Defender1031*Talk 19:44, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
The game has been PEGI rated, so I'd expect that it will come out. Hopefully, Telltale won't run into the same bottleneck that the Pop developers did while releasing in Europe (the game can be entirely in English, but the manual must be written in every language that can be selected on a PAL Wii's system menu). Also, we'll probably get it on the Friday instead of the Monday, but that's standard for WiiWare. --videlectrix.pngENUSY discussionitem_icon.gif user.gifmail_icon.gif 04:39, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
Okay, thanks! It's just that the Nintendo Website for my country (Finland) is extremely pissy and never seems to contain relevant info on what's to be expected on WiiWare or VC. I have to go to Wikipedia most of the time. There isn't any real info on this matter at the official website either. --84.251.87.171 12:42, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
