Uniformity

The fact that these dates won't line up is driving me nuts. Is there some snippet of code we can use to add a date in a sort of uniform manner? -- AgentSeethroo 13:38, 11 Aug 2004 (MST)

Ask and ye shall receive. Actually, I came here to ask you if you liked the table, but found your note. You like? -- Tom 13:50, 11 Aug 2004 (MST)
Yeah, it looks wicked! I looked at the code, and even though it's probably rudimentary HTML, I'm lost on it. That's probably gonna be your thing. -- AgentSeethroo 13:55, 11 Aug 2004 (MST)
Okay, I did the whole thing. It looks kind of weird now, since some of the quotes are so long. I don't like how the date and download links get moved down. How about another form of writing the date? I tried another one in the first three, check it out. -- Tom 14:05, 11 Aug 2004 (MST)
It looks pretty good, but not uniform, ya know? How can we make the long quotey ones look...not jacked up? -- AgentSeethroo 14:09, 11 Aug 2004 (MST)
Yeah. This might be of some help. I think this might be the most confusing Wiki format there is. Maybe someone else has some ideas... Joey? -- Tom 14:17, 11 Aug 2004 (MST)
This may be a stupid question, but can you use html throughout MediaWiki? Or just when creating tables? -- AgentSeethroo 14:38, 11 Aug 2004 (MST)
I think it works everywhere. Strong? Em? Strike? Tt? Yup. Well, at least those tags work. But it's important to use wikitext where possible. I know that's one thing that Wikignomes do on Wikipedia, they fix someone's crazy HTML and make it simple to understand wikitext. -- Tom 15:20, 11 Aug 2004 (MST)

404'd

Um hath anys peoples realized that half thy links have been 404'd? --Clever Dan 17:42, 9 Oct 2004 (MST)

Yeah, if someone happens to have those quotes mirrored, it would be great to be able to link to them. --oddtodd 14:45, 22 Nov 2004 (MST)
Okay, I have a mirror for a few of them. Most of them I don't have, though. --FatPamPam

Also, if you keep pressing the QotW button, you don't just get Homestar's broken speech bubble, but you also get a frame where he's saying 'undefined' -- Matt 16:59, 25 Nov 2004 (MST)

blabittablough

Am I the only one that hears a very clear z at the beginning of the last "word" of the 12/16 quote? I suggested "zabbitablough" as a more accurate transcription, but it was reverted. (BTW, I agree with "blabittablough" in the actual email, but this sounds different.)

I hear a "Z," as well. -- FortyTwo
Yup. That's definitely a Z. Try changing it again.

Well, it says "zabittablough" on the QOD thing.--oopsyoubwokeit 14:26, 25 Mar 2005 (MST)

I think it's a "Z"-Catman87

QoD files

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone was interested in these files I found on my HD. If so, I could upload them somewhere for a while. They seem to all be QoDs, though I can't be sure. (One of them (sb_possums.zip) might not be the original download, but a rezip.)

HRWiki Mirror Uploads

Is there any way for users to upload files to hrwiki.org/mirror? --Gafaddict 27 Feb 2005, 22:23 (GMT)

Error

Hi my name is Jess. I have never done wiki before.

I was looking at this quote:

Strong Bad: Oh. Why do you...guys...like me anymore. I-I've lost it! origins outtake.

I don't think the origins strong bad email is the right source for this quote of the week. I just watched the cartoon and I didn't hear the quote in the main toon or in the easter eggs.

Jess

Hi there Jess. Yeah, it doesn't seem right. Any ideas? -- Tom 17:45, 12 Mar 2005 (MST)
I'm putting in "unknown" for the time being. --Gafaddict 22:19, 12 Mar 2005 (MST)
I am quite sure that it IS an outtake from origins. Compare the following two lines:
Strong Bad (QOD): Oh. Why do you...guys...like me anymore. I-I've lost it!
STRONG BAD (Origins): Ugh! Why do you Van Peebles always wanna know the origins and histories of every freakin' little thing? Like, do you wanna know how Strong Sad got his belly button, too?
The tone is very identical in the parts that match (made italic here). This leads me to believe that it IS indeed an outtake from origins (don't forget, outtakes are recordings that go wrong and are scrapped - they are not part of the final version).
While I am the one who originally added outtake to the attribution (originally, it just said origins), I'll let you guys compare for yourselves. --83.88.139.125 15:26, 14 Mar 2005 (MST)
I'm still not convinced, though. The context for the two quotes are entirely different, though the tone is the same. --Gafaddict 19:26, 15 Mar 2005 (MST)
How on earth do you determine context on a single line? If you mean that the text is different, then that's obvious - it's an outtake, so it would HAVE to be wrong (one way or the other). Besides, I don't recall hearing another possible match in any other toon. --83.88.139.125 07:20, 16 Mar 2005 (MST)
In the outtake, Strong Bad is talking about how everyone likes him. In "origins", he is talking about why he hates that everybody wants to "know the origins of every single little thing". --Gafaddict 13:18, 16 Mar 2005 (MST)
Improvisation is not uncommon in outtakes. It could very easily be explained by Matt forgetting what he was supposed to say, then trying to make up something to go along. And again, I don't see any other potential sources (but feel free to point them out if you have any). --83.88.139.125 15:55, 16 Mar 2005 (MST)

