:::::::::::"Mays" do not make useable Fun Facts, Tgd386, especially when they can be easily disproved: The carnivorous undead sheep is an escaped laboratory test animal called "Subject X". It is therefore NOT the zombie of a sheep that the King of Town ate several years ago. Its origins are clearly explained at the end of the toon. As a result, there is no link between the two toons, apart from the fact they both contain sheep. By the logic used so far, the next Decemberween toon would contain a Carnivous Undead Roast Rabbit! 20:47, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

So in regards to (also: , , , and ).  I think there is significant disagreement among editors that this should be brought to a talk page discussion.  If using Phlip's Greasemonkey script, frames 3496 and 3942 show the line to both the left and the right of the buttons, someething that's clearly impossible and inconsistent.  It's dot com that TBC made a conscious decision since The Cheat's outfit is a mirror image of itself on both sides, making the perspective also unlikely and impossible. It would seem reasonable to think that H*R's image was also flipped in the same way to save time.  At first I hadn't thought that they'd do the same with Homestar but it's looking more like they did.  However, it's hard to tell what is going through their minds without asking them directly.  So this probably belongs in the but I do think this discrepancy should be noted somewhere.  My main concern is: would doing this start an inevitable trend on this wiki?  (Something I'd like to avoid in this particular case.)  --Stux 00:48, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

:I don't have time to do the research right now, but I'd bet that this is nothing new. (I know they do it in Cheat Commandos, but that's a sub-universe.) If so, what makes this toon special? — It's dot com 01:02, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
 +
::Yes, it would start a trend. I'm pretty sure it happens all the time, just a lot of the time it's not something quite as asymmetrical as buttons. Still, it happens not infrequently. I personally think that it's unnotable when they use a flip of an existing flash object rather than creating a new one for the same object or character just facing the other way. It's a technique that's been used in animation for as long as animation has existed, and only wonderfully terrifying people like us would even notice such a thing. 01:04, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
 +
:::Yeah thinking about it, it does seem reasonable that they've used this technique before, but then the question would be: does it happen to create such a noticeable discrepancy as buttons splayed on either side?  With The Cheat's flip, you could possibly argue that there's zippers (and the little lips that open on close them) on both sides.  If it's too common of an occurrence i can understand removing it in order to avoid another unsightly trend.  However, on its own I do consider it somewhat 'goof-worthy' or 'remark-worthy'.  --Stux 01:16, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

Two Scud costumes?

How significant is it that two characters dressed up as characters from the same kinda-obscure comic book? --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 05:15, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

I wouldn't say that significant. The complete graphic novel came out during the summer, so it just might be their way of pay homage to an unknown comic.
Yes, but with two characters from the same source in the same toon? That's significant to me, and I really don't recall something like it happening before.
I think any significance is going to be obvious once people see the costume page. I'm not averse to it being noted, just don't see a great need. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 19:04, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
I'll say this much: The person who removed it said that it had "arguably" happened before, but I don't recall any such thing. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 19:09, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
Also, the guy who wrote it, Rob Schrab, works on the Sarah Silverman show, and in the background is a Homestarrunner poster.

Life the Universe and Everything

We should maybe mention the answer strong sad was looking for. 41 or something.

42. I've hardly read the books and I know that. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 06:00, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
You need to check your humor-meter, Jay.
What? I was correcting the incorrect answer of 41. If there was an inside joke in misremembering the answer, did you miss the part about me having hardly read the books? It wasn't particularly funny otherwise. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 07:01, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
Sarcasm doesn't translate into text very well. If you frequent the internet, I'd be surprised if you didn't know the answer to life, the universe and everything. Stribbs 14:03, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

How green was my planet

The planet's name may or may not be "Greenguy". That is, apparently it didn't have a name when it was just a book cover, but when it became a common website image it took the name from its filename, greenguy.gif. Of course, the cartoon doesn't mention the name, so perhaps it doesn't matter anyway. ¡ɯooz + 07:36, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Strong Mad's Thwomp Actions merit mention?

