Ding! Marzipan is a featured article, which means it showcases an important part of the Homestar Runner body of work and/or highlights the fine work of this wiki. We also might just think it's cool. If you see a way this page can be updated or improved without compromising previous work, feel free to contribute.

Marzipan's Dad

What's the source for the fun fact at the bottom? --Upsilon 21:11, 2 Nov 2004 (MST)

Just what the fact says - mouse over the H*R logo in the upper left corner of the main page to go to the museum and poke around in there. --Southpaw018 16:00, 2 Nov 2004 (MST)
You misunderstand; I was referring to the part that says "The Brothers Chaps have said that this was an idea they had early in the site's development but threw it out, so it is not really a "fact" anymore." --Upsilon 17:04, 6 Nov 2004 (MST)

And Strong Sad

Has anyone else noticed how much better the relationship between Marzipan and Strong Sad has got recently? While before she would often treat him with nothing more than polite contempt, it seems that now they actually generally enjoy each others company, on many occassions spending time exclusively together. Indeed, these days if Marzipan is shown in an exclusive social situation she is more often than not with Strong Sad.

Could it be that the two are, dare I say it, friends?? 194.80.32.12 19:04, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Hot Item

Is there a particular way to find out on what days Marzipan will say she and Homestar are a hot item and which days she won't? --The snitch 2 05:53, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

It's random, not day related. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 07:39, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

Unnamed Girl

If Unnamed Girl is a main character on H*R, why aren't the girls in Teen Girl Squad also main characters? Should the reference to her in "...the only female main character on the site (excepting the Unnamed Girl and Marzipan's 20x6 and 1936 counterparts)" be taken out? --oddtodd 16:31, 16 Nov 2004 (MST)

I beleive the reason for that is that the girls in Teen Girl Squad live in their own universe apart for the H*R world (except for the glitch in virus). On the other hand the Unnamed Girl interacts with Homestar and Strong Bad in her appearances as if she was part of their world.
Moreover, I think it should be important to mention that the fact that Marzipan is the only girl, is likely a parody on the Smurfs. --Stux 18:13, 23 Sep 2005 (UTC)

The Teen Girl Squad is made and crapfully animated and Voiced by SB.They couldn't have been main characters. That would have been really really dumb. having to mask his own voice every few seconds to voice one of them.(The Ugly One, Whats-her-face,Cheerleader,and So-and-so)--Gir007 00:14, 13 February 2006 (UTC)Gir007-Zaak

Marzipan's Hair Color

Answering machine 12.2 (newest one) has Marzipan leaving herself a prank call telling herself that her hair is not her natural color. I can't tell if this is 'true' or not... did anybody interpret that as being something that could be added to Marzipan's fact page? --Meepers 01:16, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I don't think so - she was just poorly imitating other people (most notably Strong Bad) who have a tendancy to leave her fake messages. --Jay (Talk) 01:17, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Yeah, you're probly Right. Marzipan is just a poor, poor fool. The King of Town does a better Strong Bad than her.And that's a bad, bad Strong bad KOT does.--Gir007 00:03, 13 February 2006 (UTC)Gir007A.K.A Zaak

Velma Dinkley

What? Where the crap did this come from? --Gafaddict 00:43, 24 May 2005 (UTC)

It's 100% legit. As my note says there is (or at least was) a secret page that showcased the 2001 Halloween costumes - only some of them (Marzipan as Velma, Coach Z as a Noid, and Pom Pom as The Skipper) were later changed. I have a screenshot on my computer. Want me to load it? --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 00:48, 24 May 2005 (UTC)

Awesome find! Is this going on the Halloween Costumes page? (I love Coach Z as the Noid!) Aurora the Homestar Coder 02:25, 24 May 2005 (UTC)
I knew about it a LONG time ago, even before I knew about the Wiki (I was CERTAIN it was on the Secret Pages page but I can't find it there, even in the History.) If you want to break apart the three alternate costumes and include them on Halloween Costumes, be my guest. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 03:00, 24 May 2005 (UTC)
After some hunting around, I think this might be the page but it's not loading fully (as secret pages tend not to for some reason. Do the linked pages actually get more bandwidth than the unlinked ones?) --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 03:33, 24 May 2005 (UTC)
To answer your question: No, probably not. The blank square means that shockwave is trying to access an .SWF that does not exist. You'll get a 404 if you link to it directly. I tried looking at the known mirrors, but they don't have it either. Good Luck! --Stux 18:34, 23 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Legs?