Okay, I just noticed something interesting. Taking a look at the first line of the code for this file, I see "ID3 TT2 sbemail123_messup TEN iTunes v4.7.0.42 COM h engiTunNORM" Problem solved, and it look like we were right with "origins outake." -- Tom 13:01, 19 Mar 2005 (MST)

FWIW, that would be the ID3v2 tag. We should probably make a note to check for those things in the future. Most audio players (Winamp, for one) should show that info, so there's no need to get out Notepad or a hex editor or whatever you used :). (I can't believe it was really that simple.) --83.88.139.125 18:14, 19 Mar 2005 (MST)

Lost QoDs

I have a theory that might work. I know it's possible to record the sound from your comp (no clue how, but I know it can be done), so theoretically, couldn't someone record the QoDs without a mirror straight from the toons? It'd come out the same as the QoD, and that could be added to the mirror. -- nintendorulez 14:38, 28 Mar 2005 (MST)

Sorry, but it's not the same. -- Tom 23:18, 29 Mar 2005 (MST)
Darn. Well, it is better than nothing, right?
Well, there IS a way to get sound recorded from your computer, and it's called getting a Mac. (GarageBand can do that.) --Homsar999Talk 19:56, 2 Aug 2005 (CDT)
So can Windows and *Sound Recorder*, as long as your soundcard supports full duplex - just configure the Sound Mixer to use the proper input source. But that's not the reason we don't.
The sound on the site is of lower quality than the QoDs. Though we *could* sample those that are from the DVD, they often have background noise. --Pidgeot (t) (c) (e) 21:04, 13 Aug 2005 (UTC)
Good point Pidfeot. I just want to point out that the lost Quote of the Week files that we were discussing here have been located and are now available for download. -- Tom 22:36, 13 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Funniest word style ever

Apparently, someone made a useless page that listed the empty "Quote of the Week" phrase as different than the picture here. He went about it the wrong way, but he was actually right - at least when halfway on the on the virus Main Page, it really has changed, and to what he said it was. Is this worth note anywhere? --Jay (Talk) 15:56, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)

As I was TRYING to say before the database went down, it says:
"Oh Haldo! This is my
funniest word style
ever times that I've
said! Hope all is on
to it even more
lately! And I wish the
chicken & msg place
was open on

Lot of H*R refs in this one, huh? --Jay (Talk) 16:03, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Umm... Un-mirrored quotes not working

Is it me or are loads of the un-mirrord quotes not working for download? it brings me to the HSR 404'D page.

Yes, noname, you are right. It seems all the ZIP files from 3 May 2004 to 11 Nov 2004 have been removed from the site. Give Tom a week or two and we should have all these set up for download through the wiki server (mirror). I don't know if the macintosh 'sit' files will ever be mirrored. —THE PAPER PREEEOW 08:32, 28 May 2005 (UTC)

Repeated QoD?

They repeated the "human wedgie" quote today...why?

