I was just playing Peasant's quest when I found the weirdest glitch ever.  I was going to try out the "make friends with Kerrek" thing.  I had it pre typed and clicked enter when I came into the kerrek zone.  He was right next to me when I entered and this crazy screen came up with the map and a bunch of flashinglittle Rather Dashing heads.  IThe background looked like the river, and it was raining.  I don't have a flash decompiler, so I can't go in and see what's the matter, so if anyone wants to figure out what happened and add it to the glitch section, that would be great, because I'm not sure how to word it.  - 17:38, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

Sinistar Reference
Looking back at this game, I noticed something. It's about Trogdors voice when you talk to him; it sorta sounds like Sinistar's voice. He's a Midway game bad guy in the arcade game "Sinistar", who says phrases like "I am Sinistar." "Beware, I live." "Run, Run, Run!" "I hunger." Here's a site where you can listen to it and compare. Doesn't his voice and Trogdors sound awfully similar?

references to two video games?
 +

 +
Hi everyone.  I think that there are two video games that should be mentioned on the Peasant's Quest page, but I don't really want to add these as references before getting a second opinion:
 +

 +
First, Hugo's House of Horrors.  PG is very similar to HHH in style, i.e. the text/graphical adventure.  In fact, that was the first game I thought of when I played this game, rather than the Sierra games, even though I know Sierra was there first.  Also, the monster maskus is similar to a scene in Hugo when you have to wear a monster mask to make monstrous creatures believe you are one of them.  I know it's not scaring a horse, but there is a distinct parallel in the two monster masks.
 +

 +
Second, Eric the Unready.  The innkeeper's frantically waving his arms around was an action performed by a dwarf called Fran, in Fran's Rock Emporium.  However, since Eric the Unready is mostly a parody of other video games, I think that maybe another game did this first.  Does anyone know?  Has anyone ever played this game?  (if not, go download it NOW!!!) At the bale of hay, if you type "Get hay", it makes a reference to Thy Dungeonman and Thy Dungeonman II by saying, "Who do you think you are, some kind of Thy Dungeonman?"
 +

 +
This may also be a reference to Viewtiful Joe. The boss of the second level of that game would ask of Joe, "What, you think you're some kinda Mega Man or something?" It's another example of one game referencing another related game, as both Viewtiful Joe and Mega Man are Capcom games. 67.58.163.176 17:48, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
 +
:Nope. It directly relates to Thy Dungeonman because you collected hay in Thy Dungeonman II. Furthermore, Peasant's Quest debuted on August 2, 2004, while Viewtiful Joe hit North American shores on August 24th of the same year. --DorianGray 18:20, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Irridisregardless
 +

 +
The article says this:
 +
:Before obtaining the map, typing the word MAP results in the message: "We are neither confirming nor denying the presence of a map in this game, but irridisregardless, you don't have one."  Irridisregardless is a portmanteau.
 +

 +
And I expanded the last sentence to read:
 +

 +
:Irridisregardless is a portmanteau which plays on the controversy surrounding the word "irregardless", which is a relatively common word that is usually considered incorrect English (one should just say "regardless").
 +

 +
This change was later reverted the same day with a summary of "umm... no." But I strongly feel that this is the origin of this particular portmanteau. "Irregardless" is a very popular example of a word condemned by grammarians, and I consider this explanation more likely than that they made up this portmanteau for no reason at all. (Yes, TBC have made up portmanteaus arbitrarily, but I think their chances of stumbling upon this particular portmanteau without thinking about it is pretty small.) So I'm putting it back in unless somebody can make a compelling argument for leaving it off. - furrykef (Talk at me) 06:26, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

In the save/load feature, it says "You must have browser cookies enabled to get saved." It's a common Christian phrase in which you turn your life over to God. As for Jay's find, it's weird that it only works at the burninated trees. What's the significance of a reference to the last game if it only works in one area? The message says "Wrong game, Mispeller Jones. Try the little button to the left of the 'W'." I assumed it meant I spelt the word plaque wrong,as q is to the left of w, and when I typed "get plaque" I was informed "You have enough of that on your browning, rotten peasant teeth already."- which seems like a lot of script for a hidden command line. Do you guys think there was originally a plaque (like sign)on the tree? And it didn't get deleted somehow? 16:36, 27 March 2013 (UTC)

Ding! Peasant's Quest is a featured article, which means it showcases an important part of the Homestar Runner body of work and/or highlights the fine work of this wiki. We also might just think it's cool. If you see a way this page can be updated or improved without compromising previous work, feel free to contribute.