Should it be added in Real World References that Strong Mad forcefully stomping the ground when he talked relates to his costume? I'd say that's why he did it. Or is it too fleeting and unimportant for a mention? GillanTheVillain 14:28, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

I say it should be put it, because it's an obvious refference, it's silly to leave it out. MJN SEIFER 20:38, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Whatchamacallit

Whatchamacallit is another kind of candy bar. I'd come up with some proper addition to the page for it myself, but I have Halloweening to do. Xerzes 15:56, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Teeth or leaves?

I don't think the shot of Homestar and Pom Pom from a distance was inside the carnivorous undead sheep's mouth. It looked more like the sheep was behind a bush or something. --Charlie Jr. 16:33, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Marzipan's Costume

I don't know if this should be under Remarks or Goofs, but Homestar incorrectly mentioned to Marzipan that she "keeps dressing up as dudes" when it has only happened for five Halloween toons including this one (Joey Ramone - 2001, Beaker - 2004, Willie Nelson - 2005, and Prince - 2007). I know that this is only just the majority gender and all, but do you think it should get noted on the toon's page? Rexy 17:39, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Put it in Remarks. MichaelXX2 mail_icon.gif link_icon.gif 20:42, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
I'm confused what you mean, Rexy. That she "keeps dressing up as dudes" doesn't mean she always does, and 5/9 times is fairly significant. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 20:46, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Ghost in the Graveyard?

Title a reference to that kids tag-variant, perhaps? Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 17:45, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Actually, the first thing I thought of was the food --Bobsmith84 19:03, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

I'd say it's more likely the tag variant. DrPepper42 07:24, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

Something doesn't add up...

It's starting to be a running gag thing where, in the teaser, Strong Bad has an awesome costume and turns out to have one nothing like it in the real toon. But, in Jibblies 2, someone (I think it was Strong Sad) pointed this out in the toon at the end. That didn't happen this time. That doesn't make sense to me... SuperfieldCreditUnion

Hmm. In Happy Hallow-Day, Homestar starts the toon in "not his real costume" and in Jibblies 2 Strong Bad had a differently-shaped costume in the prior teaser toon. I don't think it's happened either way before, not that I recall anyway. I think you're presuming they're the same gag, when they really aren't, i don't think. Anyway, there's not required to use all their funny bits every year: wiches brew got some time off. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 19:00, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
Well, again, in Happy Hallow-Day and Jibblies 2, someone points out the different costume thing. Homestar announces that it isn't his Halloween costume and Coach Z (not Strong Sad, like I earlier thought) mentions that he thought Strong Bad was going to be the alien, referring to the trailer. However, this time, there's not even a hint as to the switch. It just feels like there's something missing there; it's not like TBC to just leave it without an explanation/referral. SuperfieldCreditUnion

Sheep's Revenge

it occurs to me, could the undead sheep be at all connected to The King of Town DVD? after all, the KoWT was a sheep eater, and his backyard graveyard is inhabited by an undead carnivorous sheep... thoughts? --Zatchman (Neumannz) 19:12, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

I actually wondered the same thing when I first saw the toon, but I think it can only be considered speculation on our part, as the KOT vaguely mentions its origins as an experiment. If there was no explanation in the toon, I'd probably be more inclined to think that there's a connection with the King of Town DVD. NoMayonnaise

Happy Carousel of Progress

Is it worth noting that part of the Carousel (the 1940s scene) takes place during Halloween? BBG 20:44, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Backyardiganz

Although, the Gravediggaz(?) rap group, seems more appropriate, as it was a Coach Z scene, I actually think that (as someone already said) it was also a Backyardigans refference, I have left the rap group thing in, because I agree with it aswell, It is not impossible to refference 2 things at once.