Yes, that doesn't really make sense...the only difference is it's AaAaahHmm instead of I'm. --ISlayedTheKerrek 18:10, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

You will find "youreagirl.mp3" in my updated quote pack. If you want to take the song directly from Flash, save and open this file. I'm glad I saved all those Flash files from last year—when TBC still embedded the quote file into Flash. :) —THE PAPER PREEEOW 08:23, 1 Jul 2005 (UTC)

The quote pack and the file didn't work. In the file, I could hear the quote, but I couldn't download it. Can someone fix this? -- RJMT

RJMT, you are probably opening the ZIP file (Windows XP allows you to do this) instead of saving the file to a folder on your hard drive. If you try right clicking on the link and then click "Save Target As..." you should be able to download the quote pack. If you would like more advice, you can tell me more about the situation on my talk page. —THE PAPER PREEEOW 14:49, 22 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Cool Tapes quote problem?

when i download the new cool tapes quote, it downloads fine and then i double-click it to open, and it copies it into itunes. but then there's nothing playing there. the time says 00:00. what the heck? can someone help? -dayve_57 4:11 PM august 19

It works fine for me. I'm not using iTunes, however. Perhaps try to download it again? -- Tom 20:15, 19 Aug 2005 (UTC)
No, Tom, you're wrong. The answer, if you're trying to get it in Safari, is to get it in Firefox. Usually, Safari works with it, but this time I tried Firefox and it worked. --Homsar999Talk 19:45, 26 Aug 2005 (CDT)
How am I wrong? -- Tom 18:50, 30 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Another Cool Tapes (maybe earlier) quote problem?

I saved the current Quote of the Week to my computer, knowing full well that this would make the sound clips unavailiable. However, instead of the "Oh Haldo! This is my funniest word style" message, i get a picture of Homestar and the message is "undefined". Did TBC change this, or is it just me? Smileyface11945 21:30, 21 Aug 2005 (UTC)

That's not a problem. It do read "Oh! Haldo" for about a second or so. Then it read's "undefined". --81.230.154.89 14:22, 24 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Re-recorded?

When I play the "Cool Tapes" on Quote of the Day, when Marzipan is supposed to say "Ready boys?" it doesn't sound a lot like her. Did they re-record these quotes? -Catsmeat (I forgot my password...)

No, they don't. QOTW mp3's sound much clearer than the sound in the Flash cartoon. —BazookaJoe 16:12, 3 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Wonder

Interestingly, the link for the Horrible Painting's quote "Come on in heeere" was homestarrunner.com/weeklies/rocoulm.mp3. "Rocoulm" struck me as an odd name for the mp3, so I thought I'd preserve that for posterity to speculate on. --Der Pepper

Image Font

Look at the old QOTW picture, then the new one. The fonts are different for the 'hear it, get it' text. Anybody know when exactly the change happened? It should at least be meantioned somewhere (If it already is, I'm sorry, but I didn't notice it). Thunderbird 16:26, 17 October 2005 (UTC)

Interesting. Must be reminicent of the old "Quote of the Day (or so)". — Lapper (talk) 13:40, 22 October 2005 (UTC)

Very mean and boring

Okay, I can sorta see the origins outtake ("Why do you... guys...") after it was explained to me, but I cannot see that the "very mean... things" quote came from boring (really) as was previously stated. It sounds to me like a generic-ized version of what Strong Bad says in just about every email. And, what's more, SB didn't say anything particularly close to it in b(r). --Jay (Talk) 05:08, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

And making it "undetermined" is no better!!! --Jay (Talk) 05:09, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
Can you prove that this one isn't an outtake?
{farts} "You guys, that was a pretty good one." {laughs}
How about this one? Unlikely as it is, can you prove it's not?
"This is the Strong Bad show, everybody come on down, there's gonna be lots a guests, and it's gonna be pretty fun, maybe at the end, I'll have a serious moment to talk to you guys, but right now I'm gonna throw a bunch of pies, at The Cheat!"
Yet I see no one insisting on making them "undetermined." --Jay (Talk) 05:16, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
PS. As slow as SB is talking in the new quote, he is still speaking much faster and with a LOT more (mock?) emotion than in b(r). It's just a generic SB-esque thing to say: something mean and funny. --Jay (Talk) 05:18, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
To me it sounds like his Reynold impression -- it seems like the same voice as "Ugh, I really need to go grocery shopping! I wish my girlfriend didn't leave me!" A Cheat Commandos outtake, perhaps?
I compared them side by side. The voices don't exactly match. - Joshua 02:19, 3 November 2005 (UTC)

QoW Chronology

Ok, since no one has seen this post over there, i'll just point to it over here! Hopefully there is more visibility. In fact, i'll copy my questions here: I have two related questions:

  1. When did the QoW start using character heads?
  2. Wasn't the QoW character heads format just homestar's head used regardless of who was saying stuff, if so, when did they start using *different* character heads for their QoW to show the correct head for a quote?
  3. --Stux 16:40, 27 November 2005 (UTC)
Have no idea. just felt like someone needed to pay attention to this question (aren't I nice?). — talk Bubsty edits 01:19, 28 November 2005 (UTC)
Awwwww! That is very nice of you thank you! --Stux 01:39, 28 November 2005 (UTC)
Well, judging by the quotes, I'm guessing they started using them sometime after the 11th of November, 2004. The next quote, on the 22nd, is from virus, which still had the older box without the character head in the toon (check the .swf of "fake-qotw"). But that's all I know. --DorianGray
EDIT CONFLICT X2 ALL THANKS TO DORIAN GRAYS REALLY MINOR EDITS THAT HE COULD HAVE WAITED TO DO UNTIL I FINISHED THIS POST (just to tell you, I was being sarcastic in that first reply). Woah, that soon? I thought it was earlier. — talk Bubsty edits 01:48, 28 November 2005 (UTC)
What about before, didn't there used to be just the quote and Homestar's head regardless of who made the quote? I vaguely remember that. If so, how long did they have that? --Stux 02:42, 28 November 2005 (UTC)
I've never heard of that... Sure you're not thinking of when they haven't update the new head, or the error screen? Hopefully someone who's been collecting them longer will know. --DorianGray
I do know that the virus SB quote (I duh du doh crapfully yours) was with the new head design, and it was not Homestar's head, and as far as I know the first quote to implement the new heads. I think Homestar is just default if the image is either not uploaded or not declared as part of the quote thing (or something). small_logo.pngUsername-talk 02:50, 28 November 2005 (UTC)
Okay that makes sense now. I'm asking because I wanted to add the chronology to the QoW character heads page since it has no such information. And I know that the character heads were decompiled and published only recently (last Aug or Sept). --Stux 05:14, 28 November 2005 (UTC)

Fall Float Parade outtake?

Recent edit to current QoTW mentioned the quote was from the Fall Float Parade outtake. Where's this outtake? I don't remember seeing or hearing of one. — Image:kskunk_fstandby.gif KieferSkunk (talk) — 20:25, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

Hey man, why do you ask? Is the quote from the outtake? --The 386 My talk 20:27, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
I have no idea - that's why I asked. One thing I'm curious about though is if this QoTW is exactly the same as the quote in the toon itself - TBC have been known to switch it up on us in the past. — Image:kskunk_fstandby.gif KieferSkunk (talk) — 20:28, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

This is why I had to revert it. None of us know. --The 386 My talk 20:31, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

Hey man, don't you know why I had to revert it? Still, it's reverted. --The 386 My talk 20:33, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

*shrug* Okay then, sorry. (BTW, I answered my question from above: I captured Coach Z's line from the Toon and listened to it closely, and he does say "zader matermorts" there.) — Image:kskunk_fstandby.gif KieferSkunk (talk) — 20:37, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

Meh, I don't want to listen to such a quote like that. Why does he mention that? --The 386 My talk 20:38, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

I listened to the toon and the QotW at the same time (overlapping), and the words and rhythm are the same. Because one sound clip is part of a toon and the other is isolated, the timbre isn't quite the same between the two, but that's the only difference I heard. — It's dot com 21:04, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

I used to think that sometimes the Quote of the Week was directly affected by debates over lyric spelling on the wiki. I still do, but now I can see that The [Smelly] Brethren Chaps are playing with us. There wasn't even a debate over Coach Z's line, but now they have to go and make up a word like "zader". --VolatileChemical 23:57, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

What makes you think they were playing with us on this one? I'm pretty sure Coach Z was saying the same thing in the original toon both before and after the QoTW - perhaps they just wanted to clarify it. — Image:kskunk_fstandby.gif KieferSkunk (talk) — 00:11, 10 December 2005 (UTC)

I just added the new quote from Jan. 26. There's no sound file yet so I left that blank.

CGNU

Does anybody know what band performed the CGNU Fight Song? --אוקאלייליי (Ookelaylay)

No, but judging on the voices, they might be british or austrailian.-- Benol, aka Coach B 20:11, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

Another repeated quote?