Does she have legs or not? Its very hard to tell.. and she said she does and doesnt but which one??

Marzipan does not have legs. She even told TBC in the commentary of date. She said she just pretends she has legs.

She doesn't have legs. But in "Ballad of The Sneak" on Shorts she has Pigtails. It's funny..she gets chased by The Sneak. Her Name

Where do you think TBC got the idea to name her Marzipan? It's a very unusual name, and I have never heard it ever before in my life. Was it just made up or did they name her after somebody?

Marzipan -- tomstiff 19:04, 18 Aug 2005 (UTC)
  • I saw some of those when I was in Mexico several weeks ago. I didn't know they were real either. I was with someone who wanted to buy them as candies saying they were "little marzipans." They really were in the general shape of her body, so I asked her if she watched H*R and she asked me what that was. It was equally shocking to me that there existed such a thing with the name "Marzipan." NFITC1 18:19, 23 Sep 2005 (UTC)

its a german treat pronounced motsapon i know cause im german. heimstern look at my profile cause i cant access your my talk page--Valf 00:03, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

  • Marzipan is kind of like iceing, it is made of almonds and you put it on cakes. I'm amazed you guys have never heard of it! Maybe it's a European thing.
  • Actually, it is more often used for candy figurines (such as animals or fruits). It's very popular around both Christmas and Easter. Sometimes it's used as a filling for chocolate treats as well. Also, in my region, you pronounce it more like "Mah-tsee-pahn".

Smurfs

There is a minor mistake in the fun facts selection. It says that the only female smurf was Smurfette. Sassette was also a female smurf and was a pretty common character.

Since this comment from a month ago hasn't been addressed, I'll go ahead and make a tentative change noting that Smurfette was not the only female Smurf. Smurfette and Sassette were created by magic (the former by Gargamel, the latter by the younger Smurfs), but my memory can't recall if Nanny Smurf has an origin story or if it was just left unexplained. I'll also make it a bit more ambiguous as to whether Marzipan is the only female in the Homestar universe, while noting she's the only main character who is female. Feel free to clean up or revert my edit, as I'm still a wiki neophyte. Wiggy 16:22, 6 December 2005 (UTC)

Whatcha tickin' bot; you did a great job of it. But... Why is this fact there at all? Did TBC ever say anything in an interview or commentary or the like linking her to the Smurfs? (That seems to lurk at the back of my mind.) 'Cause otherwise this is an acute case of TTATOT; it's as relevent as observing that Venus de Milo was the only female Turtle. —AbdiViklas 17:03, 6 December 2005 (UTC)
Feel free to delete; I didn't want to delete something that's been around since October without any discussion. My neutral rational for keeping is available on my talk page (shoulda read this reply first, but I'm at work and read things out of order ;). Perhaps this fact should be scrapped, let's just hear some opinions on it -Wiggy 19:48, 6 December 2005 (UTC)

Because it was on the article? The question really should be why are the Smurfs on the Wiki in the first place.

A Crush on Strong Bad?

I think that Marzipan has a seceret crush on Strong Bad. I know in the email marzipan, she said she doesen't, but she's probobly too shy to tell Strong Bad she likes him. What do you think? Cheddarlebbon

Vegetarian or vegan?

Does anyone know whether Marzipan is only vegetarian, or is she a vegan? Vegan seems more in line with her animal rights activism, but I've only seen references to her being a vegetarian. I started wondering about this after watching Strong Bad is in Jail - I wondered if her baklava was vegan or not (since honey is not vegan, but not all baklava is made with honey). --H-ko 14:59, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

Good question.and kinda good self-answer.but if she's a Vegitarian, why did she even ACCEPT the sammich Homestar brought her in "Where's the Cheat?"I'm pretty sure he put meat on that thing.--Gir007 00:10, 13 February 2006 (UTC)Gir007-Zaak

Hey, Gir007, have you ever heard of a veggie burger? Besides, I'm sure that Marzipan wouldn't even have any meat in her kitchen, so Homestar wouldn't screw up like that.