1. Backyardigans sounds like Graveyeardiganz more than Gravediggaz or whatever) does.

2. Backyardigans is a music based series.

3. There has already been a Yo Gabba Gabba refference in this episode, proving that TBC are (thankfully) not afraid to refference shows primarilly aimed at children. (I actually watch Backyardigans from time to time - not too keen on YGG though) Also note that both shows are on Nick Jr. MJN SEIFER 21:03, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

 • Their knowledge of such shows may also be due to the fact they both have young children at whom such shows would be directed.--Flytape8490 14:21, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
Appropriately, there is also a humorous juxtaposition of the horrorcore rap genre with a musical TV programme aimed at children. – The Chort 16:32, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

Candy bars

Does it need to be mentioned in "Real World References" that 100 Grand is also a candy bar? Just wondered, since you mentioned Watchamacallits. --Wordmama 22:39, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Probably not. I think even if you'd never seen or eaten them before you'd be able to tell what they are from the context. I'd completely forgotten about Whatchamacallits until reading here of the reference so I'd imagine others wouldn't initially notice it either. — User:ACupOfCoffee@ 02:53, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
I think all candy bars mentioned/referenced should be listed in one Real-World Reference. What can it hurt? OptimisticFool 02:56, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

Say it! Say it!

The article mentions that Strong Sad's comments in the Strong Bad easter egg are typical of Sam Kennison's stand-up act. While this is true, it seems to me that it's a direct reference to his scene in the movie "Back to School." The "Say it! Say it!" line is a direct quote from the movie.

Are you sure? I don't remember. Either I'm not noticing or I'm just dumb. Sonicfirestorm44 04:25, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
Here's a link to a YouTube video of the scene in question: [1] (note--contains some language that would make the kiddies blush). The "Say it! Say it!" line occurs at around 2:00-2:10.

It's a joke on the lore of Vampires (don't show up in mirrors). Strong Sad died and didn't know it. So, he appeared to be living until he discovered it through the photos. DrPepper42 07:11, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

Trivia

This seems unrelated. Their costumes are from that comic. — Defender1031*Talk 16:27, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

That doesn't mean it can't also be a shout out to the artist.

The author's relashionship with TBC is notable. That Game Dude 386 13:56, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
 • Over a period of nine Halloweens, five of Marzipan's costumes have involved cross-dressing.

Noted already in inside references. — Defender1031*Talk 16:27, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

Remarks

 • Homsar and the Carnivorous Undead Sheep are drawn with black outlines, instead of the thick, colored outline style of everything else in the Homestar Runner Universe.

Captain caveman is drawn that way, and the sheep is black and white. — Defender1031*Talk 16:27, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

Still, they are stylised, which we have an article on. Somewhere. That Game Dude 386 23:36, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
Surely the sheep was designed to match the old art style that the King's sheep appeared in, so it'd be obvious it was one of -those- sheep.
That proves nothing, and this isn't the discussion for that proof anyway. — Defender1031*Talk 02:07, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
Actually, it is. And now you're contradicting yourself, and you still say it is sylised, but not stylised. Can I get some clarification of your theories? That Game Dude 386 13:54, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
 • It seems unusual that Strong Sad would read The Hitchhikers Series, as he has never shown any interest in humor.

It's still a nerdy book. — Defender1031*Talk 16:27, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

It's. A. Remark. Nerdy. Or. Not. That Game Dude 386 23:34, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
No, Strong Sad does sometime indulge in humor. In labor day, for example, he jokes that Strong Bad's invitation got DELETED. In extra plug, he laughs at a picture of Andy Griffith's head. In any case, this statement is speculative opinion, not fact. – The Chort 13:05, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
This could be rewritten as "It seems odd that Strong Sad would read The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy series, as he is usually somber and depressing with no interest in humor." DrPepper42 07:14, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

Speeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeculation. — Defender1031*Talk 16:27, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