[edit] Collaborative Community Project

The goal is to remove the cleanup tag by the end of the week. Remove or STUFF bad Fun Facts (be sure to read the rules first). Remove any Fun Facts that belong on related PQ pages. Try to arrange the facts in the order which they appear in the game. Be sure to wikify (add links, internal and interwiki) wherever appropriate. Don't forget to wash where the sun don't shine. —BazookaJoe 20:09, 18 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Should sub-pages be made for all of the fun facts? I'm just trying to think of a way to make it a little more visually pleasing.--minibaseball.png Bkmlb(talk to me·stuff I did) 03:20, 20 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Let me just start by saying that YOU DO NOT NEED TO MAKE A POST IN THE "Other games reference" IF IT'S SOMETHING THAT'S OBVIOUS, SUCH AS, "if you type in 'look' and you can't look at something you get an error message so it must be a reference to [insert old school adventure game here]."Honestly, there isn't just ONE ADVENTURE GAME OUT THERE! This game is a parody of all classic adventure games- not just "Monkey Island", "Zork", "Mario RPG", "Space Quest", etc. So please, everyone, don't try to make a reference if it's obvious. --Skizzot 22:11, 20 Sep 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Walkthrough

Hm. The walkthrough really ought to get the user 150 points instead of 149. Is this my fault? I created the image with the little numbers. Do I need to move one (or more) of the dots so the walkthrough can be fixed? — wikisig.gif Joey (talk·edits) 10:07, 21 Sep 2004 (MST)

Okay, after surveying the damage, it looks as though step 7 of the first quest needs to be moved so that it is positioned above step 4. I'm working on the image and will update the page when the new image is in place. — wikisig.gif Joey (talk·edits) 10:23, 21 Sep 2004 (MS

[edit] Save after "Beating" Trogdor

I beat it and saw the credits, what happens after that? All I see is a statue of Rather Dashing wearing a Scalding Lake T-shirt and some text that says "THE END".

That's it. --Kilroy 15:00, 5 Oct 2004 (MST)

Did anyone else have the same problem with loading the game? All I got when I loaded it was a piece of broken film with the Quicktime logo on it. -Everybody!

  • Delete Quicktime, it's interferring with Flash. Quicktime is evil. It hijacked my computer and no matter how many times I told it not to associate with my mp3s or midis or anything it still would and even after I uninstalled it it reinstalled itself. Ugh. Just kill Apple. Anyway, get rid of Quicktime and maybe reinstall/update Flash. -Skunk
    • And the get QuickTime Alternative

[edit] Salad Fingers Reference?

"The name 'Ron Cumberdale' is most likely a reference to the character Hubert Cumberdale in the Salad Fingers flash movie." Cumberdale is a real last name though, which presents a BIG problem in that theory. Besides, wasn't Peasant's Quest before Salad Fingers? Anyway, I think this should be removed. -Skunk

I like the idea that TBC are aware of and would reference Salad Fingers too much to back you up- Grover Junior
I watch Salad Fingers, but Cumberdale is too common a last name. If it was the same first name, it would be. -Lappy 486

[edit] 150 point ending?

Hey, just wondering if you actually get anything for getting all 150 points. Is it worth my while?

A feeling of accomplishment? I got 150, and although I flet good about it, I got squat.

