heh first!!@! btw, a dollop isnt only limited to 1 dairy company, it is a blob of steamed milk ~~--

I just thought of those commercials when I heard that, but I see your point.--Shaggy | talk 14:32, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Phone numbers (Since when does 8 mean hang up?)

Homestar's phone uses dual-tone multi-frequency dialing. In particular, take note of the section on the keypad. That's the conversion table between a pair of frequencies and the corresponding number. To find out what frequencies Homestar is dialing, I recorded the beginning of the cartoon in Audacity (but I'm sure any similar program will do). I then selected the sound only when Homestar was dialing a number. In Audacity, to view the spectrum, select View/Plot spectrum. Some of the numbers are short, so the sampling rate must be dropped from the default of 512. Audacity has a handy feature where it automatically tells you where the peaks are when you mouse over them. The spectrum is usually a bit noisy, but there are always two prominent peaks which can be looked up on the table in the Wikipedia link provided. I obtained the following results: Pom Pom's number:

  • 769 Hz + 1330 Hz
  • 701 + 1476
  • 702 + 1476

Hanging up on Pom Pom:

  • 849 + 1327

Calling Strong Bad:

  • 850 + 1328
  • 765 + 1463
  • 766 + 1327
  • 689 + 1462
  • 688 + 1462

Hanging up on Strong Bad/Dialing Bubs:

  • 849 + 1325

Hanging up on Bubs/Dialing Coach Z:

  • 850 + 1325

Hanging up on Coach Z:

  • 850 + 1328

Dialing the King of Town:

  • 764 + 1328
  • 687 + 1462

Hanging up on the King of Town:

  • 850 + 1327

These correspond to numbers 5-3-3, 8, 8-6-5-3-3, 8, 8, 8, 5-3-8 (as I report in the Fun Facts section)-- feel free to compare them yourself. The only significant quirk I found is that Homestar's phone emits a brief dual-tone of approximately 1200 Hz and 3600 Hz before each number. I don't know what this means, but it could either be unique to his phone or a signal to reset the tone detection (or something like that). I don't know if anyone wants to discuss anything except possibly where the fun-fact should go, but I thought this should serve as a record of my work.--Bobo the King 10:16, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I tried number ciphers etc. and can't seem to find anything, if that's what you meant. -- Lazylaces Talk 14:27, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Nebulon's first appearence?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this the first canonical appearance of Nebulon (in person) in the real Homestar Runner universe (if one assumes that the main pages aren't canon)? --Smallhacker 12:24, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Nope. JCM 14:04, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Pepper

Although the reference to the bugs bunny cartoon is correct, you can move up one level of reference by pointing out that Pepper is a baseball warm-up exercise. See wikipedia Nsayer 12:45, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Uncategorized?

This toon clearly seems to be a short, but it isn't in the Shorts section on the TV Time Toons Menu. I can't remember what we do in this case; should this be classified as "Uncategorized" for now? Trey56 15:04, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

I would put it in an "uncategorized" category per this revision of Limozeen Live! Also, the existence of a title card makes this possible "big toon" territory. BBG 15:57, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
While I won't debate whether this is "uncategorized" or not (I suspect that TBC threw it into New Stuff last night and just haven't added it to Shorts yet; probably see it added in a day or two.), just because this has a title card doesn't mean it's a Big Toon. Quality Time (among others) are classified as shorts, but also have a title card, and the length (under 3 minutes) is consistent with most contemporary shorts. wbwolf (t | ed) 16:02, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
Just throwing in a reminder that the Main Page button specifically says "new short". OptimisticFool 17:01, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
Oh, there you go. Good call. Trey56 17:14, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Living together?

Should we count this episode as evidence that Homestar and Marzipan are living together? You can clearly recognize Marzipan's living room from her poster and the couch in the scene before the meteor falls down on Homestar.

We should count it as Homestar hanging out at Marzipan's house uninvited until she tells him to go hang out with one of his other friends.PolarBoy 19:20, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
I think we should say that Homestar lives with Marzy, cause on *at least* two occasions, (The Best Decemberween Ever and Homestar Presents: Presents) he has come out of Marzy's house. (or if I'm wrong, an extremely similar house.) -70.249.40.203 23:02, 9 June 2008 (UTC) (Everybody! who set his alarm for 10 PM-- i mean, forgot to sign in again XD)
Does anyone else find it a little confusing that we see, assuming the first scene takes place at one setting, Marzipan's living room in Homestar's house? DevonM(talk·cont-ribs) 03:19, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Partial DVD commentary from Date Nite, from the scene just after the title card with Homestar and Strong Bad on this couch.