Seems like an odd coincedence, considering the graveyard's looooooooooooooooooocation. I've seen worse speculation considered as facts. That Game Dude 386 23:27, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
I think it makes sense. Omnisweater 01:20, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
Sense or not, all it is is speculation. There is no proof, nor any implication of it. — Defender1031*Talk 05:25, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
Actually, there seems to be heavy implication. And I got another FF. Bubs's dead relatives may be a reference to the sbemail about sleepovers Strongkinghomsarsmith 15:36, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
The King of Town describes the carnivorous undead sheep as an escaped laboratory test animal called "Subject X". Remember that the sheep in The King of Town DVD were not eaten by a dragon, but they were eaten by the King of Town. Are you seriously suggesting that one of the sheep, long slaughtered by The Little Chef Guy and then eaten and digested by a gluttonous monarch, somehow came back from the dead to haunt the graveyard, when it's clearly been established that it escaped from the nearby laboratory? What sense is there in that?! There is no connection whatsoever between the two toons, apart from the fact that they both feature sheep living on The King of Town's property! I'd go so far to say that the carnivorous undead sheep is just as much a reference to the King of Town DVD than it is to The King of Town's character video, KOT's VOQPCS! or even the Theme Song Video! By the way, SKHS, I don't see how Bubs visiting his ancestors' graves is supposed to be an Inside Reference about Bubs talking about his dead cousins in slumber party. None of the graves seen in the toon belong to any of Bubs' cousins. It's more like a coincidence than a deliberate reference. – The Chort 16:26, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
Yes, maybe it should go into Remarks (the Bubs thing, not the sheep). Strongkinghomsarsmith 16:50, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
What? did you even read what he said? — Defender1031*Talk 16:51, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
Crap. Now I'm forgetting what Remarks are for *bangs head on desk* Strongkinghomsarsmith 16:55, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
The dead sheep may be one of the victims in The King of Town DVD. That is the keyword here, gentlemen. Even if the CUS isn't one of the vicitms, sheep slaughter could be an IR, worded like this:
Is that alright? That Game Dude 386 02:00, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
I don't really think this coincidence or possible (but speculatory) reference is really strong enough to even warrant a "may be". I'm with Deffy and The Chort. Heimstern Läufer 02:07, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
"Mays" do not make useable Fun Facts, Tgd386, especially when they can be easily disproved: The carnivorous undead sheep is an escaped laboratory test animal called "Subject X". – The Chort 20:47, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

I've gotta stop you there, DeFender1031. I'm pretty sure jorb is a four letters word that it's a ref. It doesn't seem likely that it's just a coincidence. SuperfieldCreditUnion
A coincidence? How is it even that much? The phrase "pride and joy" is very common. I see nothing linking it to this specific song. — Defender1031*Talk 21:54, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
A coincidence with them randomly picking that phrase and it being the title of a song that was written by whoever Marzipan dressed up as. And the prase "pride and joy" isn't common everywhere. I argue for it being a reference. SuperfieldCreditUnion
I'm an idiot and didn't notice that it was by the same guy... good pwize! — Defender1031*Talk 22:08, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
 • Homestar Runner argues with himself about his costume, mistakenly suggesting it to be of Carrot Top, a stand-up comedian noted for his use of props, his large orange hair, and being a former spokesperson for AT&T during their "Dial Down the Center" campaign. He then mistakenly "corrects" himself to actually be Crocodile Dundee, the titular character from the 1986 comedy movie. Crocodile Dundee was played by Paul Hogan who, like Yahoo Serious, is Australian.

Only removed the bold part, cause it seems unimportant here. The reference is the hair. — Defender1031*Talk 16:27, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

Not sure that much pruning is needed. And Homestar has props in the lineup at the end, and most halloween costumes of celebrities are explained. That Game Dude 386 23:30, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

Questionable fact

 • Strong Bad's line "Is there some secret period in history when hobos ruled the Earth that I'm unaware of?" could possibly refer to John Hodgman's book "The Areas of My Expertise", which features a non-factual factual account of such an era as a major section of the book.

Can someone please verify this? — Defender1031*Talk 16:27, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

As an owner of the book, I can say that there is a tale of when Hobos took control of some of the US Federal Government. This seems a more likely reference as Mr. Hodgman has gained more notoriety lately due to his PC commercials, his appearances on The Daily Show. He even has a new book out! Hobo Matters make up about 1/3 the book, so it's more than just a passing reference. I'd say it's worth consideration. - Flashfight, who needs to log in.

Price 100 grand

If the goblin really did turn Homestar's 100 grand candy bars into gold, with the price of gold at 724 US dollars an ounce (as of November 1st), and one "fun size" 100 grand candy is about 1.5 ounces, it would take about 92.2 candy bars for Homestar and Pom Pom to get $100,000 from those.

Does this deserve a place?

equation:

(100000/724)/1.5

(the total $ needed) divided by the total ounceage of the candy.

--76.120.82.192 03:01, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

Or something like that.