Find my glitch on the arrow game. I got 400 out of 150 lol.
         -Quinn

Doesn't Trogdor actually speak what is written in quotations if you get all 150 points, or did I just have my speakers off every single time I played? I suppose I could have been delusional and forgetful... -SonoftheRight

I'm fairly sure that Trogdor is supposed to speak the text regardless of your score. --videlectrix.pngENUSY discussionitem_icon.gif user.gifmail_icon.gif 19:59, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
Not true. If you do not type "talk trogdor" the game ends without Trogdor's speech.Geshmalder 21:32, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] BUY MY STUFF!

What is it about the Peasant's Quest page that attracts so much spam? I can kinda see the Strong Bad Email page - it's linked to from the sidebar, and it's obviously going to be a high-traffic page. But why PQ? --Jay 15:23, 11 Apr 2005 (MDT)

Do a "What links here" on both pages. Although H*R.com Updates is in the sidebar, there are a lot more pages linking to Peasant's Quest. --Venusy, 16:51, 12 Apr 2005 (BST)
That still doesn't seem to be the answer to me. I doubt these spammers go through the Wiki to find a good page - they probably try to spam the main page and, failing that, go to the first page they can (which is why Strong Bad Email, the second link on the sidebar, likely gets spammed so much.) Is there an outside page that links to Peasant's Quest? --Jay 10:26, 12 Apr 2005 (MDT)
Peoples probably search for a walkthrough, found this, and thanked us by spamming it up.---RatherAnnoying 20:49, 21 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Videlectrix Ajax

The Videlectrix runner in the intro dies by falling on his sword. A possible reference to the Greek hero Ajax who died a similar death.

  • Decline It's too general. Similarity =/= reference. --Jay (Talk) 17:18, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)
  • And action figure is Strong Bad email #42 that could be a referance to the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Decline! The_Pardack

[edit] Two names? (DECLINED)

When you type in "talk kerrek", part of the message that comes up is "'Me llamo Julio'", which means "My name is Julio" in Spanish. As this is said by Rather Dashing, his real name is Julio.

  • Fhqwdlcinds So??? --Jay 01:24, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)
    • So, rather dashing's real name name is Julio. Good catch! Just revise it so that its a little more obvious. Try:
When you type in "talk kerrek", part of the message that comes up is "'Me llamo Julio'", which means "My name is Julio" in
Spanish. As this is said by Rather Dashing, his real name is Julio.