Thing is though, it did have mayonnaise on it, if I'm not mistaken. Whether it was made of marshmallows or eggs, it's not vegan.
Marzy says she's vegan in the Wonkavision Magazine Interview. --65.190.149.45 20:21, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
No, she doesn't. Loafing 07:38, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
Yes, she does:
WONKAVISION: What made you go vegan?
MARZIPAN: People ‘go’ to the bathroom. You don’t ‘go’ vegan.

--71.77.25.75 19:09, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

That proves nothing. She was commenting on the way the narrator asked the question, not affirming the statement. ¤ The Dang, Pom Pom, you see that? That's a nice golbol. Talk to me. 20:41, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

There is also the issue of marshmallows. As a Vegetarian or Vegan Marzipan should avoid foods containing gelatin. I think a note to this point should be put on the character page.

Marzy's Debut

Hey, random question, but does anyone know chronologically the first voiced appearance of Marzipan?

The first one would probably be Marzipan's Answering Machine Version 1.0, which was in Autumn 2000. Homestarloween Party was shortly after that. --DorianGray
Hmmm... Couldn't it have been vice-versa? Seems kind of strange that Marzipan may have debuted with an answering machine. Thunderbird 04:59, 19 March 2006 (UTC)
I'm thinkin' vocally. Unless she did speak in She Loves Me!...? --DorianGray
What about Spin 'n Say? We don't have a date on that, but I wonder if that came before or after the first Answering Machine. — Image:kskunk_fstandby.gif KieferSkunk (talk) — 05:30, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

Marzipan's Protest Signs discussion

This discussion was moved from its original location at Marzipan's Protest Signs.

This article sucks. So does the new, headless Strong Bad stub image. Take it down? Darth Katana X (discussionitem_icon.gif user.gif mail_icon.gif)
Well, thanks for the positive, encouraging feedback. Marzipan's character is a protesing liberal. She protests. She has on at least 2 occassions made signs for protests. It's a stretch to assume she never will again. This page documents her creation of said signs. And no one involved with changing the 'stub' icon was invoilved with this page, so linking one with another is most unwelcome. We need to make a merge template. This article definitely wouldn't suck if it were part of Marzipan's article. I'm gonna create the template right now. Darth Katana X (discussionitem_icon.gif user.gif mail_icon.gif)
Could you possibly be any ruder? I don't give a hoot where the page goes, but I think you could be a little less "bite the newbie". Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 07:05, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
Hmm. I am astounded by the lack of tact demonstrated by the first and third posts in this thread. I for one think this is a nice little bit of information. It probably would fit on Marzipan's page pretty easily, just like the mispronunciations that are on Coach Z's page. I recommend merging. — It's dot com 10:09, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
What about that "Vote Whales" poster in Strong Bad is a Bad Guy? I know it isn't a literal protest sign, but it seems to be something connected to this running gag... animal-related politics and such. - Joshua 12:25, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
Good point, I think that until there are more, they should go on her page. If they have her make another it should go on its own article. I R F 16:39, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
Qermaq, sorry for sounding like a rudea—. It's pretty ironic that I'm the one who's been here for half a year and I'm still a rabid cabal, a n00b and a borderline troll (my Lord, does that sound nerdy). I guess some things never change. Thinking of you as a "newbie" seems pretty ridiculous. Anyway, that's just the way I am, I never mean to offend anyone, I'm just a jerk. Uh, but since when is Marzipan a liberal? I'm totally anti-eating rabbits or anti-any unnecessary killing of animals, and I'm probably gonna be a vegan if I get rich (and start a band with Moby and my brothers called Humane Society), but I'm totally conservative. Darth Katana X (discussionitem_icon.gif user.gif mail_icon.gif)

A reply to this conversation: Marzipan's nature is pretty much that of a hippie, and hippies are liberal by definition. And a reply to Darth Katana X: "newbie"-ness has nothing to do with how long you've been around - it has much more to do with your attitude and the way you treat other users. If you act like a newbie and you are rude to people (especially when it's unnecessary and uncalled for), you'll get called a newbie/troll/whatever, and treated as such. That's how it works pretty much everywhere. — Image:kskunk_fstandby.gif KieferSkunk (talk) — 18:39, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

A blinking goof?

