Transcript

I claim the transcripting! Jedibob5 23:51, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Go for it! Homestar-Winner (talk) 23:52, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, it's done. Wasn't so hard, mainly because it's really, really short, but there's my first transcript. Jedibob5 00:14, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

Play it Again, Back Button

Is this the first toon to feature a "Play Again" Button but no back button? 20X6 GEM 00:50, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

Doubt it. Can't think of anything else off the top of my head, though.
Where would you go back to? The only way to reach this page is by typing the URL in directly. — It's dot com 01:00, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
I don't think it's notable one way or the other. Do we really need to make comments on the presence of "Back" and "Play Again" buttons? They are called Fun Facts, after all. ~That Guy Over There (User talk:That Guy Over There) 00:32, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
It's a first, so I added it. There, no more debate.That game dude386 00:34, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
Hey! Put it back!!!That game dude386 00:37, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
I think it's worth noting, as it doesn't look like a typical "again" button like they usually do. It's set as a background item for most of the cartoon, and cannot be clicked. It blends in perfectly with the page, and most wouldn't notice it otherwise. --DorianGray 00:38, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
Good point on it being inconspicuous. I'll change the fact into an Easter Egg. Gimme a sec...That game dude386 00:42, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
As a H*R first, I say that the Play Again/Back button relationship is worth noting. Please revoke the deletion. That game dude386 00:50, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
The buttons really have nothing to do with the cartoon. I have three "nay" votes - me, anonny, and It's Dot Com (if you scroll up, there's even a dispute as to whether it's a first at all). DorianGray, as far as I can tell, has only argued that the unique appearance should be noted, not the absence of a back button, and I'll agree with that. I see no consensus, however, that says it's notable that there's a "Play Again" button and no "Back" button. I say it stays off. ~That Guy Over There (User talk:That Guy Over There) 01:03, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
I think we should acknowledge the fact that the "Try Again" button serves as a replay button, but not as an Easter egg. I don't even think it needs to be a Fun Fact. I think it fits best in the transcript. How does it look there? Homestar-Winner (talk) 01:21, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Now that's the way to do it. ~That Guy Over There (User talk:That Guy Over There) 01:27, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Name that Inconsistency

How can we best mention "Name that Inconsistency" to link with Inconsistencies within the Homestar Runner universe, if at all? --DorianGray 04:53, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

I added it on there. I put the best i could think of. If anyone changes it I'm fine with it.

Flash File

veiwing the html file gives me the 404'd page, but the flash file works Dr. Savage 23:28, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

Both work fine for me. OptimisticFool 23:38, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
ok, both work now. (too lazy to log in) 75.58.18.125 18:03, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

Camping out

Camping out while waiting in line is a real practice of fan clubs, usually done while waiting for a major event (e.g. a major movie release, major sporting event, or for certain products, such as video games).

I removed this because I don't think it really needs to be explained. Between all the examples listed, surely people are familiar with this practice. — It's dot com 16:44, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