Not that I'm complaining, but did anyone else immediately recognize that we've had this "weekly" quote before? I seem to recall something similar around the time of the NYU Talk last year...and lo and behold, turns out the wiki has a truncated version cataloged for 25 March '05. Reminds me of the Homsar "Aaah" duplicate. —THE PAPER PREEEOW 03:34, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

Actually, if you listen to 'em both, the tone of voice is entirely different. --DorianGray
And this recent one has new lines. DBK! 03:45, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

Under Siege 2 x 2

Anyone else think it suspect that two different "outtake" quotes would use "Under Siege 2" in place of another movie? One uses it in place of "Jurassic Park 3" in Halloween Potion-ma-jig and the other in place of "Deep Impact" in The Best Decemberween Ever. --Jay (Talk) 19:37, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

It's almost like an inside joke... --DorianGray
Right - but if that's the case, then they're not "outtakes" so much as, I dunno, re-takes? Or maybe just a really weird coincidence. --Jay (Talk) 19:42, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
I think this page is misusing the term "outtake" throughout. Many of the quotes listed as "outtakes" are probably variations created after the fact. What proof do we have that any of them are actual outtakes? "(name of original source) variant" would be better. --Tim333
Really. Why would they record alternate versions solely for the purpose of a quote of the week? When you're recording audio for this sort of thing, you do many takes that get edited together after the fact. There are always leftovers. You're right, actually. Don't know what I was thinking. --Tim333

"Not Talkin’ ’Bout Butter"

The Cheat's remix is nice and all, but I'd really like the original!—S*R 20:00, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

Why? The remix was 1,000,000,000 times better. --ISlayedTheKerrek 05:04, 19 March 2006 (UTC)
I prefer the original. But because TBC didn't make it QOTW, I'ma have to run a cable from my Mac's speakers to my PC's mic port and record it in Audacity.—S*R 15:05, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
um, genius, with Audacity you can record without any cable.
No need to be rude. Also, please sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). — Bassbone (TALK Strong Mad Has a Posse CONT)
Sorry, 66.222.237.224, but you can't record sound without a cable. I just checked Audacity's input options.—S*R 20:19, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

Helping us out

Once again, although they didn't clear up the issue we were hoping they'd clear up, it almost seems TBC are intentionally trying to help us out on the Wiki, with the new lady fan quote (it's not actually an outtake; Homestar does say the line but the volume is turned way down and said under one of Strong Bad's lines so you can barely hear it.) --Jay (Talk) 02:21, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

From vs Source

I think Source is better to use than From. Thoughts? I just know I'm gonna get shot down.—S*R 03:39, 18 March 2006 (UTC)

The Sadsons

The Simpsons used the tai chi/chai tea gag in the 2000 episode "HOMR". Lisa claimed that she dealt with the stress of being an intellectual through practices that included drinking chai tea and doing tai chi. It's even conceivable that the Simpsons similarity was the reason they didn't use this take. Notable? --TheNicestGuy 18:18, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

Notable. -RadSkat3 19:47, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

TGS 10.5 vs death metal

Well, this is interesting. An anonny edited the QOTW to read "Teen Girl Squad Issue 10 1/2 (death metal Easter egg)" instead of "death metal Easter egg". It was reverted, even though on the TGS page itself, it's listed as TGS 10 1/2. So, why was the anonny edit wrong? Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 05:14, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

Strong Bad's "check me out" quote

You shouldn't say it's "similar" to first time here, It actually is from that toon. — 70.106.37.69 (Talk | contribs) 14:58, 31 March 2006 (UTC) (left unsigned)

Although the words are the same, the inflection is quite different – download it and compare... I'm guessing it was another take, but we don't know for sure, so we just say "similar". --phlip TC 15:12, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
  • Just played both of the quotes, and Strong Bad's saying is different from the flash file. So you're right. -70.106.37.69

No Load

The old quote (it's just "its") no longer loads. Put it on a mirror, somebody! Just a reminder no one needs. -RadSkat3 22:45, 6 April 2006 (UTC) AKA gramrabbit in WikiForum...WikiTikkiTavi rules!

So faint a sound, I thought you would enjoy it!

What faint laughter? I don't hear any faint laughter, even with my speakers turned up... --Jay (Talk) 05:41, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Oh, never mind. I hear it now with my headphones on. --Jay (Talk) 05:42, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
And before someone makes a "Doot doo" crack, I hear that with my new headphones just as clearly as with speakers. I still hear no third syllable. Just in case anyone was wondering. --Jay (Talk) 05:51, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
Also, the title of the clip (as seen in the properties) is "mike laff". I think that's all the proof we need. —Zelinda 12:09, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
Didn't know that one. --Jay (Talk) 15:34, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

I'm so sorry

I was trying to link to a MP3 version of a quote on the kitkorp mirror and I erased everything somehow. Please don't ban me.--Jnelson09 20:59, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