  • REWRITE'D! I was the one who wrote the thing anyway, so I rewrote it with -erson-san's suggestion. --Kiwi 19:09, 14 Apr 2005 (EST)
  • Decline the new one too It's still useless, and perhaps now moreso - are we next going to say that his name is Misspeller Jones? (Type "get plague" near the lantern.) It's a joke. Just go with it. --Jay 01:10, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC)
    • Comment. But, it might NOT be. Geez, why does everyone always decline everything around here? --Kiwi 10:45, 16 Apr 2005
      • Oh, wait, what was that word? "Might"? As in, you're not certain? --Jay 18:08, 16 Apr 2005 (UTC)
        • But the fact that Rather Dashing is saying "Me llamo Julio" as a conversation starter to the Kerrek would be a different case. Do you ever say "Hello my name is..." and mention an incorrect name? And about the "Misspeller Jones", is it not common for people to make up nicknames for people about their different characteristics? Like you call a clumbsy person "Butterfingers" even though his real name is Bob, or a bad typist "Misspeller Jones" even though his real name is Julio? ---erson 23:34, 16 Apr 2005 (UTC)
          • It sounds to me like the sort of thing you'd find in the first five pages of a beginners' Spanish textbook, and without otherwise knowing what to say to the Kerrek, he just rambled relative nonsense. We know his real name, and it's not Julio. --Jay 02:06, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)
            • We dont know that his real name is Rather Dashing, the character doesn't actually say it himself. Just the narrator. And whos more likely to know his own name, the narrator or Rather Dashing? ---erson 02:12, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)
              • So, at the end of the game, the NARRATOR tells Trogdor (who repeats it - in voice acting!) that his name is Rather Dashing? --Jay 02:17, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)
                • Sorry, I never played to the end of the game. But honeslty, what are the odds that if he was talking nonsence he would utter a phrase that just happens to be a very popular opening statement when meeting new people? And, there is no where in the game where it tells you Rather Dashing can't speak Spanish. Perhaps he though Kerrek spoke spanish.
                  • Yes, I just double-checked the ending. The narration says "You scream that your name is Rather Dashing", followed by a long speech with a computer voice reading along (a direct quote by Trogdor), ending in "It will be a pleasure to burninate you, Rather Dashing." One random piece of text may give small credence to your theory that RD's real name is Julio, but the entire rest of the game contradicts it. --Jay 02:24, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)
  • Perhaps a rewrite than to indiciate that Rather Dashing's name may be Julio according to that text?---erson 02:31, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)
    • I don't think Fun Facts is a place for theories that "may be" true based on a possible interpretation of one statement. Decline. Beatfox 06:30, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)
  • Yet Another Comment. We all know that "rather dashing" is a term meaning you're good-looking. Maybe he just calls himself that because he thinks he's, well, good-looking. Kiwi 14:41, 17 Apr 2005 (EST)
  • How do we know he just didn't read that off of a Spanish textbook? It's just as much speculation to say that Rather Dashing CAN speak Spanish as it is to say he can't. Can't you just accept that this is random TBC humor? Seriously, this is a bigger stretch than Dhalsim. Me llamo decline Dasrik 06:25, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC)
  • Comment Numero Tres. Look, we're never going to get anywhere like this, and I'm sick of the arguments. Someone lock this thing, PLEASE. --Kiwi 16:53, 19 Apr 2005
  • Comment. Throughout all of the Peasant's Quest Movie Trailer, Rather Dashing is referred to as ... Rather Dashing. -- tomstiff 02:25, 20 Apr 2005 (UTC)
  • Comment I never remember Rather Dashing saying his name is Julio other than right there. --user: Lappy 486 9:10 Apr 26
  • Comment Actually, Julio's translation in July! So Rather Dashing actually sas "My name is July which is weird because July is usually a girl's name. Cheatachu72 18:21, 23 May 2005 (UTC)
    • You're an idiot, "Julio" is just the masculine form of "Julia" and corresponds to "Julius." Just because Americans/English-speakers aren't commonly called "Julius" doesn't mean Spanish people can't be called "Julio."

Actually, "stragedy" is on the list of common misspellings. In this context, "stragedy" is the correct word to use when describing that Easter Egg. --videlectrix.pngENUSY discussionitem_icon.gif user.gifmail_icon.gif, 16:08, 13 September 2005 (BST)

Well, actually, those are two different easter eggs --sosososos, 16:46, 15 September 2005 (BST)

I don't know about Peasant's Quest, but TBC use the term "Stragedy Guide" (sic) as a joke in the FAQ. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 22:07, 15 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Uh...guys...There is no guide for PQ on GameFAQs. --Color Printer 23:20, 1 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Sure there is. More than one, actually. -- Tom 23:24, 1 Oct 2005 (UTC)

[edit] A reference maybe

it might already be there but im not sure..."gamer ober" is proabably a refernce to the email "vacation" where a postcard said "ober there"

Not only does that never happen, your spelling is atrocious. Please double-check your facts and grammar before posting anything.
Old English font easily makes a "V" look like a "b". — User:ACupOfCoffee@ 05:59, 19 Sep 2005 (UTC)

When leaving the woman's cottage, your inner monologue says, "This place is dead anyway"-- a likely reference from the film [1]Swingers in which Alex Désert's character Charles comments on moving on to the next hot spot.-- Zoogicub, Feb. 2006

[edit] Seek Bar

If you move the seek bar to a little bit after the intro ends, it takes you to the map, with rather dashing everywhere, behind it is the rain and a couple of sprites, and then full invintory is shown. Then I moved the seek bar more and it took me to the game over screen and then the archery game that you can only play for a few seconds until the rock climbing takes place. When you move it back, the target is pitch black. After the rock climb, it takes you to the credits. Whew. Man, thats weird. But I guess that kinda stuff happens with complex games like Peasents Quest and Stinkoman 20X6. Seek Bar