Well, I'm trying really hard to write a long dissertation here, but this is not fun, will be incorrect on a daily basis (on a continual basis during trading hours) and more importantly is missing a key number, that is the number of candy bars. Using $100,000 to figure out the number of candy bars is foolish. Without the number of candy bars, your work (as laudable as it is) simply has no place in the article. Flashfight 10:48, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
It could be worded as "at the time this toon was released". =] OptimisticFool 19:30, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

Actally a couple days after, but yeah.--76.120.82.192 03:01, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

Photography

Should we explain the "Amateur Photography trifecta" as a reference to cliche' photography locations?--Flytape8490 15:07, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

Legitimate Business!

I think it would be worth adding explanations on all of the business practises that Bubs' distant relatives apparently invented. Specifically, "Bait and Switch" and "No Money Down" ("No Payments Till 2010" speaks for itself). – The Chort 20:40, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, that sounds good. DrPepper42 02:16, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

Strong Sad holding his breath

Quote from the article: "This is the second time a character (Strong Sad) has struggled to hold his breath; the first occurred in Halloween Fairstival when Homestar couldn't hold his breath."

Shouldn't Homestar's Yearbook page (http://www.homestarrunner.com/yearbookhs.html) count, making this the third instance? --Smallhacker 16:38, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

Nope. there he succeeds in holding it for 9 seconds. These other two are practically nonexistant lengths of time. — Defender1031*Talk 16:55, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

Sixth-Fourth-Second-Fifth Cousins??

COACH Z: Hey, Bubs! Check it out! You're not the only one with relatives here! My great good-aunt is buried right under our feet!

BUBS: Naw, you come over here and look at this! I want you to see my great-great granduncle. He invented "no payments 'til 2010!"

COACH Z: Hi there.

BUBS: Wait! Hold on a sec'! Are you telling me my uncle is your aunt?

COACH Z: Seems that way! {close up on Coach Z} {jubilantly} Bubs! This is great news! This means we're brothers! I always knew it!

BUBS: Or it means you're a liar! Besides, even if it were true, we'd only be sixth-fourth-second-fifth cousins, thrice removed!

If Coach Z's aunt and Bubs' uncle were the same person, how would they actually be related (assuming that great good-aunt means great-great aunt)? I need someone with some genealogical knowledge here.StrongBadFan99998 02:42, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

If I've counted things right, they're third cousins once removed. Though first you've gotta get over the fact that Coach Z's female relative is the same person as Bubs' male relative. --Belthazar 05:39, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Goofy H*R buttons debacle

So in regards to this undo (also: [2], [3], [4], and [5]). I think there is significant disagreement among editors that this should be brought to a talk page discussion. If using Phlip's Greasemonkey script, frames 3496 and 3942 show the line to both the left and the right of the buttons, someething that's clearly impossible and inconsistent. It's dot com suggested that TBC made a conscious decision since The Cheat's outfit is a mirror image of itself on both sides, making the perspective also unlikely and impossible. It would seem reasonable to think that H*R's image was also flipped in the same way to save time. At first I hadn't thought that they'd do the same with Homestar but it's looking more like they did. However, it's hard to tell what is going through their minds without asking them directly. So this probably belongs in the remarks section but I do think this discrepancy should be noted somewhere. My main concern is: would doing this start an inevitable trend on this wiki? (Something I'd like to avoid in this particular case.) --Stux 00:48, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

I don't have time to do the research right now, but I'd bet that this is nothing new. (I know they do it in Cheat Commandos, but that's a sub-universe.) If so, what makes this toon special? — It's dot com 01:02, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
Yes, it would start a trend. — Defender1031*Talk 01:04, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
Yeah thinking about it, it does seem reasonable that they've used this technique before, but then the question would be: does it happen to create such a noticeable discrepancy as buttons splayed on either side? With The Cheat's flip, you could possibly argue that there's zippers (and the little lips that open on close them) on both sides. If it's too common of an occurrence i can understand removing it in order to avoid another unsightly trend. However, on its own I do consider it somewhat 'goof-worthy' or 'remark-worthy'. --Stux 01:16, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
Looks like someone had time to do the research! — It's dot com 02:16, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