I don't know how recent this is, but I've noticed a little issue with Marzipan's eyes when she blinks. I saw this in Weclome Back, and I think I've noticed it in less recent toons. Is this information worth being put somewhere on the wiki, or is it too unnoticeable to matter?

Picture

--Song from the 60's

No its not very noticeable. The eyes seem perfectly fine to me anyways.--H*Bad 03:18, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

I notice a little intrusion into the dark border around the face, but wow, you really need to look for that. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 03:25, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
Now I see something, but really its more of just the flashes fault, because of it being older flash that your you're looking at.--H*Bad 03:28, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

About the character video

How does it work? Is it "Today we are not" on certain days, and "Today we are" on certain other days? I watched it twice just now, and both time I got "today we are not."--Jnelson09 18:47, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Compleatly random. TBC used an invisible roulette wheel. --Mario2.PNG Super Martyo boing! 04:10, 9 August 2006 (UTC) (And I used a flash bookmarklet, and made her say "Today we are!" and at the end, homestar still said "Yay!")

Change everything to short hair?

Marzipan lost her hair in keep cool, and we saw that she had a ponytail in retirement B, so why don't we use that image?

As H*R hardly has any continuity, we really can't say that until Marzi actually continues to show up with shorter hair all the time. --DorianGray
Also see Talk:retirement B#Marzipan's Hair? for a discussion. Most people think that she just tied back her hair for the act. Loafing 03:40, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
Why don't we replace the image on Strong Mad's page with him in that loincloth? It's almost certainly a one-time thing. And even if Marzipan's hair really was short because it was burned away, it'll probably grow back. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 14:47, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
Just saying that, in fact, it was shown long and like normal again in the next email, colouring. --DorianGray

The Cheat and Marzipan

Is The Cheat's crush on Marzipan and his portrayal of her as a The Cheat-lover in The Cheat Theme Song and mile worth noting? Darth Katana X (discussionitem_icon.gif user.gif mail_icon.gif) 08:52, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Dirty hippie?

Where does Strong Bad describe Marzipan as a "dirty hippie without the dirt"? I know I've seen it before, but I can't remember where. If someone could go ahead and add in one of those superscript things (I don't know how), that'd be great. Thanks! kai lyn 15:02, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

Boo!

Hmmm... I just watched her video transcript 16 times — 8 where Marzi says they are going out, 8 when she says they aren't. Of those times, I could only get H*R to respond with the same answer twice. Both times, it was a double "Boo"! I couldn't get him to say a double "yay" though. I dunno. Maybe I zoned out or something. If no one else can get the same answer from him, you can fix that last sentence in the "Video Transcript" portion... I'll keep trying though (I could listen to H*'s "Boo" all day! although I'm sick of hearing about those darn chinchillas!: ) ) Sorry for this... kai lyn 21:32, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

I always wondered how people discovered this in the first place. =3 --DorianGray 21:34, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
Ya, really! I'm glad I'm not the only one wondering that! : ) kai lyn 21:36, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
Coming back to this, I decompiled the Flash file and looked at the scripts. A double is not possible. If the first line is "yay", the ending will always be "boo", and vice versa. --DorianGray 01:14, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Species Unknown

What is Marzipan? I see her as some type of balloon thing with a face drawn on it. But my friends say she is a Baseball bat wearing a dress. And on a couple of occasions the site refers to Marzipan as a broom but she denies this. So what is Marzipan (I actually dont know what the rest of the characters are but lets just focus on Marzipan.)?