[edit] Template

This collection of pages is in desperate need of a template. Rogue Leader / (my talk) 19:38, 29 Sep 2005 (UTC)

I was thinking that myself, except for how many separate PQ characters there are. Should they remain separate and included on a big template, or should someone try to cram all that info onto one big Peasant's Quest Characters page? Either way, a template still seems necessary for this. --DorianGray
Probably the best thing to do with the characters is to provide a link to the Peasant's Quest Character category. Rogue Leader / (my talk) 20:02, 29 Sep 2005 (UTC)
I would never have thought of that... But now it seems obvious. Okay, that works. Who else votes for a template? You must admit, it's surely in need of one, people... --DorianGray

[edit] The Cheat

Type in anything that icludes cheat in it and it will say "Meh".

I'd like to direct you to Peasant's Quest Responses. --DorianGray

[edit] Kerrek Buckle Glitch

I find that when i take the kerrek's belt buckle, the game basically freezes with RD walking in place on the screen with the naked dude behind the tree. any ideaS?

[edit] Worst. Ending. Ever.

You go through all that just to get burninated. That's pretty much the only thing that disappointed me about the game. I also didn't get full points for leaving a drawer open. Ugh. Retromaniac 20:39, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

I think it's hilarious. You make it all that way, and then you die. Just like real life! </cheerfully pessimistic outlook> --DorianGray

[edit] A very strange glitch

I was just playing Peasant's quest when I found the weirdest glitch ever. I was going to try out the "make friends with Kerrek" thing. I had it pre typed and clicked enter when I came into the kerrek zone. He was right next to me when I entered and this crazy screen came up with the map and a bunch of flashing little Rather Dashing heads. The background looked like the river, and it was raining. I don't have a flash decompiler, so I can't go in and see what's the matter, so if anyone wants to figure out what happened and add it to the glitch section, that would be great, because I'm not sure how to word it. - link_icon.gifThe Joe(Talk) 17:38, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

This is really weird. I scrolled over the "print button" and all the heads dissapeared except for one, which was in my location. - link_icon.gifThe Joe(Talk) 17:43, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Widget Baleeted

The Peasant's Quest widget is no longer available for download from Apple.com. Does anyone know where you can get it for reals?

[edit] Sinistar Reference

Looking back at this game, I noticed something. It's about Trogdors voice when you talk to him; it sorta sounds like Sinistar's voice. He's a Midway game bad guy in the arcade game "Sinistar", who says phrases like "I am Sinistar." "Beware, I live." "Run, Run, Run!" "I hunger." Here's a site where you can listen to it and compare. Doesn't his voice and Trogdors sound awfully similar? Spyrox6

...Anyone got a link to Trogdor's voice? Bluebry 18:36, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
I know this conversation is old, but they're not the same. Trogdor's voice uses The Software Automatic Mouth, and that thing uses a different synthesizer. MichaelXX2 mail_icon.gif link_icon.gif 05:01, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] references to two video games?

Hi everyone. I think that there are two video games that should be mentioned on the Peasant's Quest page, but I don't really want to add these as references before getting a second opinion:

First, Hugo's House of Horrors. PG is very similar to HHH in style, i.e. the text/graphical adventure. In fact, that was the first game I thought of when I played this game, rather than the Sierra games, even though I know Sierra was there first. Also, the monster maskus is similar to a scene in Hugo when you have to wear a monster mask to make monstrous creatures believe you are one of them. I know it's not scaring a horse, but there is a distinct parallel in the two monster masks.

(if not, go download it NOW!!!) EYanyo 21:52, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

At the bale of hay, if you type "Get hay", it makes a reference to Thy Dungeonman and Thy Dungeonman II by saying, "Who do you think you are, some kind of Thy Dungeonman?"

Nope.