MATT: I like that these guys are just hanging out having some Cold Ones together. Some 'old Ones together, rather.
MIKE: In... pr— presumably Marzipan's house.
{both laugh}
MATT: Yeah, I think. We still haven't decided whose— I think Homestar and Marzipan live in different houses, but... they seem to hang out in the same one.
MIKE: {over Mike's previous comment} That seems like— That's pretty much Marzipan's.
MATT: Yeah, yeah. Definitely.
MIKE: Like, the kitchen is definitely up in the air as to whose is...
MATT: Yeah. And Homestar's bedroom is clearly in his own house.

So, who knows. In this toon, maybe it's Marzipan's place the whole time and she just had her blue house painted yellow. Oh, and she tore out and replaced her porch. Or Homestar and Marzipan have separate houses but each has an identical living room and couch ... and Thank You sign. Grumble, grumble. OptimisticFool 06:22, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Similarly, from the Strong Bad Is In Jail Cartoon commentary:
MATT: It's Trivia Time! They've taken Trivia Time from off of Marzipan and/or Homestar's kitchen shelf.
MIKE: I don't think we've really established whose kitchen that is.
MATT: I think people assume it's Marzipan's.
MIKE: Yeah, I think it's Marzipan's.
MATT: Dude, I don't want to hint at any cohabitation here, okay?
MIKE: {awkward pause} Me neither.
Definitely not cohabitation. --DorianGray 06:38, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
Homestar lives where he hangs his propeller-topped hat. According to Flashback, he thinks he lives in Strong Bad's house (although Strong Bad gives evidence to the contrary). Stev0 21:34, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
I'm just pointing out, that the living room Homestar sits on in the beginning and when its "Migraine Time" is normally in Marzipan's house, as Homestar's living room is completely different in appearance. And the outside view of the house is Homestar's, telling by the way the stair railing looks. Just a mistake on TBC's part? DevonM(talk·cont-ribs) 21:48, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
Yep, looks like a mistake. 76.67.63.244 18:39, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
What if Homestar is sorta like The Cheat, and lives in one place (Homestar's House and The King of Town's Grill, respectively) but spends most of his time at someone else's (Marzipan's House and The House of The Brothers Strong, respectively). SuperfieldCreditUnion
That's all well and good, but it's the apparent combination of Homestar's porch and Marzipan's interior that's confusing. I would guess that TBC just goofed up. They do that sometimes. =] OptimisticFool 06:03, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
I feel the need to point out that Marzipan's house looks very similar to Homestar's from the outside. --DorianGray 06:22, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

Prison

Is it worth it making an running-gag article page about Prison (as opposed to Jail)? Stev0 21:30, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

I think that would be a worthy page, since it seems like a frequently mention place. Some cross referencing with Jail would be necessary, though. wbwolf (t | ed) 23:49, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Phrasing

lol, isn't anyone going to remark about why "messing around" wasn't a good idea?

PSP? How is that a reference?

Why would Pom Pom's important firmware upgrade be a specific reference to the PlayStation Portable? I own plenty of other electronics (MP3 player, digital camera, motherboard BIOS) with "upgradeable" firmware, and I think Homestar only remarked that it "sounds important" because he doesn't know what it means. Seems like blue referring to the sky to me. --Lukeonia1 07:29, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Agreed. There's no reason to believe that's what he was referring to. I removed it. -YKHi. I'm Ayjo! 07:45, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
It was most likely an important firmware upgrade for his Pom Pilot. – The Chort 14:05, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Euuuuuungh.

Is is just me, or is Coach Z getting creepier every toon? Why would "da coach" want to be in juvinile prison? Warning: Big emoticon coming up...

-Alex H.

In my opinion Coach Z has, and always will be, my main man really freakin' creepy. But, maybe CZ thought that juvenile prison was like the regular type, because remember that in regular prison you get "Three square meals a day". DevonM(talk·cont-ribs) 21:23, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Promblem

Isn't Coach Z a little old to be in juvenile prison? If he's old enough to be a sports-coach... Noxigar 21:47, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

That's the joke... — Defender1031*Talk 22:28, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
He doesn't want to hang out with Homestar... no one does....poor Homestar...
yeah, because he totally never spent time with Homestar before. Like in training or something. He also totally did not call Marzipan to make her cheer Homestar up when she didn't meet him at the movies. And the facts that he joined his parties and wanted to be invited to his house for Decemberween were all fake. What I mean to say is: Yes, Coach Z likes to spend time with Homestar. Especially since he doesn't have a lot of friends. Please forgive me for being ironic on the first part, it was just too tempting. ;) Oh, and same goes for other characters. Check out Character Relationships! --Cass from Germany 22:55, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

No one wants to hang out with Homestar...

Bubs said he was in federal prison, but he was in his concession stand, saying he got time off. Coach Z was in juvenile prison, and you can tell he was lying. Strong Bad never wants to hang out with Homestar, either that, or they're all telling the truth or something...

Oddly enough, in Strong Badia the Free, Coach Z says "I just can't go barck to the joint, man! I ain't goin' barck!" So it is possible that Coach Z was in prison, juvenile or no. That Game Dude 386 22:17, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