I disagree. It was my understanding that we have long since abandoned the idea of not explaining references just because they're TOO well-known. I'm not even entirely convinced that it's famous enough to reasonably expect the majority of people to get it. — Defender1031*Talk 17:54, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, there are still people out there who aren't familiar with camping out like that anyway. --TheYellowDart(t/c) 20:26, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
That's why I put it up there! That Game Dude 386 21:34, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
And at any rate, it is, by definition, a Real-World reference. That Game Dude 386 21:36, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
No, by definition, it's an explanation, not a reference to anything specific. We're explaining the joke. Our practice is specifically not to do that unless we truly believe a large segment of readers won't get it. Between sporting events, movies (think Star Wars, Harry Potter), and game systems (PS3, Wii), I'm fairly certain just about everyone who watches the toon already knows why they're doing what they're doing. — It's dot com 21:48, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
It is a reference to the common practice and stereotype of anything with a large and obsessed enough fan-base. That seems specific enough to me to be a reference. A reference to a common real-world practice still qualifies as a real-world reference IMO. — Defender1031*Talk 21:56, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
"Common practice" and "stereotype" are the opposite of specific. If we're speaking about fan bases in general then we're not being specific. Fun facts that fit the form "Real-life group X did action Y at place Z" are real-world references. Fun facts that fit the form "The H*R characters are doing action X for reason Y" are explanations. — It's dot com 22:48, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
It still is a reference, as a referance in magic trick has the following: "Strong Bad claiming he will stand on Bubs' Concession stand for six days is a parody of endurance artists, most notably David Blaine." Obviously, David Blaine is not the only one doing it, and there are many more referances as such, therefore, if you must take action on this edit, give an example, not a deletion. And another thing, as there are many fake practices in the Homestar Runner universe (e.g. water ballon lawsuits), it'd be a good idea to mention the reality of this particular practice, and not assume that "everyone knows this". That defeats the purpose of this Wiki. ...So, may I please have my edit back? Please? That Game Dude 386 23:23, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
Everything up to "most notably David Blaine" is an explanation. That last clause is what pushes it to be a reference. In the case of fans camping out, there's no one example that is any more notable than another. The reason we have a threshold for explanations is that if we explained everything, our articles would be overrun with information the vast majority of people already know, and it's poor form to explain the joke. The question is, do we really think people are out there who are watching this toon and completely not getting it? (Note, I'm talking about a sizeable chunk of the intended audience; I'm not concerned with those one or two people who never get anything.) The fact should not be replaced until more people have had a chance to weigh in. — It's dot com 00:01, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
Fine. You win. I'll stop nagging, and have this pizza trophy as proof. That Game Dude 386 01:47, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

It WAS new, wasn't it?

Why was this never featured on the "What's New?" Menu on the front page? I found it by accident suspecting something like the "not email 100" thing was available. Also, don't these qualify for being secret pages? —NFITC1talk 17:19, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

What's New? No. Secret Page? Yes.That Game Dude 386 21:38, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Name change from "Page Load Error" to "NOT the 200th Email!"?!

I remember that the sbemail teaser page for email 100 was called "NOT the 100th Email!", should we do the same here?

-70.244.112.226 17:32, 22 September 2008 (UTC) (Everybody! , who forgot to $%#^&@* log in again...! >:( )

That was because that's what the Page title was called. This page's title is "Page Load Error" so we'll leave it at that. —NFITC1talk 17:34, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Claiming sbemail 200's transcript

I'd love to make sbemail 200 my first, but... if I don't claim it now, it'll be taken... can I claim it here, now? That Game Dude 386 23:12, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Nope. You have to get it when it comes out. Think about it: if you could claim transcripts in advance, what if you were sleeping when the toon you claimed was released? The wiki'd have to wait for you to wake up. Wiki doesn't wait that long, I'm afraid. Heimstern Läufer 23:38, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
No fair! Aw, well, I didn't think so. It was worth a shot. I'll just take one for the team, then. That Game Dude 386 23:48, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
If you want to transcribe something, get the DVDs and transcribe some commentary! OptimisticFool 04:54, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

The Perplexing Typo

The question "Did you grandma?" appears to be a typo of either "Did your grandma?" or "Did you, grandma?", however, there is no way to tell which. Apparently that's not all this increadible typo could mean, so I need your help: What does it mean, and should it be a Fun Fact? That Game Dude 386 01:40, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

I assume simplicity. It means "Did you grandma?" and no, there's no real point in putting this in the facts section. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 01:52, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
It's random crap, which is so commonplace in Homestar Runner cartoons that it's not worth noting. Besides, unless you can read either Matt or Mike Chapman's mind, we'll never know whether it was intended that way or a typo. ~That Guy Over There (User talk:That Guy Over There) 03:13, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

REAL page load error?

I don't know if this is just me... but when I try to play this toon it always stops after the "name the inconsistency" line. Is anyone else having this problem? Acam30 02:52, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

It's not just you...And I haven't been able to get much of anything else on the website to load. Has homestarrunner.com been slashdotted?? :( 76.114.174.169 14:38, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