[edit] Irridisregardless

The article says this:

Before obtaining the map, typing the word MAP results in the message: "We are neither confirming nor denying the presence of a map in this game, but irridisregardless, you don't have one." Irridisregardless is a portmanteau.

And I expanded the last sentence to read:

Irridisregardless is a portmanteau which plays on the controversy surrounding the word "irregardless", which is a relatively common word that is usually considered incorrect English (one should just say "regardless").

Oh, and Wikipedia has an article about it, too. Take particular note of the "in popular culture" section. - furrykef (Talk at me) 06:34, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Widget Quest(ion)

A question regarding the Widget: was it official, or was it something a fan had made? Because if it was the latter, I'm not sure if it should be mentioned on this page at all (I mean, phlip's port of Population: Tire to the DS isn't mentioned on that page, and that made the Weekly Fanstuff). --videlectrix.pngENUSY discussionitem_icon.gif user.gifmail_icon.gif 20:37, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Reference to God?

In the save/load feature, it says "You must have browser cookies enabled to get saved." It's a common Christian phrase in which you turn your life over to God. Such as, "You have to believe in Him to be saved," or something like that. Do you think it's a reference? MichaelXX2 mail_icon.gif link_icon.gif 04:58, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

No, it's just saying you need them. Which I'm failry sure you do. Saved is well...do I really need to say this? SI.com!

[edit] Goofs

The archer stops arching but continues to fire arrows.

That is not what arching means, I wouldn't say that this was a goof.

[edit] Inventory hole

Every time I beat this game, and get 150 points, the inventory fills up except for one item that remains ??? (specifically, the second-to-last one in the right column.) does anyone know if this is intentional, or if there's something out there that i haven't found yet which won't get me any points for finding? The Knights Who Say Ni 20:52, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Guns' N Roses Reference

If you type in "look hay" at the hay pile, It says "It reminds you of a warm safe place where as a child you'de hide." This, as you know, is a line from "Sweet child of mine" by guns and roses, course in first person context....not second person.....

That reference has been on the page for years. The Knights Who Say Ni 22:30, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

[edit] notes

what are the music notes for the theme? and shouldn't you add that to the trivia?

Not unless they're somehow relevant to the rest of the game or the site. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 00:45, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Misspeller Jones

--Image:Homsariconformysig.gifBroncoTroll 16:36, 27 March 2013 (UTC)

Try typing "take lantern". The Knights Who Say Ni 17:39, 27 March 2013 (UTC)
Ah, yes. Forgot about that one. 'You die', heh. --Image:Homsariconformysig.gifBroncoTroll 23:15, 27 March 2013 (UTC)

[edit] Ouch! My browser! [games not saving :(]

So I've tried this both from (unbranded) Firefox 40.0.3 developer edition and normal (branded, non-developer) Firefox 39 and I can play, save games and even load them, but if I leave the page and come back to it or reload, they as gone as my parents' love for each other.

I looked at the site cookies and when I save they don't change at all. I'm wondering if this is one of those things that Firefox does now because it thinks that flash is as crappy as it really is so it stopped writing cookies when a flash object requests it. I looked through the preferences of Firefox and I can't find anything that says to do this or not. Can somebody else try this out please and thanks? 76.215.41.237 19:52, 20 November 2015 (UTC) (hey everybody! there's my IP address!)

[edit] Struck

I notice that the instructions on the page are similar but not identical to the "tips for morons beginners" seen in the game. It seems like it's been that way for a while, too. What's up with that? DEI DAT VMdatvm center\super contra 17:29, 24 April 2016 (UTC)

[edit] Boring Sanders?

Not totally certain how well-known Bernie Sanders was in 2004—though certainly less than now—but could the "Boring Sanders" remark in the "quit" message be a reference to his name? DEI DAT VMdatvm center\super contra 17:29, 24 April 2016 (UTC)

[edit] Autosave.

Just to make sure I'm not mis-remembering, did the game always have autosave? If it did, it's not mentioned on the page anywhere. Guybrush20X6 22:43, 14 January 2021 (UTC)
